10.5.6 - Any way to disable font smoothing?

Trying to see if there was a way to disable font smoothing for all sized of fonts. The so called smoothed fonts look plain washed out, I hate it.

Did you restart? Have you repaired permissions? If so, then there's something else going on. The first thing I'd try is to change display resolution. BTW, you need to add the OS version you're running in your My Settings file so responders have that info for troubleshooting.

Is there any way to disable font previews?

Having hundreds of fonts render in the drop-down inspector menu is a huge time suck - as Douglas Adams put it, just the act of pulling down the menu makes lights dim in my neighborhood. Trying to scroll down to the bottom and choose the right font is insanely difficult when the menu is jerky and slow.
Has anyone discovered a way to disable this behavior? Sadly, Apple did not provide a preference to turn off this unwanted, processing-intensive, annoying "feature."

Must be on a weak graphics card. I've never had any problems with it. Nope, can't turn it off. It exists in many apps, and I find it super useful.

I had created 60 users granting them connect and resource privileges in oracle(8.1.5.0.0).All of the users are working under their logins(users)...Every thing is going fine...But now i wanted to disable the objects owned by those users
(60 Users) for a period of 2 days,After that i wanted to enable them....Is there any way to disable the objects owned by them with out dropping the users?(The users should be able to work as prevoiusly on the new objects they will create after i disabled the objetcts owned by them previously)?

if my understanding is right you want to disable the users for 2 days for any reason let say he is on holiday for 2 days then why dont u lock this user and submit the job for unlock after two days.

Whenever I edit a jsff file (for example, type a character), I get a little box in the lower right corner with the text "Indexing 1 File." While this is going on, my text editor is blocked and I can't see what I am typing on the page, nor can I do anything else. This is really annoying and I would like to disable it. I have looked through Tools | Preferences, but can't find a setting. Is there any way to disable file indexing during editing?

App update notification on top right corner: any way to disable?

Hi all!
Running Mountain Lion I get a notification at the top right of the screen every time an App update is available. There are two buttons Update and Details but no Dismiss, "Go Away", or Cancel. I've got dozens of Apps on my laptop and don't want to update every time I get a notification. I figured out that a two finger swipe on the notification sends it off the screen (thanks Apple really obvious that one!). The problem is that fifteen minutes later it's back again!
Is there any way of disabling App Store notifications without disabling all notifications? I can't see one.

The thing is: I love AIR, hate spark, loved the 2006 pre-spark functionality. It is so much more convenient and user friendly. Given the choice between having the display seperate from the processing, or having it be convenient and easy to work with, I choose the later option.
For the most part it seems like the AIR api is like a layer on top of the spark - flex system.. I would like to be able to over lay the same AIR functionality on top of the the old system....

Is there any way to disable the use of the "Delete" key to delete an email message?

It's very frustrating when I hit the delete key and iCloud automatically erases the selected email message. I receive some HTML formatted emails that include a text box that I can utilize to directly reply to something. If I don't make any mistakes at all, I can utilize this box and post a reply. But if I mess up and need to delete text, instead of deleting text iCloud deletes the email message. Is there any way to disable this?

I don't believe it's possible to disable the delete key, but could be wrong. However, if you delete an email in error, you can restore it by pressing cmd + Z to undo the deletion.

In the Finder > View Menu > View Option > change the Text size.
This changes the size of text under the icons on the Desktop.
If you open any Finder window after this you can create a Default size for all windows from the same panel.

Auto correct is making me look like an idiot. I have to go back and psychically spell check my documents now. Is there any way to disable it?

Auto correct on my desktop Mac is making me look like an idiot. After I type it's changing words into other words I never typed and it even pushes words together that I'd typed a space in between in order to create new words that I never typed which make absolutley no sense.
Now after I type a document I have to go back and psychically spell check my entire document the old fashioned way to make sure auto-correct isn't making me look like a clown who can't spell.
Is there any way to disable "auto correct" on the desktop MAC and still keep spell check running?
The amount of messages I've sent out with horribly misspselled words or errrors as a result is maddening.

I had turned off auto-correct in the keyboard preferences, but in Mail all my spelling and grammer choices were grayed out. The key for me — as Kingoftypos points out — was "For Mail, open a new message/reply/forward. Then go to the Edit menu and scroll down to the Spelling/Grammar."
It would never have occurred to me to open a new message to be able to change the settings.

Is there any way to disable needles on a slider?

I was wondering if there were any way to disable needles on a slider. What I have is a slider with four needles, but I need to be able to disable two of the needles programmatically. I am currently setting the needles to transparent color and setting their values to +/- inf, but the user can still accidently select and move them. While this does not cause the program to work incorrectly, it does cause some visual confusion, since I am using fill modes. Basically, I am using the slider to allow the user to select areas on a graph, the filled area between the sliders are the areas that are being measured on the graph. The extra two sliders are for when the user wants to select multiple areas for measurement, and thus are
not always in use.

Just ran into this issue with an application. Solution attached.
Use the Value Changed Event and set the current value of the slider to the previous value. Some display artifacts occur as the UI thread is executed, but the subVI prevents the user from changing the value of a slider.

Is there any way to disable the firefox search option when you long press the home button on Samsung Galaxy S5 Active?

I have an S5 Active and sometimes the home button sticks and registers as a long press which brings up Firefox search instead of going to the home screen. Is there any way to disable Firefox Search so that this doesn't happen. I Love the Firefox browser but if this keeps happening I will have to uninstall it.

My client is using an external blue tooth ipad metal cover type keyboard and does not wish to have the radial keyboard / mouse visable or floating on desktop when connecting to vm with iPad using vmware view client v5.1.
i was unable to locate any settings or related toggle key/function combo keystrokes under iPad settings under vmware view client, to affect viewability of the radial keyboard/mouse. And can you kill it from service/process on vm instead of ipad? then dont allow service to restart at startup? What is the name of services that enable the radial virtual keyboard mouse - function to work?

I'm having a very similar issue. Sometimes, when I boot and type in startx (I'm not even a GNOME user--I use dwm and no graphical login manager), I just get a black screen. No mouse cursor, so I think X doesn't even load. It only started with the xserver 1.6 update and the update to that hasn't changed anything. What I've been doing is just rebooting until it loads normally (takes one to three times). Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes. Edit > Preferences > Parental, and check the box for "Disable - iTunes Store."

charging by usb isn't a problem , modern batteries do not suffer 'memory effect' just do what you want to do and don't worry about it . My N97 is connected to laptop most nights for anything from 10 minutes to an hour , no battery problem in 18 months and left on charge overnight every night . Enjoy your new phone and don't worry about a problem that doesn't exist
