10.5.7 Macbook so slower, unusable... can't open Finder nor see HD...

I installed 10.5.7 from Software Updates (I now know I should not have done it from there). After installing, my Macbook is basically unusable. At first I wasn't able to see the application icons on the bottom of my desktop, the power display and wireless display and whatnot on the top right hand corner, and saw no HD on the desktop either. After several hard resets, I finally have the application icons on the bottom of my screen and the upper right hand details (battery life, Bluetooth, wireless, etc... those these come and go sporadically). I can open Safari (but not Finder) and Safari will take 10-15 minutes to open. I rebooted in Safe mode, but still have the same issues.
I was able to get to the Combo Update, and tried to download, but it says it can't mount.
Now I'm pretty much stuck. I've had other issues with the machine and the last time I took it to the genius bar, they upgraded me to Leopard. I don't have any hard disk with leopard on it because of this.
What can I do?

I don't quite understand how Apple could upgrade you to Leopard and not give you the Leopard disk. You are correct, you cannot check the hard drive with the original install disk now UNLESS you want to erase and drive and start from scratch.
You need to go back to the Genius Bar and tell them you need a Leopard disk.
Check something please. Click the Apple Menu  and then click; About this Mac. Make sure it's running 10.5.7. It will be displayed in the About This Mac pane.

1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

It is hardly Apple's fault that Epson can't/won't update their driver, but at least Epson suggest that you use the Gutenprint driver, which in any case is far better that what Epson offer.

Can't open Finder windows or Preferences

I can't open Finder windows or Finder Preferences.
When I click on the Finder icon in the dock, use File>New Finder Window, the Go menu, or Finder>Preferences, nothing happens. I even tried opening a folder from Spotlight and "Open in Finder" from a stack but still nothing. I ran a cleaner (Cocktail) but no change. It's like having a virus. (Safari Autocomplete and Facebook login also stopped working about a day before I noticed this).
The only thing problematic that has happened recently was while I was on familyguyx.net, the page loaded without any trigger to one of those pop-ups that repeatedly appears until you reset your browser. Since then I haven't been on that site but these other issues have started.
Any help is really appreciated!

Do you possibly have the Applescript menu or even some text processor in your dock?
If you have the Script menu, open the script editor from that menu and type this into the untitled window:
tell application "Onyx"
activate
end tell
Then run it.
If you don't, open a text editor-if you can-and type the same thing into it. Select all of the text and look for Services>Script Editor>Run As Applescript. That should run the above script and open Onyx. Services is under the Application Name menu.
If those don't work, let me know what you have in your dock, and maybe I can figure out another way.

I would check System Preferences > Internet accounts and see if an item is active for Messages that should not be.
Alternatively delete the account in Messages > Preferences > Accounts.
Highlight then use the - button at the bottom of the list.
You could also use iForgot and check if the ID does in fact belong to you.
NOTE.
An Apple Issued Apple ID (@Mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com) can be used as the iMessages registration ID as well as a Valid AIM Screen Name.
An @me.com could have been issued any time during the MobileMe era and may not be active if it has not been "Converted" to iCloud.

Desktop is missing and can't open finder since upgrading to 10.9.5

Since upgrading to OS 10.9.5 my desktop is missing (no drives or files) and I can't open finder or empty trash. I can only access programs in the dock. I tried zapping the PRAM and it fixed it but the next time I restarted same problem.

You might have corrupt .plists.
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist. Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

My MacBook is slow starting up and slow when I am on internet going to sites. I read somewhere that there is a adobe flash that is actually some sort of virus? I beleive I had the pop up and hit install. How do I fix if this is the problem?

Adobe Flash is not a virus but Flash content is very resource-hungry. Flash developers don't know or care about your hardware or bandwidth, both of which have limitations. Buying a new computer simply so that you can look at Flash-based advertisements makes little sense to me. Just avoid sites that use Flash.
There are no viruses for Mac OS X. Keep it updated with software from Apple using Software Update. Without a more specific description of your hardware, the amount of memory you have installed, what third party system modifications you may have made, and what version of Mac OS X you are using, it is difficult to provide more specific guidance than that.
Read the following to determine if something may apply to your concern:
Do not download or install any product claiming to magically "clean up" or "speed up" or "optimize" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite. If you already did, you found the problem. Fix it.
If you're experiencing general slowdowns or "freezes" unrelated to Internet activity, the problem may be related to your computer or the software you installed and is something you may be able to fix, or at least improve. Hi,
after a long time Arch Linux runs on my Macbook!
Now I need an X-Server. After a while it runs too.
But I can't load i3.
When I starting it with:
xinit i3
i3 display: "ERROR: No outputs found via RandR, disabling"
When I use xrandr in commandline, it show's:
"Can't open display"
How can I fix it?

When you say you get that error in commandline, do you mean a tty without X running? If so, that is the expected result.
Not that this is part of a solution, but it may refocus on the problem: X/i3 is failing to start properly, this may not actually be related to xrandr.
As a test, have you / can you try starting the twm session described in the beginners guide? Does that work?
Then please post your ~/.xinitrc.

As mentioned, Apple only makes their iBook reader app for thier mobile devices. And iBooks epub files are DRM locked to iBooks, so you cannot open it in anything but Apple's iBook reader on an iOS mobile device.

Can't open Finder after Upgrade to Yosemite 10.10

After the Upgrade to Yosemite 10.10 on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display i can't open the Finder and it says it's not reacting. The bar on top when i'm at the Desktop is also gone.
Can somebody help me ?

I had this exact same issue, and I was just able to fix it (at least for now). I'm not an expert by any means, so I can't tell you why my solution worked, but if you follow it and it helps, then great.
First, you'll have to restart your computer and open in Safe Mode. Restart the computer and as soon as you hear the startup noise, press and hold the Shift key. Release it when you see the Apple icon. It will take a little longer to start up.
Then download and install the free software called OnyX.
Once installed, open OnyX and click on the Verifying tab, then click on the Preferences tab. Run the Check button at the bottom. If it tells you that you have any damaged files, double click them on the list, one at a time, and then delete those files.
Then I clicked the Scripts tab, and Executed all three scripts.
Finally, under the Cleaning tab, I clicked on System and executed everything except "CUPS jobs".
I then restarted my computer like it suggested (without opening Safe Mode) and everything was back to normal!

Firefox nor firefox-uninstaller will not open although I can see that they are running in "Processes" meaning I can't open it nor uninstall it.

Sometimes the Firefox window gets "off screen" somehow. You often can force it to appear on the screen by right-clicking the little thumbnail image above the Taskbar and choosing Maximize. Does that work?
