10.6.3  -   still error 36 file copy errors

After getting a new mac with 10.6 I started having problems copying files, namely that copying aborts with error 36 quite frequently. I never had such problems on my old powermac with 10.3.9. After some reading here, I discovered this was a known 10.6 problem when copying to windows formatted disks.
Recently I let my mac upgrade itself to 10.6.3. One of the listed fixes was for file copies to windows servers. Unfortunately, I'm still getting error 36's. I have 2 ways that I transfer files which yield lots of error 36's :
First is with USB thumb drives formatted FAT32, for backup and taking files back and forth from home/office & pc/mac. I haven't yet experienced a problem with this in 10.6.3, but really I also haven't transferred many files this way yet, so can't say for sure whether the issue is fixed here or not.
Second way is uploading completed projects (mostly pdf's) to our corporate site via internet, doing a "connect to server" with afp://mycompanysite.com. I have no idea what server/software they are running with that, but I still get consistent error 36's when uploading files to it. If I make that afp connection with my ancient 10.3.9 powermac, I can transfer files all day without any errors, so...
obviously Apple still hasn't quite fixed the file transfer problem!!
Help, Apple, Help!!!!!

Thank you for your reply, Charles.
1. I thought that this thread was about Finder in 10.6.3 generating Error -36 errors when trying to copy files to an external drive, which is what I wrote about.
Yeah, but it appears that the OP had a different problem.
2. i know that I shouldn't have to force-eject DVD-RAMs; I mentioned that precisely because it is unusual. I was hoping that by raising all the problems that I noticed, maybe someone would recognize something that would lead to a solution.
If you have to force-eject discs, odds are that you have a problem directly related to that device.
3. Hardware problem is unlikely. The drive works fine in all respects with my older (17") iMac running OSX 10.4.11; the drive works fine with the new iMac running OSX 10.6.3, when copying any size file to or from a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk; the drive also works fine with the new iMac when copying small files (less than 1.4MB or so) to a DVD-RAM; the drive also works fine when copying any size file FROM a DVD-RAM. The error occurs ONLY when copying a file larger than about 1.4MB to a DVD-RAM. To me, the key point is that it works perfectly with 10.4.11, but not with 10.6.3. The only other difference is that with the old iMac I used the Firewire 400 port, and the new one is 800 (so I use a converter cable); but i don't think that would explain why there is no problem with DVD-R and DVD-RW, nor with small files, nor with copying from the drive to the iMac.
It would appear that there's a software problem somewhere which relates directly to that device. You need to check the drivers.
4. The mechanism is TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH - 5203N, firmware version LA00 (which is the latest). I have already contacted LaCie about this as well. They don't know why it doesn't work, either. But, on the other hand, they admitted that they do not know of anyone who does have 10.6.3 and IS able to copy larger files to a DVD-RAM. Do you?
Nope. Most people around here use DVD-Rs or DVD-RWs, not DVD-RAMs. I've not heard of that particular model DVD-RAM.
Thank you.

  • Documanage Error #2002 (File Copy Error)

    Hi,
I am getting this error "Documanage Error #2002 (File Copy Error)" during the Genarc process. I am not able to understand the problem. Can any one please let me know about this error.
Also is there documentation about documanage errors, please let me know.
    Thanks in Advace

Turn on your debugging options in Documaker INI and see what you get.
    < DBHandler:DMIA >
    DEBUG = YES
    < DBHandler:ODBC >
    Debug = YES
Also you may want to turn up your logging in the poffice.ini and check those logs as well. It's been a while since I've seen that but if I recall correctly this error usually happens when you are trying to archive a transaction from Genarc to Documanage and either the connection is broken or the document category doesn't match.

  • Escaping file copy error?

I was copying a data CD which had a bad file. When I hit the bad file, the message appeared "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "the source file" could not be read or writte. (Error code -36)".
When I click okay, the Copy message box remains, and clicking the X in that box to stop copying had no effect. I had to restart finder to escape. This is OS 10.5.4 on 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon Mac Pro. Thanks for any ideas. I couldn't find a bug report location in Apple Support.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there are no permission errors on the target disk or the system disk. The problem file is on a CD, and there's no way to repair permissions on a CD.
I think it's an OS bug that the copy dialog box won't cancel on a bad file copy error.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R File Copy errors loading Win XP Pro

While installing WinXP Pro SP 1 I get file copy failures on random files two or three times during  the install. Retry succeeds on the file, but errors keep coming up after install randomly. Explorer crashes on logon, files are corrupt, etc. Tried two different MBs, two different CPUs, two different PSUs, two different sets of RAM, different IDE cables, booting from both DVD Drives, different Win XP CDs. I also tried the same with a Gigabyte 875 board and had exactly the same problem. With the Gigabyte board, if I ran the bus with a setting of 190 or 195 instead of 200MHz, the system ran fine, but then my 2.8GHz CPU is running at 2.66GHz. I can't go slower than 200MHz (but I did try 201 and 202; same errors) on the Neo-FIS2R so I can't find a setting that is stable and that's the board I'd like to be running. Any ideas about what's causing all of these combinations from running stable at a stock setting of 2.8GHz?
    Thanks.

I am also having trouble with this on xp pro. When fully installed I get many random errors. New at this but have read that if you install a partition more than 137 gb data corruption may occur. So I partitioned the drive 20, 70, 70, and installed xp pro on the 20 gb partition. Per mb and hdd manuals I installed xp sp1. I am still getting random errors. This is the only hdd. Maxtor 160 gb ata 133 on ide1. Is it impossible to run the system this way? It gives me random crashes and stop requests. It also at one point gave me erros saying the cdrom memory is corrupt. • File copy errors

    Hi,
We are currently experiencing some failures with copying files (files
typically over 100mb in size) up to one of our file servers, and we're
hoping that someone has seen the problem or has some advice.
The server is an HP Proliant DL360 G5 (with two Broadcom Gigabit NICs)
running Novell Netware 6.5 with SP8. The typical CPU load is below 20%,
however packets per second is typically in the 50k-75k packets per
    second range during the day.
On Windows XP with Novell Client 4.91 SP5, we receive: "Cannot copy
<filename>: The specified network name is no longer available."
On Windows 7 with Novell Client 2 SP1 (IR8), we receive "Can't read from
    the source file or disk."
The symptoms are more typical when the traffic is higher on the server
and in areas with faster switch hardware. There is no consistency with
when (during the copy) we see the error and there seems to be no affect
on the server itself. Even though we have not seen errors on the
monitor's NIC stats, we have tried moving from one server NIC to the
other to see if it is somehow related to a NIC. The errors are
repeatable on both the server's internal drives as well as the connected
    SAN drives.
In addition, we have another server with almost the same configuration
(same hardware, SAN connection, OS version and patch level) that is not
having this problem at all. The main difference is that the load on
this 2nd server is very small compared to the server where we see the
    copy errors.
    Any info is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    ,Matt

    Hello,
please check the driver's version of the broadcom nics (BX2.LAN).The
were some versons causing issues (3.70, 4.41, 4.42) in the past look
whether version 5.01 is loaded on the server and check whether you team
the nics with broadcom teaming software or the netware built-in. MAybe
you should also check the ports of the network switch for connection
options (Speed/Duplex settings being auto/auto or 1G/full). Also the
firmware of the server (BIOS, NICs etc.) should be checked, you can find
updates on the website of HP:

  • ISE Upgrade File Copy Error

According to the Upgrade Guidelines for 1.2:
Copy the upgrade bundle to the local disk using the copy command from the Cisco ISE CLI: copyftp-filepath ise-upgradebundle-1.1.x-to-1.2.0.899.i386.tar.gz disk:/   Again, after you copy the upgrade bundle to the local disk, check to  ensure that the size of the upgrade bundle in your local disk is the  same as it is in the repository. Use the dir command to verify the size of the upgrade bundle in the local disk.
When I attempt to run this command, I keep getting the error:
"% long command detected at '^' marker"
    using the following command:
    " copy repository FTPDPZ ise-patchbundle-1.2.0.899-1-82500.x86_64.tar.gz"
I have also tried to replace the repository + name with an IP address, with just the repository name, and with 100 other things.
I tried to look up what a "long command" is, but I come up with nothing.
What is the proper verbage to utilize this command?

    David,
It figures, doesn't it?  No worries.  The repository system is a confusing one, but it is what we have.  I have found detailed instructions on using it, but they are for the Cisco Prime LMS product.  The process is the same (I used these unstructions when doing my ISE 1.2 Upgrade), just substitute file names as necessary.
Step 1 Log into the shell and navigate to the location where the upgrade file, lms4_2_3_lnx_k9.zip is stored.
    myhost/admin# shell
    starting shell...
    [myhost/ root-ade ~]
Note The  login name that appears in the command prompt depends on the login name  entered by the user while installing LMS on VM Console.
Step 2 Unzip the lms4_2_3_lnx_k9.zip file to extract Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_3.tar.gz.
    [myhost/ root-ade myloc] unzip lms4_2_2_lnx_k9.zip
Step 3 Copy the Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_3.tar.gz to local disk partition of LMS 4.2.2 installed server (/localdisk).
Step 4 Log in with your credentials to the VM Console through Vsphere client.
Step 5 Create either a local or remote repository. A repository contains URL and credential details
    myhost/admin# configure terminal
    myhost/admin(config)# repository <>
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# url ?
Enter repository URL, including server and path info (Max Size - 80)
cdrom:  Local CD-ROM drive (read only)
    disk:   Local storage
ftp:    URL using a FTP server
http:   URL using a HTTP server (read only)
https:  URL using a HTTPS server (read only)
nfs:    URL using a NFS server
sftp:   URL using a SFTP server
tftp:   URL using a TFTP server
Step 6 Combine the URL to the repository that uses a local or remote storage.
    a. The following IOS CLI shows how to combine the URL to a repository that uses a local storage:
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# url disk:
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# exit
    myhost/admin(config)# exit
    myhost/admin# write mem
    Generating configuration...
    myhost/admin#
    b. The following IOS CLI shows how to combine the URL to a repository that uses an anonymous FTP server:
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# url ftp://<>
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# user <> password plain <>
    myhost/admin(config-Repository)# exit
    myhost/admin(config)# exit
    myhost/admin# write mem
    Generating configuration...
    myhost/admin#
You can use the above mentioned steps for other protocols.
Step 7 Run the below command in the VM console in VSphere client.
    myhost/admin# application upgrade Cisco_Prime_LAN_Management_Solution_4_2_3.tar.gz <>
Save the ADE-OS running configuration? (yes/no) [yes]?
Step 8 Press Enter to continue with LMS 4.2.3 upgrade.
An Application upgrade successful message appears.
Here is the doc that contains these instructions:

  • Alchemy File Copy Error

So I'm trying to copy files to my Stalker: Clear Sky folder in Alchemy but whenever I do it says unable to copy files to folder. How do I get this to work correctly? I'm running Windows 7 and have the newest version of alchemy. I was also wondering how do I know what to set buffers, duration, and maximum voice count to for games?

    Hi,
Stalker: Clear Sky is an OpenAL game. There is not a need for ALchemy. ALchemy is used primarily for DS3D and EAX based games. There is a profile database for a number of games in the latest version (dated st Aug 2008. It could be that the application objects have become corrupt, maybe a
DSrepair. Maybe the workstation lost rights to the directory. Maybe you
    are having licensing issues.
If it's a corrupt app object, you can export the app object, delete the
original object from eDirectory, and recreate the app object from the AXT
    you created in step 1.

I've checked the blob before I'we wrote it ito the file (UTL_FILE.put_raw(l_out_file, l_buffer, FALSE)), and it contains no carriage-return.

  • Database error, file damaged, error code: 3

    Hi,
I have what I believe is an InDesign CS3 file. InDesign CS4, 5, and 5.5 refuse to open it. When I try to open it in CS3, I get a database error, saying the file is damaged, error code: 3.
I'm sure the problem is with the file, not InDesign, since I've tried this on 2 Macs. CS3 quits before I can export to .idml.
I read some earlier threads concerning this error and I tried removing the Links, but that didn't help. I also read something about editing across a network but since this is not my file I don't know how it was created and edited in the past. I'm just looking for a solution.
    Anyone?
    Thanks,

Best bet is probably Markzware's recovery service, if the file is critical and would cost more than $200 to rebuild. Bad InDesign or Quark File Recovery Submission Form

My backend is only for admin, so they are the only ones who can access the

anyone from the outside plant a file in that folder if they just know where

  • JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0 Version Application wizard : File Backup Error

    hi
As shown in the scenario (sc1) screencast at http://screencast.com/t/GA7OcgYZ
the JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0 Version Application wizard can fail sometimes, showing a "File Backup Error" dialog, with the message
"Failed attempting to back up imported resource
    D:\screencast\VersionAppLockedIssueApp-v0.01\VersionAppLockedIssueApp\Model.
Check that there are no file system explorers viewing files in this location and that none of the files are open in other applications before resuming."
This even occurs when there are no other processes (like Windows Explorer or an editor) using/locking the file.
It should be possible to reproduce the behaviour using the example application
    at http://www.consideringred.com/files/oracle/2011/VersionAppLockedIssueApp-v0.01.zip
which is really nothing special I think, so it might also reproduce using another application.
First open the application and also open the file "browseEmployees.jsf" in design view.
After that, as it seems, the Version Application wizard fails.
Note that it might be relevant that I am using Windows 7, as I can imagine that this could behave differently when using JDeveloper on other operating systems.
Also note, if I try to ZIP the application folder (instead of using the Version Application wizard) after opening the file "browseEmployees.jsf" in design view, I get a message like "WARNING: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
    : D:\screencast\VersionAppLockedIssueApp-v0.01\VersionAppLockedIssueApp\.data\00000000\je.lck ",
as can be seen in the scenario (sc2) screencast at http://screencast.com/t/rFiL47Bil
As it seems that the Version Application wizard has managed to commit the source files, one workaround could be to checkout the source in another location and continue working there.
Other suggestions to avoid this issue, or deal with it, are welcome.
    questions:
    - (q1) Can this "File Backup Error" behaviour for the Version Application wizard be reproduced?
    - (q2) How can this "File Backup Error" behaviour for the Version Application wizard be explained?
    many thanks

Today I noticed that there is a My Oracle Support note about this:
    - note id 1353389.1 , "In JDeveloper11.1.2.0.0 the Version Application Wizard Failed with the Error: File Backup Error "
    Its "Solution" section currently says:
"The problem is still investigated by development.
But there is a possible workaround for Bug 12912410 by unchecking the checkbox 'Perform Checkout' in step 5 of 6 in the wizard screen. "

  • APPSET   (Errors in Copying AppShell)   --------AppSet without copying?

    Hi Folks;
I am creating a new APPSET, Obviouslly based in APPSHELL.
1.-  I get this ERROR in the Five Step:  (You know how solve it?)
    > Check Enviroment Information OK
    > Copy File   OK
    > Copy DataBase OK
    > Create OLAP Database OK
    > OLAP Connect ERROR,
Error message:OLAPConnect Error : File system error: The following file is corrupted: Physical file:
    ?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\ApShell_BPU.0.db\Entity.0.dim\1.Entity_H1_ID1.Entity_H1_ID1.dstore. Logical file .
Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the Entity dimension, from the file, '
    ?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\ApShell_BPU.0.db\Entity.1.dim.xml'.
Errors in the metadata manager. An error occurred when loading the Finance cube, from the file, '
    ?\C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Data\ApShell_BPU.0.db\Finance.2.cub.xml'.
2.- Is there some option to Create an APPSET without Copying APPSHELL as an option?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
It seems you have a problem with apshell.
You can not a copy a database which is corrupted or has issue (dimension wrong can not be process or cubes currupted which can not be process).
So I suggest first to check apshell if it is working properly and after that you will be able to copy the appset.
You can copy an appset not necessary from apshell if you have other appsets but if it is a fresh new installation then
you have just apshell and to create a new appset you can use just apshell.
If you are not able to copy the apshell when you have a fresh new installation or the installation was wrong or you need to see if apshell apset has all dimensions and cubes process.
    Kind Regards

  • Application can't use mutiple custom error files?

I have problems getting custom error files to work in a stand-alone application.
For different components of my program, I have different custom error files:
      Micro4-errors.txt
      Isabel-errors.txt
      Triggering-errors.txt
Running in the Labview ADE everything works fine.  But in the .EXE i get undefined errors for some of the error conditions.   It seems that only one of custom error file is being used, and the rest is ignored...
Does that sound familiar to someone?
Running Labview 8.5 on Windows XP.

I know what wrong now. Seems that the files are at the wrong location.    According to http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/6077DBEDA4F9FEE3862571F600449501  they should only be in either errors\ or user.lib\errors\.
Funny thing....   When I place them in errors\ it still doesn't work.   In the user.lib\errors\ directory, it does work.    So it seems that the documentation & application builder don't agree on that.
