10.6.4 AddressbookSync takes 1.6GB of real RAM!

Don't know why, after upgrading to 10.6.4, iPhone 3G upgraded to iOS4, iTunes upgraded to 9.2, whenever I try to sync the data on the iPhone to my Mac, it takes forever to finish.
After checking in Activity Monitor.app, it shows that AddressbookSync is taking up 1.6GB of real RAM! This is clearly a problem.
Does anyone have the same issue?

Update.... I cleaned up my address book. Searched for duplicates several times (it kept on finding more duplicates even after three tries), until it found none. Backed up address book. I reset the sync history. Went to user/library/application support. Highlighted the Address book folder. Condensed it. Removed the original Address Book folder. (This gave me a new address book clean of data). Forced sync it up to Mobileme to clear it out. Checked Mobileme to make sure it had no data in it. Went back to my address book and imported the data that was backed up. Forced sync'd it up to Mobileme. This seemed to have fixed it. Went to my other computers, made a clean address book and forced sync down from Mobileme to the other computers. No issues since then. My guess is that either data was corrupted in my address book, or that Mobileme had corrupted data in it. By getting rid of duplicates in my address book, cleaning out Mobileme and uploading a fresh copy of address book, this stopped the runaway CPU usage and huge virtual memory pages.

  • I have a late 2012 iMac and a late 2009 mac mini.  I want to know if I can take the 8 GB of ram from the iMac and install it in my mac mini.

I have a late 2012 iMac and a late 2009 mac mini.  I want to know if I can take the 8 GB of ram from the iMac and install it in my mac mini.
According to Cruicial my mac mini could use:
    Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-8500
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64
Also According to Cruical my iMac uses:
    Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    Package: 204-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR3 PC3-12800
    Specs: DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V
I want to increase the ram in both computers.
So,  can I put the iMac ram in my mac mini and then I'd only have to buy ram for my iMac?  Naturally the ulitmate test will be when I actually install it,  but having an expectation of success or failure will allow me to plan on what to spend money on.
    Thanks,
    Bear

Thanks for the responses.  I probably wont even try as my priority is Ram for the mac mini.  2 is not enough.  8 for my imac is okay for now.
Somewhere I thought I'd heard that faster Ram would simply clock at the lower speed.  It seems that I am incorrect.
    Thanks,
    Bear

  • WebLogic Workshop 10.3.  takes up 1.2GB of RAM

    Hi,
Does anybody know if there is any way to reduce the RAM usage by WebLogic Workshop 10.3. It takes up 1.2GB of RAM on my machine (no collaboration and other custom project).
Is there a way to reduce the memory usage by switching off something in Workshop?
    Regards,
    JT

    The issue has been resolved.
We should actually use setupNetPointRealm_wl92.sh instead of setupNetPointRealm.sh even for Weblogic 10.3 server.
Then, the weblogic server started properly.

  • Addressbooksync takes hours and eats memory, help!

Every time I sync my iPhone or iPad with iTunes, a program called addressbooksync is starting (I checked this in the Activity monitor) and starts to use all my 16 gb memory and after that even creating virtual memory on my drive. I assume this program is syncing my addressbook info but this can't be normal behavior. Here are some screenshots.
The itunes sync takes also a very long time while syncing the addressbook, this step takes about 1 hour:
The mac is getting very slow because of this and the only way out is the do a Quit Process on the AddressbookSync in the Monitor, but of course my addressbook will not be synced when doing this. Is there something I can do to fix this problem?

I am now having a variation of this problem in 10.7.5. It started when I went to System Prefs -> iCloud and turned on Sync. (Due to a Mac theft I have been running Contacts only via iCloud.com and my iOS stuff until today.)
Indeed, AddressBookSync eats up much RAM and then goes to Virtual memory and then comes back for more RAM. Everything stops working on the Mac. (It took me 1 hour to quit Mail, Safari and System Prefts, the only things running.) The only way I could post this was to Quit the Process in Activity Monitor, enabling me to uncheck the Sync. So I effectively have no Address Book/Contact app on my hard drive.
I'm posting this while I have the window of ability to do so.
    Not a happy camper.

  • Why does addressbooksync takes long and using really a lot of ram!?

When I sync the iPhone with iTunes and look at my activity monitor, it shows that it takes more and more ram to do this. After 5 minutes while sysncing the addressbook only, the amount of ram used is already 6.70 gb! Here a screenshot:
Why is this? It completely slows down my system.

It's not a memory leak, see the references to learn more about how RAM is utilized to speed up the Mac.

  • IPhone iOS 7 mail app takes 3.6gb memory off 12.9gb

This is dragging my iPhone really bad. How can I limit this Mail App to a much lower usage on my iPhone's memory. Nothing related to iCloud storage.
    Thanks!

I've given up trying to use flags on all Apple devices and computers. Its never been able to carry flags across iOS devices and Mac's and now mine won't even reflect in the flagged folder on my iPad what's flagged mail on the same iPad.  The Mail app is very basic and has become less and less useful with every update.

  • Firefox takes up 2.6 million RAM after just an hour...

    Hi,
I've had a problem for about a year now where Firefox takes up too much physical memory. Recently it's been getting so bad that my RAM (6GB) usage is at 95% or higher and the freezing and lagging from Firefox gets so bad that I can't even close the program properly...
I heard recent news that an add-on extension I had was to blame for this, and now that I've gotten rid of it, it should be better, right? Well, it isn't; and I even looked at my about:memory.
As it turns out: vsize, resident, private, and heap-mapped are taking up over 1000MB each.
Any way I can reduce this?
notes: I've already tried "Minimize memory usage". the browser crashed for ten minutes to do this and it went down by about 200k, but it was momentary. It's still building memory.

PS: I tried uploading a picture, but big surprise, it didn't show.
Here's the section from my about:memory scan a few hours ago.

  • CS4 The effect of 6GB not 12GB Ram

I am planning on buying a new computer for Video editing amongst other things I would like to know if Adobe Premier pro cs4 is likely to crash or stall from only having 6GB Ram available when editing 1280 x 720 MP4 files and compiling png image sequences into animations( a couple of thousand images ).
Will having 6GB rather than 12GB  mean that it will just take longer to render out to H264 or create a DVD or will it prevent me from rendering completly on occasion.
    Computer spec is..
    Motherboard Asus p6Tdeluxv2
    Processor Intel i7 920, D0 SLBEJ S1366, Bloomfield, 2.66 GHz overclocked to 3.8 GHz
    CPU cooler Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366RT 120mm
    Ram TR3X6G1600C8D -12GB (6x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600), 240 Pin, Non-ECC Un buffered CAS 8, DHX, XMP
    PSU 850W Corsair 850HX PSU
Graphics card 1GB ScanFX GTX 285
    Hard drive 2 x  1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB cache
    Windows 7 64bit
    Thanks for any info

I thought cs4 was available in 64bit version and would make use of 12GB of Ram if it was available if required
I will go for the third disc. Can I be sure that the system will then cope with the requirements of my video editing

  • Why does the Finder in Mountain Lion take over 50% of my RAM?

On a supported MacBook Air, Mountain Lion takes up over 50% of the available RAM accounding to every app and even the activity monitor. I only have enough RAM to open one app at a time. Open another and I've run out of memory and the entire Mac freezes up.
!0.6 and 10.7 didn't have this problem, only Mountain Lion does. Anyone else see this problem or have a solution?
    Thanks

    Kappy,
No, that made things worse. Now the MacBook Air is frozen completely in Safe Mode. I had to hold down the power button until I shut down hard. Bringing it back up in normal mode, now there's under 200M of RAM left, a fraction of what was available. I can't even open Safari, it keeps running out of memory.
Never had this problem with Snow Leopard and Lion. I opened the App Store where both versions of the operating system are and tried to load each. Neither one would load to let me downgrade. I paid for them, how come I can't use them?!
Apple's gone to **** since Steve Jobs passed away. I've been a Loyal Apple user for 8 years now and ever since Jobs' passed away, nothing is working right with the latest upgrades. I'm ready to install Ubuntu on every Mac in the house.

  • Can PS CS 6 take advantage of a high RAM system

Hi. I am thinking of investing in a workstation desktop built from oem components (since the components are quite cheap now). I have confgured a system on paper that has:
    Core i7.
    Dual NVIDIA video cards
    32 GB of DDR3
    Win 7 64 bit
There is a lot of discussion on some computer building forums as to whether programs like CS 6 can take advantage of such large amounts of RAM. I myself have 8 GB of RAM on a Mac and notice that the kinds of images that I open cause CS6 to max out on whatever RAM it can take up (causing it to use swap space), causing operations like nudge and healing to take some time. Can CS6 take advantage of such vast amounts of memory and also the dual NVIDIA cards with Open CL?

    >> and also the dual NVIDIA cards with Open CL?
2 cards, no, due to driver issues.
SLI/multicard connections - no, those are intended for gaming acceleration only.
A single card with multiple GPUs, yes.

  • Premiere Elements 8 doesn't take advantage of all my RAM

Hi, I'm running Premiere Elements 8 on a Windows 7 machine with 8 GB of RAM. Elements usually runs fine when editing standard-definition video, but slows down badly with HD. But when I check the system processes, I see that Elements never uses more than 1 GB of RAM--even when it's really working hard. It's like there's some setting that is keeping it from using any more than that. How can I force Elements to take advantage of the rest of my available memory?
    Thanks.

That would be right, Gavin. Premiere Elements is a 32-bit app and will only use, at most, about 2 gig of RAM.

  • Kernal_task takes me lot's of RAM

    Hi all
    I own a MacBook Air mid-2013 13" 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM.
I recently noticed that the 'kernal_task' takes me lot of RAM (700 MB)...
I would like to know what is 'kernal_task' and why does it takes me so much of my RAM?
    Thanks,
    Itay

Kernel_task is, as the name suggests, a fairly low-level and fundamental part of the OS. The kernel is the heart of the OS.
Mavericks is designed to use as much of your RAM as possible. Having loads of free RAM is not necessarily a Good Thing™.
There are advantanges to having a large kernel_task process. Mine is usually well over 1GB. The process includes some file caching, for instance.
In short: this is not a problem. Get on with your work.

  • Can the current 21.5" iMac(MC309LL/A) take 16 Gg's of Ram?

I just bought a rrefurbished 21.5" iMac(MC309LL/A).  I want to upgrade the ram to 16 Gg's.  The specs on Apple's site state it can only go to 8 Gg's of ram but Macmall and the specs on Amazon state it can be upgraded to 16 Ggs.  Can anyone give me a definitive answer?  Thanks in advance for the help.

In here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423#1 Apple says the 21.5 iMac can take 16GB (4 x 4GB modules).
    And EveryMac http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/index-imac.html confirms this.
The exception seems to be the late 2011 iMac http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/stats/imac-core-i3-3.1-21-inch-alumin um-late-2011-education-specs.html which sems to be capped at 8GB.

  • Why does Logic take SO LONG to dump ram???

I have a template that has hundreds of tracks with Kontakt 4.1. When I first open Logic and my template, everything loads great - it only takes about 45 seconds or so to open my template.
HOWEVER, when I close that project, and then open a fresh template, Logic take upwards of 10 minutes, even if it's the template with the same samples, or EVEN an empty template!!!
Quitting Logic has the same problem, from the time I quit Logic to the time it actually closes can be upwards of 10 minutes.
This has made me use "force quit" as part of my normal work flow.
Does anyone know a way around this???

This is a problem that started with the Kontakt 4.1 update. NI and Apple are working on a fix...
