10.5.6 update has completely killed audio editing and burning capabilities
So I ran the 10.5.6 update last night 12/19/2008. I downloaded the update to a flash drive and copied it to my desktop (My Macmini isn't connected to the Internet). I ran the update, and everything seemed to be OK. It was late at night so I went to bed. I woke up and did some errands, then came home to resume my mp3 file cleaning using Roxio CDSpinDoctor.
The app won't launch now (neither will Toast). I've been to the Roxio support site and they are just now becoming aware that Apple's update kills their software. So far about three dozen people have the same issue. I'm not alone in this, so I know the problem isn't my mini. Everything worked fine until this update. I've read here about problems with Time machine, internet, and mail since this crap was unleashed on us.
I used to trust Apple updates, because unlike Windows, they used to test them before releasing them, to make sure they wouldn't destroy peoples other software (remember Windows XP SP2?) I guess Cupertino is just becoming another Redmond.
I'm going back to Tiger and forget about Leopard.
Update: I am no longer able to burn CDs from iTunes, or Dragonburn either, and they BOTH worked before this update.
Quicktime editing of mp3s is slow, and saving takes about three times longer than it did two days ago.
I'm definitely erasing this drive and putting 10.4 back on.

After 40+ hours of trying to solve the problem, I finally confirmed 100% that this update is the issue, and fixed it by restoring to 3.5.3.
Just wondering why Apple has no info on this after the 20+ tech calls we made over past weeks fell on deaf ears, trying to blame our ISP.\...

The goal is to mount the combo update .dmg on the desktop and then open and run it. If you can't get to the desktop to begin with, that won't work. Another approach is to treat the Mac's hard disk as just another HD by using a second Mac and then connecting the problematic one via Target Disk Mode. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1661. Note that both Macs will need Firewire ports and you'll need a FIrewire cable to connect them. With the combo updater, one of the steps in the process is to select the drive you want to install the update on. Once you're successfully connected in Target Disk Mode, the problematic drive should appear in the list.
If that doesn't work or Target Disk Mode isn't possible, the only other solution is to boot into Recovery Mode; see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718. Note that once booted into recovery mode, you have access to Disk Utility, and you should try running Repair Disk after selecting the bad drive to see if something's wrong with the directory which could be fixed. When you select that drive, you should also look at S.M.A.R.T. Status at the bottom of the window. It should say "Verified." If it says Failing or Failed, the HD needs to be replaced.
If the HD is OK, all that's left that I can think of is to reinstall Lion using Recovery Mode. I hope you've maintained current backups or at least complete Time Machine backups. Of course, if you have a backup and the backup is bootable, you could boot from that, wipe the internal HD clean, and clone the backup onto the internal HD. -

Some other iPods (that are not shuffles) have an onboard setting to change the playback speed for some types of iTunes media, such as audiobooks. But a shuffle has no screen, to change such settings.

If that does not help, you may want to do a Restore on the shuffle. The Restore button is on the shuffle's Summary screen in iTunes. This will erase the shuffle, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. The shuffle will be like it was when new, so this problem should be fixed. -
I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?
As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

have you use latest version of nvidia driver, you have a compatibility issue here.

I need audio editing and cd making software advice.
I have been using Toast 8 to edit audio tracks and make cds and have reviewed Toast 9. This software has a lot of stuff I never use and excludes some valuable features like pitch shifting. Does anyone know of a stand alone audio software that includes a good pitch and tempo shifter, a normalizer that actually works and saves audio tracks until you make your cd? What I am really looking for is a program that is audio only and very good. I have reviewed Sound Studio but am reluctant to try it because reviewers say its pitch shifter is poor. I need some advice.
I would recommend at least downloading the trial version of Sound Studio and trying it out. I work for Freeverse (the publishers of Sound Studio). I asked around, and there have not been any complaints about the pitch adjuster in the latest version 3.5.5, AFAIK. You can adjust the pitch and tempo independently.
The trial version is fully functional, and is only limited by the number of times you can launch the program (10 times).

Trying to import .mov audio file and burn as MP3
Can someone point me to a thread, or be kind enough to post answer, about how I might successfully import a .mov audio file and wind up burning it as an MP3. I've been dinking around with this for too long. I can import it and end up with it in the format: MPEG-1, Layer 3. But when I burn it to CD and play it on a Sony boom box, I hear nothing. I tried playing it in another iMac and hear nothing.

Slightly OT, Audio editing and enhancement tools
HI,
I know this is a little off topic, but is needed for Audio in CP.
What are the best applications for editing and enhancing any audio in my CP files....is it software by Adobe or Izotope for eample.
I want to get rid of some background noise amp up the volume of the speaker/narrator & enhance the voice tones etc....
I know we have Adobe Audition, but I see that as aminly and editinmg tool rather than the removal of background noises etc, but what do others use for this purpose...?

RossAdobe Audition is an excellent tool for removing background noises as well as doing all the other tasks you described.
I think you need to investigate Audition's abilities a little more, as it seems from your post you are still quite unfamiliar with the tool. There are quite a few good video tutorials about it on Adobe TV. -

Update has completely ruined Droid Razr Maxx Hd
As stated I have a droid razr maxx hd and ever since the kit kat update my phone has been close to useless. I have browsed the forum and seen multiple complaints and proposed solutions to the problems like mine and I have tried them and none have worked. My wifi signal reception is half as good and no changes have been made to the home wifi setttings. Areas in town where I would have full 4g reception including at my home are now 3 bar 3g reception. I have been missing calls for work because the phone is constantly searching for signal and is in between 3g and 4g in areas that before were always max 4g. With wifi turned off, if I pass an open wifi spot the phone will lose all data connection until im out of reach of the wifi spot. The phone shuts down on its own and battery life has been cut in half with absolutely no changes since the update. No new apps no change in how frequent the phone is used. I have done the very harsh factory reset and re-installed apps and no luck. I feel like im out of options and don't know which direction to go because I've still got 5 months before im eligible for an upgrade and I don't think I should have to pay full price for a phone when I enjoyed the phone I had until this update was forced on me. The rep at the local store told me about a plan to pay for the phone monthly but Verizon would be making me pay another 20 bucks a month to buy a new phone that this update screwed up along with me GIVING them the phone I paid for. I don't want to leave Verizon as I liked their service before all of this happening but I cant see paying 600 for a new phone that I didn't tear up. Im almost at the end of my rope...any help would be greatly appreciated.
I also have had the same misfortune. I am appalled that I was forced into updating my phone to Kit Kat. My phone just randomly freezes, shuts down, reboots itself, and now I don't have the battery life that it used to have. I could normally leave my phone on for 2-3 days and now it just shuts itself off more than once a day.
It seems none of the "fixes", that have been suggested, work. I don't know about you but I also lost my Swype and this new app they had me download is not nearly as good!!!! Wasn't it Motorola that "forced" the update? ...not Verizon. I know I had to call Motorola for any issues.
We need to have them change the phone back to its original programming... I wasn't asking for an update so why did they send them to all of our Razr Maxx HD phones? AGGRAVATING!!!

10.5.3 Update Has completely made my MacBook useless
Yeah, I updated to 10.5.3 last night after hearing very little about problems it was causing (I always wait with OS updates until it seems safe). Anyways, it took an hour for it to install the update and an update to Logic Pro that I had put off for a few weeks. Once it finally restarts my MacBook (2.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, got it in November), it won't go past the Apple screen with the throbber. At all. I left it on for 2 hours and it didn't go so I finally force shut it because the bottom was getting extremely hot and I was worried about damaging the computer. Apple store doesn't open for two hours but I was kinda hoping I could avoid going there because I would really hate to have them send my MacBook in for however long it takes. I do have AppleCare, though, so that's not a problem. I tried using my Leopard restore disc (thinking it would go to that instead of the Leopard OS and allow me to do a fresh install or something) but it still won't go past that screen and now I can't get the Leopard Restore disc out of the slot. Pleeeeeease help me here.
Also, if I do have to take it to the Apple Store in a few hours and they end up sending it in... am I in danger of losing the data on my hard drive? I have stuff on there that I seriously cannot lose (like the files for a web template I am working on that will be worth $400 to the guy I am making it for when I am done).

Had the same issue a while back after an update to 10.5.2... Do you happen to have a Time Machine backup? If so, put the Installation and Restore CD in and press the power button while holding the C key. Once it is booted up into the CD, click on the utilities menu and click "Restore from Time Machine Backup", choose latest 10.5.2 backup and click restore. Give it an hour and you will be back up and running... Then update to 10.5.3 WITHOUT OTHER UPDATES!!!!! By the way when the update is done the computer will restart, finish the update at the Apple logo boot screen and then restart 2 more times before finishing...

OH AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A BACKUP, YOU HAVE TO DO A FULL ERASE AND INSTALL... HAVE YOU TRIED HOLDING SHIFT WHILE TURNING THE COMPUTER ON? (PUSH AND HOLD SHIFT THEN PUSH AND RELEASE POWER BUTTON) AND BOOTING INTO SAFE MODE? MAYBE YOU COULD SAVE FILES... AND TRY BOOTING INTO SINGLE USER MODE BY HOLDING COMMAND S WHILE PUSHING AND RELEASING POWER... THEN ONCE INTO A TERMINAL LIKE ENVIRONMENT TYPE "fsck -fy"... THEN TRY REBOOTING... ALSO WHEN IN THE INSTALLATION CD CLICK UTILITIES AND DISK UTILITY... THEN CLICK REPAIR PERMISSIONS AND THEN WHEN FINISHED REPAIR STARTUP DISK... LET US KNOW...

Other than the well know 3G and stability issues, my iPhone 3G has been behaving well since I got it two weeks ago (I did a restore as soon as I got it home).
But with the iTunes 7.7.1 release, the sync and backup process are hosed.
Backups
-Take 30 minutes or more every **** sync.
-On the Edit/Prefs/Syncing tab, the backup file listed is "Unknown", and the time stamp is 12/31/2000 7:00pm.
Syncing
-If I resync (say, to install a downloaded application update), the iPhone crashes out of the sync back to the home screen while iTunes continues to think the iPhone is syncing. And I can't get the iPhone to resync unless I kill iTunes (which won't stop even after I tell it to quit even though it's syncing [it's not, the iPhone isn't even in the cradle at that point]); sometimes iTunes won't die without killing it from the Windows Task Manager.

Yosemite 10.10.2 update has slowed down my iMac and Macbook. Anyone else have this problem?
My iMac and Macbook were operating well until the Yosemite 10.10.2 update. Now, the wheel spins when I try to scroll down on pages, or when I try to move from screen to screen. Programs freeze up more often, needing to be forced to quit, or just crash altogether. Safari has been particularly affected. Both computers are only 6 months old. I close all other programs and Safari tabs, but this does not help.
(iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3; specs on Macbook not handy as I post this.)
