10.5.8 Server, Lost All Account Access

Yesterday (6/2/10), all accounts accessing the server stop working (expired passwords supposedly - everyone). Just finished complete reinstall of server 10.5, setup new accounts and appropriate access privileges. All working nicely. Ran updates, including combo to 10.5.8. Ran one more group of updates including Java for 10.5 Update 7 - then ALL GONE! Only Local Admin access to the computer functions. All Server accounts are gone, wiped out, cannot log into server.
Anyone else experiencing this type of problem? Solution?
I'm suspecting Java Update 7 is culprit.

Have you had any progress on this issue? I just experienced the same thing and am getting ready to start the troubleshooting process.

  • Osx server lost all accounts after a reboot

We shutted down the server today in the room, everything shuted down normally except it took quite longer than usual to shutdown ( 6 or 7 mins )
we started the server back and the administrator account was not working anymore.
I resetted the password using the original cd, the utility shown only 2 accounts localadmin and root.
I logged using the localadmin account, none of the other accounts are there.
The workgroup utility is sending back an error message related to ldap.
I scanned the disk with disk utility, permissions need to be repaired and there is a lot of acl related errors. The drive filesystem seems to be corrupted too and also need to be repaired.
I'm not sure of what to do right now to bring back the setup on track, what kind of fuckup can cause this ? There is nothing fancy in that setup, it's just a file and internal webserver.
    thx for any input.
    regards

just to follow my first post
It seems that the filesystem get corrupted while shutting down, dunno if it's related to the fact osx is installed on a mirror raid ( but it's working pretty well since nearly a year ).
The rest of the install seems ok, I corrected most of the permission error ( using 32 000 thousands chmod commands ) and now we are kind of back on track.
anybody know if Linux is running well on a xserve ?

  • The server lost all my sync data after new OS install (I know my pass & key); How do I get it back?

    Hello,
Ive been using sync on both my laptop and desktop in windows 7 and linux mint. Its been working great cross platform, but I recently formatted my drives and reinstalled everything. I obviously didn't save the Firefox passwords because I trusted the sync server to have it all. After a fresh OS install, I installed the latest ver of Firefox, logged in to my sync account and selected the default option for sync (both ways) knowing that the server has all my data and will download it onto my newly installed Firefox.
Unfortunately the server doesn't seem to have my data anymore as it didn't download any passwords I had saved and sync since before the full format/installation process.
How do I get it back now? Does the server has a roll back function?
    Thank you
    Ovi

Thank you again for your kind and prompt reply.  I really appreciate it.  I think the fact that I am transferring stuff from my old desktop PC to a new laptop has saved me.  I copied all the apps from iTunes on the old desktop to a flashdrive, then added those apps (via Explorer!) into iTunes Media.  Then I synched the phone.  I have got all but 45 apps back, including the data!!! How awesome is that!  It's 9.50 pm here in Australia and I have been sat in front of all this technology for about 15 hours now, so I'm giving up for the night.  Perhaps tomorrow, somehow the lost 45 apps will magically appear. I haven't quite worked out which ones I'm missing as I'm so tired.
I want to thank you most sincerely though for taking the time to reply to me.  You are wonderful.
Please, Heavenly Technology God, let this all work in the morning.

  • ICal server lost all delegation suddenly & day by day  - 10.6.8 OSX server

I really want to say how bad iCal Server is. It always lost all delegation after there are more then 10 people were setup in the delegation.
And it always lost connection, lost delegation, and never smooth. It is so bad that I would like to stop using this.
Is there anyone who know how to config it and make it better?

Oh my goodness, i have the same issue and searching on resolution.

  • ICloud transition lost all email access

    Hi,
I have read a few people are having issues with .mac / .me email once moved over to iCloud. Since my move everything is working fine, except email; this has not been working on Macbook, iPad & iPhone for 3 days now, it's now getting unbearable and I'm ready to throw all devices in the bin unless I know this is going to be fixed! (I'm in the middle of an overseas house sale with everythng on email!)
Has anybody else had no email access for this amount of time and is it just a case of wait even longer?
The main problem seems to be with p99-imap.mail.com.
Any suggestions before I unplug and put to the bin......
    Thanks,
    Nick

I have the same problem. For at least a day now, no email. I was travelling so don't know how long this has been going on. On top of that, my wife and daughter (on the same family account) have no problems. I have contacted Apple, they are reorganising my mailbox but that can take 24 hours they said.
I am a bit sad as well, it has worked for a few days since I migrated it from me to iCloud, but it is unacceptable to be without email for so long time, a useless service and it can cost us all a lot. I have been thinking to reroute all my personal email via gmail (I have a own website/email account that I can reroute to any other adress), since it seems that is working fine for ever. But what stops me is that my wife and daughter have no problems.
I have an appointment with a Genius, next thursday, and I wait till that 'rendez-vous' to decide whether to reroute my mail to gmail.

Nor does any other possible combination. So what's my next step. Do I set up a totally new user account? And if so -- how does that effect all the purchases he made that are on his ipod.
Also -- best way to synch once I have this set up so I don't lose all his songs? THanks all.

Unfortunately -- that's the problem. The email we are putting in is not working. It's not senidng the password to the account. I even went ahead and tried to create a enw account with the email I thought it was and it accepted it which says to me -- we didn't have an account under that email. So -- basically -- we have no idea what email was used to set up the account.
So I think ever getting access to my account is over. Any advice on what to do so I don't lose all the music that was purchased?

  • Mail crashed and lost all accounts

Mail just crashed, and whern I restated, it went back to defaults and all my accounts except .Mac have disappeared. My mailboxes are intact, except all mail in my inbox has disappeared. I know this info has to be on my HD somewhere, where do I find it and how do I get it back?

    Hello David.
What is your hard drive capacity and available free space?
As a firs step, check this link for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
When completed and with the Mail.app quit, using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
If you have limited free hard drive space - well less than 5GB available, do not place the copy of the Mail folder on the Desktop - this needs to be place on an external drive or anywhere else.
Using the Finder go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Delete the com.apple.mail.plist file and empty the Trash.
Note: Deleting the com.apple.mail.plist file will require re-entering all email account information when relaunching Mail with the exception of your .Mac account.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes.
After re-entering all other email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailboxes within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered and all messages are available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder.

  • 3000V100 Lost All IE Access

Have Wireless Connectivity and Ethernet connection
When I click to open IE browser a window opens but it remains blank and just hangs/locks up.
I had downloaded a Norton Update 2008, scanned and then had this issue. First Access Connections wouldn't connect at all nor would the ether. After a Lenovo System Restore I was able to at least get connectivity but no IE.
I have since removed all norton and done above. I currently have Wireless Connection and Ethernet but no Internet Access.
    Thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

FIXED!!! After 10 hours of searching and the like.....
Went to microsoft site and just needed to Restore and Reset Internet Options in the Advanced Tab.
I was determined not to pay the 2 hour minimum of $179per hr. $360 to lenovo. Not that lenovo hasn't been the best computer I have owned cause it has. My old IT Tech guy said once after giving me a new computer 10 years ago...repeat after me....I AM THE MASTER OF MY OWN COMPUTER...."good luck" LOL
    This is an awesome forum.

  • I suddenly lost all my access to my songs.  I have them on an external drive.  How do I get iTunes to recognize my external drive as my library source like it always has been?

I was using my iTunes Library and it is now gone.  I have my songs stored on an external drive.  I checked the connections and they seem OK.  I can't get the iTunes screen to show the sync button nor find my library.  Does anyone have a suggestion?

Was the media solely on the external library?  If so, it is likely that iTunes was started at some point with the external drive unaccessible.  Simply point iTunes to the correct library location.  To do this, close iTunes.  Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.  When prompted to find library or create a new one, select the find option and point iTunes to where the iTuneslibrary.itl file is at on your computer (or external drive).

  • Have lost all FTP access for DWCS3

I just created a key for Ct for a client on my computer and
suddenly cannot establish an FTP connection for any of my sites. Is
there possibly some connection here between the two or purely
    coincidental?

    Coincidence, I think.

  • HT201342 What is the mail server for iCloud users? I lost all my emails, trouble with email account set-up.

I lost all me emails, what is mail set-up? Mail.me.com?

Incoming is imap.mail.me.com.  Outgoing is smtp.mail.me.com (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864).  But if you're setting up iCloud mail on OS X Lion or higher, you go to Settings>iCloud and check Mail.  This will add the account with the proper settings.

  • Both my iphone 4s and my ipad3 will not connect to the server when trying to access my email account. Why, and how do I fix it.

Since 29/10/2012 my iphone 4s and more recently my ipad 3 will not connect to the server when trying to access my email account. All I get is an error message saying that 'cannot get mail, connection to the server failed' I hadnt changed any settings it just happened. I have since done a complete re-boot on the ipad but to no avail. Anybody got any suggestions?

No. Everything was working fine and then it wasn't. I hadn't changed any settings or switched either one off. When the phone stopped working properly I ignored it because I always have my ipad with me but that just sopped working properly and now I am stuffed. I have tried most solutions suggested on here even wiping the ipad clean and re-booting. I did this exactly the same way as when I first got it but still no joy. The same with the phone.

  • Lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account

lost all my mail in my inbox +my mail account settings except @mac.com after a crash of my system.
When I rebooted my mac, a pop-up from mail was telling me that it had created a new folder called "distributed" in replacement of the usual "sent items" folder. This last folder is still there but is empty.
Can I somehow recuperate the settings as it was before the crash?

Hi Jake, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
After we're sure those things are OK, we can go further.

  • Windows 8 upgrade lost all my account settings

I just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8 and it deleted my Thunderbird program. SO, I reinstalled it but I've lost all my account settings and e-mail folders.
I stored my e-mail folders in another location, and they're still on my harddisk, but I no longer see an option for controlling where the e-mails are stored in this version of T-bird.
Do I have to manually recreate all my e-mail accounts again? And, after that...how do I get it to read my e-mail folders? I have thousands of e-mails that I must have access to. This is a disaster!
    Please help.
    Thank you so much!

Thank you for your reply, but I don't think I was clear with the problem. I can find the account settings option. The problem is everything that was there before I installed Windows 8 is gone. I have to manually re-enter all my e-mail accounts, but all of my old e-mails are not showing up. I can get new e-mails (if I re-enter all the account information), but I have thousands of old e-mails and folders that I cannot access.
How do I get those folders back "into" Thunderbird? It doesn't allow me to import anything. I am only given the option to import from Outlook, and I don't even have outlook.
I was storing (at least I THINK I was storing) my e-mail files on a separate partition of my hard disk, and I THINK it's all still there, but there's no way to access those files for some reason on my newly installed Thunderbird.
