10.6.4 horrible update (slow boot) Any Fixes?

Avoid 10.6.4 and/or latest java update (6.2 i think).
my reason:
slooooow bootup.
10.6.3: ~15-30sec
10.6.4: ~100-130 sec (80 sec for apple logo followed by 20-30 sec with blue screen + rainbow ball and background image +20-30 sec for startups and network connections)
I'm really sure it's the OS X update. similar things happened b4 with some of the 10.5.x updates.
This update beats the purpose of snow leopard's fast boot ups (which I loved sooooooo much)
Are there any fixes I'm not aware of? I tried booting into safe mode and then restarting. Did not help one bit.

In addition to the other suggestions, check the folders /System/Library/StartupItems & /Library/StartupItems for any items. They are normally empty so anything in them is possibly responsible for a longer boot time.
If you have automatic login enabled, temporarily disable it (System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options) to see if part of the problem is with your user account or all of it is in the system domain.
You can use Intel-based Mac: Startup sequence and error codes, symbols to get an idea of what each part of the startup process is doing. From your description, it appears that most of the delay is during the loading & initialization of the kernel. This could indicate damaged or incompatible kernel extensions.

It's important that you have a steady WiFi connection, ZealousEdge. What phone do you have? Is your phone unable to connect to any WiFi network? If you can, please try deleting the saved WiFi network and re-adding it.

    >Any fixes?
Don't use WiFi for streaming video.  It is even worse for AirPlay since you are using bandwidth twice as it sends data from the iOS device to the router and then from the router to ATV.  Use an wired connection to go to ATV.   Even the high end consumer grade WiFi equitment is not great at doing streaming video.

  • Slow BOOT [Possible fix]

I sufferd from slow and long boot times with XP.
I ran BootVis and it said, after 12 seconds it starts to Prefetch and load a Driver (it just said Driver, no specification).
The loading time was over a minute, around 1.20 min, this driver used all of the CPU during this time according to BootVis
I thought it was my graphic drivers, since i recalled it started after i installed its driver, so i messed around with it but it didnt help.
Anyway, today i checked by MSI site to see if there where any driver update, and it was.
It was a new driver for my built-in soundcard RealTek.
I had the A3.87 and the ver:A3.88 was released, when i checked out the ReadMe and DriverHistory it said that with this version one of the fix was   - : 3. Fix delay issue in starting Windows.
So you who suffer from slow boot and have the RealTek soundcard, get this update.
Might not be the soloution to all the slow-boot issues people having here, but it might help some.
EDIT: I might add that it helped me, boot time down to 10-15 sec or something, didnt clock it lol, but its way faster then before :D

    Thanks for the advice!

  • Downloading movie is slow. Any fix?

I purchased the movie Troy just now. It says that there is 4 hours remaining. This is the first movie I buy and the whole reason I purchased it was to watch it now(the DVD store is closed).
How can it take 4 hours? Thats longer than the movie! Is this possible to fix?
I am downloading it from the piratebay right now and it will be done in 10 minutes! (I don´t usually do that, but I´m not feeling guilty since I already bought it). If this is how it usually works, this was the last time I buy on itunes. But I hope this can be fixed.

Moves are very large files.  I downloaded one in standared definition and it took about 2 hours.  If yours was a HD movie it could take even longer.  If you go to http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ you can test your internet speed. Mine is about 20mbps. My guess is its just a slow internet conection. Hope that helps.

  • Slow boot on Vista Home Premium - Satellite U400-15b

    Hi,
I have just bought Satellite U400-15b and am finding it takes a very long time for Vista to boot up, I have gone into msconfig and disabled the things that I am not using and stuff I think that is not necessary, but still having to wait ages before I can use the laptop. I have enough RAM and processor speed so I dont think the specs of the laptop are a problem
Is there anything that can be done about this slow boot, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello
In my opinion slow boot-up or slow notebook operations depends on right OS configuration. I played with this last months and I am now satisfied how Vista boots and runs on my notebook.
I wrote about it in one another thread and if you have some time have a look under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947
Please let me know what do you think about all this.

  • Slow Boot after 10.4.3 Update

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a really slow boot time after updating to 10.4.3.
This only effects my Dual 2.3 G5, the iMac G5 boots as normal.
It seems to hang for at least 2 minutes on the grey screen before completing the boot and launching the login window.
I booted in verbose mode <apple> V , to see where it seems to be hanging and this is what is on screen at the time:

    Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: UniNEnet: Ethernet address 00:11:24:86:33:46
Then after almost 2 minutes it moves on with the rest:

    Hi,
    I have the same problem. My iMac also hangs for about one minute at the same place;
"Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: IPv6 packet filtering initialized, default to accept, logging disabled
    Nov 23 16:07:04 localhost kernel[0]: UniNEnet: Ethernet address 00:11:24:86:33:46"
but with a different MAC address ofcourse.
I 've run the maintenance scripts and repaired permissions using Onyx but it did no difference.
    Any other ideas?

  • Slow boot time since updating OS 6 minutes aprox

I've owned my Macbook Pro since new and it came factory installed with OSX 10.4
I decided to update to Leopard and used the 10.5.6 disc formatted the hard drive fresh and after installing boot time was around 6 minutes. I tried everything, updating OS, reseting pram all sorts but still slow boot up.
Then i thought maybe updating to Snow Leopard may resolve this issue but unfortunately still the same problem 6 minutes to boot!
I don't know a lot about the console but i rebooted at 20.12 pm and here is the report:
I noticed at 20.13 some weird happenings with the internal apple modem i hope somebody can shed some light on it.
Also between 20.14 and 20.18 'Timeout waiting for IOKit to be quiet ' 4 minute pause??? whats that because of?

And installing Snow Leopard over such an installation unless erase and installed would not solve any problems. If you install 10.5.6 over 10.4, you must use
the 10.5 disc that looks like * and does not say update or dropin on it. Similarly if you erase and install 10.6 on
a machine that came with 10.5.8 or earlier, you must use this disc * that does not say Update or DropIn on it, unless it was
released during the up-to-date program period in the couple weeks before August 28, 2009.

  • BIOS update results in slower boot up time

I have an HP dv5 laptop running Vista x64 SP2 with an Intel duo core 2.53GHz CPU with 4Gb of RAM. The BIOS was version F09A up until yesterday, when I happened to notice that the latest BIOS available is F21A. I checked the prior BIOS updates and noticed that F16A had an update for supporting SP2. I had already updated my system with SP2 earlier this year and didn't notice any issues, but I figured I should do this anyway. I flashed my BIOS with F21A.
The update worked fine. However, I noticed my cold start up time to be considerably longer, perhaps 25-50% longer. So, rather than continuing with this I rolled back to the 2nd latest firmware that noted SP2 support, version F16A. Still, I have the same kind of sluggish start-up.
I don't really understand why this is happening. Is it normal for BIOS revisions to affect boot up times like this? I'm wondering if I should just roll back to F09A... but now I'm worried that this may trip something up, going backwards like this.  Everything was generally working well before this...
    Any advice?

    Any ideas on this?
I'm definitely noticing a slower boot up time after upgrading my BIOS. Is it OK to roll back to the previous BIOS I was using? Is it a 100% fresh "reset", or is it possible it may not be completely as before?

  • Slow boot time after system update

    Hello
I had a system update a couple of days ago and since then I've noticed a slower boot time and my toolbar/applications hang for a while. It never used to do this before the update.
    Any ideas?
    I'm on a Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8.

Download the free OnyX for OS X over at MacUpdate.com and run all the initial checks, (stop, backup and report if there is a warning) mainatinance and cleaning aspects (keep the log files) and reboot at the end (must)
That should give your machine a nice enema and hopefuly clear up the problem.

  • Slow Booting time after installing MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 on 13 Inches Mac 2010 model

I'm experiencing a slow boot time after my computer installed a MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.0 itself on 13 Inches 2010 model, how to downgrade or fix it?
My computer is starting 2 times slower then it should be, why Apple done this to me?
Please help who really know somthing about Macs.

I have the same problem, especially when I open my laptop from sleep.  It takes at least 2 minutes for the computer Internet connection to work.
Never had that problem prior to the last firmware update 2.7.
Is there a way to revert back to 2.6?

  • TS3274 after updating my ipad with ios7, the keyboard is really slow. Any suggestions how to fix it?

after I updated my iPad mini to ios7, the keyboard has been slow. Any ideas how to fix it? I tried restarting it already. Also, how do you clear apps now? I pushed the home button twice to bring up the apps, but I don't know how to delete them. I tried holding the app down to make it shake but that doesn't work anymore.

To clear apps swipe up on the app. You might want to try resetting all setting it has helped some. Also try setting>general>accessibility>increase contrast turning this on reduces a couple animations which some say shows an increase in speed.

  • Slow boot after updating to 10.7.2

    Hi there,
Since updating from SL to Lion, I have noticed a slower boot up than usual, but now even more so since updating to 10.7.2. Furthermore once it is at the login screen, it fails to find the bluetooth magic mouse meaning I have to switch it off and on for it to be recognized. Once the mouse connects, there are no further issues with bluetooth.
Is there a way for me to check what is being used during startup, or some way to edit the startup process?
    Mac is a 24" 2008 model, Core 2 Extreme with 4GB RAM.

    Hello:
I don't know about the "slow," but try this for the mouse problem:
Trash a preference file (com.apple.bluetooth.plist) and restart.
    Reset the PRAM and SMC
    Make the mouse a favorite

  • Even after the Mavericks Mac Mail update and showing my "All Mail" folder, Mail.app is still acting weird and slow.  Any further suggestions?

Even with the recent Mac Mail Mavericks update and showing my "All Mail" Gmail folder, Mail.app is still acting funky and slow.  Any further suggestions for getting Mail.app back to it's pre-Mavericks state?

Your description of the problem is rather vague, but I'll take a guess at what you mean.
Quit Mail if it's running. Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    sqlite3 L*/C*/*.mail/*/L*/*/*/C*.db vacuum; sqlite3 L*/M*/*/*/E*ex vacuum
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
You should see a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) appear below what you entered. If not, press return. You can then quit Terminal and relaunch Mail. Test.
Note: This procedure will have no effect unless you quit Mail when you begin.
