10.5.6 verifying with DiskUtility can take ages
I recently upgraded a Powerbook G4 to 10.5.6 with a MacBoxSet. Although 10.5 is a bit bigger than 10.4, DiskUtility can often take ages to check permissions. Just the first step, reading the permissions database can easily take over 15 minutes. And I check on a regular basis. Another machine (G5 DP) I also upgraded is usualy a lot faster. How come? And is there something I can do about it?

no. this is normal. permissions repair in leopard takes longer.
Two things.
1. verifying permissions is a waste of time. it does nothing. repair permissions directly.
2. repairing permissions is not something you need to do often that would also be waste of time. once before system updates is more than enough.

I have my mail configured on my Mac running OS X 10.9.2 and on my iPhone with iOS 7.1
Sometimes, MacMail doesn't receive automatically the emails quick enough. (it can take up to 4 hours between receiving them on the iPhone and on the Mac.)
I constantly have to press the Enveloppe button to get my new mails.
I set up the "Check for new mails" to every minutes, but it doesn't change the thing.Hello!

I am planning to replace my 3+ year old MacBook Pro with a new MacBook Pro, Retina display... I have been told by "chat" on the Apple site that I can transfer my data wirelessly... on my network.. Is is a good option? I don't want to invest in cables if I can help it... since the old machine has firewire and the new one has thunderbolt! Will the wireless transfer take forever... as in 30-50 hours??? I've been hearing these horror stories...

[Solved] ssh to local box can take ages
I have a few boxes in my 192.168.1.* network.
One of them is 192.168.1.2 (which is also externally reachable natted through my router by $dyndns)
Locally, it has the alias 'server'
When I do ssh 192.168.1.2 or ssh server, it takes about 30 seconds or so until I'm logged in. But if i log out immediately and do the same command it's instanteous.
If however I wait a while (another 30s or so) I'll have to wait again.
If i go externally, by doing ssh $dyndns it works really fast.
Since by local ip the problem is the same, I don't think it's a dns problem.

I have a samba server that I maintain at work. The first acces after a long period takes about 10 seconds for the server to respond, but afterwards is very responsive. Much like your problem.
EDIT: Actually this can't be your problem as it works fine coming in from the outside. Unless you have a different physical network interface for the inside and the outside world

Im having some really anoying slow behavior with premiere and media encoder.
OS=windwos vista business x64
RAM = 12gigs
CPU= 2 X quads
Video card = bad *** nvidia card
SAN = Isilon cluster 3 X nodes, gigabit dual teamed NIC connection

Ok. So i have about an 8 minute project, nothing too fancy, trying to export an uncompressed avi to the network at 720p resolution to the cluster storage array, and adobe media encoder gets pretty slow near the end of the export, and is generally just a slow hog. Its not using but 10% of my CPU power, and its also not using any where close to my max NIC card throughput.
Anyone out there really good at FINE Tuning CS4 to the max??

First, do you experience the same problem when outputting to a local disk? If yes, then something with the export seems amiss. Then we need further details on your export settings to start with. If no, your network connection may be the troublesome part. What server OS are you using, what overhead/security can be degrading throughput on the NIC's? Are you using virtualization, if so what software? With other tasks on the network, do you experience the same lagging response? -
Apple Logo With Spinning Wheel Takes Ages

A peculiar issue with my awesome MacBook Pro.
I installed Windows 7 via Boot Camp, then deleted the partition using disk utility and resizing Macintosh HD. After removing the partition, my Mac boots slow. It will show the Apple logo quite soon after power-on, but then it stays at the Logo with the spinning wheel for 40 seconds or so before I see the login window!! I have tried to reset PRAM but to no avail.... So I decided to re-install Windows 7 via Boot Camp and do another PRAM reset and now it only takes 25 seconds (at the Apple logo) But on my pal's MacBook it takes like 10 seconds?? Do i need to Defragment my hard drive? Any tips in doing so?

I always have trouble with my mailbox. It is always asking for my passwords but everything has been verified. How can I get it to stop doing it and start working????
There is only one thing that happens -- the Server does not respond.
Your mac concludes that you must have entered the wrong password. That may happen once, but then other issues become more likely, and it keeps asking for a new password.
Sometimes the Server is down for maintenance. Sometimes something is configured wrong. Some services do this on purpose to get you to use WebMail (pick up your Mail with your Browser) so they can show you some ads. -
My grandson's IPad 2 won't hold a charge. It will only charge when the system is completely shutdown and it can take up to 8 hours to reach 100%! he's only 5 so he uses it to watch netflixs and playing games but a couple of hours after finally getting a full charge the indicater is down to 12%-13%. Keeping the system plugged up while he's using it doesn't do any good its like its not even plugged up. What could be wrong? Any assistance would be appreciated! I brought the IPad 2 in 2011 and gave it to him in 2013 when I brought myself the IPad Air...so its really not that old to be acting up...

Your LR5 license allows for activated installations on two machines. Of those two machine, only one can be using the licensed software at a given time. The same applies with CC, except with CC you won't be able to sneak in the third machine. What you can do though with CC is have it installed on all three and sign in and out of the different machines as needed.
If you intend to be using all three machines at the same time then you do need three separate licenses/subscriptions to be in compliance with the license agreement. -

If you have an old ID in Settings>iCloud as a result of updating to iOS 7, to change it you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change (you should need to verify the old account). Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Email on the new iPad (64) WiFi version can take up to five minutes to download a message. Same message on iPad 2 or new iPad (8) with WiFi are instantaneous. Wondering why and how to correct.
Try quitting the mail app and then relaunch it and see if the emails download correctly.

I can take pictures but I can't see what I'm shooting until after the picture is taken. I've already had to do one hard reset which deletes all my data. Is there any other solution? Is it a glitch that would be resolved by getting a different phone?
