10.6.2 Poor battery charge persists

I just updated to 10.6.2 on my late 2008 2.53 and the charge still isn't going over 3 hrs at full charge. In fact, I'm sitting here watching it decrease from 3 hrs to 1.1 hrs in about 20 min of use. Almost a 2 hr drop in 20 minutes???
WTH is going on? I bout this new in July and it shows 85 battery cycles

I had a similar problem with 70-75% less than normal battery life after installing 10.6.2. Also, the bottom of my early '09 MBP would get hot and the fan would run loudly. I did the PRAM reset / shut down / battery removal & replacement routine, which seemed to help. But only temporarily.
I've since found that turning off plugins in Safari seems to be the permanent fix. Specifically, I think it's Flash 10.x that causes some kind of runaway process that doesn't show up on Activity Monitor or on the "top" command in Terminal.
So, if you can live without Flash and other Safari plugins, it would be interesting to see if this works for other people. There is apparently a way to run .swf file without Flash, using Javascript, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Apple implements this technology ASAP. (Until Flash is eventually killed off by Quicktime, HTML5, etc.)
Here's the non-Flash .swf demo: http://paulirish.com/work/gordon/demos/

  • Satellite Pro L50 - poor battery charge capacity

Satellite Pro L50, I had a warning box appear from the Toshiba PC Health Monitor which said
"Your battery charge capacity is relatively poor.
After a period of time, the battery will lose its ability to perform at max capacity & may need to be replaced. This is normal for all batteries. For more info about the 'poor' charge status click the help button."
Clicking the help button indicated the battery condition at about a third charge capability.
Is this an indication that I need a new battery?
The laptop is only 4 months old & I have some concerns. Comments appreciated
    Regards, Mooky.

    Laptop PSKJPA-00E00U Satellite Pro L50-A O/S Win7 Pro SP1 32b purchased 22/10/2013.
    1. 10/7/2014 Toshiba PC Health Monitor indicated "Battery Charge Capacity Poor - Battery will loose its ability to perform at max capacity & may need to be replaced". Battery (PA5107U-1BRS) was replaced by Toshiba as the battery is enclosed within the laptop case.
    2. Currently there is a red cross on the battery charge notification icon which indicates "consider changing your battery".
This indicator is a Windows battery health warning which I have now disabled. The Toshiba PC Health Monitor indicates that the battery is good & everything is OK.
PC works fine & battery charge usually lasts about 2 hours.
Is the battery on the way out?
Do I need to contact Toshiba again as the batteries seem to last less than one year & are difficult to replace being inside the case.
I would appreciate any advice as I am unsure where to go from here.

  • Apple care is useless in India. I bought an iPhone 5 from a Maple store in June 2013.  Also got convinced at the store and purchased an additional Insurance worth Rs 1000 at the same time. The iPhone 5 has a very poor battery life. Needed to be charged at

Apple care has been of absolutely no help to me. My 10 month old iPhone 5 stopped charging one fine day and Apple denies any responsibility for  the same. Between my Family of 4, we Re currently using 5 Apple devices. Am so disappointed with the service from Apple. Although my cell phone is well within the warranty period , I have been denied a replacement. And the Shield Insurance that I purchased is now declining the insurance amount even. They insist I prove that it is an accidental damage. And Apple refuses to cover what they choose to call a 'physical damage'. So where does that leave me ?!

I cannot see the damage. But the screening centre has pics showing it is damaged. Apple refuses to cover a physical damage. But the reason the device is damaged could only be coz it had a poor battery life from start. The iPhone 5 is infamous for the same. We all know it. Apple conveniently denies responsibility.
And the Insurance company says it covers only accidental damage. Now how am I to prove an 'accidental' damage ? Unless I lie to them....

  • I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there

I have a ipad 4th gen with the lightning charging port. I have realised how long it takes to charge and the poor battery life which means I can't take my ipad anywhere. Is there a case that is available that will charge my ipad? I know they are out there for older iPads with the 30pin charger but I can't find one for the lighning 8pin charger.

I don't know what you mean by "poor battery life". If your iPad is working properly you should get 9-10 hours of life.

  • Very Poor Battery Life on Iphone 5. Apple has no solution.

So I noticed extremely poor battery life on my iphone 5 around 3 weeks ago. This means 2.5-3 hrs usage and 10-11 hrs standby. I went to the apple store and they recommended to restore and set up as new. I did that but the problem persisted. They ran the diagnostic test on my phone and turns out the battery was healthy. So, it was definitely a software bug.
I went again to the store after "set up as new". They said that I did not charge to 100% (which I have been doing) based on their "data"  and hence my battery life is bad. This is a stupid reason. I showed them numerous screen shots of my phone down to 1% after a 100% charge, but the so called "genius" refused to believe me. This was one of the most irritating apple employees I have ever met. He kept giving me his weird theories on battery life.
(Just to clarify, I tried all battery life improvement methods(turning off network, push mail, background app refresh and location services) over the past two weeks and hence went to the apple store. Also, I am studying computer science and have a reasonable idea about this stuff.)
After they were unable to clearly diagnose the issue because their diagnostic was not giving them data, they decided to replace my battery, which they did. But the problem STILL persists. They asked me to come back in a week if i still have the issue.
I am really irritated with the apple support and the issue I am facing. Below is a screensshot of my phone after a 100% charge. The numbers speak for themselves. Anyone facing similar issuse or have any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Went to apple again. Same problem. Drains 5% an hour on standby with everything shut and airplane mode. They said this is "normal" and REFUSED to replace my phone as the battery health was normal. They say, "The hardware is ok, so we cannot replace the phone". I had them do a full restore from recovery mode. DId not help.
Just to reiterate. I have done EVERYTHING- restore, full restore, shut apps, turned of location services, wifi, network, push mail, BG app refresh and reduced motion and set auto-lock to 1 min. Even auto-brightness is off and screen is at 30% brightness.
Now I am stuck. Poor battery and uncompramising apple. This is perhaps making me anti-apple from an apple fan.
Just wanted to ask, are such usage times and standby times normal? They are much less than what apple claims.

  • Right way for battery charging

Hi everybody! I bought an iPad Air when he was released. Surfing on Internet, I've heard conflicting opinions about the right way to charge the iPad (or the iPhone) to increase its battery life. What I want to ask is this: iit is true that once a month you have to bring the battery to 0% and then charging it?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Has anyone found a solution to the poor battery life in Mavericks?

    Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone has found a reliable solution to the poor battery life after updating to Mavericks. I tried to have the Mac shutdown by letting it go all the way dead and then charge it back up but it still is lousy. To literally see the battery guage go down in such a short period of time is surprising as I didn't have this in my previous OS. My machine is a five month old Macbook Pro Retina. I want to say I started seeing this change after installing the last Mail update for Mavericks. I definitely didn't encounter it after the initial update to Mavericks.
    Thoughts, comments, ideas?
    Ed

Read through the posts on the right side of the page under 'More Like This'. Several fixes have been mentioned amongst them. But as there was an issue in Mountain Lion that was rectified with an update then it may just be a case of waiting to see if Apple issue a solar update for Mavericks. Remember it has only been out two weeks so I would doubt that if there is an update coming for it that they would release it without thorough testing.
    Cheers
    Pete

  • I have an iphone 4S that the battery charge always shows 1%.

When I plug it in it seems like it charges up but the indication doesn't move from 1%.  I have been operating normally otherwise for the past 8 hours without recharging and it still shows 1%.  I have used different chargers and it does not make a difference and have tried shutting it down.  I think it is operating fine, just indicating the wrong battery charge.  Has someone run across this before?  What can I do to fix it.

    Hi Tim,
Since the battery is holding a charge and the issue is persisting after a restart, a restore should resolve the issue.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    Restore your iOS device
Connect your iOS device to your computer using the cable that came with it.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. In the Summary pane, click the Restore button for your device.
Click Restore again to confirm that you want to restore your device to factory settings and delete all data and content. iTunes will download the iOS software file and restore your iOS device.
After your iOS device is restored to factory settings, it will restart, and you’ll see the "Slide to set up” welcome screen. Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. You can set up your device as new or using a previous backup. If your iOS device has cellular service, it will activate after you restore.
    Additional Information
If you get an error message, find out how to fix most update and restore errors.
If your iOS device with cellular service doesn’t activate after restoring, find out how to fix activation issues.
If your iOS device restarts repeatedly or isn’t responding, for example if you see a stopped progress bar or no progress bar, put the device into recovery mode and restore it again.

  • Nokia 5800 - poor battery

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing poor battery life?  I only got the phone last week and it doesn't even last 24 hours without the battery running out.  I am not on the phone for long, I send a few messages and maybe look through the pics, but it just doesn't last long at all!!!!!!!!

My personal experience has been pretty positive. It lasted longer than I thought it would since I was used to charging my phone (after it reaches low battery) every 2.5 days.
My phone lasts me about 3-4 days on GSM mode with what I consider minimal use:
    In terms of activity:
    - occasional WLAN (about 30 minutes total) usage
    - occasional GPRS web surfing (about 30 minutes total) usage
    - 5-10 SMS-es a day
    - Brief phone calls less than 5 minutes (total about 5 calls)
    - I launch maps about 3-5 times a day with GPS and A-GPS on, using about less than 5-10 minutes each time.
Brightness is also a notch above the mid-point.
It's been that way since the first charge.
Usually after 2 days, I'll charge my phone eventhough it's half of the bars. I get really nervous when the bars get low.
Once, when my house lost power at night, I sat in the garden listening to music for about 3 hours. I had roughly about half of the bars (or slightly more) when I first started playing my tracks.
"Try not. Do or do not, there is no try."
If you found someone's comments helpful or like what that person has to say, please give some Kudos to the post!

  • IPhone 4G poor battery life after iOS5

Since weeks I'm in discussion with Apple care about my poor battery quality since I have update it to iOS 5.
I switch really everything what could use battery off, all background tasks are off, but the Battery life is still not more then one day.
Any idea how I can check the baterry quality? I did not had this problems with 4.3.5
best regards and thank you for any idea!

Sounds more like an app stuck processing that shouldn't be....does happen from time to time. Behing hot means it is constantly processing.
    To fix:
    Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
    A reset/reboot is:
    Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
    Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
    Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

iPhone 4S Poor Battery Performance SOLVED!!
I found the issue with the iPhone 4S battery performance.
I bought 2 iPhone 4S models on the first day. One for my wife and one for me. The strange thing was that mine would kill the battery in 4-6 hours and ran VERY WARM to the touch. My wife's phone worked great. It was cold to the touch. She would forget to charge it at night... and the battery performance was great... even better than our prior 3GS models.
What was the difference? I have my phone connected to Exchange for my corporate email. But exchange is not exactly the problem. The issue is in Notification Center. For some reason, I had hundreds of calendar reminders that kept refreshing on notification center. Furthermore, the reminders would flicker between the time remaining and the start time for the event at such a fast rate that it could not be read... (clearly a bug)
What is the solution? Go to Settings>Notifications>Calendar and disable Notification Center. You can still have the "alert style" set to Banners, or Alerts and you will still receive notices about your events, but it will not BUILD a summary in the Notification Center drop down screen. This is where the BUG exists. [Oddly, this does not affect my iPad 2, but is an issue for iOS 5 on the iPhone (different builds, maybe?)]
So, it appears that Notification Center has an endless loop in collecting the calendar events from Exchange and this is burning up our 4S batteries. Once you stop the madness from Notification Center, your iPhone 4S will perform as advertised.
    Enjoy!

  • NOKIA N95 EXTREMELY POOR BATTERY

    Hei.
I have bought Nokia N95 last week and returned it today after extremely poor battery performance. I observed following things:-
    1) I charged the battery full early in the morning at 6. I recieved just one call at 9 and my battery was finished at 2:30. Just for 8 hours standby time?
    2) I charged it fully, used GPS for 30 mins and battery was finsihed after 3 hours? What was that?
    3) I fully charged the battery connected to WIFI and did chat on MSN for around 1 hour and battery was finished exactly after 3.5 hours.
Nokia builtup so great device and with so much poor battery?
We will be getting battery replacement? or nokia will be releasing some new battery in future for N95?
Anyone if having same problem with battery please post comments here or its just with my device?
    Waqar.

    selling my n95 on ebay
    battery is too poor
i need a phone that dosent need charging 2x 3x every day just for average general use
gonna go back to my n73 battery is much better operating system is nice and stable after v4 on n73-- i hate the key miss bug in the v12 firmware on n95 --
    i dont need wifi
dont like maps and in built gps as it takes so long even with the assisted thing turnt on
my n73 and tomtom is up and running in 1 min max via bluetooth gps
allthough it would be handy to have the inbuilt one when i didnt have my reciever but my battery would prob drain after 1-2 hours :-)
my gps reciever goes for at least 6 hours constantly connected probs much longer and that only cst 30 quid
dunno i was just much more satisfied with the n73 as a contract upgade
    even the slider seems loose
this device is supposed to cost 500+ quid on nokias website
if i paid that i would be sooooo dispaointed
    just my view
if your near a power source all the time or are in the car with a charger youd prob be ok but i just think nokia could/should have put a better battery in there i mean it plays music for like 3-4 hours then batterys drained a half decent mp3 player will last 10-15 hours and my n73 does 5-6 no probs :-)

  • Lumia 720 poor battery

Few days back i got Lumia 720, flaunted by best battery reviews. But from day 1 i am experiencing poor battery performance. WiFi,data, nfc,Bluetooth, background service, sync all off, but battery still drains fast. After full charge it does not last more than 12 hrs. Even in one night it drains 10%for nothing.
while other people say they need to charge around every 2.5days approx, i have to charge every 12hrs & that too without enjoying the phone apps. I believe there is some battery problem. Totally unexpected. Pls suggest anyone..
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My 4 days old Lumia 720 too shows some battery draining issues like others.
After charging to 100% it shows 1 day 6 hours remaning, **bleep**? People are getting more than a day, like 2 in some cases. At least it should hold itself for 1 and half day where here I am getting "9-10 hours/16-17 hours of last recharge."
I tried draining the battery to 0, but at 2% Lumia powers down. I did a complete charge and still nothing.
Did a soft recent, nope no chages at all....still 9-10 hours max !!
    My approx usage:-
    WhatsApp for max 30minutes
FB, Twitter, LinkedIn all combined a 30minutes
2 to 2 and half hours of calls whole day
Decent rate for messaging through message app
    Camera for 10-15 minutes
No Games, if any then may be for 5-6 minutes
    Browsing for 20 minutes
apps such as calculator, calender, note, PDF reader, Office for 1 hour
Other small fiddiling (reArraging tiles, assinging pics to contacts, etc)
    battery Saver on
Background app is blocked, the ones Windows have allowed me to block
    Brightness set to low
Wi-Fi is off, though Data conection is on throughout
Gmail is sent o recive mails ever hour, if any
How on earth is it taking so much battery?

  • N95 Battery life possible solution to poor battery...

    Hi all
I like most other N95 users have experienced poor battery life, to the point of almost giving up on it.
I had been consistantly getting poor life even down to a couple of hours with all power hungry devices turned off.
Now my phone, with what I would consider average use, lasts up to 2 days on a full charge.
Like most people, I guess, I took it straight out of the box and plugged it in the wall charger and left it over night. I did this for the first week with still poor battery life.
Then one day it just started holding charge for up to 2 days.
I decided to read the manual the other night about charging the battery and right at the back of the book, where the instructions are, it mentions that if the battery has not been used for a while or has been in prolonged storage that what you should do is plug the charger in the wall and phone, switch on the charger and this is the key...unplug the charger from the phone and plug back in again. I guess this puts the battery into a discharge/recharge cycle.
If like me, you just plugged it straight into the phone and switched on the charger and left over night it may only have just topped up the battery without doing the discharge cycle first. In effect creating a battery memory effect although I thought that was a thing of the past.
Worth a shot before giving up on you N95's!
Like I said I now get on average 2 days use and that is with calls, pictures, texts and about 2 hours of GPS use a day.
I still have Wi-Fi scanning off and GSM turned off, I havn't got round to trying it with these functions turned back on.
    Good luck!

    WHAT??!? 200 hours on standby??
The truth, is this phone was made to be constantly plugged into car handsfree kit (not bluetooth) so that its constantly on charge. Bit like how a car GPS navigation unit, although removable, is constanly on charge while you are in the car driving.
Hence why the compromise- big power hungry screen and applications and hardware, low battery, but ok as constantly on charge.
Nokia Do NOT have a car kit for the N95 beleive me I have tried
I have been in touch with Nokia several times
The best I could do is a brodit active holder for car use
Yes The N95 should have a car kit but it does not have the pop port so will only connect on BT using even more battery power
So thats not the reason for the poor battery
Mine sometimes can last 10 to 15 hours and other days goes flat in under 3 and it is charged every night (it has to be) My N73 lasted 3 days and my 6230 last 2 weeks
