10.5 and Canon ImageRunner 6870U: No Landscape Printing!

A while back (see here), I got my office's Canon ImageRunner 6870U all set up to run on my PowerBook G4 running Tiger. Recently, I got a new computer (MacBook Pro) running 10.5.4, and set up the ImageRunner, and all seemed great.
Until I wanted to print in Landscape.
The Print Preview appears to work correctly. When I print to PDF, it generates a landscape-oriented page and everything looks right. But when I send to the printer, it seems to have put the page into landscape orientation, but printed it onto the page in portrait orientation (i.e., there's a big top and bottom margin, and the right side of the page is cut off). I looked on the ImageRunner itself, which can display a preview of the page to be printed, and it displays exactly what it eventually prints (the wrong orientation), which implies to me that it's a problem on the Mac end.
The problem was previously reported by another person back in January at MacOSXHints. However, it sounds like they were printing (to a different iR model) using SMB, which I'm not (I'm using Canon IP). In any case, it doesn't seem like the problem was resolved for them.
Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated!
--Mike

Based on John's reply about the Page Setup > Orientation not being saved within a preset, which I totally agree with, I was wondering how your preset would be showing the document preview in the correct orientation. The only thing I can conclude is that the file must have been created as a landscape document, because the preset will not influence the orientation if this is set via Page Setup. So how is your landscape document printing on portrait paper?
I did some testing with our iRC6870. I created a landscape document in Word and then saved it as a pdf. I then opened the pdf in Preview, which showed the document in landscape orientation, and printed it using a preset that have stapling and two-sided set. This document printed fine.
I then took the same document, and chose to print it to a cassette that had the paper loaded as A4R. This was the only way I could get the landscape document to print the same as your result, with the large border on the top and bottom.
So, could the presets also have a tray selection saved, and this tray currently has the paper loaded in a rotated (short-edge feed) orientation?
If this is not the case, you also mentioned that you can preview the document on the 6870, which shows the output you are getting. Since there is no ability for the Canon board to do this, then I believe you do have the imagePASS-G1 print controller, as this RIP does give you previews of printed jobs. I also believe that you may be able to select orientation via the Printer Features and this was set in the preset. Can you confirm this please.

  • Printing to Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 network color printer

    Hi folks,
I'm the lone Mac user working in a corporate Windows environment. I've succesfully been able to use IP addresses to print to various HP printers, but I'm so far unable to print to the aforementioned Canon ImageRUNNER 3200 color laser printer. I downloaded Canon's driver for Mac OS 10.1/10.2/10.3/10.4 and tried adding it to the printer center as an IP printer but it won't print. Then I tried adding it using Canon's IP printer utility (I saw it in the pull down menu from the print center) and that doesn't work either. It seems to see the printer on the network, but just won't print. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I was doing some Googling and saw the device Queue Name for ImageRunners is "print." Try entering that in Printer Setup.

  • Postscript errors CS5 and Canon RIPs/Printers

About to lose my mind here....
We upgraded our entire Creative dept to CS5 about 3 weeks ago. Since then, I've had 3 or 4 users experiencing the EXACT same issue printing to both Canon C6000 and Color ImageRunner 5051. When printing JPG files, they are now getting PostScript errors (i.e. "Error: limitcheck OFFENDING COMMAND:  STACK:  [1289 0 0 60 0 0 ]...."
NEVER, and I mean NEVER, have we had an issue with PS errors here. I've been here 3.5 years. I'm not finding any updated Canon drivers that addresses this issue.
Here's what everyone is running: 10.5.8, CS5. Printers: EFI Rips.
Really stumped here and can't find a fix.

I don't think so. These are being printed straight to letter or tablod paper.
I think there's definitely a CS5 issue going on here, as again, this never happened when we were on CS2 or 3 until we upgraded last month. And the fact it's happening with the same files to two completely different printers (i.e different drivers as well) points directly at Adobe again.
Fortunately, the one workaround SEEMS to be if you copy and paste the jpg image (this also happened with a PSD image, so this was more difficult with layers) to a new file, it printed out. Still, something isn't right.

  • Can't scan to Mac OS 10.6.4 from Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7055 - HELP!

Hi all, our company just purchased a Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE C7055, I have the Drivers and all the Macs in the office (both 10.4.11 and 10.6.4) can print to the printer but when we try and connect via the Scanning feature from the Canon to the Mac OS 10.6.4 it doesn't work. All the File and Screen Sharing is On but it just doesn't see the Macs with OS 10.6.4 for the purpose of scanning to them (they can print to it however).
The Canon manual naturally has nothing on this problem so I'm hoping someone has encountered the same problem or is smart enough to work out what is going wrong from my post.
    Thanks in advance

Nevermind it was an issue with not having the SMB switched on in the File Sharing options.

  • Acrobat Pro 9.0 printing to Canon ImageRunner 3220 prints only first page of multi-page documents?

We just got the new CS4 and with the Acrobat Pro 9.0 install, we cannot seem to print multi-page documents.  Only the first page comes through, and the queue clears as though the document's been fully printed.
We are running Windows XP Pro SP3, and the printer is the Canon ImageRunner irC3220.
I do not want to use the "Print as Image" option, as I don't want to rasterize the file before sending it to the printer. It's an important document and it's imperative that it is printed at high quality.
We had no problems printing with Acrobat 8.
I've seen old posts regarding this issue, but couldn't find anything newer that might have had an updated solution.
Thank you in advance!! any help would be sooo appreciated right now!

    Great! Many thanks

  • MacBook Pro won't print in color to Canon ImageRunner network printer

I have a MacBook Pro that I have installed drivers for and I am able to print to the Canon ImageRunner Color 5185i printer in our office. However, I cannot seem to get it to print in color. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Canon but to no avail. Anybody have any ideas out there? This is a network printer with it's own static IP on the network. So frustrated...

I was having a similar problem with an HP printer. When I checked to see which driver my laptop was actually using (System Prefs>Print and Fax>Options and Supplies>Driver), it was using some sort of generic driver that worked fine for black and white, but wasn't getting color. I chose the HP driver out of the set listed and can now print in color. I know you said that you installed the latest drivers and you have probably already checked to see if those drivers are actually the ones being used by your computer, but if not, that might be a solution.
    Good luck.

  • Problems with Canon ImageRunner C6870U

I was wondering if any of you have experience with the Canon ImageRunner C6870U, or any of the ImageRunner series and would be willing to help. I have read several posts about other ImageRunner models, but haven't been able to solve my problem.
My office just got this new machine. I have downloaded the driver (v1.80) and installed according to the PDF in the disk image, but no luck. It appears that things have installed correctly, but when I go to print:
-- The "Special Features" menu doesn't appear in the pull-down menu of the Print dialog box. I have checked that the Page Setup specifies the printer model.
-- The PS PrintMonitor utility says "The Printer Is Ready."
-- When I tried to print, though, the job doesn't go and the print queue is stopped.
Interestingly, if I just set up the printer to communicate via AppleTalk in the Default Browser of the Printer Setup Utility, I can actually print to it, but the "special features" (e.g., mailboxes) don't appear in any dialog box.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the driver several times. I'm really confused! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the response! I had read some of your previous posts related to the ImageRunner series, so I knew there were people around who could help.
    Here's what I've done now:
    1) I checked to make sure that LPD is active (it is), with a default queue name of "print." Port 9100 services are also available, and AppleTalk is enabled. Just a note -- on this model, I wasn't able to find this setting in the menus on the device, but rather using the Remote UI.
    2) I added the printer as you said ("More Printers" -> Canon IP (PS)), and entered the printer name and "print" under queue. In the printer list, the printer is identified as "iR5000-6000 Canon PS." (More on this below).
    3) Opened TextEdit and made a test document. When I hit Print, a little (Canon) warning appears on the screen saying "Acquiring Information From The Printer," then the standard Apple print dialog box pops up. In the pull-down menu, my choices are: Copies & Pages, Layout, Scheduler, Paper Handling, Color Sync, Cover Page, Error Handling, Quality, About, Supply Levels, and Summary. "About" says that I'm using the Canon PostScript Driver v1.80. "Quality" shows a blue box, and buttons for "Printer Info" and "Quality Settings..." The Printer Info button pops up a window that says, "Printer Information Generic", with one tab reading "Configuration," and info that the duplexing unit, stapler, etc are Available.
    4) When I try to Print, it appears to try to do it, but then the queue is stopped with the file still in the queue.
    5) The PS PrintMonitor program attempts to start up, but a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot find the printer to monitor: Print Monitor is closed."
    Other notes:
    a) I can select the printer in the Printer List and Show Info, and from here I can change the "Printer Model" (is this the PPD file?) from IR5000-6000 Canon PS" to "iR C6780 Canon PS." Changing this seems to have no effect.
    b) Setting up the printer using the IP Printer -> LPD process (rather than the Canon IP (PS) process) had the same results in every way, as far as I could tell. Putting in the IP number, rather than the printer name, has the same effects.
So I still can't get it to work -- from your post, it sounds like the driver isn't installing correctly, since I don't have the right menus under the pull-down menu in the Print dialog box.
Thanks again, hope you can help!

  • Canon ImageRunner C3200, the bane of my existence

So in a small office of about 10 macs, we have an imagerunner C3200 from canon. There are some older macs like emacs, and some newer macs like mac minis. Most are on 10.4, but some are on 10.3 and even 10.2. These guys don't like to buy new things until old things break. So anyway.
    So here's the download page:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/html/download/cir3200.html
Its a complete mess of unclear info. So I download all of the OS X stuff. Heres the thing. Sometimes you install a driver, and you'll get a full printer dialog when you add the printer. It lets you store on the printer instead of printing directly (so you can then print however many copies you want from the printer). It lets you set finishing things like binding or staples etc. But sometimes you don't get these things.
Also, in the 'add a printer' browser, the printer shows up twice, C3200_S and C3200_D.
On newer computers I'm trying to set up (on tiger) D doesn't seem to work at all. S works but we can't store things on the printer.
Canon doesn't offer any tech support for commercial printers, you have to go to an authorized service provider. All of the service providers turn dumb the minute you mention Mac OS X.
I need to figure out what the trick is here. I need to get all the tiger machines printing to this printer, with full abilities to do all of the finishing options, and the option to store things to the printer instead of printing directly.
This is so frustrating, no one seems to know anything about this. I'm this companies Mac guy, but theres only so much I can do before I need to talk to a Canon person and have them explain to me what the trick is here. But I can't do that, all Canon would do is give me a list of other companies to call. These other companies only service through a service contract when you buy a printer. They did get a service contract from the company they bought the Canon through, but they don't know anything about Macs. And all we have in this office is Macs.
There is one 10.4 mac that has the full print dialog, so I know it's possible, but I can't recreate it at all on any other 10.4 Macs. This is making my head spin.

Reading through your original posting I think I have some answers for you.
The two printer names you see in the printer browser are the queues, S is for spool and D is for direct. If you want to send print jobs to the machines mailbox, so that jobs are held in memory and can be re-printed when required, then you would need to use the spool queue.
In order to print to the mailbox, you need to use Canon PS driver. This is the driver that gives you a graphical view of the copier and all the machine finishing features. However, the PS driver does not support AppleTalk. If you want to print via AppleTalk, you need to use the Canon PPD installer, but this will not give you all the features you have seen on the 10.4 Mac.
So to get the features you want you need to get the Canon PS driver, version 1.80 or 1.81. Don't download the Canon PS v2.0x driver. This does not support the iR C3200.
With the PS driver v1.8x installed, you add the printer via the More Printers > Canon IP (PS). This window lets you enter the ip address of the iR C3200 and a queue name of LP, SPOOL or DIRECT (in your case you want either LP or SPOOL). When you click Add, the driver software queries the printer, selects the correct ppd and configures the paper tray and finisher options.
To print to the mailbox, you change the Copies & Pages menu to Special Features. Then in the Job Processing menu, you select Store. Then when you select Print, a window appears prompting you to select the mailbox number.

  • Canon ImageRunner Mailbox

I am upgrading from a Dell Latitude to a MacBook. My firm's network has Canon ImageRunner printers, and each of us has a mailbox on each printer. I've found the printers and can print to them, but I cannot seem to find the option, even within the Canon drivers (I think) to print to (store, really) my print jobs in my mailbox. Any similar experiences? I'm not sure that the Mac version of the ImageRunner drivers supports the store feature.
    Thanks for any suggestions/feedback.

    Hi PAHU,
I am still experiencing problems trying to print to my Canon iR3570 after reading all of your similar posts and was hoping that you may be able to provide some more advice.
I have looked at the printer and can see no sign of an EFI imagePASS controller (there's no other box attached to the printer - the ethernet cable goes directly into the side). I am therefore assuming that it is using the standard Canon controller.
I have uninstalled the Canon PS3 v1.80, reset the printer system and then reinstalled the driver. Using the "More Printers" option, I added the IP address the of the printer and a queue name of "LP" (and have tried with no queue name). The system finds the printer, but incorrectly identifies it as an "iR5000-6000". I have changed this to the correct driver (iR3570/4570PS) and the printer is added to the list of printers with the correct looking icon.
However, when I attempt to print, there is no "special features" menu so I cannot select my mailbox. If I attempt to print without specifying a mailbox the printer either goes to a paused status, or upon playing with various settings, outputs a few pages of postscript junk!
I tried using the imagePASS drivers, and this gave me the mailbox options, but it would not actually output anything other than postscript garbage.
I hope that I am missing something simple here, because there must a solution to this silly issue.

  • Cannot print via network to Canon imagerunner color 2620

I've installed the drivers/softwre, added the printer.
But when I try to print:
    1) Print job starts
    2) Print job shows completed
    3) Nothing comes out of the printer!

    Please help
Printer model: Canon ImageRunner Color 2620 (in the US), aka iRC2600N (in China)

    Hi William,
Thanks for the reply. Okay, let's assume it is a Canon board. Therefore I recommend you perform the following steps.
    1. Ensure you are using the Canon PS Driver v1.60. This was the first version of a Universal driver to include support for Intel Mac's. You can download it from the Canon Australia web site (http://www.canon.com.au/products/business/multifunctionals/multifunctionaldigital_devices/iRC2620drivers.aspx).
    2. Open the Printer Setup Utility and click on the title menu. Click on Reset Printing System. This will delete the Canon driver from your system. To be sure, open Library > Printers > Canon. The driver resides in a folder called PS. If you see it, delete it and empty the trash. Then restart the Mac.
    3. Once the Mac has restarted you can run the installer for the v1.60 driver. You will have to reboot again once the installation is complete. With the Mac back on, open the Printer Setup Utility. Click Add and then click More Printers. Select 'Canon IP (PS)' and then enter the IP address of the iR C2620 and a queue name of LP. Click Add. The driver queries the printer, selects the appropriate ppd and configures the cassette and finisher setup.
    4. With the printer now residing in the printer list, open TextEdit and write a few lines of text. Click File > Page Setup and ensure that A4 is selected. Then select Print and click Copies & Pages. Select Special Features from the menu. You will see an image of the copier and the Job Accounting tab. Because the driver queries the printer, if Job Accounting is enabled, the driver will reflect this. So you will have to select the Job Accounting tab and enter a valid ID and password. Now make sure this ID has enough prints remaining. If you are using an ID that doesn't have any remaining prints, the job will be deleted once it arrives at the copier. The other things to watch out for is the value for colour and b&w. With the cost of colour printing, some admins set the colour value quite low (or zero) meaning that if your document does have any colour it will be deleted by the copier once the colour print limit is reached.
    5. With the ID and password set ( if needed) print the document. If it prints then open a different application and see if you can print from it. If it doesn't print, then please post back here the last 10 entries from the cups error log. This can be found via the Console application or the System Profiler.

  • 'Jobs Stoppped' - Airport Express and Canon IPB-1120

    Hello all,
I am running a PB 12 inch 10.4.7 and printing to a Canon IPB-1120 directly connected to USB, all working great.
I have now an airport express, which i have set up to extend my current wireless network which is made up of a d-link ADSL modem/router with one ethernet port which is connected to an airport base station which then is the connected via ethernet to a PC. I used to share this printer using bonjour with the PC and mac.
The airport express has found the printer, identified it and i have added it using 'print and fax' system preference. When i try and print to it all i get a 'jobs stopped' in the printer dialogue box. I try to start the jobs again and get the same result.
I have deleted the printer and re-added it numerous times. Something strange though is when i display the 'printer list', where it was connected directly it displays 'canon ibp-1120' under the 'kind' heading, but for the wireless one it says 'canon generic'.
    Can you help me iFelix?
    Thankyou,
    Evan.

I don't have any solutions, but I am having the same problem with a Windows 7 laptop and a Canon iP4200 printer attached to an 802.11g Airport Express. My Macbook prints to the printer quickly and efficiently but when I print from the Windows machine it waits for minutes before finishing the last page. Very frustrating.

  • Help resolving printing problem with v10.6.8 and Canon MP780 PIXMA

    Hello,
My Canon MP780 PIXMA stopped being able to print text in black some months ago and having scoured the internet for advice I've discovered that this issue is not that uncommon. This printer uses 5 ink tanks 3 of which are for single colours and two of which are for different kinds of black ink. The tank responsible for printing black text (fonts) for some reason just won't do its job.
Amongst other people's online posts I found a workaround cheat to print black text (simply change the paper setting to Photo Quality or Double Sided Photo for printing either single or duplex printing).
But this uses up too much ink and is EXTREMELY slow.
I have read of the same issue using a different series of Canon printers - and apparently those Canon laser printers just needed an updated CAPT driver.
Tasks already attempted to no avail:
    - cleaning the ink nozzles via the software utility
    - print test via software utility demonstrates absent gridline pattern
    - taken out print head and cleaned carefully with water then left to dry naturally before replacing
    - removed Microsoft Word font folders from user library location then restarted my machine (in a desperate response to some advice given in this community to someone else experiencing the same problem but with a different printer)
    - opened FontBook and resolved duplicate fonts and restarted my machine (there were about 5 duplicates)
    - tried printing from TextEdit and Preview to see if Apple software was behaving differently to Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat - but still cannot print black text
I've had this printer for about 7 years and although it's a massive machine and doesn't have built-in proper networking, it makes scanning and printing massive documents so easy - well it did before the black text problem began - so I'd love to find a true solution rather than chuck it out and buy a new printer.
I run it from a MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Version 10.6.8 via USB cable.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.
