10.5.5 Update PROBLEM Printing to Xerox from inDesign

I just updated to 10.5.5 and I'm having problems printing from inDesign to a Xerox Phaser 7760. All print outs come out distorted (stretch horizontally) I called Adobe and the work around they gave me is when I hit print, under setup [Paper Size] must be set to "Defined by Driver" not the actual paper size you want to print. That now has to be set under the [Page Setup] tab. Very annoying and inexplicable.
The problem only occurs when I print to this specific printer from just inDesign. It doesn't happen with any other program or if I print to any other printers from inDesign.

That solved it. For others that are interested, you need to either go to another machine that has 10.5.4 or download that image file from somewhere and do the following.
command-shift-G in the Finder to enable you to open the hidden folder, paste /usr/libexec/cups/filter/ as the go-to line. The file your looking to replace with the old system is called pstops. I saved a backup of the 10.5.5 version before replacing it with the older 10.5.4 You will need to log in as root in order to do the replacement of the files.
I would suggest someone try a safer and easier solution. Try installing Ghostscript. You can get a Mac OS X installer for Ghostscript at _http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/foomatic_. This will leave your hidden system files intact so you don't accidently break something.
I don't guarantee that this will work, but given the solution that Justin Lancaster posted about using Rosetta brought using Ghostscript to mind. What I think may be happening is that when using the Adobe applications under Rosetta, the applications are sending PDF or PICT with PostScript to the printing system. When running natively on Intel Macs, I believe the applications are sending PostScript to the printing system. I have seen this with Adobe Reader 8. Printing from Adobe Reader 8 on an Intel Mac sends PostScript to the printing system. If Ghostscript is present on your system, it will use Ghostscript rather than the Apple supplied pstops filter.
I hope someone will give Ghostscript a try and report back. I don't have any of the mentioned Adobe applications to test this on. Ghostscript does come with an uninstaller, so it can easily be removed if it doesn't solve the problem or the issue with Apple's pstops filter is resolved.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro XI problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.

Just installed Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and am having problems printing PDFs created from AutoCAD.  Printing other PDF created by MS Word works well.  Had a similar problem in an earlier version of Pro.  The fix I figure out then was to print the PDF file as another PDF.  Using the second PDF to print to a plotter typically worked.  It does not work for Adoabe Acrobat Pro XI.

  • Problem Printing onto CDs from Photoshop CS5 - Canon MG6150 printer

I cannot find a solution to this problem anywhere!! I have a Canon Pixma MG6150 printer and have designed a CD/DVD label using Photoshop CS5. The proportions are all correct, when printed on paper from within Photoshop I can cut out the label and it fits my printable media perfectly.
The problem is printing directly onto the CD or DVD using the printer's CD print tray. I cannot get the alignement correct -- the label will only print halfway off the media or more, so only a small section of my label appears on the CD. I have tried various settings from within Photoshop's print options and none work.
How can I get my label design to print onto the DVD or CD? Any help is HUGELY appreciated.
I am running Mac OSX 10.6.5.

I was testing other Imacs running the same photoshop CS5.1 with the new printer drivers from canon and it prints.  They are running OSX10.6.8.  My new computer is running 10.9.2 and it will not print from photoshop. Is the driver not compatible with the operating system? Is there something to try other than saying the driver is at fault.  Do I complain to Canon to update their driver to work? What is a work around?

  • Having problems printing using ePrint from email with an SMTP transmission failure

I am having a problem printing from my Apple devices (iPhone, iPad (both running iOS 5), Mac Book Pro and iMac (Lion)) from my Mobile me account (Apple's @me.com mail). My printer is a D110a and is up-to-date. The return error message I'm getting is attached. The printer is working fine as a wireless printer but whenever I try to email something to the ePrint printer address (@hpeprint) I get this message. While I wasn't a heavy user of emailing to this printer, I did have it working. I'm very discouraged by all of the postings I've found on very similar if not identical problems that others are having ... Please help! Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:  Recipient address: [email protected]  Reason: SMTP transmission failure has occurred  Diagnostic code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Command rejected  Remote system: dns;email.hpeprint.com (TCP|17.148.16.96|51538|15.201.224.75|25) (hpeprint.com ESMTP Postfix) Original-envelope-id: [email protected] Reporting-MTA: dns;asmtp021-bge351000.mac.com (tcp-daemon) Arrival-date: Tue, 13 Dec 2011 15:27:06 +0000 (GMT) Original-recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Final-recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.7.1 (SMTP transmission failure has occurred) Remote-MTA: dns;email.hpeprint.com (TCP|17.148.16.96|51538|15.201.224.75|25) (hpeprint.com ESMTP Postfix) Diagnostic-code: smtp;550 5.7.1 Command rejected initions=main-1112130128

I cannot say if this is a supported path or not, but I have a few thoughts about what you are doing. I have done a few prototypes that would send emails programatically to eprint printers.
    1. do you recieve the email if you send it to a different address (your email address) - you said the email is making it out of the server, but does it make it to destinations.
    2. can you try this with your own printer that has an hp connected account? this would make it easier to troubleshoot.
    3. hpconnected has the idea of open to anyone or allowed senders only. depending on how your customer has their printer setup, you could be blocked by the service because of those settings. with those options, they also have the option to block users or allow users to either of those settings.
3a. login to hpconnected.com, select devices, look at the device being printed to, and there is a column for ePrint Access that will say 'Allowed Senders Only' or 'Open to Anyone'. going to the settings for a printer will give more details about these settings, and allow you to manage blocked / allowed users.
More info under 'Manage ePrint Preferences' on this doc:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03550522&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
    4. I believe that in hpconnected, you can look at collections and it will show all recieved jobs - which would allow them to be printed again. I think this will list received jobs from email.
    I work for HP.

  • Problem with exporting PDF from Indesign CS6

    Hi,
I recently registered & installed CS6 on my computer (Last week!), and I seem to have problems with Indesign, which is the main reason for my buying the product.
The problem is that whenever I try to save & export a file as PDF from Indesign I get an error message (See attached file).
The files are saved with 0KB size, and so the Acrobat reader can't open them for preview.
This really interrupts my work, and backs up the entire comapny schedule.
I already tried updating, and uninstalling&re-installing the suite - but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated, and we need it ASAP.
    Thanks in advance,

Without proper system info and details about what PDF settings you actually used and how and where you save your files, nobody can say anything. You could simply be doing something silly like using PDF/A, but trying to enforce high-res pictures or whatever. In any case, ask in the ID forum.

  • Printing pdf exported from InDesign

When I print a pdf that I've exported from InDesign some of the graphic boxes or even text boxes that have effects, show up. They appear as a box with a subtle color a bit lighter than the background color of my design. These boxes do not show up on screen even when [view overprint] is on. The graphics are usually created or edited in photoshop with a transparent background so that only the image I want will be transfered to InDesign. Please HELP!

Thanks Daniel but this did not work for me perhaps because the following step was greyed out for me so I wasn't able to complete all the steps. I did try Claudia's advice to print image, that worked but it's getting a bit pixilated.
File > Print, and under Output, choose Composite CMYK, and CHECK the ?Simulate Overprint? checkbox. Under Advanced, select your all-raster flattener.
Maybe it's the way I created my original document, not sure.
    Thanks anyway!

  • Downloaded new updates, problem printing

I downloaded some new updates. I have a HP officejet 6110xi printer with driver version 2.2.9. I'm using OS 10.3.9. I used the older version of the driver because the newer one had caused some printing problems. The HP tech told me to use it and I had no problem with printing for a long time. Then I updated software and now I can't print from my photoshop cs2 or indesign. In the past I could print from my internet but having problem with it now. I went into my printer utility and did a test print and it printed. But it wouldn't print from any other applications including pdf, jpg etc. Any ideas?

    Hi Angela,
You might try downloading and running Print Center Repair version 4.2.3 for Panther. That may solve your problem.
From your description, I would guess that a plist file for the HP printer got trashed by the OSX software update. Or, maybe a config file in CUPS.
For CUPS problems, look in /etc/cups for the two files: printers.conf and ppds.dat . Especially printers.conf as that file should have an entry for each printer you use. If your HP 6110 isn't listed in that file, simply replace the above two files in /etc/cups with copies from a backup tape, or another similar Mac OSX.
I found that simply re-installing the HP software didn't replace those two files. That's because they are part of the CUPS , the Common UNIX Printing System.
    Good Luck!

  • Problem printing pdfs exported from IDCS3 to hp color laserjet 2550L

Since upgradingn to IDCS3, whenever I print a pdf exported from ID to my hp color laserjet 2550L, the graphics print with a red overlay and other colors change as well (black type prints brown, blue prints maroon). If I print the file to a .ps file, then distill it, I don't have the problem. If possible, I prefer to export because it's quicker. Is there a fix to this?
    Thanks in advance!

Check the HP site for a newer driver for your printer.

  • Problems printing to PDF from PPT 2K7

    Hi All,
I am wondering if someone here can help me. I have a user that is having an issue printing to Adobe PDF from Powerpoint 2007. He can save the file as a PDF but wants to print it so he can get a better resolution.
Office 2007 is installed on an Dell 980 XP machine SP3...
Adobe CS4 Design Premium is also installed.
When selecting 'Adobe PDF' printer and clicking OK the process starts but then crashes PowerPoint and bombs out... The error log generated saya this...
    %%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%
%%[ Error: syntaxerror; OffendingCommand: --nostringval-- ]%%
    Stack:
    /mFS
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

His colleague has the same software installed on a different machine and it works fine. I also setup a new laptop with everything installed for him and he had the same issue there... We don't use roaming profiles, so really don't understand this at all.
Would someone here be able to help me out with the error log above?
    Many Thanks,
    Matt

Is this problem with every ppt file? Can you create a PDF through the Acrobat Ribbon (click Acrobat in the PPT 2k7 menu and then click create PDF)?
Can you share your ppt file with us so that we can reproduce the issue at our end.

  • Problems printing Greeting Cards from iPhoto 6 and 8

I've had this problem since I tried it in iPhoto 6, and that is printing greeting cards in iPhoto doesn't work with my inkjet printer. When the first page prints, it's not centered, so when I flip the page and print page 2, they are not aligned and won't cut correctly. My Aunt is able to print cards from iPhoto but only by doing some long 20 step process of exporting them to jpgs using Preview, then printing them from some custom template in Pages. When Mr. Jobs said "Home Printing" was going to be fixed in '08, I got all excited only to see I'm having the same problems. Any one have any luck with this from inside iPhoto?

    Mark:
If you have a 3rd party editor that can handle layers take a look at Tutorial #8.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problems printing to LPT1 from DOS programs in windows 7

    Hello
I'm having problems connecting a Epson Lx-300 II to a computer (desktop) without parallel print port, the environment is:
    Windows 7 starter
Epson printer Lx-300 II connected via usb adapter
Old DOS program that just prints to LPT1 ports
I have done the following: install the printer, print the test page, as the programs need the LPT1 I share the printer (short name Lx300), then I tried to connect to the lpt1 port via DOS command net use (net use lpt1: \\caja\Lx300) but it ask me a password,
and no matter what password I give it return an error incorrect password.
I've read that Microsoft blocked out this port for security reason, I've done this procedure many times with xp, 2000, milenium, it works fine, but this windows resist.
I just don't know what else to do, I'll apreciate any help.
    M.A.M.

Dos is not supported in Windows 7. You need to install DOS virtual servers such as DOS Box to run the program. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. • I am having a problem printing pdf forms from the USDA FSA web site

The forms can be populated and printed but not saved. Each time I populate a form and try to print it the website stops responding. I have try without populating the form, I ve tryed different forms, different printer and system. restarting the computer, flushing my cache. I can print other pdf files, I can populate and print from other website. It only happening to me at the USDA FSA website after selecting an eform such as FSA 2002. Any help out there?

You should be able to right click on the PDF in the site and save the form. Even if you can not, once the form is displayed it is actually saved to the TEMP folder and you could play with that version. You will not be able to save the form with any data included, only the form itself since you are using Reader (by the way, there is a separate forum for Reader that might provide better answers).
To avoid the problems you mention with the web site, I would do the download of the form if at all possible and work directly in Reader on your system. That might solve the printing problem you are having. When I opened it yesterday, there was some linking to the site that I found a bit unusual, but I did not find anything in the PDF that would have done that -- I did not spend a lot of time looking for such things that would be typical of some JavaScript or such.

  • Problem Printing with iMac from XP Printer

Just got my iMac yesterday and it runs well. Using the iFelix website someone gave me hear, I set up my iMac to print from an HP Officejet 7310 connected to my windows XP machine. I was able to connect to my workgroup, and computer, and find the printer and connect to it. The driver, however for my computer is not there. I tried the Officejet 9100, and generic print device, and when I print I get the following:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0
    %RBINumCopies: 1
    %%Pages: (atend)
    %APLDSCEncoding: UTFS
    %%Title: (M
That prints out on the first sheet of paper, and then about 10 pages go through the printer totally blank, and then it will print that again. Not sure why it says Adobe, I do have Adobe CS 1 installed, could that be interferring maybe?
Anyways, I went to HP's site to download the driver. Here is the site I went to. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&produc t=391182&lang=en
I downloaded the first choice under driver, the "HP-All-in-one printing only web installer for Mac OSX." After I ran the file and it said it installed, I went back into my printer utility in the iMac and went to change printer model for the shown 7310. The officejet 7310 still does NOT show up in the list. I am unsure what to do and am totally lost, as this is my first iMac. Can someone please help me; I need to print quite frequently.

I think I might have figured it out. I went and downloaded something called ES-Ghost Script, Foomatic, and the HPIJS install files. After running ghost script and foomatic, I ran the HPIJS installer here on an iMac at work and when I go to printer utility and select the brand/model, I now see "HP OfficeJet 7300 Foomatic/HPIJS (recommended)" in my choice of model names. When I get home I will have to try this and I hope it works! I am still kind of confused as to why it printed out what it did using a different driver and saying Adobe. I hope CS1 didn't screw up something.
