10.5.8 combo update.......will take 1 day 15 hours........

Hi- like many of you, I have experienced a slow-slow-slow internet connection since upgrading to 10.5.8. I have a MBP. I have a new TC (dual band) that was working very well prior to the upgrade. I have been reading a few threads and tried a few things and one thing I wanted to do is to download the combo update UNTIL I saw that it would take about a day and half to download with my slow-slow-slow network connection!!!!!!!!! Ha! lol Guess I will have to wait for that patch from Apple...... Anyone else see this same download time??? Amazing. Judy

You might be right on both counts. I didn't have an issue downloading the update from within Finder but it was the combo update that was going to take so long. I have Comcast as my ISP and admit that I don't know how to 'optimize' my wireless network....... Judy

Are you updating via iTUnes or 'over the air' wirelessly?
If via iTunes, the update is around a gig, so if you have slow internet, it could be taking that long.

No, not normal in any sense of the word(unless your connection is that slow). Could be the servers are getting overloaded as you and everyone else in the world try to download this update. Try again later, like tomorrow.

If you are transferring with Wi-Fi or Ethernet and you have to transfer a lot of files, it's normal. Wi-Fi and Ethernet are the slowest methods to transfer files.
Instead, you can check if your old Mac has got a FireWire 800 port. If so, you can get a Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter and a FireWire cable, so the transfer will be done by FireWire, making the migration faster.

The first thing to check would be your internet download speed, you can do this at www.speedtest.net.
HD movies require a recommended speed of 6 Mbps, while SD movies require a recommended speed of 2.5 Mbps.

It seems that I have solved my issue by performing a full factory reset (erasing all content, something which I had hoped to avoid) restoring from an iCloud backup did not alleviate the issue, I had to set up as a new iPad.
Hopefully anyone else else who has this issue in the future will be able to find this.

Devices connect to iTunes should be authorized (5 at a time). This is normal.
4 hours to download is more or less your Internet connection... I would talk to your ISP to see what package you have or test your speed connection yourself using this site http://www.speedtest.net.

It depends on a number of variables. It could be the speed of your internet connection, if you are trying to update OTA versus direct connection in iTunes, the amount of data, music and apps that need to be synced back to the device after the update. You can always remove the device from iTunes and perform a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The device may have completed the update and just not displaying correctly. If you do remove and it is not updated, just connect again and start the update again.

10.8.2 combo update will not install

I have a Mac mini late 2012, Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I face a problem with Safari and I thought that installing the combo update might help. However, at the "Destination Select" appears the yellow warning sign along with the message " OS X Update Combined can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update".
Any ideas ?.

Good luck - if you want to do an erase and reinstallation, you can do so by holding down the Command, option and R keys whilst booting. If you just want to do a new install of the OS, just hold down the Command and R keys whilst booting and go from there. The 'special edition' that your machine needs will be downloaded and installed.
