10.5.7? Battery Low warning no longer appears

This is new. My 1.5Ghz G4 laptop powerbook goes to sleep without the usual early warning. I have run the battery down, reset the PMU, PRAM and NVRAM and the situation remains. The recent update is ominously coincident. Is it just me?
Ed

OK, it seems to be working again now. I let the PB run down again so it went to sleep without warning. Following the Apple support docs, I removed the battery and reset the PRAM, the reattached the battery and mains lead and booted into open firmware by holding down the power button until the prompt appeared, then I reset the NVRAM and booted.
I let the PB charge until the light went green and left it connected to mains for over 2 hours. Removed the mains lead and ran down the battery, it quit without warning again. Repeated the charge/wait/discharge cycle and this time the battery low warning DID appear.
Still charging at the moment so the power settings look kind of sensible, will post new settings when back on battery power.

  • IPhone ~needs~ an AUDIBLE Battery-low warning during calls!!!

Okay, I've been needing to do this for quite some time. I'm actually surprised to find no one else has made this complaint yet (that I've been able to find).
I am absolutely sick and tired of my iPhone dying in the middle of a call because I was not alerted to the battery's status once it got to 20% or lower.
Does it make sense to anyone else that this happens? You're on a call, to your knowledge the battery was full or reasonably full before but now that you're talking you can't see the screen and you're not thinking about it so you keep talking. A while later your call drops and as you start to curse AT&T once again for the miserable coverage & constantly dropping calls you see that it's not them after all, but your phone's dead battery.
Come on Apple.... How hard can it possibly be to program in an AUDIBLE-IN-CALL alert that tells you that your battery is about to die. This is so basic and simple that I'm finding it hard to believe that this hasn't been addressed before now!!! Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone. I will never need another phone as long as there is some variation of the iPhone in existence. But seriously, this is something that should have been dealt with AGES AGO.
I don't feel like I should even have to be saying this, but when you are in a call, your phone is against your ear, or if you use a headset of some kind, your phone is likely in a pocket. A Battery-Low warning that comes up on the screen is NOT going to be visible. There NEEDS to be a way for the iPhone to notify the user of a Battery-Low status that ACTUALLY GETS THEIR ATTENTION, not simply to remind them AFTER they've got it charging again that, yes, now that the phone is charging and back up from 0%, that the battery is still in-fact below 20%....
I really am a reasonably devoted Apple fan, but I am highly annoyed by this, because while I have had my iPhone 3G since the week they were released, whenever the above problem would happen to me I just assumed it would only be a matter of time before it got ironed out. I mean, come on, Apple's a smart company, and this is such a basic thing that lesser phones have had this programmed into their OS's going back to some of the very first cellular phones in existence, I know, I've owned a few.
    Apple, Please. Fix this.
    Thank you in advance.

And the option is still the same.  Give feedback to Apple directly at www.apple.com/feedback.
Nothing anyone can do here, other than recommend that you be more aware of your battery life.  Keep it connected to a power source when not in use, or if one is readily available when you are using it.  I have a charger for home, one for my car, and one at work.  I never see the battery low indicators, except in very rare cases.  It's very rare for my battery to be below 50%.

  • Why don't I get a battery low warning anymore, laptop just turns off?

My laptop is only just over a year old and I no longer get a battery low warning message. My computer just switches off. Have I disabled the warning somehow?
The battery lasts for about an hour and a half which isn't great. This is what System Profiler says about it:
    Model Information:
    Serial Number: SMP-bq20z951-3a6c-fac
    Manufacturer: SMP
    Device name: bq20z951
    Pack Lot Code: 0000
    PCB Lot Code: 0000
    Firmware Version: 002a
    Hardware Revision: 000a
    Cell Revision: 0100
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 1427
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 3751
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 339
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): -1921
    Voltage (mV): 10690
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You have the removable battery? In that case, you can expect it to have up to 80% of original capacity at 300 cycles. You have 390 cycles, and it's probably got less than 80% capacity if it only lasts 1 1/2 hour. It's very likely just at the end of its useful life. If you go to an Apple Store, they can stress test it for you, and very likely you will be told you need a new one.
Coconut Battery will show you the current battery capacity vs. the original battery capacity. Mine has 88% capacity after 259 cycles, but the last time I tried to calibrate it, my Mac shut off instead of going to sleep, although I did get the warning. I don't know if you can really calibrate it if it shuts down suddenly. The health on mine didn't change after the last shutdown.
    Good luck!

Depends on how long you have had your iPod. Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod. Or take your iPod Nano to your local Apple Store or an AASP.

Where has my "Battery Low" warning gone?
When it got below 5% (I think) I used to get a warning come up.  Now for about last 2 or 3 weeks it just shuts down with no warning.  Plus when I attach the power lead & switch on the battery status says it is at 27%.

Reset the SMC. I'm pretty sure that model has a removeable battery, so you want this method:
Resetting the SMC on Mac portables with a battery you can remove
Note: Learn about removing the battery on MacBook and MacBook Pro.
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
You shouldn't be running the battery down that low on a regular basis though. It'll shorten the life of the battery.

  • Battery Low warning - on an iMac!!!

Does anyone know why an iMac would generate a low battery warning when there are no batteries in my main computer system. Does it have something to do with the batteries in the keyboard or mouse?

    Thanks for that old_geekster.
Unfortunately, it turns out that the techo that installed the machine only gave me the drivers, as he claims that the HP programs were too extravagantly large! So, I don't have a HP program file and therefore no toolbox!
Guess I'll just have to put up with clearing the excessive number of warning messages until I empty the cartridges. . . .
    Thanks for trying to help.

  • Battery low - not low - low - not low

    Hi all,
My iPod Mini has been behaving very oddly recently. It's fully charged, I get about an hour of play from it, it's still charged and then it suddenly wipes out as "low battery". This usually happens after changing tracks (when a previous one finishes, not a manual change from me).
So, I wait a few minutes, turn the iPod on again and quickly select the first song I can get to, pause the song, turn the iPod off - during this stage the battery indicator is showing completely empty and I have to rush to do it before the "battery low" warning and shut-down.
A few minutes later, I turn the iPod on again and listen to that track for about 20-30 seconds. During this time the battery indicator is still completely empty - but after the 20-30 seconds it goes back up to where it "should" have been - about 2/3 full.
This is then okay for another short while of listening, and then it happens again.
Anyone else come up with this before?

do a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

  • My 20gb ipod never charges and now only shows the battery low sign

Hey, I really need help with this. I bought this ipod quite a while ago, but it was working fine till recently. My ipod does not charge when connected thru a power source or even the computer. And now the battery has died, so it wont even come on, it just shows me the battery low warning. Is there anyway I can restore it??

Hi, guys. If you haven't got the issue solved yet, I suggest taking/sending you ipod in to Apple. We had a 20GB U2 ipod that gave us this problem, too. We had to take it in to an Apple store and have them replace it (at no charge to us). We are now on our second 20GB U2 ipod, and it has started doing the same thing. Not good at all...

    Hello s0ha1b
If all you get is the Apple logo and it powering off, then the next step is to put your iPhone into recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it. If you have a back up, then you can put that on there to once the restore is complete.
If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • Nokia N8 and strange battery low notifications

I have strange experience with my Nokia N8 notifications about low battery. Other Nokia phones sending lots of "beep's" when battery level is low - my N8 sends only one (maybe 2, but this last one is before phone turning off). First one with asking, that i will turn on power safe mode and 2nd (whatever i choose power saveing mode or not) is the last one "Battey empty. Please charge" (or something similar.
I think this is very strange and **bleep** off behavior. Any1 had like me? Is any fix for this issue?
Thanks from advance for usefull tips and sorry, because my English is very weak.

I agreed with that, but what if i don't know, that my phone have battery low, because i left it on table or other place in house and i don't hear first warning? Phone will discharge battery for good and turn off itself. I have few situations, when i don't hear this first (and only) warning and i was suprised at the morning, when i saw my phone is turned off or in the middle of the day, when someone tells me, that he can't call in to me (because phone died). Other situation when i must use my phone when i have 10% of battery power, after switching to power safe mode (like quick check when i have bus on Internet, quick call to somebody or what is WORSE: when i write long text in QuickOffice and phone shows me middle finger...
Other Nokia's having LiON batteries too and they have normal notifications. Some thing is really messed up here and it must be fixed. I feel like HTC HD2 user (i was HD2 user), because this phone do exactly the same "trick"...

  • MBP 13" "Trackpad Batteries Low" warning.

I'm getting a "Trackpad batteries low" warning on my 13" MBP.  Are there specific trackpad batteries in a MBP?  I did have an issue with trackpad performance about a year ago, which a Genius appointment determined was a bad battery. I assumed it was the MBP battery. Replaced it and problem solved. This time I have no apparent trackp[ad problem, but am now getting the low TP battery message.
    Any comments?
    Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I will take it to Genius Bar one day (it is 1000 km away from us), but in the meantime, I would like to investigate the "no warning at low power" issue. The battery does the same rattling nearly from the first minute. I took it to NextByte (premium reseller) where I bought it, but they are useless, their service is crap.
My main question is at the moment, why I don't get any low power warning? usually I don't let it go down under 30%, but it obviously can happen sometimes. As I am a graphic designer, it is not the best thing to lose 3-4 hours work.
