10.5.6 error -1001

Hi,
Using a Macbook (Late 2008). Been trying to update to 10.5.6 via SU for a few days now and have been having a recurring problem. Having downloaded and installed all other updates (front row, trackpad firmware, etc) with no problem, every time I try and download the 10.5.6 update I get a error -1001 network timeout error notice, even when plugged into my router using an ethernet cable. I've never had network issues before and only seem to be having them regarding this update.
Apples tech notice regarding 10.5.6 applies to those who's installation hangs, nevertheless i tried their fix of clearing the Library>Updates folder. No change, still recieve the error.
Read on these forums that others who have had the -1001 error in the past have deleted the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file in Library>Preferences and solved the issue. Have tried this and it also did not work.
Can anyone help?
Also, as an aside, am now manually downloading the 10.5.6 .dmg file from Apples website. As a new Mac user im worndering, do I just run this file when (and if) its finished downloading?

There is a bug in Software Update which causes this problem: downloading from the web site gets round it (as I assume you are doing) and the update should fix it for the future.
When you have downloaded the update, I should restart the machine in Safe Mode (hold the shift key down while starting up): this will carry out a disk check. Then I should open Disk Utility (in Application/Utilities) and run a Permissions Repair. Then just open the updater and follow the instructions: it's quite straightforward. It will restart the computer twice, and then you're done: you could run Permissions Repair again to be on the safe side, though it's probably not necessary.
Don't try to do anything else with your computer while the updater is running.

I apologize if this is not the correct location for this question but it was the closest I could find.
I am working in salesforce trying to add a new content pack. This screen uses a tool written in flash. The screen that comes up is an error with the following:

I have been working with SalesForce support but they don't have a clue and want to punt to Adobe.
The support staff at SalesForce has no trouble accessing the page with the flash control from thier pc. I have tried several computers in my office and from several browsers (IE 9 and Chrome). I have reinstalled Flash Player 11 and cleared browser caches. Nothing seems to work.
It has to be something common to computers in my office or my network. All of the information I can find on the Internet talks about rebuilding the application and redeploying it. I can't do that since this is part of SalesForce and not something I own. Also, it works for them on their computers.
I am running windows 7 64 bit. I have McAfee running (and have checked that Flash is not blocked).
The flash player itself works when I go to the Adobe site and try other content.
The only other odd thing I have is that my hard drive is encrypted.
Any ideas?

I have cleared the browsser and flash cache data then restarted browswers and windows. Still no luck. I reverted the flash player back to 10.3 after following the instructions in the link you provided for a clean install but still get the error. SalesForce did not state what version of FlashPlayer they are using but I will check with them later today.
All of the machines that I have tested on have been at the office and all have encrypted hard drives with PGP desktop. I am going to try my laptop on my home network tonight to see if we are blocking something during the download.
This is driving me nuts. I know is it something specific to the machines in the office or the office network but I can't find it.

How to deal with "Error 1001. The specified service already exists" when install a service using installer package?

Hi everybody,
I wrote a "Class Library" project which is a service using Visual Stodio 2008 recently, then tried to use a Visual Studio 2008
Setup Project to install it.
Here is what I did for the "Class Library":
1. Finish the program.cs, Service.cs
2. Add Installer
3. Change the serviceInstaller so that "StartType" to be Aotumatic
4. Change the ServiceProcessInstaller2 so that "Account" to be LocalSystem
5.
6. Click in F5 (Start Debugging)
Here is what I did for the Setup Project:
1. Add the exe file built from the "Class Library" project to the Application Folder
2. On the Custom Action Editor, add the exe file from 1 to Install and Commit
3. Change the property of the project so that "RemovePreviousVersion" to be true
4. Click on F6(Build Solution)
Then I tried to run the msi file from the built of the Setup Project. Because I modified the two projects serveral times, I uninstalled the Class Library using "Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs" before I reinstall. Two things I notived:
1. After unstall, the registry was not cleaned up about the installed program
2. After several rounds install/uninstall, I got "Error 1001. The specified service already exists"
My questions are:
1. How to cleanup the registry when uninstall a program?
2. How to deal with the "Error 1001. The specified service already exists"?
3. Did I do anytbing wrong with the "Class Library" or the "Setup Project"?

Hi Simon, not a problem!
I spent some more time on this and here are few more notes:
it is called Major Upgrade, when you are installing new version of the product upon a previous one and
MSI supports 2 strategies:
Strategy 1. Install a new version and uninstall previous one. (Install a new version right upon previously installed version (file merging is performed based on dll version number) and the delete previously
installed files)
Strategy 2. Uninstall previous version and install a new one (Delete all previous files and install from scratch new files.)
From the first look it seems that 1st strategy is weird and buggy. But, remember, MSI is great because it's transactional!!! That means that if once some of the phases (Installation, Uninstallation, Rollback, Comit) fails, your machine
will be reverted to the previous state and it'll be still functional.
Let's consider both strategies:
Consider you have installed product_v1.msi and you want to install product_v2.msi.
Strategy 1
1. MSI engine copies files from Product_v1 directory to TEMP directory
2. MSI engine merges files based on the assembly version (between v1 and v2)
3. Once merging is completed successfully it removes files in TEMP (RemoveExistingProducts action triggers it) and you got product_v2 installed, otherwise if it fails MSI engine revert machine to V1 and copies previous files from TEMP.
Strategy 2
1. MSI engine tottaly removes all files from v1.
2. MSI engine installs v2 files and if something goes wrong you cannot revert back, because RemoveExistingProducts allready worked out and MSI doesn't have files to revert machine back
I recommend to everybody to use Strategy 1 and leverage MSI transaction functionality. And you can set this strategies by defining sequence of RemoveExistingProducts action. See more info
here. So, I think it's not even a bug in VS as I said in the upper post it is default recommened behaviour.
AND, you got "Error 1001. The specified service already exists"
because if we follow Strategy 1 MSI engine tries to install Windows Service on top of the existing service and OF COURSE it fails MSI engine (StopServices, DeleteServices actions are executed before actual
installation and they look at ServiceControl table). In order to stop service first and delete them you have to fill ServiceContol table of the MSI (and then StopServices, DeleteServices actions will recognize what to they have to stop
and delete), like this:

We can uninstall service first by following Strategy 2, but then we lose transactional support.
So, Simon did I encourage you to change your code a bit?:)
And, btw, if you don't want to change the strategy, please don't rely on SequenceID in MSI table, it can be change, you have to get the at the runtime.

Problem updating from Acrobat 10.1.10 to 11. Error 1001, and am told to connect to update server. When I activated the installer, message said Install failed, contact manufacturer for assistance, so I am.

I am using a 2011 MacBook Pro, running OS X 10.9.5. Have been using Acrobat 10.1.10, but got a pop-up notice from Adobe today, saying that it had been awhile since last logged on and my software was due for an update. However, after downloading the update Acrobat 11, the updater seems to be unable to FIND the file to update, so it asks me to select the file to update. When I found it, the file icon was grayed out, and wouldn't allow me to select it. Gave me a message for "Error 1001". I'm an experienced Mac user, but not a programmer, so I don't know what that means. When I tried to run the installer from the downloaded file, it stopped, saying "Installation Failed" due to encountering an error—which was NOT named or numbered—and that I should contact the manufacturer for assistance. Which I am ATTEMPTING to do, but it appears to be impossible to actually get direct help.
Suggestions, or better yet, direct answers, would be appreciated.

Did you ever figure out the problem? "Contact Software Manufacturer"?? That sounds ominous... I've got the same issue and I'm pretty durn aggravated right about now....

Hyperion Financial Reporting : Error 1001

While connecting from Hyperion Reports 7.0 to an Essbase cube (Ver 7.1.6.6) stored on another server, I am getting an error (Error 1001: Unable to connect to datasource) while running any report. However I am able to create reports using the metadata of the cubes.
The problem occurs only when I try executing any report. :-(
Is there any API issue out here?
Can anyone help me debug this situation?

In my case restart of Hyperion Financial Reporting - report server service helped and reports were available again.

Windows 2008 R2 SP1 - SCDPM 2012 sp1 ru3 tape recovery vhd error 1001

recovering vhd from tape shows me an error 1001 ,no information, I try to access the page and nothing appears.
try it several times and it's the same, I did the complete restoration of a virtual in a network folder and does so without problems.

if I tray to recover vhd from de tape daily, no problem, but if I tray to monthly tape the error 1001 appears

RSL Digest error 1001 - only effects 10-15% of our users

We recently deployed an updated version of a Flash application on website, using the same sdk as for previous versions.
However, now some users report they cannot load the application and are getting error 1001 reporting that the digest entries do not match for the RSL "framework_3.5.0.12683.swf".
We used this same library compiled as an RSL with the previous version of our application, which all could access just fine.
What I really cannot understand is why only a minority of our users would experience this problem (and most either have up to date plugins etc, or updated to latest version in attempting to get the new application to work), while most can access the application just fine.
THe only thing that really changed was we now use the swfobject method to embed the flash content, previously we had been using the AC_OETags.js to embed the Flash content...
Of the users who are effected by this, some ar on Windows, some Mac - and all different browsers to - so there is no pattern whatso-ever to help identify the problem...
We use Flex SDK 3.5 (but I have Flash Builder set to compile against 4.1 using compatibility mode 3.5) and this is not new this release... (I like being able to access the ASDoc from within FB ;-) )

So after 2 system crashes I went looking online for the cause of the event ID error 1001. My search led me to this forum where I learned about a memory test which ended up informing me that I had a memory problem.

So now I come to the community with a cry for help. I am a pretty tech savvy guy but I have never come across this kind of problem before and I don't know what to do from here. I have contacted the memory manufacturer and am awaiting a reply.
Does a memory problem mean I need to replace my RAM?

did not find any memory problem!!

Won't update (error-1001)

Hi!
I've been trying many times to run the software update but everytime I do it it goes the same. It starts like is downloading but at the end give me the error -1001 and tell me that check my network connection. My network connection is ok because I could you search on the web and use the msn. I try it using the wireless and ethernet and still the problem. What could it be? Thanks.

Network error (-1001) during Mac OS check update

When I try to check new update for my MAC OS 10.5.6 an network error -1001 appear. I run the network dignostic utility and the network works properly.
Concurrently if try to use SAFARI, it hang too.

Try this:
Quit Software Update,
Then trash or move the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist preference file located in HD->Library->Preferences(Folder) to your Desktop, and then re-launch the Software update.

Playbook setup problem error 1001

Hi,
I just got a new playbook 32gb and during the initial setup I set the language --English -- Date format -- and connected using wifi which was successful.
In the next step it started searching for updates and I found a error '1001' and unable to process.
When restart the PB I see error 3000 and changed the wifi setting by connecting to a enterprise network and still couldn't complete the setup.
Any help appreciated in this regard.

RSL Error 1001

Flex Error #1001: Digest mismatch with RSL
framework_3.0.189825.swf. Redeploy the matching RSL or relink your
application with the matching library.
Hello good people,
I have tried fixing this according to the following URL's
instructions:

but it's either not doing it or I keep scewing it up.
I have also read:

and it doesn't look like I'm screwing it up, but I could me missing
something. The real issue is that I tried to show this at my
customer's location and now no matter what I do, I can't seem to
either get rid of the files that are in the browser cache or it
just doesn't work. It only does it when deployed to the server. It
never happens on my development machines.
I don't have a computer here that it doesn't work on, even my
wife's machine runs it just fine and she doesn't have a development
environment, so I'm a little confused as to how to handle this.
If someone has a ready answer i would appreciate it. If you

Your file worked. I was able to run with ,45, after uploading
it to the server. I believe I understand why this was happening.
You can tell me if I’m wrong, if it matters. Below version
,115, the player RSL’s are not signed and the player loads
the swc file, not the swz file.
This became apparent to me when I saw that on the FLEX Build
Path-->Library Path Tab, there existed a build path library of:
framework.swc.
Expanding this library revealed an RSL URL property with the
signed library -- framework_3.0.189825.swz – as the value.
Underneath the RSL URL as an attached property is listed the
Failover RSL URL with a value of -- framework_3.0.189825.swf --.
I’m a simple man, so I’ll just put it this
way… When the player can’t make sense of an swz file
because it can’t load signed files, it looks for the swf
file. Since the swf is not signed, it has a digest that links it
with the application to provide security protection. For some
reason the framework_3.0.189825.swf library that came with the sdk
and by default was being used by my application was not linked
properly. By the way, this happened on a new install to a virgin
machine.
Okay, I used the ant file, and had to modify it to get it to
work. For one, it’s not well formed, missing a /java end tag.
Second, and this is what I need you to verify for me, I don’t
know why the line
OpenElementTag--arg line="--digest.rsl-file
@{rsl-dir}/@{swc-name}.swf --digest.swc-path
@{swc-dir}/@{swc-name}.swc" --CloseElementTag
would work because the swc-name needs to be framework in
order for the optimizer to output it with the correct name (at
least to stay within the naming conventions we are using). So what
happens is the argument line --digest.rsl-file
@{rsl-dir}/@{swc-name}.swf cannot find the swf that was created by
the optimizer since the swc-name variable does not match the name
that was created with the optimizer (--output
'@{rsl-dir}/@{swc-name}_3.0.${build.number}.swf' =
framework_3.0.189825.swf). I tried to use the ${build.number}
again, but it must be getting assigned from the metadata of the
optimizer, I can’t quite figure it out. I finally got it to
work, by hard coding the name in like so…
OpenElementTag--arg line="--digest.rsl-file
@{rsl-dir}/framework_3.0.189825.swf --digest.swc-path
@{swc-dir}/@{swc-name}.swc"--CloseElementTag
I’ll get back into my Ant documentation and see if I
can figure out how to code for that.
I am attaching the build file I created. Place it in the
root\sdks\3.0.0\frameworks directory and it should work right out
of the box. It is setup to use the standard directories. This is a
windows installation, but it should work on Linux.
I hope we can put this to rest. Please correct me if I have
misunderstood what is happening. You have my heartfelt thanks for

Network Error -1001

I have a MacBook that is suddenly unable to make certain connections wirelessly.
I am able to connect to the internet just fine and browse around, but when I try to search for Software Updates or even upload pics to Flickr, I get a notice that I have a Network error (-1001).
I have tried 2 separate wireless access points at work with no luck with either. I have another Macbook here that did find and load Software Updates from my airport quickly and without problem.
Network Diagnostics says I have no problem with my internet connectioin. I have run the Disk Utility to repair permissions and Disk Warrior, but the problem persists.
Any ideas?

Yes - I just had the same problem when I upgraded my Mini to 10.5. Software update was able to connect to the internet and tell me I needed to install a load of updates, but when I tried, I got this; "A networking error has occurred: Cannot open file (-3001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
Clearly this is absurd and likely to lead less-computer-savvy people to want to throw things out of high windows and curse Apple roundly for the stupid contradiction. Apple - please fix this!
A work-around is to go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ - download what you need (listed in the software update window) and install each package separately - I just did that. It takes longer and it's a bit more 'techy' than it really should be - but it does work.

Silverlight error 1001

Hello! i have been trying to get SIlverlight 5 to work on my mac for Netflix and keep getting error 1001. I am running 10.7.4 and have a 2011 Macbook Pro with i5. I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, run an older version, i have arial and verdona fonts, i do not have any parental controls on, i have called Netflix they sent me to Microsoft and of course they do not know how to figure out their own software so they have sent me to a Mac forum. Has anybody else had issues with this? Any suggestion? Thanks.

several people are getting the run around Call MAC, then Apple says they can't help with 3rd party sw. Microsoft needs to offer support for their own software. T hat is so stupid to me that they won't help people using their software,
I have went to extensive lengths reseraching this issue and even removed the files in the Microsoft folder and in the reciepts folder and still no luch. I also read that Silverlight 5 won't work with Mac any longer and netflix streaming. Not sure if that is true. A lot of UNHAPPY NETFLIX people are canceling their accounts. Guess i am going to do the same.
