10.5 Upgrade is a disaster, can anyone help?

Upgraded iTunes to 10.5.  Now I cannot sync my iPhones, iPads or connect to the iTunes Store on my Windows 7 PC. I have tried all of the solutions Apple recommends, but to no avail.   I have seen mutilple posts on a variety of similar topics, but no solutions.  Would appreciate any help.

I have had issue with the 10.5 aswell, seeing that there seems to be a problem you would think apple would try to correct it, since the update of itunes  the option for backing up to disc or hard drive has dissapeard so i can no longer back up my itunes library, im very annoyed as now i could loose everything if anything goes wrong,  the option for back up has  dissapeard from my file menu i put a question, on here about it but no replies so i guess no one else is having that issue, i cant even contact itunes for help says you have to pay, im disgusted at the moment, no help from anywhere so i know how you feel, i have also tried to unistall itunes and then reinstall but everything is still the same so i dont understand it,
a very baffled itunes user

    check and make sure that an alert style has been choosen for certain alerts, and make sure you check your sounds in settings

    then it must be hardware, to make sure this is the case go to your local apple store and then let them see it at the bar there, they will say how much it will cost to fix or fix it if they can.

    I have upgraded a G4/450 Dual Gig Ethernet to run a 23 Cinema Display using a retail version of OS Tiger 10.4.11 and Classic 9.2.2. Previously, on the original machine I was running Panther 10.4.9 and Classic 9.2.2. The hardware upgrading uses a Sonnet Encore Dual 1.8GHz (7447 chip), and a flashed Nvidia GF6200 and a Pioneer DVR-112D. The OS Tiger upgrade procedure was to install the retail CD, run an install and archive which replaced Panther with Tiger, while retaining the original OS 9.2.2 installation intact on the same drive as the Mac OS.
    Tiger has been upgraded to 10.4.11 and is working perfectly. I am able to run my important MYOB accounts in Classic OK which is my main reason for retaining OS9. However, I am having problems with OS9 mode about which I seek help. I would like to clean out obsolete software which I cannot do from Classic mode as many apps and files are unseen by the Classic system.
    If I use the Install disk OS 9.2.2 provided with the G4, again the OS9 proceeds loading but freezes after the fourth init (Quicktime) appears. Perhaps the fifth init is the application causing the problem but I cannot identify it on the Install disk when I re-open it in Classic to read the install disk contents.
    So is it possible to run OS 9.2.2 via Tiger 10.4.11 or has the upgraded hardware (7447 chipset), created a conflict which prevents the OS 9.2 Install Disk operating properly?

    The G4 (GE) model originally came with a model-specific version of OS 9.0.4. It can also use a retail OS 9.1 or retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD.
    All OS 9.2.2 Install CDs are model-specific; there is no retail (universal install) version of OS 9.2.2. The disk you have for OS 9.2.2 is unlikely to be able to install on that model. The usual way to get OS 9.2.2 on such a machine is to get OS 9.2.1 onto it, then use the OS 9.2.2 download updater to bring that up to OS 9.2.2.

    Many folk who've installed a processor upgrade have discovered that in order to re-install OS 9 using an OS 9 Install CD requires that the original processor be reinstalled temporarily. Once OS 9 has been installed the processor upgrade can be installed again. Whether this is a contributing issue in your case is hard to tell at this point, but it might be worth trying it.
    If you need OS 9.2.2 only for use as Classic, and do not need to be able to boot the machine to it, then you can copy a working OS 9.2.2 System Folder from another machine. This would need to be a full-install System Folder, not one from a machine which is not OS 9 bootable - those Classic installs are not complete.
    This copying can be done using a simple Finder drag-and-drop copy process. Unlike OSX which needs cloning in order to successfully replicate it, OS 9 can be direct-copied and remain viable. If you do this, you might also want to copy the OS 9-specific Documents folder and Utilities folder from the source machine.

    Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks/Yosemite.
    To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher

    Hi Eric, it is Safari but I thunk I've solved it by dragging the autofill into the safari toolbar and clicking on it when I want to use the fearture. Nothing else worked. this OS is a crock as far as I am concerned.

    Recreated the SMTP using the same settings
    Able to send emails now

    Have you been trying to download from the app store? Did you get a message?
    As a suggestion, you might go to an Apple store (genius bar appointment) for help. As far as I know, there should be no charge.

  • I upgraded itunes today and now some of my music from cd's is in grey and I cannot open it on. I changed sync to AAC and went in and selected genres, artists, albums that I wanted to download.  I want to listen to my music.  Can anyone help me?? Please! .

    I downloaded latest version of iTunes to my computer today and now some of my music - a lot - is showing up in grey after syncing to my iPhone 5 and I cannot open it.  All music is from cd's purchased and before download was accessible.  I went to SYNC and changed to AAC and reselected genres, artists, albums and synced again without success.  Can anyone help? Please.  I am so frustrated and have wasted all day on this.  I want my music back!!!

    When you upgraded, itunes should have put a copy of the itunes library database in a folder named *Previous iTunes Libraries* . If you upgraded itunes today it will show as
    iTunes Library 2010-02-28.itl

    Since I am not sure of your setup, look for the "Previous" folder on both your C: and F: drives.

    I have not found this to be a solution in my case. I have some Apple OS users, Fedora/Ubuntu users and Windows 7 users who are using the SonicWall client. They can connect to either location in the US fine. Once connected, they receive a DNS search domain of pppFrameEncoded =0; instead of our AD domains which are passed fine in Windows and additionally the correct DNS servers (IP addresses) are listed in preference above the local router IP of the user.
    I found that the correct DNS and routes were listed in the SonicWall client and while could ping the IP of the resource, I could not resolve its hostname with the Network Utility. After manually adding the Search Domains (we have two) in preference and removing the previous above, I was then able to resolve lookups to the FQDN and IP but not the hostname. This really ***** for our Apple users who are mainly execs and use samba connections to shared resources. Strangely enough this also seems to impact the Apple iPad and iPhone 4 I have on iOS 5.1 as well. Any thoughts anyone? Can connect with no error, ping IP, can resolve easily FQDN and can access resources by IP or FQDN but not by hostname.
    172.xxx.xxx.xxx works fine
    smb://hostname.sub.domain.com works fine
    smb://hostname does not but resolves
    Anyone else run into this? It doesn't affect any Windows users at all.

    Try holding down CTRL as you launch iTunes to see if it will repair the drivers.

    I had this problem last night as well.  Only my daughter upgraded to iOS7 and she had an old phone of mine.  When she upgraded, the phone asked for my apple ID and then continued as normal.  However, after the upgrade, any text message that I recieved, she also recieved.  I am pretty sure my wife thought I was hammered when she started texting me and my daughter began answering her not having any clue what she was texting about.  Anyway, this only occurred with texts from other family members, not from texts I received from friends who are obviously not on our account (we have Verizon BTW).  To resolve this issue, and it isn't a short resolution.... there are two options...   One, simply erase everyting on the phone.... I don't like iTunes 11, so we were unable to back up her phone.  I made her go through her 600 photos, delete the ones she didn't want and email the ones she wanted to herself, and then we wiped the phone clean and rebooted it... go into Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings.  The second option, if you have iTunes 11 is to back up the phones one at a time,  and then go into Settings, General, Reset, Erase All Content and Settings.  Either of these options wipes the phone clean of all information, text contacts pictures etc and then you have to re-enter all of your individual information.  When you do that, make sure that no one is on the same iTunes account.  Theoretically, after you do this, you plug back into your computer and SYNC your phone from the last back-up.  This resolved the problem for us.  I don't know if there is an easier solution, be we tried logging in and out of our iTunes Accounts, turning the power on and off, and nothing changed.  So, we had to go the more difficult route to avoid mass confusion with family texting.

    There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage.  This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
    The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port.  There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

    When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
