10.6.2 & Eduroam problem

Is it possible to log on Eduroam network using Snow Leopard (10.6.2)?? I am following directions found all over the internet, but every time I keep gettin 802.1x error. I just got my Macbook Pro because I'm a graphics design student, and I can't get online at my college. My friends with 10.5.x Leopard have no problem connecting. Will there be a patch, because it's obvious that there's a problem with Snow Leopard?

I also have problems. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2348215&tstart=0
It seams that it depends on the authentication protocol used. I can connect to Eduroam if I use an account that uses TTLS at the home server like SUFRNet or RuG, but not to my own home institute (ASTRON), which uses PEAP-MSCAHPv2 authentication.
Is seems something goes wrong in the authentication protocol negotiation. It worked fine on 10.4/Tiger and on my iPhone, it's specifically Snow Leopard that's broken.
Is your institute also using PEAP-MSCHAPv2, or is it using something else?
If Iker Exebarria can connect, please tell us how you solved it. I've tried everything I could find.

  • Eduroam problem

    Hello
I have a very odd problem with my T42. Whenever i try to install the network client, "Eduroam, my laptop won't start up. After typing in my password I can't get further than the blue Welcome-message from XP. I'm running Windows XP proffesional with SP 3 and I need "Eduroam" to connect to the wireless internet at school.
Can some of you guys help me?

Hi Ankeret, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
I'm not sure how many eduroam users we have wandering around here...
...knowing nothing about it, I would say check that you have the latest network drivers for your T42. If you have, try reinstall them, then reinstall eduroam.
I'm assuming the system boots and the networking works on other networks, without the eduroam software installed?
Is there a help desk for eduroam?
The T42 is a ubiquitous and solid laptop, compatible with just about everything, and it's most likely you just have a setup issue. Your exact model type will help others help you further...

  • Nokia N8 eduroam conection

    Hello.
I'm trying to follow some protocols to connect my new N8 to eduroam and it looks impossible.
It always give me a error to conect, but without any reason.
I don't know if it is a global n8 problem, if it is a eduroam problem or in last case Lund university problem.
    Can someone help me ?

  • Problems Connecting to eduroam.

Hello, i have a hughe problem, my macbook pro late 2007 cant connect to eduroam.
I have all the setting that i had in leopard, and now it only stays authenticating and dosen't authenticate.
    Can anyone help me?
    Compliments

I'm having the same issue on Eduroam in the UK. One workaround most people have been using here is to connect to an unsecured network and wait for an IP address then connect to Eduroam. Seems to work 100% of the time, but connecting to Eduroam fist time always fails.
We have an unsecured, walled garden network to register the MAC address. Nothing has to be registered, but it always seems to work.
That's definitely a SL issue as some people had no issues then, after upgrading, could not connect the next day. I've also had problems connecting the iPhone 3G, but I can't verify that it is the same problem, yet.

  • Dhcp server won't admit my Arch Linux (though Win's have no problems)

    1. Generally my dhcpcd works fine in every network (and always has, I have not changed anything substantial).
    2. Currently I am in a network (for just a couple of weeks) in which it does not.
    3. The network will ignore all my dhcp requests over both network devices, enp1s0 and wlp2s0 (ethernet and wifi)
    4. When trying the same from Windows (dual boot), the dhcp client works brilliantly (i.e. the hardware is fine)
    5. I can force entry into the cable network by simply assigning an IP address and setting netmask and gateway as was configured by dhcp when I tried from Windows
    6. For wifi this does not work. More specifically it works for a brief moment if (and only if) I was connected from Windows immediately before and assign myself the same IP address (I can ping the gateway and also 8.8.8.8). After this moment the network apparently kicks me out (cannot ping anything any more, nothing answers). dhcpcd inform (dhcpcd -s <IP Adress>) does not fare better.
    7. I tried changing some of the settings in dhcpcd.conf that have been given as reasons for similar problems in the forums, archwiki, or somewhere else, including exchanging 'duid' for 'clientid', and commenting out 'require dhcp_server_identifier'. Does not help. My dhcpcd.conf, see below.
    8. dhclient does not work either.
What I want: Connect to the internet via wifi from Arch.
I guess this comes down to making the dhcp server believe my Arch was one of the Windowses it is used to. How do I do that?
I understand that dhcp does not involve clients revealing their operating systems to the servers; but some configurations are likely different between Arch and Windows. I am not used to working with Windows and have no idea how to access the dhcp client configuration settings there (if this is even possible) to get an idea what exactly is different. Here is my dhcpcd.conf - any ideas what exactly about it displeases the server so much or what I might change or add to make the server more pleasantly inclined?
    dhcpcd.conf
    hostname
    clientid
    #duid
    persistent
    option rapid_commit
    option domain_name_servers, domain_name, domain_search, host_name
    option classless_static_routes
    option ntp_servers
    #require dhcp_server_identifier
    nohook lookup-hostname
    noipv4ll
I would include the logs as well, but they are boring beyond belief, do not contain anything except for dhcpcd trying and failing with timeout.

    Thanks, MoonSwan & ewaller,

Found that, There are a lot of "Advanced properties", for instance "Bandwidth Capacity" is set to "11b/g: 20MHz", "BSS Mode" is set to "802.11n Mode", "Fragmentation Threshold" to "2346" (whatever that may mean) ... etc. Unfortunately, I cant copy any of that; most of it also seems rather unimportant; also I left all this on its default setting when I followed the instructions on how to connect to this wifi on Windows.
However, here is some information I managed to squeeze out of the pathetic, pittyful Windows terminal which they call the "Comand Line"

What I find odd is this "Taredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface". As a matter of fact, I have not the slightest idea if this is happening inside this local Windows I have here or if this is something real in the network configuration (on the other side of the access point)... It apparently should tunnel IPv6 to IPv4 and/or vice versa. However, why would there be two connections over the same network interface (IPv6 and IPv4)...
What is odd as well is that the DHCP server is not part of the subnet my Windows is in. It just seems to announce IP, netmask, gateway to the Windows ... (the gateway is in the subnet). Could it be that the Linux dhcp client does not accept something like that. No, that's unlikely, right? dhcpcd -d should have reported this...

Actually, I always felt that the Arch Forum is quite tolerant in this respect. (And so is reddit, but of course, you are right, there are places on the internet where you can run into a lot of assholes. Kind of like in the real world... Quite frustrating.)
ewaller wrote:I guess it could be a MAC problem. but I don't know.
Unlikely; on windows the mac address is the same.
ewaller wrote:  Can you get to the router logs? Can you see if the router saw a solicitation?
no. and given their network configuration I don't suppose the IT people here would be very forthcoming if I asked them. Their helpdesk said that they couldn't help me since my laptop was not one of their computers.
ewaller wrote:Also, (just a sanity check) are you sure you are connected to the correct access point?  But that does not make sense -- you said this happens on wired as well sad
    Dang.
I am. It's WPA2 encrypted & I only have access data to this one wifi network. (To avoid confusing everyone with mentioning too many different things, I did not detail this in the original post. I am accessing it using wpa_supplicant running in a terminal; wpa_supplicant works fine says "connection succeeded" etc. So the problem is not in the WPA/ wifi-connection layer but really in the IP/dhcp layer.)
ewaller wrote:Is this a corporate environment? A school perhaps?
Yes, a university. They have someone working here who went through great lengths to make it difficult for people to connect to the internet.

  • Can't connect to Eduroam on my WP 8 Nokia Lumia 930

    Hi!
So, I just got the new Lumia 930, which I am very happy with, however I can not seem to get it to connect to Eduroam at the university I work at. When I go to the page where I am suppose to 'join' or 'download' whatever I need, 'securew2', (using the phone)
it detects that I am using a Windown Phone, but it only just gives me settings to 'configure my device'. Such as:
    SecurityType:WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption: AES
    EAP Type: TTLS
    Inner EAP Type: PAP
    CA Certificate: UTN-USERFirst-Hardware, AddTrust etc..
When I then go into WiFi and click on Eduroam, I try to log in with my user-credentials. I can also look through a list of certificates but none of them seem to be the right one. The only choice I really get is the EAP-method, where I change it from PEAP
MA-CHAP v2 (which did not work) to TTLS. Then I am asked to verify that it is the right network, which it is - with the name of the university and everything - I click OK....and then there is a full stop. I only get a 'can't connect' message. Very frustrating.
I talked to the IT people at here, and they verified my user credentials, and told me that people with Windows Phones had trouble connecting to Eduroam.
As should be abundantly clear by now I am technologically challenged, so please help help help me fix this. If for no other reason then to silence my snickering, iPhone-loving colleagues.

    Hello,
Did you find a solution for this issue?
I just bought a Nokia Lumia 735 and I have the same problem. Unable to connect the Eduroam network in my laboratory. It seem that I have to put an other certificate which is not on my device (from TERENA), and I did not find how to do it.
It is a bit disappointing to be blocked on such a new device. My previous phone, an old Iphone 3gs, was able to connect very easily...
Please help, or I will regret my choice to switch on Windows Phone (if I add the poor choice regarding the apps on the Store...).
    Regards.

  • Apple TV using eduroam.

We want to use the apple tv as an academic tool.
The fact is that all of us use an Apple device as a Lab Journal, so we want to have Apple tv in the lab.
As part of the university, our network is Eduroam, a secure, world-wide roaming access service. Would still be possible to use our Apple tv with that kind of network?
And second question, is it possible to do it with a HD beamer, and without connection to a TV?
Thank you very much in advance for your answers,
    Tania

Sorry about that. My iPhone is landscape the apple tv mirrors the image horizontal. I can turn phone horizontal & Apple TV displays verticle. So my phone displays the correct orientation but the Apple tv is opposite of what it should be. It is not the other caller either. They can see correctly on their phone/iPad, they are not using Apple tv. Can use a iOS 7 device with my Apple TV and Apple tv works correctly. Not able to send picture at this time. Have also tried with 2 different Apple tv devices. Hope this enough detail that explains that the problem.

At the same time, I have no problem with my PC with Windows Seven ! I have the same problem with my iPhone (ios 7.0.6).
At home, my wifi is WPA2 Personnal and I have no problem nor with my Macbook, nor with my iPhone.
    Thanks for your help.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome Epiphany 3.14 via eduroam, cannot load secure webpages

    Hi
My problem is the following: everytime I try to load a secure webpage (https) in epiphany 3.14 the browser responds with "Oops! Unable to display this website." and "Peer failed to perform TLS handshake". Unsecure pages load normally. This problem only occurs when I am connected to the internet using eduroam (in other wireless networks the secure pages load normally). With other browsers all pages (secure and unsecure) load normally using eduroam.
    Thanks,

  • [solved] eduroam with netctl?

Hello, i'm trying to install arch on my school laptop. (I installed linux (not arch) before: it ain't a problem.)
Here they use a network called Airborne. It has wpa2-enterprise security.
(Here is a picture of the network configration in windows)
To install netctl I just placed the netctl and openresolv packages in my windows partition and installed them with pacman -U during installation.
My question is: how can I connect to wpa2-enterprise with netctl?
    Last edited by mid-kid (2013-06-21 13:27:14)

I found setting it up with wpa_supplicant too complicated.
I used archiso on my other pc to make an iso including wicd and this config: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wi … _with_wicd
    Thanks for the help anyway!
EDIT: It looks like somebody made it work with netctl: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Netctl#Eduroam
    I haven't tried it though.

  • X6 - problem with 802.1x wlan

Hi, finally my university has joined eduroam, they use EAP-PEAP and EAP-MSCHAPv2. I have the right Authorithy Cert installen in the mobile. However, i cannt connect. Either the X6 shows something like "Error: Wlan not found" or "EAP_PEAP: Authentification failed" Is there anything i can try? Non-802.1x-wlans work without problems.
    greetings malte

    Hello,
thanks for your link. Of course I will read. CiscoTac think that we have bug CSCtq32145 and we are working in this way.
    Regards.

  • Serious problem with Safari

Sometimes (after upgrading to SL 10.6.3) when I start Safari and open some page, it shows the wheel, the display sometimes flash (sorry, not sure the correct therm - maybe blinking?) and I can not do anything. So I have to turn down the macbook by pressing power button for 10 sec.
I§ve tried to take some picture of it. You can see some scratches on left bottom corner of Safari. I had just iPhone 3G with myself, so the pictures are not so great, but you can see it there
    http://gallery.me.com/jakudo#100169
What can I do with it? How can I fix it?

Thanks for idea, however, I don't think this is part of the problem.
Eduroam or *.cvut.cz is network in our university. When I connect to the network (LAN or Wi-Fi), I have to sign in with my university name and password and the answer for your question - no it is not happening every time I connect. I connect my computer to that network almost every day and it happen just sometimes. Actually the strange thing happened also at home, where I don't need to sign in.
Just few minutes ago, Safari freeze again (for about 2 minutes) and than kept working correctly. The console show this:

  • Problems authentication school network

    Hi,
At the moment I'm unable to connect to the school network with Arch Linux.
If using Windows and/or Android, I can connect without any issues.
The school uses the following security (authentication)-method:
    - WPA2 Enterprise
    - PEAP
    - MSCHAPv2
    - No certificate (they said it's not needed)
    - A global username/password
The school should support it (at least Ubuntu).
There is also an eduroam network available, but also unable to login to this network.
I also tried the code (wiki) for eduroam, but this didn't work either.
I can connect, but I'm getting a message that the authentication failed with wicd & NetworkManager.
Has it something to do with the certificate? I had this problem somewhere else, but I needed the certificate of the network before I could connect to it properly.
Should it be possible to export the Android settings somewhere and port this to Arch? Has someone maybe an idea to solve this?
I already searched on the forums, but most of them got it working, but I haven't found any solution yet. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong info.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion orschiro , unfortunately none of them work.
I'm using USB-tether to share the WiFi-connection, but it is a bit strange it connects correct with Android, but not with Arch Linux.
    Maybe I'm missing something. :S
For the record, I have the same error on both the own school network and eduroam.
