10.5 update deleted playlists...still AWOL in 10.5.1

My 80+ playlists were all lost in the 10.5 update.  Downloaded 10.5.1 last night and still nothing (although Amazon purchases now play).  I'm not a PC expert by any stretch of the imagination and am really struggling trying to find a solution here without having to re-create all of my playlists.  Does anyone have a possible solution?  I've browsed the communities section here for almost a month and no luck yet.

I should add that I'm a Windows XP user and we're talking Classic iPod and iPod Nano 5th Generation here.

  • After todays update smart playlists still doesn't sync......

After I installed todays update Itunes doesn't snyc the smart playlists correctlyfrom Iphone 3Gs while on the other hand syncing with my Ipüod nano works without problems.
Please Apple fix that bug while it's very frustrating

I had the same issue and spent god knows how long on the phone with apple.  They had me reinstall iTunes and then format my iPhone yet I was still having issues.  One apple employee told me that they are having issues with their server being overwhelmed and did not know when it will allow me to sync.  I did not want to use the iCloud but when I turned the feature on (and turned off all the auto sync) it allowed me to sync through my computer.  I am still crossing my fingers everytime I sync though.
    Good Luck

  • ITunes 11.1.3.8 update" Deleted playlists

I'm running Windows 8 (64 bit) and just updated to iTunes 11.1.3.8.
While the songs are accessible, ALL of my playlists are gone.  Ten years of playlists, gone--including an 8-hour list for Christmas Day.
I've tried replacing the "iTunes Library" file with an older version--this didn't appear to change anything.
All of the iTunes materials are on an auxiliary hard drive. iTunes worked fine--on two laptops--until the update.  Now, the playlists are gone on both laptops, so the update affected the files on the auxiliary drive they run from.  Because I synched my iPod this morning to get newly purchased songs, all of the playlists are now gone from the iPod, too.  (My iPod is a 6th generation Nano--model MC699LL).
    How do I fix this?

These are the directions I followed--right up to step 7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
Because there's no playlist to import.

  • Iphone software update deleted my playlists on the phone and itunes

When i installed the latest update to the iphone 3gs all of my playlists were wiped out. is there way to recover them? when i synched my phone with itunes it deleted the playlists there as well. i do have an ipod with the playlists still in tact.

I had a very similar issue. Bought the 3G and tried to sync it with my Outlook (2002) and it deleted about 3 dozen calendar events. It seemed to be specifically recurring events, and I think they all had reminders. Not sure though - recreated them all, so let's see what happens.

  • Live Smart Playlists still not updating?

One of the things I had my fingers crossed for more than anything else with the update to iOS5 was that Apple would have finally remembered that the iPod (and by extension the iPhone) started life as a music player and that they would have fixed the bug with smart playlists not updating on the device, so meaning you have to rely on syncing with iTunes on the computer to get it to update. But unfortunately my smart playlists still don't seem to be working. Has anybody found a work around to this?

Every time they update their iOS or iTunes, I complain about it, and each time I (falsely) believe that they will do something about it!
Apparently not with the latest updates (iTunes 10.6 and iOS5.1).
One work-around is to uncheck Live Updating for the smart playlists you want to sync, and recheck it when you no longer want to sync it, or to update it between syncs.
    Hope this helps

  • Ipod wont update due to deleted playlist

i have accidently deleted a playlist on my ipod, and when i went to update my ipod all of the songs were taken off it. now when i try to update my ipod the following message appears:
Songs on the ipod "Tom" cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist.
i have tried looking for the playlist how ever i cannot find it.please help i have been trying to fix this for ages!!!

    hiya!
okay, while the ipod is plugged in and showing up in the sourcelist, go "edit > preferences" and click on the "ipod" tab.
you currently have "Automatically update selected playlists only" selected in there. compare the playlists that show up in the window below that option with the playlists that currently exist in your sourcelist. deselect any that no longer exist. click OK.
for some more info on using that updating/syncing option (and the others), see:

  • Do Auto-Updating Smart Playlists really work?

I followed the old thread about auto-updating smart playlists not updating automatically on the iPod. Apparently the 2006-1-10 update fixes it, but some smart playlists still aren't updating for me. The simple rating-based playlists work (they update), but more complex smart playlists such as this don't work:
    Match All Following Rules:
    Podcast is true
    Playcount is 0
    Time is less than 11:00
    Kind contains audio
According to this support document: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301910 smart playlists should update based on any criteria, but I'm not seeing that. Am I doing something wrong? What types of smart playlists have people gotten to work?
    Thanks.

I've posted a better version of this thread in the "Using the iPod with color display" forum.

  • Can I restore a deleted playlist, without using the time machine?

I have deleted my playlist, and cannot restore it. My time machine is not on, the playlist has been deleted from my iPhone, and importing the iTunes music library does't work.

Unless there is an "undo" feature and the playlist deletion is still in it, probably no.  The playlist is the part of the library file which iTunes continuously updates as you do things to iTunes.  Was this something you did just now?  iTunes creates a second library file that can be used to rebuild a library.  I can't remember if it gets re-written when iTunes starts or if it is when it shuts down.  If you can make a copy of the iTunes Library.xml file in your iTunes folder it may be possible to work from that, but it will not be a simple process.

  • My deleted contacts still show up when I want to send a text message

My deleted contacts still show up when I want to send a text message. But when I go to my address book there not there only when I want to send a text MSG there name comes up and if I select them it only show there number not name in the message.  How an I get rid of that

This is a big problem!!!!!! Deleting is deleting!
I'm surprised more people aren't annoyed by this bizarre Apple tech problem.
I love my Apple iPhone, but...
This problem is enough for me not to buy another iPhone :(
This should be simple to solve, Apple...right???????????????????
Dear Apple, PLEASE FIX this BUG in NEXT UPDATE asap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cannot delete playlists on iPod

Howdy. I have a list of 10 or so playlists within iTunes. When I sync with my iPod, it copies the 10 playlists that I have, PLUS about 8 or 9 other OLD playlists that I no longer have in iTunes. So, after a sync, I have 10 playlists on iTunes and 18 playlists on the iPod.
I have done a restore on the iPod, and on my first sync, once again, the old (previously deleted) playlists returned to the iPod.
The only way I have ever been able to remove these playlists from the iPod is to manually manage the iPod and then remove them. But, as soon as I set it to automatically sync, they return.
Since the iPod has been restored, and it still didn't fix it, I'm guessing there is a configuration file somewhere on my Mac that I don't know about which is being repeatedly written to the iPod.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I would recommend recreating your iTunes Library. Be sure to back up the playlists that you DO want to keep, however.

  • Cannot delete playlist from Walkman

Hi - Just got a Z1 compact and went to put my micro sd card from my old phone into the sony. Everything is fine except i cannot delete playlists from the My Playlists section of Walkman. The playlists have no content in them, i can't add content to them, and i can't delete them. How do i get rid of them???? Suspect they have to be on the SD somewhere but cannot find them by searching the name or the file type .m3u. Any idea how i find and delete these ghost playlists?? thanks in advance!

Hi, I'd just like you to know that havin already tried EZ File Manager and manual deletion via USB I still couldn't delete certain non-working tracks from the Walkman app, and although I thought your advice seemed potentially dangerous, I tried it as you're a moderator so I trusted it was some 'combination' that was safe. Anyway, long story short I wiped all the media on my phone and SD, of which there was plenty, amassed over a lot of time (the music in particular). If I can't retrieve backups of the music, I'll be very angry with you. (The photos and videos were mostly backed up recently). I don't know if this was some weird, cruel joke for frustrated clueless phone users (not thinking straight late at night, in my case) but if it was, you've caused me to delete everything, and I hope you're happy with yourself. -Feargal

  • IPod Classic will not update certain playlists

I have a 120GB iPod Classic running software 2.0.1, and I cannot get it to update some playlists. Some will have a different album artwork than in iTunes, and the couple that I really care about are in reverse order.
I tried creating new playlists of the same albums with slightly different names, but they still show up in reverse order on the iPod, which doesn't work so well for a story.
Last nigth I got so frustrated that I restored my iPod to try to get it to work, but still the same playlists are showing up in reverse order.
I have tried restarting my iPod, reseting it, restoring it. I have even run diskwarrior on my iPod, and have tried trashing the com.apple.iPod.plist, to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas, or am I SOL?

    Update!
This is what I did to fix both the skipping songs problem and the iPod verifying forever & not able to restore problem (because of iTunes 9):
    a) I used Disk Utility to reformat my iPod while in Disk Mode using the instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
    and here:
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml#backup
    b) Do not unplug your iPod after reformatting (mine showed up as a firewire disk) - simply launch iTunes ( I went back to 8.2) and follow the Restore instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339
iPod is recognized, syncs and doesn't skip songs anymore after that miserable experience with iTunes 9!!!

  • IPHONE 4 – UPDATE ISSUE – IOS 7 UPDATE DELETED ALL THE CONTACTS : PLEASE HELP! PLEASE HELP!

    Hello Everyone,
Following are the seemingly essential details in regards to this discussion :
    iPhone Model = 4
    Purchase Date = 05.Jan.2011
Initial Activation Remark = I used my gmail email account to add contacts initially. But phone always failed to sync (back) with gmail after the initial setup. As in if I make any changes in the iPhone’s Contact List, it won’t automatically be saved to my gmail account. But I thought to keep a full phone back up on my MacBook Pro will be safer option as well.
    Latest Full Phone Backup Date = 19.Sep.2013 [via iTunes-11 on MacBook Pro-OS X 10.8.2]
    iOS 7 Update Date = 20.Sep.2013
    >>>[It went "On" Automatically when I touched to read the details, and could not stop once it got initiated - Actually I wanted to wait until some reviews were out. ****.]
Problem = iOS 7 update deleted all the Contacts that were originally saved on the iPhone.
Tried & Failed = I tried to restore from the available 19.Sep.2013 backup from my MacBook Pro. It restored everything but still NO CONTACTS. If I add email [orginal gmail] account's contacts then it does not show the contacts that I saved on the phone locally; around 1100.
I am in the great trouble because my 1100+ contact list just zeroed by this new update.
[Also, my iCloud all got screwed up. I had earlier used my wife's credit card to register for iTunes, and now my account got her name all over it. There is no option to change the name on icloud.com. I will start a new discussion for this problem.] Though I am trying not to lash out on Apple (for now), but I think that it is seriously getting into my nerves.
Could anyone please help me to get my contacts back? I will be eternally grateful.
I still got the Full iPhone Backup on my MacBook Pro that I did just before the update.
    Please help. Thank you!

    Yes, I did.
It restored everything [incl. photos] but phone contacts.
And, after restoration the iOS was still 7.
I tried twice but still no phone contacts.
Please help me to get my phone contacts back!

  • Please help! Ipod not dynamically updating smart playlists!

I have quite a complex system of smart playlists on my 4G color ipod but I can't get any of them to update dynamically away from the computer. I have a total of 6 and here are their preferences:
    SPL 1:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 4-5 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is less than 5
limit to 100 by most recently added
    SPL 2:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 0-3 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is less than 4
limit to 55 songs by most recently added
    SPL 3:
    match ALL
    1) My rating is in the range 3-5 stars
    2) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    3) Last skipped is not in the last 1 day
    4) Playcount is greater than 5
limit to 30 songs by random
    SPL 4:
    match ALL
    1) Last played is not in the last 1 day
    2, 3, 4) Playlist is not SPL 1, SPL 2, or SPL 3
limit to 15 songs by random
    Unwanted:
    match ANY
    1) Time is greater than 15 minutes
    2) Genre is Comedy
The active playlist that I use to listen to:
    match ANY
    1-4) Playlist is SPL 1, SPL 2, SPL 3, or SPL 4
    5) Playlist is not Unwanted
So here's the problem. When I sync with my computer, the playlists work great, everything updates as expected and I get a pretty diverse playlist every time I sync which I want. The problem is that while I'm listening to my music on the ipod away from the computer, my playlists don't dynamically update. After I listen to a song, the song's supposed to remove itself from the playlist which doesn't happen, as well as when I skip songs. Even when I rate songs that aren't rated they don't appear in any playlist. This is really frustrating and I can't find a solution anywhere and yes, I do have Live Updating selected. I also have "Match only checked items" selected on all playlists as well. If anyone has any ideas for how to fix this, I would love to know. Thanks!

I was searching this forum and found someone who says that 4th gen ipods have problems live updating smart playlists if the criteria "last skipped" is on the playlist. I took this off of all of my playlists but they still don't work. Then I tried making a playlist that is just "rating is equal to 5 stars" and it WORKS!!! But that doesn't help me out much for my other playlists so maybe it's some other criteria that's causing the problem. Any ideas?
