10.5 server with 10.5 and 10.4 clients

Just when I thought I had everything ironed out my 10.4 client machines stopped logging in while the 10.5 machines login just fine. All of the client stations are setup the same to look for Open Directory accounts on the server. They are also in machine groups and the clients login screen reflects that they are indeed in the computer group because it shows the group message. However when I try using any of the network accounts to sign on it hangs for about 30 seconds then shakes it off. I've double checked everything I can think of and have not found anything. Anyone have any idead?

Interesting enough it was a DNS issue caused by changing the server IP. I had figured it was ok because the 10.5 clients were all signing in but I was wrong. The resolution was to make an Archive of the OD database, change it from OD Master to Standalone server, then change it back to Master and restore from the Archive.

Can you use Multi Factor Authentication server with Central NPS and RD Gateway?

Does anyone have any experience getting the Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on-premise server, working with a Remote Desktop Gateway server, and a centralised NPS server? I can get a solution whereby a user can get the second token (phone call/sms
etc.) but the connection never gets established. It looks like its looping as it repeats the phone call/text for a second time but again no connection. I can’t figure out why.
All the blogs are very vague as to whether you can combine a new MFA NPS connection policy with an existing username/group membership NPS policy on a centralised NPS server (with RAP/CAP policies).
I need to understand whether we can combine both an MFA Radius policy with a Username/Password plus group membership NPS policy together to achieve two factor authentication.
Do you have the Remote Desktop Gateway Server connect to the Central NPS server and then the NPS server use the MFA server as its proxy server? In effect turning the NPS server into a proxy Radius server?
Or do you configure the Remote Desktop Gateway server to use the MFA server as the proxy Radius server, and configure the MFA server to send on Radius requests to the central NPS server?
Or either of these scenarios not supported and you can only use the MFA server as the only Radius server in the auth. process? (bypassing NPS policies?)

If you haven't found an aswer yet, you can check in transaction SE24 CL_ABAP_FILE_UTILITIES method CREATE_UTF8_FILE_WITH_BOM. You can check the code of the method (it's very short) so you can understand how it works. It's also a static method so you can call it directly in your program.
Ex:
CALL METHOD cl_abap_file_utilities=>create_utf8_file_with_bom(your_file_name).

Hi, we recently migrated from Groupwise to Exchange. Our post offices are (and servers) are completely shut down. And on all of the client PCs, the Groupwise client has been removed. Now we're finding users who saved messages to their local drives (or network shares) and want to read them. Any way to do this or are we out of luck?

The NSAPI plug-in with WLS 5.1 should not adversely affect the way the
Commerce Server works. Although this platform is not 'certified', the product
is J2EE compliant and should work without error.

I have Windows 2012R2 server, as a web server. It has only one NIC, and I have given it two IP addresses. 10.0.0.11 at the main Window, and under the advanced tab, I have added 10.0.0.12 as additional ip to the nic. I have even but to
host file a row, that states 10.0.0.11 server.domain.local.
Now when I ping "server.domain.local" from the server itself, it gives me 10.0.0.12 as answer.
With nslookup I can get correct address (10.0.0.11). But when I type server.domain.local to the web browser it tries to connect 10.0.0.12, which is incorrect. It should connect to 10.0.0.11 address. Could you please help me?

Windows does not work well with two IP addresses on the same subnet. Results are inconsistent, as you have discovered. In general, you should never try to put two IP addresses from the same subnet onto a single Windows box. That means either
multiple addresses on a single NIC or on multiple NICs.
Maybe if you tell us what you are trying to accomplish by having two addresses, we could provide better assistance.

Wireless print server with Mac G4 and Dell PC's

I have a belkin wireless router and a linksys WPS54G print server. Hardwired by ethernet cables to the router are two computers 1) Dell 2400 and 2) Apple G4.
I am trying to get the Apple to print to the printserver. the linksys software set the Dell up and the print server and they work fine. I have tried everything i can on the Apple but no luck. Seems to be the driver. The printer is printing gibberish from the mac. The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo R320. I dowmloaded the drivers for Mac OS 10.4.4... from the epson website - I chose each one for the printer on my MAC and tried to print. The result was either no print out or differing gibberish each time. What can I do?

Please search this forum. Your precise issue has been covered several times. You have to use a CUPS driver for network printing - Epson's drivers are Carbon, not CUPS. Start by updating the Gimp-Print drivers that Apple included in OS X to the next newer version, now called Gutenprint 5.0.0:

XServe with Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion Clients

Okay, bare with me, as I'm fairly new to the whole Mac Server world. I have learned a whole lot over the last year and I've been able to completely manage our 60 Snow Leopard Clients on our XServe.
Last year, I came into an existing setup with ~60 clients running Snow Leopard and an XServe running on Snow Leopard. We utilize Server Admin and Workgroup Manager to manage our user accounts and our clients. We have over 300 users and utilize Portable Home Folders with our accounts.
Over the last year, I've learned a whole lot about managing the system that is already setup. I've made quite a few preferences and file structure changes utilizing Server Admin and Workgroup Manager. After getting new hard drives in three machines, I learned how to re-image them and get them set back up with our Workgroup Manager. I learn things pretty quickly and have a pretty high technology aptitude.
So, here is the predictament I'm in now...our county just purchased 31 new Macs to add to our network. These are running Mountain Lion.
I have a few questions, and I'm not exactly sure where this post should have been. I think the major questions/issues I face right now include:
Will I be able to manage the Mountain Lion clients utilizing our existing server and Workgroup Manager?
We need our server to work seemlessly with the 31 Mountain Lion clients and the 60 Snow Leopard Clients.
Once I get one machine setup correctly, I need to create an image of it so that I can then utilize this image on the other 30 machines.
How do I create an image and then deploy it?
Do I complete this step before or after I have setup the first client with Workgroup Manager?
Also, am I missing something? I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything important in regards to getting these new workstations setup on our network.

No, you don't need an new license.
But the Mac App Store doesn't allow you to download software, which you originally bought on DVD. Logic Studio is/was only available on DVDs, while Logic Pro, MainStage and Compressor are available in the Mac App Store as inidivdual applications.

Network logins not working with 10.7 and 10.8 clients

I have Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8) running on a Mac Mini for the past 3 years. The client Macs were all running Snow Leopard and could happily do network logins. I recently upgraded my client Macs to 10.7 and 10.8.Now they cannot login via Network logins. Only via the Other selection. Network logins produces the Error occured dialog box. Once users do a local login, they have access to all server services (file sharing, calendar, messaging, contacts, etc.)
The server is setup as a OD Master with Kerberos. The changeip check is all good. The DNS is working. I have made no changes to the server. Only the clients were upgraded from Snow Leopard.
I have read a lot about similar problems but still haven't solved this problem.

Hi all
I solved this annoying issue
It was an Open Directory issue. If you have upgraded clients to 10.7 or 10.8 from 10.6, the OD Master passwords are incompatible with 10.7 or 10.8.
The fix is simple.
1. Stop AFP file shares
2. Export Users, Groups and Computers from Workgroup Manager then quit the the Workgroup Manager
3. Demote the OD Master to Standalone
4. Promote the Standalone OD to a Master OD,
5. Reimport the Users, Groups and Computers back into Workgroup Manager
6. Reset all passwords and home folders
7. Rebind all clients computers
That's it.
