10.5.6 update- Peripherals not recognized

i ran the 10.5.6 update today thru Software Update (I was on 10.5.5 beforehand)- it went screwy. After the update installed and the machine restarted it would not recognize my apple wireless keyboard or mouse. After a few other restarts (several of which got no further than a blue screen and mouse cursor that kept vanishing) it would let you move the cursor around, but not pair properly and respond to clicks. I pulled out an old wired mouse and keyboard- same thing. you could move the cursor, but no clicking and no keyboard. I called apple support and they had me reset the PMU and boot from the Leopard install CD. The keyboard and mouse work fine OUTSIDE of the OS. They finally had me do an archive and full reinstall. I was on hold for about 10-15 minutes while the guy i was talking to asked around the floor for ideas on a fix. when he came back on, he told me since the update is so new, they had no idea what was going on. I just finished the reinstall about 20 min ago. Look out for 10.5.6!
if anyone knows what the heck is going on, I'd love to hear about it.

Download the 10.5.6 Combo Update and run it. Be patient because it will reboot twice and run for a while. It should fix your problem. Good Luck.

  • Logic Pro 7.2.1 Update is not recognizing my 7.2.0 app.  HELP!

    grrrrr, this is so frustrating!
Logic Pro 7.2.1 Update is not recognizing my 7.2.0 app. Any ideas?

To prevent cheating, the updater checks the receipts
first — receipts files look like regular package
files, but they're actually a list of pointers to the
files installed from that package, together with
    their attributes: location, checksums, owner,
permissions, and so on... That's how the repair
    permissions function works.
If you messed with your receipts folder, you may be
out of luck: in this case, re-installing everything
will rebuild the receipts and the updating
    should take place.
Yet another option would be to use Pacifist:
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
    • it allows the user to create receipts for [.pkg]
    packages
    • it can be used to force installation of any file
    from a given package
Be aware that Pacifist doesn't run any of the
    pre-install, post-install, pre-upgrade, or
post-upgrade scripts, doesn't check already existing
receipts, and doesn't alter the permissions
afterwards, so you'd better know what you're doing...
nice illustration on the repair permissions....

  • Updates are not recognized

Many of my apps have been updated recently, but iTunes isn't recognizing/downloading them. For free apps this is no problem, I just "buy" them again and force the update that way, but for commercial apps I don't know what to do. Crosswords cost $10, and I really want the update, but I don't want to pay a second time. Neither iTunes nor the on=phone store are allowing the update to be recognized.

I have come up with a workaround to make the iTunes see and run updates. This worked in my situation. It takes a long time to do this by the way. It took me at least an hour...
    Here We Go:
The Situation I had was: I had an iPhone with lots of Aps installed. They all work. Eight of them were needing to be updated (including purchased Aps). My iPhone was the only devise that recognized the need for these updates. On my Powerbook (in iTunes) it said there was not any updates needed at this time. Here is how I "fixed" it...
    1) I opened iTunes on my Mac and went to the "Applications" section.
    2) I turned on my iPhone and looked at the Application on my iPhone called "App Store."
    3) I then deleted (from iTunes on my computer) all the applications that the "App Store" on my iPhone wanted to update. There were 8 it wanted to update. I even told my computer to "move" these 8 items to the "trash." At this point, these 8 Aps were only on my iPhone...even the purchased ones.
    4) I then plugged my iPhone into my computer. VERY IMPORTANT: The computer told me there are "Aps on the iPhone that are NOT in iTunes." and asked if I want to put them in iTunes from the phone. YES!! you want to take them from the iPhone and add them back into iTunes. If you do not then you will erase the last copy of your Aps!
    5) Once the Aps were finished getting pulled back onto my computer from the iPhone (20 Mins later)... iTunes told me some of them "need to be updated" Yippee! It worked.
    6) Not done yet... At this point (of course) tell iTunes to update them. However, you then have to reconnect the iPhone and do the entire Sync again (20 more mins) to get the now updated Aps back onto the phone. Time wasted... but at least it worked.
Final notes... After I got the Aps back onto iTunes from the iPhone I did restart my computer and also turned off/on my iPhone. To turn your phone off hold the top button about 8 seconds and it will ask if you want to turn it off. Press top button again to turn the iPhone back on. In situations like these it never hurts to restart any/all hardware right?
This workaround worked for me. I hope it helps others also. I should add that it wasn't perfect. 2 of the 8 Aps were still the old version on my iPhone even after this was done. So I decided to update those directly from the iPhone. It takes a long time but that worked also. Why not update ALL 8 from the iPhone? Because it takes so long. I need to use the iPhone again before summer is over! Good luck. Use my advise at your own risk. Obviously. It did work. I am happy to say all my Aps are up to date again.
P.S. I am confident Apple will fix this glitch in short order. They have not let me down so far as a customer.

  • 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 update - Superdrive not recognized

I recently did an update from 10.3.9 to 10.4 then immediately the compilation to 10.4.11
As my HD was starting to top out, I put in a previously burned backup DVD to review my last backup. It was recognized and read OK. I then put in a blank DVD to backup some files and received an error message. The disc was not recognized and did not spin up. Subsequently the eject key does not work, and a review of System Profiler indicates "No burning device was found". I'm stumped. Any help is appreciated.

Hopefully it's not some basic part of the OS Missing, or the DVD part of the Player giving up.
What does System Profiler say about the drive now?
Might try reapplying the Combo Update...

Hi, after update 10.5.4 my CDs and DVDs will be read and play in the Optical Drive, But when I insert a blank one, any kind, the finder will open and when I select to mount it "media not recognized" comes up. I have the same DVDs that Ive been burning to till this update with no problem at all.

I have a problem pretty much like that too, I updated my mac, and now my superdrive won't read my discs, but unlike yours, it spits the disc out.
I did find out that it can recognize DVD +R, sometimes, but it can nolonger recognize DVD -R.
Also my superdrive makes a sound like this: http://www.imeem.com/people/2tOboJ/music/gQwemcsY/superdrive_problemwav/

  • [N85] Nokia Software Updater - Device Not Recognis...

    Hello
I downloaded the most recent version of the NSU software. Hooked up my N85 and attempted to identify my phone. It fails to recognise the N85.
    Any suggestions?

No suggestions, we all just have to wait.
N85 is not (yet) supported by NSU, plus there are no updates available (again, yet ) anyways.

  • New Apple TV update & now not recognizing MacBook Air, all devices have home sharing ON.

This is getting ridiculous. I wanted to simply shoot my favorite playlist through to my TV & surround sound when a few friends stopped by. I went to turn it on using my Apple TV and wham, and had to install an update. There went 1/2 hour of waiting. Then finally done, and, nope....**** thing doesn't recognize the macbook air, or my iPhone, or my iPad. ALL have home sharing ON, including Apple TV, all are connected to the netwoork. But nope. I finally gave up after an hour of restarting all & trying to troubleshoot, find help online, but I had to get back to my guests.
These electronics are taking WAAAY too much time to update, diagnose, troubleshoot, ..... we do nothing anymore but sit on the computer.
Anyone have ANY idea how to fix this? Oh, wait, maybe I should kill two hours at a Genius Bar? Yeah, that would have been great: hey, wait a couple of hours everyone while I try to schedule an appt and get to the genisu bar so we can listen to music.

    Did you restart your router.

  • Software Update Not Recognizing Needed Updates

On my iMac, I needed to re-install Leopard - following which, Software Update is not recognizing that it needs to update - Safari, Mail, etc. By example, Mail is "stuck" on version 3.1. When Update runs, I get no updates available. I guess all the updated software is in the Previous System folder. What's the best strategy to fix this? - is there a way to reset what Software Update thinks it's already done or should I remove the previous system folder?
    Thanks in advance!

tried permissions - no luck there.
Thanks for the comment re having new & old versions of software - that may be the case, as after re-install of Leopard, the previous system (which in fact has the newer versions of Mail, etc) was saved to a folder.
Sorry, I'm usually more on top of these things - but I'm not really sure how SU works - I'm now assuming that it's finding the newer versions in the Previous System folder - sound right?
As a followup - is there any reason to save the "Previous System" if all is working after a reinstall?

  • IPod Nano 5G not recognized as device for itunes.

I recently got an ipod nano 5g, and itunes is refusing to recognize it. It is shown only as a disc on my desktop, and is not shown under devices in itunes. As this ipod still has stock software, it's highly flawed, and I'm hoping the update will add the common sense features I"m wanting. Unfortunately I'm not able to connect so as to update.
