10.6.4 Update broke my internet access

I'm using a MB Pro and since I upgraded to 10.6.4 using Software Update this morning I haven't had any internet access at all.
I've done all the usual stuff:
- Repaired all permissions
- Installed the Full Combo update
- Tried both ethernet and Airport to connect
- Tried restarting my machine
- Set up new network location
- Restarted my BT Home Hub 2.0 network.
Bizarrely, I am able to browse my local network and even access files on my MacPro.
Nothing works.
Yet my Mac Pro using 10.5.8 is browsing the net flawlessly.
This is the worst experience I've ever had with an upgrade/update. As MB Pro is my work machine this is a real problem.
Any ideas?

Dear All
I wish to thank everyone (and others) for their feedback on this (and other posts on this topic) as my wife and I were also afflicted at the home office.
*My situation was also very curious*. Two macbook pros (MBpro) updated to 10.6.4 were not able to connect to the internet following the upgrade, however on the same home/office networking system, the one iMAc that *did not upgrade* was able to continue to work flawlessly. The 10.6.4 machines continued to work on our corporate exchange-based network without any problem.
I have some interesting observations from the home/office that might assist others:
*Scenario Home/Office:* Router D-Link 604+ connected by ethernet to two time capsules (TC). All hardware (MBPro x 3, Axiotron modbook, iphone x2, PS3, PSP etc) connected wirelessly to either of the TCs working flawlessly prior to upgrade.
*Situation post upgrade of 10.6.4 of macbook pros only:* iMac continued to work, macbook pros did not. They showed connection to TCs AND and active IP, but no traffic! No other signs of traffic at all through browsers or upload/download apps, *with the exception of skype* (very weird).
I could get MBpros to work using iMAC ethernet sharing (proxy hardwire- i.e. talking via 10.6.3). But I could NOT get MBPros to work with ethernet to either TC or D-Link directly (also very weird)- i.e. *NOT just a wireless problem, but a potential 'protocol' talking issue*
For MBPros I tried the following WITHOUT success:
Hard reset (power-down for 60mins) of all equipment (at numerous stages of the below)
IP reset from provider
Bypass TCs and direct wireless/hardwire to D-Link
Manual configuration of IP address (range) and router with/without DHCP
Deletion and soft re-installation of airport 'service' from network settings
Repaired permissions on wireless, altered security settings, renamed wireless network
MAC address enabling on/off
Delete system configuration folders
Backup from earlier Time Machine (prior to 10.6.4 upgrade)
Downgrade to 10.6.3
*My interpretation:* 10.6.4 changes the 'protocol' for IP traffic for select (but common) apps only with select (older?) routers and renders a working and apparently functional system with the inability to 'talk'.
(Curiously the 'change' cannot be re-instated with a downgrade of OSX and maybe related to user-specific settings/files that are not deleted during this process).
The consequence and presentation of the problem is also potentially specific for each Mac (as the 10.6.4 upgrade is specific for each hardware configuration) AND I believe is dependent on the make and model of the internet router (and/or possibly the configuration of the local network). At present this theory would fit most posts and observations I have read thus far.
*My solution:* Provider upgraded the router to Siemenns Gigaset SE567 and now everything works flawlessly in 10.6.4 (this was after false starting with an upgrade to another D-link model).
I hope this of use.
Regards

  • IPS Signature Updates with no Internet Access

    Hi all,
I've got a bit of an interesting dilemma that I'm hoping that someone could help with. I have two distinct networks: A "regular" network, along with a "secure" network. I've not been involved in the setup/configuration, but I've been handed some work to do now that has me puzzled.
The two networks are separated with a pair of ASA devices with IPS modules installed. User access to the secure side works by using Cisco VPN client, terminating on the ASA's, and once connected applications are delivered via Citrix. Management of the ASA's involves connecting via management VPN to the "external" ASA interface, connecting to a management server via Citrix and from there, management via MARS, ASDM & IME.
My issue is that I have been asked to configure auto-updates for the IPS modules. However, there is no internet access from the secure network. Servers on the secure side can request files, etc, from the regular side but there is no direct access can be initiated from the regular side back to the secure network. There are no ASA devices that are contactable/manageable from the regular side.
I've read that it's possible to somehow download updates from cisco.com via FTP or similar, but I fail to see how I can automate the process. What I originally thought to do was to install another copy of IME on the regular network, set up a dummy device and there on configure auto-updates, but unfortunately the IPS needs to be contactable for that to work.
Can anybody think of a solution that could make this work for me?

    Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for that, but the instructions in that document appear to be related to updating a sensor from an FTP server where the updates have already been copied to it.
I have searched and searched, but I'm unable to locate the relevant location to download the signatures direct via FTP/SCP. I have attempted to locate them on ftp.cisco.com, but with no luck.
    Regards,
    James

I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 4.2.6. I recently received an iPad with IOS5.1.1. I want to update my IOS on my phone but the computer I use is no longer hooked up to the Internet. What do I need to do? Also, does my iTunes need to be updated? It is whatever was available last July. Thank you for your time and courtesy!

To update your phone requires using the latest version of iTunes, on your computer, as well as Internet access. The update to iOS 5.0 or higher is an erase/restore deal, so you not only have to make sure all of the content, currently on your phone, is on your computer and accessible, you need to update iTunes first, have Internet access, then update your phone. There is no way around this fact. You could go to an Apple store or use another computer, but you run the risk of losing all of your data it you do that.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • "No Internet access" yellow icon on ThinkPad X230 after updating Intel PROSet wireless drivers

I have a ThinkPad X230 that began to display the yellow exclamation point icon for "No internet access" after I did a batch of updates.  It has an Intel Advanced-N 6205 wireless card and is updated to the newest BIOS.  I tried everything I could find on Google to try and fix the issue, and found no issues in these forums to users having an issue.  So after fighting with it for a day, I decided to wipe the system and reinstall Windows.
I loaded Windows 7 Enterprise X64 with SP1 and did not domain join the laptop, so it is totally untouched Windows.  and then installed the Intel wired networking drivers version 11.15.16.0, which were downloaded from Lenovo.  I then installed the Intel wireless network drivers version 15.03.1000.1637 which were also downloaded from Lenovo.  Everything is working fine at this point.  I then loaded TVSU 5.02.0011 to get all the other Lenovo software.  One of the updates offered was Intel wireless 15.6.1, so being careful, I selected only that update and installed it.  After a restart, the yellow icon is there, even though I haven't yet connected to any wireless network - it is in place for the wired connection too.  Uninstalling the 15.6.1 drivers would not make it go away.  Installing 15.03.1000.1637 again also doesn't make it go away.
A System Restore to revert to before the installation occurs does make the icon go away.
I did some more searching on Google and the Intel Community forums have a report of this same issue from a user on a Dell machine: http://communities.intel.com/thread/38498.  There is no solution posted as of yet.  I have posted my problem there now too.
Has anyone experienced this issue and is there any fix besides System Restore or a reformat if the new drivers get installed?  I expect the drivers made available via TVSU to be rock solid, this is why I follow what TVSU even if there are newer drivers from the manufacturer sometimes.
Myself I use a T420s with an Ultimate-N 6300 wirelss card, and the newest Intel drivers installed onto my machine without issue.  I also have a couple other X230 computers that I am pretty sure have the drivers as well already without problems.  So I am wondering if there is some sort of firmware issue with the particular wireless card, or something is causing the drivers to not install in the correct way.  Just my thoughts.
    Current: ThinkPad Tablet 2 | 64GB // ThinkPad T440s | i7-4600U | 12GB | 512GB SSD | FHD MT
    Previous: ThinkPad T420s // ThinkPad T410s

I deploy a lot of X230 laptops and have been dealing with this issue.  Since I cannot find any information about the cause and how to fix it I started looking more into it.  The "No internet access" yellow icon starts appearing after installing items from System Update.  So, with a new X230 I applied all Windows Update (which installed without issues) before going into System Update.  After doing the Critical and most of the Rcommended (don't care for Access Connections) I proceeded to the Optional updates which I installed one at a time.  When I installed the WiFi Driver for Intel cards 7(64), Version 15.6.1 and rebooted the system the yellow icon appeared with the "No internet connection" status.  Everything still works though, I can still connect to the internet.  Doing a driver rollback does not fix the problem.  I did a system restore from a restore point prior the last System Update and the yellow icon went away.  finished the rest of the Optional updates except the WiFi driver and all is well.  This is what I did and went through, not sure if it will be the same for everybody.  But Lenovo needs to look into that driver version.

  • No internet access after 10.1 update

After downloading the 10.1 update to my Z10 my phone could not get Internet access through the network, although wifi still worked. Telus tech support had no idea what was wrong, and we found that the apn field in network settings was blank and could not be typed in manually. He said I might need to send my phone in for repairs. He called me back the next day to say this problem has come up for some people since the update and for a workaround to restore the phone to factory settings. However, if you turn your phone off the problem will come back so you can't turn off or restart your phone. I restored my phone and got Internet back over the network. Hopefully blackberry will have an update to fix this problem soon, I don't know how long I can go without having to turn off or restart my phone. Anyone else familiar with or experiencing this problem?

Hi man, I updated 3day ago my Z10 and I have the same problem I think. From time to time I get no internet connection by low or full mobile network. It has no reason, It´s just happened. Just like you wrote, reset or turning off/on the mobile helps not. But I don´t want reset my phone to factory default :-/ .
I hope Blackberry tech support works allready on this problem!!!
Come on Blackberry I need to work with my Z10 without problems!

Can anyone tell me how I keep everything I had in my old photoshop, now I've updated to Photoshop CC 2014.  It did give me the option to transport over all my presets, but because I didn't have internet access at the time, it couldn't do it.  Now I'm not getting the option.  Please help.

Migrating Presets does not require a network connection and you can still migrate your cc presets if you still have CC installed.  Use Photoshop menu Edit>Presets>Migrate Presets...  Migrating presets only migrates presets.  It does not migrate Plugins, settings, extensions and scripts.  CC 2014 is also not completely backwards compatible with CC.  Support for Flash Panels and Oil Painter filter have been removed.  So extensions like mini bridge no longer work in CC 2014

  • Lost internet access after 10.10.2 update

Since the OSX 10.10.2 update my iMac (late 2008) can't access the internet anymore.
    This is what happend:
Due to the incorrect installation of the OSX 10.10.2 update I had to reinstall OSX from the recovery disk. The installation went smoothly and OSX 10.10.2 is now installed.
    The Problem:
The system can't connect to the internet anymore. From my Wi-Fi router (Fritzbox) the iMac gets an IP address and it is also possible to access the routers GUI via web browser by entering the router IP. If i enter a www. address in my web browser (Firefox) i'm getting the message "no internet access". The same thing happens with other browsers or programs which want access on the Internet. But My MacBook and Windows PC can easily access on the internet, so i can exclude a problem with the router or modem.
Here's what I've tried, without success:
    - Disabled OSX firewall
    - Little Snitch deactivated
    - Disabled Avira Antivirus
    - Enter the IP address instead of www in your web browser
    - Hosts file in /private/etc deleted
    - Restarted the router, modem and iMac
    - Go through OSX Network Diagnostics
    - Reinstalled OSX 10.10.2 i
    - Little Snitch completely uninstalled
    - Connected the iMac directly to the router via LAN cable
    - Various alternative DNS server (Google, openDNS)
    - The DNS cache emptied via terminal command
    - deleted all preference files in Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration containing "wifi", "network", "nat", "preferences" and "airport"
All of these things didn't help at all and no web browser or other program is able to access the internet. Any ideas what to do further?

  • No internet access after 7.2.1 Firmware Update

I can not get internet access after performing this Firmware Update. I have a green light on my Airport Extreme, and in the System Preferences Network pane it states that I am connected to the internet via Airport. Has anyone else had this problem and been able to resolve it?
I have a cable modem and have reset it several times. I have also uploaded the firmware update again. I've tried to go back to the previous version of the firmware but it does not seem to be available anywhere, and does not show up as an option in the Airport Utility using Manual Set Up option.

I have the same problem. ATT DSL modem. Updated my firmware and lost all connectivity. If I bypass the AEBS, it works just fine. Also lost my Apple TV in iTunes after the update. Frustrating!
Let me know if you figure it out.

  • SCEP updates for servers without internet access

I have servers that are Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2 that CANNOT have internet access.  I pushed the CM client to them and the SCEP client but they cannot get the SCEP updates.  The error in the WindowsUpdate.log is:

    error 0x8024402c
I think the Windows Update Agent is trying to update from MS.
When I run RSOP.msc, I do see that the CM server is listed as the WSUS server and was updated in local group policy which is what the CM client is expected to do.
What do I do in a situation where the machine does not have internet access and I need to update the WU agent?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Make sure that Disable alternative sources is set to
Yes in the ConfigMgr client settings and make sure that in the antimalware policy

  • Why I cannot purchase or update apps for my new iPad all of a sudden? I have internet access.

When I tried to update apps they are stuck with "waiting..." and I cannot access those apps anymore. I have Internet access all this time.
What is going wrong, will I lose data for the apps.
Thanks for any help or insights.

Restart the iPad (hold the Home and Sleep buttons until the Apple logo appears.
This sometimes happens if the download of the updates gets interrupted.
If that doesn't work, downalod the updates via iTunes, and sync the iPad to iTunes.
In either case, you don't lose the app data

After an update to firefox I keep getting a warning from my Firewall (McAfee) "Program wants internet access". I have permission set at outgoing for firefox and updates checking off, to check that request is valid so what does it need access for

This was not a Firefox update, but a piece of malicious software you have inadvertently downloaded from a site called http://ffftp.co.cc/ which is impersonating Firefox. I discovered this as soon as my Zonealarm requested permission for "Golds" to access the internet. Golds??!! However I couldn't find a file with this name installed on my computer.
You should delete the file you downloaded and certainly do not allow internet access to any suspicious program. If you have already given permission, scan your PC immediately for any virus, malware, etc. Best of luck.

  • Complete wireless internet access failure:(

Ok everyone, here is the low down for the last month.
I use a 2005 ibook G4, access internet and email set up w/ Mac Mail thru my airport card and jump on wireless cafe that i live next 2. For 3 whole months, i was set up and running internet and email perfectly. I didn't change any setting, service, etc. Except the network from cafe (from linksys to RGII).
1st: as of 1/1, i lost my ability to send email thru Mac mail using wireless access (thru cafe). Error was "port 25 timed out". After spending 4 days with ISP, setting- resetting POP account and outgoing server, pinging port 25 to verify sent, scanning port 25 to verify, etc, etc, etc. This produced no resolution.
2nd: as of 1/21, I have lost complete internet access. I have run the network diagnostic to fix, no go...
SO, I took my ibook to the Genius bar at Apple store for a looksy. Sure enough some setting were off or changed, (by my own troubleshooting). After everything was checked and reset, all was A-OK (at the Store). I could access internet, received AND send email. Yippee!
NOW here is the tricky part... as soon as i got home and turned her on, I could see the airport finding networks (RGII), But when I try to access email or internet (thru Mac Mail, safari) it says my ibook is not connected to internet, same for email. I run the network diagnostic, and it can't fix problem.
When I go next door to see if the cafe is having router problems on there end...Nope everyone is accessing the internet just fine:(
This is NOT a problem with password etc, As the cafe is set up with authentication as NONE. Plus everyone there is able to use the wireless access.
So what do you propose is my problem? Remember this was all working fine for 3 months and started to fall apart this last month. In addition, to having eveything work just fine at the Apple store a mere 30mins before.
Could this be an issue with the RGII network i am jumping on?
Why would I be the only person effected and not everyone at the cafe?
ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   wireless access at cafes

Though it doesn't solve your issue, I thought I'd
share that I can access many non-Apple access points
(Cisco 1200's, Linksys WAP54G's for example) with OS
10.4.4. This being so, I think we're safe to assume
the issue is not related to a recent OS update.
I'm afraid I must disagree with this. Few months back, I lost my Airport connection when I installed the 10.4.3 System Update. Fixed by restoring from backup and going back to 10.4.3. Managed to upgrade to 10.4.4 successfully and maintain wireless connection to a Compex 802.11g base station. Then I made the mistake of accepting the Airport 2005-001 update. Immediately lost my Airport connection. Other PCs can connect to the base station, and I can access the internet by connecting my Powerbook to the router using Ethernet. Can even see the Airport network and login to the router's admin page over wireless. Only thing that doesn't work is connecting to the internet wirelessly.
Once I changed my base station to an older one I had lying around, I can connect wirelessly again and all seems well.
My conclusion is that Airport Update 2005-001 definitely broke compatibility between Airport Extreme and some 3rd party base stations. The irony is that this update was supposed to "improve" compatibility !
