10.5 & Verizon / Sprint EVDO Card Compatibility

For those of you using Verizon or Sprint EVDO mobile broadband cards, there is late breaking information / reports on compatibility on using your EVDO Cards with Leopard at:
http://www.evdoforums.com/thread6924.html
and look for additional updates posted to:
http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2147/63/

If this is correct, then when I get my Merlin S620, all I need to do is pop it into my 17" Powerbook and I'm good to go??!?!?! If so, then WOOOOOOOOOOTTT! However, I am not getting an unlocked card...will I still need to go through a PC to unlock it? What are the steps?

  • I need my macbook to "rediscover" my Verizon EVDO card as a new device

After installing and uninstalling Verizon Access Manager, the EVDO card is no longer in my network preferences. But when I insert the card, it will not discover it as a new device.

The way I use my 3g dongle is to create a new network location specific to that device.
Insert your EVDO device, then goto your network preferences, click the location dropdown and choose edit location.
In the edit location window click the + sign and create a new network location name it EVDO if you like, then click done and finally apply.
Now the mac should display all your network ports in the left collumn. Delete all of them except your EVDO device.
    then click apply.
Then you can use the location menu item in the apple menu to switch network locations.

  • Does VZAccess Manager (Verizon's EVDO) work with a MacBook?

I just bought a MacBook (which has no PC card slot), and would like to
use my EVDO service from Verizon Wireless. EVDO is a service from Verizon
Wirless, which uses the cell phone network to access the Internet at approximately 10 times the speed of a dial-up connection. I loaded a Mac
version of the software, but I don't think it recognized my internal Airport card.
When I bought the EVDO card from Verizion Wireless, the salesperson said
it will run on a Mac, but they have to record the serial number from the
    Airport card (I think).
Has anyone used this on a Mac?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Verizon DO have a EVDO ExpressCard solution.
At this time they are the only cellular provider offering an ExpressCard solution that works with Mac OS X.
Sprint have a card coming, but it's not yet available (or at least wasn't available last time I checked).
They're basically the same card, manufactured by Sierra Wireless, IIRC, so there's no reason why it wouldn't work with either provider. However, Verizon are far more Mac-aware than Sprint are (which isn't actually saying a lot).
At least with the PCCard solution, Sprint requires the use of a Windows PC to activate the card. Once activated it works fine in a Mac even though their staff will tell you that it can't be used in any machine other than the one that activated it (I even had to show their tech support person the page on their own support site that talked about Mac OS X compatibility).
I've used PCCard solutions from all the major cellular networks. If it wasn't for Sprint's brain-dead activation process they'd have the best system - their card utilizes the built-in Internet Connect to manage its connection, unlike all the others that use some special third-party application.
Anyway, feel free to get the Verizon card. It works just fine and doesn't have the Windows requirement.

  • Can i use sprint SIM card for activation of my iphone

I have purchaged one apple iphone 5 s unlocked phone in ebay.
to activate that phone i have one sprint sim card...
after activation of my iphone with sprint carrier can change to H20 wireless sim card
is it possible to change my carriers
because i have taken here in USA after one year i have to use it in my native country INDIA thats why i have taken unlocked.
    Thanks and Regards

What I mean by locked , is that Verizon locked my I phones serial number , so they stuck it on a "blacklist" I was wondering if it would be possible if I used a different SIM card if the phone would still be workable or is it junk

  • Anyone have any news on Sprint EVDO for MBP

Anyone have any new information? Still waiting for Sprint EVDO for these express slots.

I am not sure where you got your information on the
use of the phone as a modem. If you use the USB 2
synch cable with a treo 700p, or the optional USB
cable for other phones to use phone as a modem mode,
you should get as good, or better throughput. Robert
Morgan at www.barefeats.com did the comparison of an
EVDO card vs. phone as a modem with the use of a
cable. While not elegant, it does work. With the Treo
I use USBmodem and it allows me to receive phone
    calls while cruising the internet.
Sure, you can receive a call while surfing, but once you answer the call, you can't be surfing at same time. One or the other.
Many roadwarriors who have to be online and talking to their clients/employers at same time, came to us because they couldn't talk and surf at same time.
After switching to dedicated EVDO data devices, these same users are what reported back to me, that in the same places where they could never see more than 600-700-900kbps, they were now getting 1000-1200+kbps downloads, making their life that much easier. Even faster downloads now that Rev-A data devices are available.
I attribute the speed gain to better signal capture, and better data-processing ability of a laptop.
here are a couple of links to enlighten:
    http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?domains=1
    (shows fastest cellphone test results)
    http://www.dslreports.com/archive/spcsdns.net
    (shows fastest EVDO speeds)
look for 'spcsdns.net', those are sprint test results. compare the two groups, and you tell me which got better results... phone or dedicated data device?
i'll close by repeating what i said earlier. for those who need only infrequent data access, tethering is the way to go. but for the roadwarrior who needs fastest downloads and the ability to talk on phone at same time. get a phone and an EVDO data device like one of these:
    http://www.evdoinfo.com/component/option,com_wrapper/Itemid,117/
PowerBook G4 - find me on ichat as EVDOalex   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   I work for 3Gstore.com/EVDOinfo.com & benefit from purchases at sites I link to.

    Hey Mark
You didn't happen to change the IOMMU setting in the UEFI did you?  I have just got a M5A97 EVO and been having problems.
This UEFI interface finds the usb devices fine but the kernel will not.  I found that if I flash the bios it reset things and appears to
just compare the flash if it is the same.  Afterwards the usb works. However I still trying to narrow it down myself.  I've tested with
0402 0810 & 0813 just released. All do the same thing with regards to usb 2.0.
    Jonathan
    EDIT:
After testing it appears to be connected to the linux nvidia blob & IOMMU settings conflicting.

  • How to pay bill using Verizon electronic gift card?

I have a Verizon Electronic gift card that I got from the recycling program.  I was told I could use this cash to pay my bill...I can't see anywhere on the website to pay my bill using this electronic gift card.  How do I use this card to pay my bill???

The website is a huge headache! I just used my gift card to pay my monthly bill by calling the Verizon customer service hotline (1-800-922-0204). It was super simple. Just hit #2 for pay bill then the automated line with give you the steps to pay your card. Have your gift card number and pin ready, which can be found in the rebate email.

  • Verizon VRUC-A (Verizon Re-Use Card-Amount)

A short time ago in the District of Columbia near, near to me a store was visited, ready associates eager to accept any form of payment from needy customers, one of which, an Eco-conscience consumer requiring a VRUC-50 ( Verizon -
    Re-use card $50 amount) re-activated.
Many attempts were executed by the readies (CSR's) & Jet-I (MOD's) alike, inevitably it became apparent more training was needed in the ways of the source.
The question now being asked in this saga, is the VRUC-50 useless? Should efforts to get card service from Walmart cease? Maybe Allie with another CPSP (Cellular Phone Service Provider) after all they may provide the same services for less!
Additionally it is concluded that the statement posted on the front of the cards, refill, re-use or whatever indicating unlimited talk, text & web simply is not true, only basic models does this apply, such as the lower grade flip phones.
Despite the fact that the reverse side of the card outlines (in fine print) the terms & conditions are understood by the purchaser, the front is misleading & so the Samsung Galaxy story continues....

Yeah, you should still be able to use that old sim, you just need to have Verizon reassign your number to that sim card... or you can do so online yourself at verizonwireless.com/activatenow. You will just need your sim number and the imei from the droid ultra.

  • If I buy a Verizon/Sprint Phone from Apple at full price can I put an ATT SIM in it and run on ATT network?

If I buy a Verizon/Sprint Phone from Apple Unlocked at full price, can I put an ATT SIM and Run on the ATT network?

    Verizon: Yes.
    Sprint: No.
Sprint iPhones can not be used on any U.S. carrier other than Sprint. They can only be unlocked by Sprint for use on non-US carriers, and then only for current Sprint customers in good standing.

If yes, please let me know the link from where I can place an order for a Verizon GSM sim card.
Or let me know If I need to change any settings to make the phone supportable for a Verizon GSM sim card ?

The OP has an unlocked GSM model of the Samsung Galaxy S2. Verizon Wireless never offered that model of phone on their network. Besides the radio frequencies are incompatible.

If you have iOS 7 and have turned on Find My Phone in Settings > iCloud, you will have to remember the Apple ID to unlock the iPhone...the Activation Lock is an anti-theft protection that you cannot bypass.
The only hope you have is to take it and proof that you are the owner to an  Apple store genius bar and see if there is anything they can do.  In general the answer is no, but give it a try.
