10.5 freezes during install

I have a G5 iMac (iSight) who's hard drive died (at least that's what it looked like). So I purchased a new Seagate 250gb drive and installed it. I started up from the 10.5 install disk, formatted the drive with Disk Utility, then proceeded to install the software. It gets about half way done then i get the gray screen telling me i need to restart the machine. What is going on? Does this mean the computer has other problems besides the HDD?
thanks

Every time I try to update to 10.5.5, the bar just stops moving. I've updated my itunes and such since then with no problems but I can't update to OS 10.5.5. What's the deal?
Reboot in safe mode by holding down shift key on boot. At login screen click restart and see if system boots normally.
Then do what VK suggests - apply (or reapply) update manually.

  • WHAT CAUSES FOR AN APPLICATION TO FREEZE DURING INSTALL?

What causes for an application to freeze during install?  and how do I fix it

helloWorld pretty much said it all.
When I'm looking for problems like that nothing beats a good trace file. Also don't dismiss the idea of programmer stupidity (of the one that developed the app), I've ran across code where exceptions where caught and nothing done about it, just let thing run merrily along again. The cause is usually farther back in the trace than the point it hangs or appears to start having problems.

  • FIX FOR:computer freezes during install of Leopard on a G4 MDD w/ ATI x800!

I had problems with freezing during installation of Tiger & Leopard on my G4 MDD. It took some trouble shooting, but when I installed Tiger I found out that the freeze was from the video card I had installed, an ATI x800 xt 256mb AGP video card. I do not know why this card freezes the installation process, but I found a way to get the installation to complete without freezing. I took an old ATI PCI video card, installed it in an empty PCI slot, connected monitor to PCI card, and then installed Tiger with no problems. After install I hooked the monitor back up to the AGP ATI card and it worked great. So when my G4 froze with the Leopard installation I did the same thing, switched to an old PCI video card and Leopard installed with no problems whatsoever, then I switched back to AGP card after install. I hope this helps someone.

  • Sparc 5 freezes during install

As the subject says I have a sparc 5 that freezes
during an interactive install of Solaris 8 4/01.
It is inconsistent, and the only way to unhang the machine
is power off (does not respond to stop-a).
Is there a way to tell what is going on?
    Thanks,
    A. J.

    Thanks...
Problem solved... it was a SIMM that wasn't seated properly.
The strange thing is, that I did test the memory using POST and also doing test-memory at the PROM level and those did not indicate any problem (on a hunch I reseated the memory...).

  • Freezing during install ph

Heya guys. I've got an issue with my creative soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS, specifically the install program. The first part makes it to 97%, then Windows picks it up. The installation then literally freezes, and I am forced to control alt delete out. This also occurs when trying to CZapxx the drivers in. OS is Windows 98 SE (Not that it should matter, it was running fine prior to my reformat)

Now I have a product I can no longer use that used to work great before a re-format and I've tried everything recommended in the database. Jeez, talk about frustration...
Ya the mods will try to help as much as they can. Hmm.... have you try what I suggested that is during the installation, if it hangs then ctrl-alt-del and then close the application that's showing not responding? Also, you can try updating your installshield wizard which I found to be helpful too.

  • ITunes 7.0.1.8 freezes during install

I downloaded the new iTunes 7 and went to install the same way i have with the last few updates. I uninstalled old iTunes and QuickTime and turned off my virus scans and firewall. I ran iTunesSetup that i downloaded from the Apple site using Mozilla Firefox. Everytime the installation freezes at the point Status: Registering modules with like 2 bubbles left. I tried restarting my computer and the same thing happened again. Tips to fix this would be appreciated. QuickTime appears to have been installling fine. Oh and only the installation froze i could still run other processes. In fact right now as I am typing this the updater is frozen in the background.

Everytime the installation freezes at the point Status: Registering modules
by any chance, do you have SpyCatcher antispyware software installed on your PC?
if so, try uninstalling SpyCatcher prior to the itunes install. does the itunes install get past the registering modules point then?
if you get the itunes install to go through, you can reinstall SpyCatcher.

  • Freeze during install of update 10.5.1

My macbook will freeze upon the restart of trying to install update 10.5.1
I download the update using system software updater and when it asks for restart... I do it. The machine then starts up and begins the install.
The problem is it will freeze at 0-1% of configuring the install. I've installed all other updates. This is the only one to do this.
I can easily re-install the mac with a fresh leapard however I was hoping for a solution so I don't have to reinstall bootcamp and all other apps for both mac and windows.
btw... my leapard was an update from tiger. I do run bootcamp with winxp.
    thanks for any help.

Have you tried just manually downloading the update to see if that works?

  • Solaris 10 freezes during install

    Hello, all.
I'm trying to install Solaris 10 on my home PC.
    Specs:
    1.3GHz Athlon
    20GB HD
    512MB RAM
    ATI Radeon 9600 PRO
When I do an install - regardless of interactive/interactive text console/interactive text desktop, it freezes.
I see the message "Use of this blah blah blah" and then it just sits there. I let it sit for a while, but I can't see it doing anything.
I know it's not much to go on...
    Help?

I have noticed the same behabiour as it seems several other people.
I managed to install succesfully only on one PC with intel PIII 450Mhz by replacing the original graphic card.
I tried to install in several other intel based PCs without success.
I also have a Dell 1850 and a Dell 2850. When booting from the CD/DVD the installation freezes in the begining with the message
"Running Configuration Assistant" and then nothing happens (at least for >10 hours)
If I start with the disk it hangs with the message "Loading driver ata.bef".
Using the disk procedure and giving the sytem a lot of time about 7-8 hours the installation procedure proceeds but it hangs at 99% ( I waited for 20 hours then I stoped the process)
It is really sad that SUN is not able to produce an easy to install product as FreeBSD or Fedora, CentOS, Suse which by the way all of them install on 1850 and 2850 without any problem.

  • 10.4.7 update freezes during install

I'm trying to update a G4 iMac. It had previously crashed hard during the install, so I had to archive and reinstall the OS from the original disks. I ran the disk verify and repair. Now, it downloads the combo update, but it never gets past "Preparing for Installation." No other programs are running during the install. Is there more that I can and should do?
    Thanks for any help.

Probably a bad download. Dump it and download another. If that doesn't work, then you should run the Apple Hardware Test program to rule out any hardware problems.

  • Adobe Application Manager freezes during install

    Hi all,
I'm trying to install the Adobe Application Manager on my Mac Book Pro with OS X 10.82. After double clicking on the AdobeApplicationManager.app the progress window appears, but after a few seconds it freezes. :-( I have to force quit the installer. Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Klaus from Germany

If you have Creative Suite 5.1 installed then a version of Adobe Application Manager should be present in your Applications/Utilities folder.  Please try uninstalling Creative Suite from the Applications/Utitlies/Adobe Installers folder.  Once it is uninstalled you can safely remove the Adobe Application Manager folder and then try reinstalling again from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774.

  • Indesign 5.5 freezes during install

My install disc prompts me to start .setup and then freezes
on "Initializing Installer". Did it 5 times at the same place.
Ran a Adobe Support Advisor... and it found no problems.
Just got a brand new computer running Windows 7 Pro.
I was able to load up my old Adobe CS4 Web Premium with no problems.
Just purchased InDesign CS 5.5 and assumed it would load easily on Windows latest OS.
Any suggestions would be great.... thanks.
    Stephan

    Great! You are welcome!
I'm glad it worked for you!
But, on the other hand, this is not supposed to happen.
Did you had other software installed before you tried to install InDesign CS5.5?
Maybe antivirus software, or something similar? Or maybe had Firefox opened?
Personally, I disable UAC right after install.
I just don't like it poping out and giving me warnings and advices
    All the best.

  • Keyboard Software Update Freezing During Install

    Hi,
I'm, rather belatedly, trying to install KeyboardSoftwareUpdate 1.2 on my PPC G5 running 10.4.11. The keyboard is wired and the problem, which I've read is curable with this update, is that none of the function keys like for volume or brightnesss, etc. work. Every time I try to install this update, the installation freezes after Select Drive and before letting me move on to choosing Installation Type. At this point, I then have to force quit the application. The drive I've been choosing (and which is also the only option for installation) has plenty of space on it. I've had no other issues with any other installations that I can recall. Suggestions? Thanks

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Try the install again.
I think Spark cured this FN key thing for another person and the same problem...

  • Satellite A505 freezes during install of updates

This started about a month ago.  Each time the laptop restarts to install updates to the system, it freezes.  I have left it for hours and it will still be on the same numbered update.  I know it says not to cut power or turn off, but after it sat for 6 hours (while I napped) on the same number, I did.  Now anytime it goes to updates it stalls for hours.  Just happened again last night - I went to sleep on it installing 1 of 2 updates, it was still trying to install 1 of 2 updates at 6 the next morning.  The system runs super slow now, when I'm trying to work or use the internet.  Anyone have suggestions for correcting this problem?  Thanks

Did you get anywhere with this? You might try only selecting one update at a time to install to determine if there's a problem with a specific update.

  • Iphone 5 freezing during install of IOS 8.1

After installing the IOS 8.0.1 it took two days for my Apps pending updates to process.  I turned my phone complete off twice before the updates finally started and completed.
I  also found not after conversation with a friend that I do not have the same new features.  For example when we were discussing the changes I discovered in Messages the global on the keyboard did not change to the emotion button to allow me to select emotions.  Also according to one of the tips under the new Tips App I do not have the . (period) button next to the space button to allow me to add .com to website address in a text.
I am reading apple stating the ios 8.0.1  is a problem with iphone 6 only.  Will the fix they are planning going to fix all issues for iPhone 5 as well?

I have similar problems with landscape mode, and when the silent button  turned on on iPhone 5 and a call comes in it hangs! also it hangs when texting, and when "Banners" or adds from "Free" apps are not turned off in notifications. the iPad, iPad air, iPhone 5, 4 all freeze up.
When this happens. you need to hold the home button down and the power button down until it reboots.
Then go to notifications and turn off all those horrible games, and apps that want to push adds and garbage that bothers you off.
Then close all of your safari open web pages.
Then close all those apps left open that you are not using.
Then if your not using bluetooth turn it off.
Make sure you have a backup of your entire phone in iTunes! AND then on the iCloud.
then go to the General tab and reset the entire thing, then restore your ape while on iTunes.
It seems to clear things up.
Apple is working 24/7 to fix this, it will be 100% fixed within two weeks.
It's not a pleasant experience, but hang in there when it is fixed as it will be, then your iPhone will be awesome .
I am truly sort for your frustration, it is felt by millions. Apple ALWAYS comes through! give them a week and try the above it should get you through the next week when there should be a fix.
Remember this is the first time in history for Apple that you got two completely new iPhones with complete new hardware, software, a New Mac OS, and a Iwatch and a pay system with new hardware. With that many items on the table things can't be perfect. They will be soon. We will all be saying, "I want the iPhone 7!! with the new holograph display and 1 tb memory and GPS calls not cellular and solar charging skin!
    Kind Regards,
    B
