10.6.2 another mouse qustion

ladies and gentlemen,
just switched to mac after 12 years of PC…
I know, I know…
Having said that, right out of the box my new Mac Pro i.e. quad, 2.93Ghz, 16Gb etc was like a ferrari with a steering from ford torus - no offense please ford aficionados another words the pointing device (mighty mouse) was very erratic - jumping, sticking etc…
i did some reading, tried a different mouse, called the apple… reinstall the OS... to no avail.
the best case scenario was to replace the pointing device with a third party that comes with the drivers that would replace the default.
so i did.
i got intuos4 - i meant to anyway as I'm a heavy photoshop user.
...and to the conclusion:
the intuos works better then the mighty mouse, BUT the pen is still slightly sticky!…
I called the wacom support and did the whole troubleshooting thing -
nothing, still as you e.g. drag the curser across the screen in a continuous motion it will get stuck for a split of a second and then catches on…
i of course plan to test the tablet on another mac…
however, my question is -
do i have a lemon?
can my OS be a 'bad' copy?
anybody out there experienced anything like this before?
i really do not want to go back to PC…
Thank you for your time and thoughts in advance!
Anton

Hard to say. My wired mighty mouse never displayed your delay, getting stuck, issues. Don't have any other advice, except to muck with the System Preferences->Mouse settings until you get something that works. Once you sort out that issue, see:

  • Another mouse/horizontal scrolling question

not to threadjack another posts thread, but i have a Kensington Expert Mouse (black four button scroll around th e trackball) i was wondering if theres a way to activate horizontal scrolling with that mouse?
    thanks!

    Two ways:
    1) Hold down Shift while turning the scroll-ring.
    2) You can set one of the buttons to switch the scrolling direction in the "Buttons" tab of "MouseWorks" system preference. In the "Scrolling" tab you can have it show the scrolling direction in the menu bar.
Make sure you have MouseWorks 3.0

  • Yet Another oci qustions.

    Hello everybody,
I am making appplication using delphi & oracle9i,
All i care about is about the select statment.
Now i am using OCIDefineByPos to get the values from the table, the value is pointer, i only made to get strings colums successfuly, the problem comes when i am trying to get Ints and Floats, i noticed that you allways get it as number type, so you will have to look on the presion to know what it is.. ok now that i know, how do i suppose to covert that to int for example, itryd use typecast like Y:=Integer(Buffer), or i even saw function called OciNumberToInt the problem with the function that i allways get that anyoing OCI-22060 ( I dont know even i exported the function well )
What i want is to have some piece of code that retrive num/strings in c / delphi what ever....
now my other question is, is it possible to get Muilti Rows ? I mean i dont want to loop feth each row, somthing like to get all the table into array, if so please try supplay the function names or some pice of code aswell.
and by the way how can i retrive the Rows count of the table ?

The following code snippet gives you how to get INT and FLT. Use SQLT_FLT for float.
    OCIBindByPos(DBctx->stmthp,
    &bndHdl[++BindHdlCount],DBctx->errhp,BindHdlCount+1,
    (dvoid *)&Integer_variable_name,
    (sb4)sizeof(Integer_variable_name), SQLT_INT,
    (dvoid *) 0, (ub2 *) 0, (ub2 *) 0, (ub4)0,(ub4 *)0,OCI_DEFAULT)
To get the bulk Data use the following.MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS is the integer value
    you want fetch in BULK
    (void) OCIAttrSet((dvoid *)DBctx->stmthp, (ub4) OCI_HTYPE_STMT,
    (dvoid *)&MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS,(ub4)sizeof(MAX_PREFETCH_ROWS),
    (ub4) OCI_ATTR_PREFETCH_ROWS, DBctx->errhp);
To get the rowcount after executing statement use the following
    (void) OCIAttrGet((dvoid *)DBctx->stmthp, (ub4) OCI_HTYPE_STMT,
    (dvoid *)&p_sl_total_record_count, (ub4*)NULL,
    OCI_ATTR_ROW_COUNT, DBctx->errhp);

  • When turning on another computer next to my iMac - the mouse gets jumpy. Any one knows if I can do something about it?

The iMac is brand new and it happens with both the Magic Mouse and another mouse (Logitec) I'm using regulary. This happens when either my desktop pc is turned on (located about 4 feet from the iMac), or my laptop pc when located on the same table as the iMac. Once they are turned off the problem goes away.
    Help would be highley appriciated...
    Thanks.

Do you have an Install Disc?
    If so...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there.

  • Mighty mouse alternative for OSX and XP

Just ordered a Mac Pro - upgrading from G5 Powermac. I got the mighty mouse with the G5 and of course the MP comes with the same. I have gotten used to the mighty mouse to a point but part of the reason for getting the MP is for Windows and gaming. For this I think another mouse with 'real' buttons might be better. What are your recommendations for a quality wired multi-purpose mouse (XP and OSX) and are there any mouses (mice/moose/meece) that have a scroll wheel similar to the might mouse one (very useful in PS etc). I'm not keen on trackball types btw.
    Thanks

The Logitech MX510. Love it w/ Mac and Windows.
I'm a QA engineer w/ Avid and purchased this mouse for multi-button assignment mouse testing on mac and pc. I have one at home now too, it's the cat's meow. (sorry bad joke).
I just couldn't get use to the mighty mouse. Don't dig the "Touch-sensitive top shell".

  • How can I scroll one full page at a time using the mouse wheel?

I've had this problem for 3 years now. When I nudge my scroll wheel (IntelliMouse Optical) one notch forward or back, Safari moves 1/4 of a page up or down. How can I get one nudge of the scroll wheel to move one full page up or down? Firefox has an add-on, SmoothWheel, that can be set to a full page. Are there any options for doing this in Safari, without having to go to the keyboard? I tried Smart Wheel, no setting for that.
    Any ideas? thanks
p.s. Please don't tell me to get another mouse, I've tried dozens of them and the old IntelliMouse Optical is the best one for me. (I'm also stuck on an ancient Apple M2980 keyboard. I love those old keyboards.)
Mac Pro 2X-Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz  MA970LL/A
      OS X 10.8.3
      Memory: 10 GB
      ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
    Safari 6.03

I can't use the keyboard to scroll. I need to keep my hand on the mouse, otherwise I'd never get anything done. Since I have no problem getting Firefox to scroll one page at a time, and I'm constantly jumping between 3 browsers, it would be nice to be able to scroll a full page at a time in Safari, just like I can in Firefox. Thanks.

  • Mouse & Keyboard Stop Responding....Please, Help!!!

    Hi Guys,
For some time now I'm expriencing problems with my Logitech Mouse M-U0007 freezing up and sometimes my Apple keyboard will as well.  I have to unplug them at least twice to get them moving again & it happens several times per hour.  I'm running 10.6.8 on a MAC Pro Dual Core Intel Xeon.  I have no idea what causes it.  It happens while running various programs (Logic, Word, etc.) & definitely while browsing the Internet (I use Chrome although it happens with Safari & FIrefox as well.)  I've updated the drivers for the mouse.  I often have to restart the computer to get movement again.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?  Is there something I can do?
    Thank you so much!!!!

    Hi again,
I still suspect a faulty USB port.
Your response is still a bit confusing, so just to be sure:
    - Did you also try a USB port on the backside of your Mac?
(if your keyboard is usually connected to the frontside, and you normally plug the mouse into the keyboard, it doesn't help to try testing it by plugging it directly in the front port, if this port is faulty, it's still the same port. If this is your situation, definitely try a port on the back)
    - When you connected the other (older) mouse and keyboard, they were initially not recognized, but they were after rebooting, so did they function properly after this reboot? Did you connect these on the same port you usually connect your Logitec and keyboard to, or did you try different ports?
    - Do you have access to another mouse and or keyboard, which is 100% sure known to work perfectly on another computer? If yes, try this on your mac.
    - When you tried the mouse and keyboard on the Macbook Air, did you try it long enough to be 100%sure they work fine? Let's say at least 3-5 times longer then the average freezing intervals on your mac? (If you just tested briefly, you can't be sure.)
    - How does it freeze? The pointer just stops moving? or do you see a spinning beachball?
    Another thing:
You are posting in the Power Mac forum
you should actually post this in the Mac Pro forum
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/mac_pro
although they look similar, the older Power Mac line were equiped with IBM PPC processor(s), and the newer Mac Pro line features Intel CPU's.
You will likely get more help if you post in the right forum, which is more active.
You can refer to this thread though

  • HOWTO: Magic Mouse in Windows XP Pro

This is easiest to do when you have another mouse already working with the system...
    1. Install your bluetooth support and service packs for XP
    2. Go to Bluetooth devices from your control panel or system tray
    3. Connect the Magic Mouse and wait until the machine settles down.
    4. Click Add..
    5. Check my device is set up and ready to be found
    6. Click Next
    7. Click the device from the list - it should appear as the address of the mouse (looks like a Mac address)
    8. Click Next
    9. Don't use a passkey
    10. Wait until the bubble appears saying to click here because a device is requesting your attention (or whatever it says)
    11. Pass key is 0000
    12. Click Next
    13. Click Finish
    14. Go back to Bluetooth devices
    15. Click on the device from the list
    16. Click Properties
    17. Give the device a reasonable name (like Magic Mouse?)
    18. Click Services tab
    19. Check drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)
    20. Click Ok.
That should be it. This was not the first bluetooth device I added, so you may need additional steps to configure bluetooth to start with, but that it is out of the scope of this guide.
As you have probably read, the left and right mouse buttons work, but the touch features (such as scrolling) do not.
I suppose this should work in a VM system on OSX, if you have drivers to pass thru the machine's bluetooth functionality.
If you have followed this steps and can't get it to work, maybe Windows is too much for you and you should buy a Mac (I haven't tried it on my Air yet, but expect the process to be much easier than this.. but then again, I already love the Air touchpad, why would I spoil it with a mouse?)

If I boot directly from the BootCamp partition, MagicMouse is NOT recognized and no driver seems to be installed. If I run Win7 with VMWare Fusion from the BootCamp partition, MagicMouse runs just fine.
I have installed the BootCamp 3.1 update and a driver for the MagicMouse does not seem to have been installed. I would really like to see a standalone Windows Installer for the MagicMouse driver.
Apple's KB Article: TS3039 does not mention anything about Win7. "When using an Apple Magic Mouse with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, vertical scrolling and two-finger swiping may not work."

  • Magic Mouse won't reconnect after Lion upgrade

Okay, I'll lay this out as quickly and consisely as possible.
I've searched every post and site I can find and tried everything suggested, and still no luck.
I have Mac Pro with an external bluetooth dongle, Magic Mouse, and I have just upgraded to OSX 10.7 Lion.
My Magic Mouse has always reconnected flawlessly to my machine after booting or waking, but after upgrading to Lion, it refuses to re-pair after booting or waking.  In bluetooth preferences, I can see in the Devices pane that "Steven's Mouse" is disconnected, but every couple of seconds this will flash green and show "Connected" - but only for a half second - and then it's back to "Not Connected".
I've set BT setup assistant to open on startup, and only when I have manually deleted and re-paired my Magic Mouse using the keyboard does the Magic Mouse connect.
Then sleep and wake and I'm back to square one.
    I have:
Restarted after trashing every bluetooth .plist file (~/Library/Preferences and also HD/Library/Preferences) - and bluetooth drivers
    Sone several SMC Resets
    Zapped my PRAM
    Made my mouse a 'Favorite'
Deleted and re-paired it more times than I can count
Turned the mouse on and off
    Clicked it
    Double-clicked it
    Kept clicking it
    Turned it on and off
    Triple-checked the batteries
Tested my mouse with another machine running SL
Tested another mouse with my machine
    - All with no luck whatsoever.  I'm about down to writing a suicide note or something!!!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Steven
(BTW I'm 100% sure the issue is within the Lion system somewhere - not my hardware.

Hi, I had the same problem but it's fixed now.  It seems that the order you turn mouse and bluetooth off and on makes the difference.  This is what worked on my macbook pro (eventually!):
turn off bluetooth and mouse.  Turn on bluetooth.  Open system preferences.  Open mouse. It starts searching. then Turn on mouse.  Hey presto! (and much to my surprise) it found it.
It also worked if I left the mouse on, and turned it off and on after opening the mouse in system preferences and it had started searching.  But if, for example, I turned on the mouse before opening system preferences,it was no go.
There is another issue:  I (like I suspect a lot of people) switch between lion and snow leopard (Macbook Pro and Mac Mini respectively), and every time it has to be paired manually. I have found I have to use the entire process shown above with both OSs.
Also, the mouse has to be paired to Lion at every startup.  I never have to re-pair the mouse with Snow leopard on startup (unless it's been paired to Lion in the meantime!).
I hope that some of this might help someone, even just a little.

  • Mouse back and forward buttons don't work

I have a Dell wireless bluetooth mouse. I installed Safari 4, and I like it a lot. I am thinking of ditching IE, but the back and forward buttons on my mouse don't do anything in Safari. It's very frustrating having to click the back button on screen instead of directly on my mouse. The buttons work perfectly in IE and in Windows explorer. I reinstalled the mouse drivers, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Did u get any software for your mouse? What brand is your mouse? I have Logitech setpoint software, where I can adjust mouse profile, setup mouse buttons action... I also have option (checkbox) to make my mouse use windows generic settings (the one you have in Control Panel under mouse section.
Now, this is just an idea, but it's good start point.
What you can also do (if you have such software installed) to uninstall it, restart, and see if Safari back/forward will work. Maybe this software (for some bizarre reason) conflicts Safari default action (as you said you don't have such problem in Fx)
Let me know if this worked for you.
    Cheers,
    Miki
EDIT: Before you do all this, maybe it's easier for you (if possible) to try another mouse, to see if you have same issues or not

  • Why does only my magic mouse work with 10.6.8 update?!!!

Hi. Ever since updating my software to 10.6.8, the ONLY mouse I can use is the Magic Mouse - ANYTHING ELSE I try and use, wireless or not, will cause my computer to crash. I get asked to turn it off and back on. As soon as I try another mouse, I get a black curtain go down my screen and the message comes up. I have been getting these Kernal Panic things also when I start up with another mouse connected. I HATE THE MAGIC MOUSE! And now I am being forced to use it. Is Apple serious about this? It's ridiculous. I can't work properly with this mouse. HELP!!!!! Is there going to be any fix?

If your HP is networked and using Bonjour as a protocol, then the 10.6.8 update made some changes to the core backend services such as Bonjour and this could be causing the error. With the job in error in the print queue, you can highlight the job (click once to select it) and then press the Job Info button (the blue circle with the white I inside). Doing this will give more information about the problem. You can post that information back here so we can advise what steps to take next.
If the printer is connected to the Mac via USB then you may just need to remove the existing print queue, by opening Print & Fax and selecting the HP and then pressing the minus button. With the queue removed you can then click the plus button to add the queue again, selecting the HP in the Default Add Printer view.

  • Do i need a mouse with a wireless keyboard

I have an iPad 1, now a year old, and my daughter has just sent me a wireless Apple keyboard to use with it. I use a mouse so often with my regular desktop Mac, and can't tell whether the wireless keyboard has a trackpad or a connection for a mouse. Do I have to buy another mouse?
    Thanks!

Hi I see ur post from December....    I am a new IPad user and wondered this exact thing.

I too am a typer and hate the tiny hen pecking required w the iPad.     Want a separate one.  .... But if it still manually requires me to put my finger on the screen.   Seems like that'd be an awful pain.

    Hi,
I don´t have a mighty mouse, I only got a normal Microsoft mouse.
It works totally fine but every few minutes my computer sais that I my mighty mouse is connected and then another few minutes later it sais its disconected. My Macbook thinks there is a mighty mouse allthough its not. Is there anything I can do?
(I tried everything, also another mouse didn´t solve the problem.)
    Thanks for your help.

Get a mighty mouse and your MBP will be satisfied.

  • Wired mouse causes screens to move about

I've read problems with mouse cursors that move randomly. My problem is that the screens I'm working on jump around randomly when I touch my wired mouse. I've dis- and re-connected both mouse and keyboard; I've also changed mouse settings in System Preferences, but I can't stop screens from moving without losing use of mouse. Is there any way to reset? Will new mouse solve my problem?

Hi, have you tried:- SMC & PRAM resets..
I would also consider trying another mouse & keyboard combination so as to reassure yourself your existing K/B & Mouse are not giving the issue..L

  • 5 button mouse, as they do it in windows

I have just started using OS X on my brand new MacBook Pro. Being a long time windows user brings with itself some painful changes. But first I need to applaud the genius touch pad; it’s a joy to work with. However, there are situations where you need to use an external mouse. I have been a fan of the Logitech MX series of mice, and owns at least 7 of them. But the button configuration is not as I prefer:
Mouse button 3: In windows did I use it to close and open tabs in browsers, and autoscroll when the pointer was not located over anything clickable. In OS X does it bring up the dashboard.
Mouse button 4 & 5: In windows did I use these buttons to go forward and backward (like the 3 finger sideways swipe). In OS X does Mouse button 4 open expose (clever, but Mouse button 6 is the app switching button)
I have tried USB overdrive, Logitech Control Center (only compatible with the MX510 not MX518) and Steermouse. None of with solves the problem with Mouse Button 3, 4 and 5. Any suggestion for another mouse modification app? Are there setting I have missed in the apps I have tried?

it would take some work, but you could just put an
icon of the close button on the tab, then use
mouselisteners to determine if a mouseevent happened
within the bounds of the icon...The mouseevents give x,y co-ordinates but they do not cover the tab-portion, only panel below the tab.
