10.6.3 and Adobe CS4

I depend heavily on the Adobe Creative Suites for my business. I am currently running Adobe CS4. I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 because I have heard about all of the problems with Adobe CS4. I really don't want to make that leap, until I know the issues have been worked out. Have any Adobe users been able to successfully upgrade yet?

Why upgrade if your system is working and stable?
If you feel you really need to upgrade get a second hard disk and install Snow Leopard and CS4 on that. Once everything has been tested you can shift to the new system.

    It's possible to transfer licenses but it must be done by contacting a Customer Service representative by phone or web chat. They'll probably have you submit a form.

  • Is Mac OS X v10.7 Lion compatible with Microsoft 2008 and Adobe CS4?

    I am looking to upgrade my Macbook Pro to Lion and need to ensure that the following applicans will still work? Any know issues that I should be aware of before upgrading?

    I'm finding that Adobe CS4 isn't so fine, at least InDesign CS4 and Illustrator CS4. I researched this yesterday before I upgraded to Lion and couldn't find anything other than the possible issue with Java Runtime. I installed Lion and updated to Java For Mac OS X 10.7. However, both InDesign and Illustrator crash when I attempt to print. As soon as I select "Print" the spinning rainbow ball appears for a short time, then the programs crash. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Mac OS X 10.5.7 and Adobe CS4?

    Hi,
    I just purchased a copy of Adobe CS4 and then saw that it has only been tested up to 10.5.4. Adobe Technical Support was not much help! They said that I can install it and it will probably work, but if something goes wrong then they won't give me tech support because it's not tested for this version of Mac. I was shocked, since 10.5.7 came out over a year ago.
    Since this is a $2000 program, I want to be sure that it will work before I crack open the box. Have people had problems running CS4 on 10.5.7? Would CS3 work better?
    Thanks!

    I've had no problems running CS4 on any version of 10.5 up to and including 10.5.8. But I'm not a power user; you might want to ask in Adobe's own forums; anyone with problems with CS4 is most likely to take them up there.
    If Adobe denied me tech support (not that I've ever had any luck getting useful support from Adobe) because their testing and certification were behind and don't officially support the newer versions of 10.5, I'd be going 'round and 'round with them and it wouldn't be pretty. But that's Adobe for you; they're virtually a monopoly now since their buyout of Macromedia so they think they can do what they want.
    BTW, in fairness, 10.5.7 did not come out almost a year ago, but 10.5.5 did, so your point about them being far behind in version testing is still valid.

  • OS Maverick for Mac and Adobe CS4 compatibility and problem fixes

    Is Adobe CS4 Creative Suite which includes Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Bridge, etc.
    compatible with OS Maverick upgrade for Mac?  I want to upgrade my Mac Book Pro.

    It's not per se 100% compatible, but many people run it still. The biggest hurdle will be re-configuring your OSX so legacy apps don't bump into permission issues with user folders such as Library. Also it seems to be impossible to produce PDFs under certain conditions and CS4 apps don't recognize most modern printers.

  • Mountain Lion and Adobe CS4 - compatible?

    I have a MBP running OS 10.6.8, I would like to upgrade to the new OSX Mountain Lion to get all the benefits of icloud, but I want to be sure that my Adobe CS4 will run with the new operating system. Does anyone know?

  • Windows 8 Consumer Preview and Adobe CS4

    I know this is pre-release, but am hopeful anyway. I've installed CS4 onto my Windows 8 CP installation but am having problems with several programs:
    Dreamweaver has a problem with 'Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.' and won't start.
    Photoshop (both 32 and 64-bit) has a runtime error and stops working 'Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working'.
    Illustrator was having a problem loading plugins, but now I get nothing at all!
    I think this all has something to do with permissions. When I visit c:/Users/Username/Appdata/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS4/ I am warned I cannot access this. I delve a little deeper with the security tab and see there is no owner, so add my machine as the owner and I can access the folder. It's empty, however. The same applies to the folders for the other programs in the suite.
    Any ideas? I've reinstalled three times and it makes no difference.

    mrportman - Were you able to get it running? I also want to upgrade from 7 to Windows 8 but the Windows Upgrade Assistant says CS4 is not compatible. AS it standsd now CS4 is not upgradeable to current version so would force me to pay full price of ~$2k for Web Premium - ouch!
    Did you find a way to run CS4 on Win 8?
    The MSft resource at link below is unhelpful, to say the least, as the tables plasters the "compatible" icon even when most user votes reveal otherwise...

  • Snow Leopard and Adobe CS4 print to PDF

    Hi all,
    I recently upgraded to Leopard and noticed that while using photoshop and illustrator i can no longer choose Print->Print to PDF... I have to use this option because i print files via a network at school and I cannot send big .psd and .ai files. Any suggestions? I did some reading and discovered that Snow Leopard blocks that functionality.. so is there a work around or another way that I can print my files without them being really large.
    Thanks
    Matt

    The PDF drop down does not appear in Illustrator or Photoshop... I have access to it in Acrobat.
    The guys in the computer lab at school told me to do the following..
    1) From creative suite program. File-Save As-PDF
    2) Open that File in Adobe Acrobat
    3) Export file to Post Script File
    4) Re-Open that Post Script File in Acrobat and save it over the intial PDF file.
    Seems like there should be an easier way... (they are all PC guys)...

  • Windows 7 and adobe cs4 "settings"

    Had Windows 7 RC with cs4 and changed some settings and things were smooth, but now when I installed winows 7 and cs4 again and try to minimize a window, instead of the window being rolled up, you see the picture through windows areo menu bar.(see attached).
    Any quick way to fix that?
    Thanks in advance
    U

    Just got the latest ATI driver and what you see is from that, maybe I didnt make my initial post clear enough. What I want to happen in CS4 is to minimize a window, and have it set in the lower left of the program (like the image attached) but ROLLED UP, i do NOT want to see it "thru" the aero task bar, as I think a setting in CS4 needs to be checked somewhere.
    CS4 work should be contained inside the CS4 program...not bleed out into windows
    Normally in the past the minimized icon would set in lower left and roll up, to see it you would have to maximize in CS4.
    Im stuck.....becuse I had this working fine with windows 7 RC 3 months ago, but cant remember what I done in CS4....
    Is there any quick settings to make the program act and run like CS3?

  • NVIDIA Quadro CX  and Adobe CS4

    Just wondering if anyone's using this and is it worth the cost in AE?
    Also, noticed it has Stereo 3D monitoring support. How does this work in AE?
    Thanks for any replies.

    No idea, really. I've read a more detailed review here http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid=649, and while the thing seems to "hammer", the conclusion is, that it's primarily doing good things for Premiere and Photoshop users. So if you really only do AE and have no studio equipment that could benefit from the SDI and dual HDMI, it is probably not having that many advantages compared to a more affordable model. And I just realized once more, that I really need to rob a bank. ;-) Core7i, graphics card, big monitor... so many new beautiful things and no money on the account. *sigh*

  • MacBook Pro/Yosemite problems with Adobe CS4

    I have a new MacBook Pro and Adobe CS4.  Whenever I try to open any of the CS4 programs, I get an error message that I need to download legacy Java SE 6 runtime.  I have a newer version of Java (8), but I still get the message.  I attempted to download and install the SE 6, but my computer won't let me, because I have the newer one.  Any ideas?

  • ID CS4 and Adobe Digital Editions

    One reason I purchased ID CS4 was for the ability to create ebooks using ADE. However, my first attempt to export to ADE has been far from successful.
    The project is a 152-page book. It was "created" in ID CS4 and is straight text except for the publisher's logo, which appears on the title page. Each chapter is its own file, as is each element of the front matter. Three fonts are used in the publication: Arial, Formata, and Palatino. The Formata and Palatino fonts are OT fonts; they were newly purchased as OT fonts for this client. Each use of italic or bold in the book's text, excluding heads, is by a character style that includes the font family name. For example, if the text is supposed to be Palatino Italic, the character style includes both bits of information, a generic Italic is not used.
    I combined all of the elements of the project into a single ID Book, which is what I used to update numbering, etc. When I export to PDF from the Book, everything works fine. When I export to Adobe Digital Editions from the Book, the following occurs:
    1. Arial and Palatino are embedded but Formata is not.
    2. The first and last files of the Book (i.e., the title page and the References) appear in the ePub file and are viewable in the ADE viewer, but everything between those two files, including all of the text chapters, are empty files that appear as blank pages in the ADE viewer.
    What am I doing wrong? How do I
    a. Get Formata embedded?
    b. Get the complete project into an ePub file?
    Another thought: Would the way to do this be to do each chapter as a separate export to ADE and then combine each of the separate files into a single ePub file? If so, how would one do this? I've noted that when creating an ePub file several additional informational files are created. It isn't clear to me how one would combine that information.
    Also, is there a good source and/or book (or several sources and/or books) that gives step-by-step instruction information on turning a project into an ePub file? Although this project has no graphics, tables, etc., future projects will have numerous graphics, tables, etc. and so any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    You're not actually doing anything wrong. You're experiencing a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming update to InDesign CS4.
    The cause of the problem comes down to the spaces in the name of the font you've used in your document (i.e. Myriad Pro Bold). If an embedded font contains spaces in its name, it won't be used and Adobe Digital Editions will use its default font instead. The problem can be overcome by directly editing the EPUB file. I use Oxygen to open up the EPUB file directly, but you can also change the .epub file extension to .zip and then unarchive the package to gain access to the various files within it. Once you've opened the EPUB file, you need to modify three things: the template.css file, encryption.xml file, and the font files.
    Template.css
    At the top of the CSS file, you'll see font face declarations for each font you've used in your document. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro%20Bold.otf);
    Change to:
    @font-face {
    font-family: Myriad Pro;
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: bold;
    src:url(Fonts/MyriadPro-Bold.otf);
    Encryption.xml
    For each type style you've used in your document, there will be a <enc:CipherData> element. If your font(s) has spaces in its name, you'll notice that a %20 has replaced the space here as well. Change each instance of the %20 to a hyphen. Here's an example:
    <enc:CipherData>
                 <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro%20Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Change to:
    <enc:CipherData>
                <enc:CipherReference URI="OEBPS/Fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf"/>
    </enc:CipherData>
    Font Files:
    Within the EPUB package is a folder called "Fonts," where all the embedded fonts reside. You need to rename the files by replacing the spaces with hyphens.
    That's all there is to it. After editing and saving the files, you'll have to rearchive the package and change the .zip extension back to .epub. If you use Oxygen to edit the package, there is no rearchiving necessary. You can also use the free PDFXML Inspector, but I definitely prefer Oxygen since it provides many more tools and its not so clunky.

  • Adobe acrobat 8 won't install with Indesign and Dreamweaver CS4

    I have a client who I had to build a new computer for which is Windows XP Pro. On her original machine I had AA8, InDesign CS4, DreamWeaver CS4, Contribute CS5, Adobe Reader 9.3 and Adobe Photoshop 6. I have tried puting AA8 on the new machine that has all of the above on it and I get a response that I have a newer version of AA and it won't install. I don't have any AA on this machine so I'm not sure what to do. She says she can't edit PDFs or combine them and that she can't create a PDF ind Word and Xcel and edit them. Should I tell her to upgrade to AA9 so that it is compatible to the CS4/5 products?
    Thanks,

    Thank you Bill for replying.
    I have been able to install the disc but it tells me that I have to activate it with a time limit of 30 days and counting.  Activation fails each time I've tried.  As I'm nearing the end of the time limit I decided to contact Adobe for advice.  They gave me a download package and new serial number but it's only suitable for OS XP and Windows 2000 so I'm unable to download it.  I was told by the advisor if I still had problems to use the forum as a means of support so that's why I'm talking to people here.
    I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobate Pro 7, so I might try reinstalling the disc to see if it gives me another 30 days grace, that, at least, would be a way around it.
    I'll now follow the link you've given me.   Though I do suspect I'm in a bit of a cul de sac.
