10.5.6 has killed my network connection

10.5.4 Leopard upgrade completed yesterday and found that it wouldn't recognise the WEP passowrd to my network. Had to manually "assist" for it to find network, annoying but at least it worked.
When it persisted I called Apple Care today who suggested various things which didn't work and concluded by suggesting I upgrade to 10.5.6 as "lots of this sort of issue have been ironed out'. You guessed it...WORSE, It can find the network but just will not connect to it. despite resetting-up the connection etc etc. Anyone else suffering from this. known issue?

Did you use the manual combo update?

  • Latest Apple TV Kills entire network connection

I was super excited to purchase my first Apple TV, until I hooked it up. I have found if I use it wirelessly, it will kill my entire network within a short amount of time. 10-15mins. After that time, no computer can access anything on the internet, and the Apple TV will not find the library again after I finish watching whatever was playing. But, everything runs smoothly until that point. It finds the library, internet access through ATV is fine, remote app on my iPhone works fine, it's beautiful! …for a short time.
Through troubleshooting that issue, I found if I connect via ethernet, it will not find my iTunes library at all, but it will connect to the internet just fine. ????
I've found a few random things on the web related to this, but they are all in reference to old ATV models, and I cannot seem to come across any posts mentioning my exact problem. So far, I've tried doing the following on both wired and wireless connections:
-made sure my Linksys router has the latest firmware version available
-tried increasing the client lease times on the router to roughly 1 week.
-tried manually configuring the ATV IP to maintain a static address, but it still kills the entire network when running wireless, and will not find the library when wired in.
I've never had problems with my network before; it's been running smoothly for 5 years. I've also been streaming Netflix to my LG Tv for about a year now with no issues. I am totally happy to invest $99 in an ATV-love the concept, love the convenience. But if Apple has something going on where it will only work with an airport extreme, I am not happy with investing $278 in an apple tv when my current wireless setup works just fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or how this can be resolved? I really do love the idea of having access to my media wirelessly, and would hate to have to return the ATV.
    Tech details:
Latest little ATV model, library hosted on a mid 2011 MBPro Core i7 running OS 10.6.8 with latest iTunes version. My library has about 65gigs of music and about the same in movies. We have that MacBook and 1 PC runing on the network. I am using this Linksys router: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/wrt54G
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Very similar situation here. My ATV3 is connected via WiFi, but it loses its network connection if the following two conditions are met: it sleeps, and my Aiport base station is turned off any time afer the ATV sleeps. When I power up the Airport again, the ATV does not find my network without either restarting or selecting the network manually from a list of nearby networks.
In other words, sleep is OK only if the network is never powered off.

  • Get File/Put File Kills Home Network Connection

Recently encountered a problem with Dreamweaver CS5 where when I try and put or get multiple files to my server, I lose internet connection. I don't just mean wireless connection, but my entire home network fails. I have to reset my router to regain connection only to have it happen again. I have tried hardwiring the laptop to the router, same thing. I have tried hardwiring the laptop to the cable modem, same thing. When the network fails, my PC that is hardwired to the router also loses connection. I am currently using the newest generation 17" MacBook Pro, 2.66GHz, 8 GB, with Mac OS X 10.6.4, running Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium CS5. My home network setup includes a Comcast cable modem, hardwired to a Linksys router that provides my wireless network as well as a hardwired connection to my PC. I can connect to my server fine and upload and download multiple files with other FTP programs such as Filezilla, but whenever I use Dreamweaver it kills my internet connection every time. I have tried to find other information on this and have only come across a few others who are experiencing this issue and can not find a solution. Please see the following links:
Seems it was a CS4 problem too: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2448960#2448960
Another person thinking it was a Windows issue: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7programs/thread/88a38e07-f050-4800-a1f7 -7b0570f88eaa
Between these threads and my problem I have narrowed it down to a Dreamweaver issue but can not find any solutions besides using another FTP program which greatly hinders my workflow. Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brian

the problem for me was my network cards driver.  I dont know how mac handles drivers but when i changed back to the previous version
of the driver it started working fine.  Before that i had to restart my network when i tried to put a big file with DW.

  • ATV Kills My Network Connection

Everything has been working fine until all of a sudden. Now when I launch iTunes and i begins to synch with ATV it knocks out my wireless connection. Any ideas? I maintain the connection UNTIL itunes synchs with ATV.

UPDATE:If I turn the security off on my router it works-obviously not a long term solution. I was using WPA Shared Key security. Any ideas?

  • As with many, Yosemite has killed my internet connection.

So, I tried upgrading to Yosemite the day of, and like many others here, my internet connection (wifi and ethernet) has yet to work.  I've tried a few different "tricks" but I haven't had any success.  I've even tried downgrading back to Mavericks, but most of the installed programs are non-existent.  Any suggestions?
    2010 iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core I3
    ATI Radeon HD 4670 256MB

I have the same issue. As many I tried doing this:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
    sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
Which will fix the internet connection till your next reboot or till you logoff. As soon as you login again or restart your Mac you will encounter the same problem again though. The underlying cause seems to not be with the internet or wifi connection though but with the way Mac OS X Yosemite resolves DNS. If you browse the web by using just IP addresses it'll work just fine.
Before Yosemite DNS was handled by mDSNResponder which eventually got replaced with discoveryd.
When I went to check my /System/Library/LaunchDaemons folder though I found that discoveryd.plist, discovery_helper.plist were sitting right next to mDSNResponder.plist and mDNSResponder_helper.plist.
My log files also showed a lot of entries saying: connect() failed path:/var/run/mDNSResponder
Maybe the actual mDNSResponder was correctly removed during the update process but the plist files in the LaunchDaemons folder remained causing our current problems ... I'm not sure.
What I did was I removed mDNSResponder.plist and mDNSResponder_helper.plist from my /System/Library/LaunchDemons folder and so far my internet connection seems to be working fine even after I restart my Mac or logoff and login again.

  • 7.7.2 Firmware TC update has killed my network

I recently upgraded to TC 7.7.2.
Within a few hours my network was crashing, internet performance was slow; a netgear wifi extender I had kept crashing - all round bad news. I finally figured out how to roll back to 7.7.1 and everything is working again - or so it seems.
    Beware 7.7.2!

    I'm finding the same.
Even after resetting and adjusting settings, in brodge mode 7.7.2 is klling it—and not in a good way.
I'm still checking out various configs.

  • Centro Default Network Connection

I have an Unlocked GSM version of Centro. The SIM I have installed has a default Network connection that Centro some how knows about, and I cannot delete or reconfigure it.
I usually use bluetooth at home as the network connection going via my PC to the Internet, and it is working fine (with centro and previously on Treo 650)
The problem is: when I run blazer it automatically chooses the connection configured by the ISP. This applies also to VersaMail, but not for most other applications (e.g. GoogleMaps)
Question is : Is there a way to be able to choose the connection I want with Blazer and VersaMail.
Post relates to: Treo 650 (Unlocked GSM)

    Try this thread:

    It worked for me.

  • Losing Router/Network Connection

I'm having this problem more and more frequently -- when my computer wakes up it has lost its network connection (via ethernet to a router). The normal IP address should be 192.168..., but when this happens its shown as 169... The only way I've been able to fix the problem is to restart. It started happening about a month ago, but only very occasionally. Now it's to the point of me having to restart 2 or 3 or more times per day. It only affects my computer, the other computers on my network (1 ethernet and 1 airport) are OK. Any suggestions or reasons why this is happening with increasing frequency?
    Thanks.

One thing that might help temporarily from having to restart, is to use Gnarlodious' fine ALL OFF suggestion to toggle to, then back.
I don't know what that means.
Just a hunch, but I'd try this even though it says WPA2 and different symptoms & HW, wish Apple would update that doc, as many other reconnect problems get fixed by it...

This article refers to airport problems. My computer does not have airport, so the settings it shows are not available to me. I'm using an ethernet connection.
Thirdly, though I always use this at first sign of trouble myself, get Applejack...

This sounds like it does much the same thing as Tweak Freak or MacJanitor. I run Tweak Freak periodically. I just ran all the maintenence routines, so I'll see if that helps.

  • Frequent lost network connection

I just got my apple tv and set up went easy peasy...here's my question. In the last 2 hrs it has lost the network connection about 5 times. So far 2 times while I've been watching a movie. I have verizon fios internet and This is my 1st foray into streaming content. I use the abc player on my ipad at work and the frequent buffering on that drives me bonkers (I attribute that to the free wifi speed or whatevs). Anyways is this frequent lost connection to be expected? Now 3 times...

By the end of movie I had to reconnect 6 times...is that normal?

  • What does "untrusted" network connection mean?

If your airport comes on with full service but has an "untrusted" network connection what does that mean?

I believe the "untrusted" network your are referring to means that this type of network is open or unsecured. In essence, anything you send/receive over an untrusted network could be see by anyone.
For WiFi, we use encryption to "trust" or secure a wireless network connection. The most common encryption used today are WEP, WPA & WPA2. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107921)

I can not dowload the new updated software for my Ipod touch 4G. When i do I get an error message that says Network connection has timed out. I have done the trouble shooting steps. Downloaded the latest version of Itunes, and checked network connection

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

  • TS1424 I am having issues downloading music from iTunes, it comes up saying an unknown error has occurred - please check your network connection. Now I can connect to iTunes store and have itunes as an exception for downloads so don't know what else to do

Hello, I've started having an issue downloading songs and apps from iTunes to our PC which has Windows XP Professional installed. We also use Karspersky Anti-Virus and Firefox as an internet browser. Have never had this issue before, it comes up with "An unknow error has occured and downloads are stopped with an error 8003. Also says please check your network connection" We have no issue connecting to iTunes store or the network so not sure how to fix this. It is very frustrating. Have checked Windows Firewall and iTunes is an exception, can't think of anything else why it won't work.

I sounds as though you need to start again. The following article tells you how to completely remove iTunes and Quicktime. If you didn't actually install iTunes you wont find it in add/remove programs so you can't do that bit, but still delete the iTunes folder in Program Files as advised in the article.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93698
Once you have got rid of them, try installing the latest version of iTunes. There is a link to it in the article.
Itunes wont move your music for you, get iTune sgoing then ask again.

  • Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old.

Why has my ipad lost connectivity to the AT&T cellular data network after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2?  My iPad is model #MD367LL/A, 32 GB WIFI + Cellular, about 2-1/2 years old. It;s been working perfectly up until now.  I have no problem on my home WIFI, or through personal hotspot working through my iPhone 5.
I have worked with AT&T, replaced the SIM card with a new one, and done a backup/restore to factory settings, all with the same result that when I turn Cellular
Data on, with or without Enable LTE, it goes into "searching" mode, or reports "no service".  My iPhone 5 works perfectly on iOS 8.1.2, on Cellular.  I've browsed the blogs and have tried Apple's suggested fix, all to no result.
Oddly enough, every once in a while I do get connected to the network for a short ime (minutes), but it always returns to "searching".
I've filed a report with Apple, along with a request that they contact me, but no results yet.
    Help? (and thank you).

Hello razmee209.  Thank you for your response.  I spent the better part of yesterday working with Apple Support.  They tried their best, to include backing up photos to my HP laptop, backing up the iPad to iCloud, then resetting the iPad in total.  Same problem.  I restored from the cloud to recover my apps, same problem.
AT&T installed a new sim card - same problem.  I spent time with AT&T Support yesterday, too.  In both cases, (Apple and AT&T) the support techs who worked with me were extremely polite, courteous and helpful to the best of their abilities, but I think the problem lies deeper, and nobody at Apple is admitting they have a problem with iOS 8, that I'm aware of.
I didn't have this issue before I upgraded to iOS 8.1.2.
Everything else with the iPad works fine:  WIFI, Personal Hotspot, email, all my apps, etc.
In browsing the web for this issue I see that many other folks have the same problem.  I filed a report with Apple this morning, requesting that they contact me, but no word yet.  I was going to go to iPhone 6, and had been considering the iPad Air 2, but I see reports of this problem with those units as well.
At this point I don't think I'll be spending any more money with Apple, at least not till this issue is resolved.
Thanks again for your response and suggestions.
