10.6.4 Update Broke Wireless Scanning to my HP C4700 Photosmart all in one

I get an error "Trying to open scanner session..." when trying to scan wirelessly. Worked in 10.6.3.

Well if the old mac mini had the drivers installed on 10.5, and then upgraded to 10.6 those drivers may still work. Mean while the same driver installed on 10.6 may not. HP explains why here. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01863616
Have you checked to see if the scanner shows up in "image capture" or in "preview?" Some of HP scanner now work in 10.6 with no drivers at all. This is a lift of scanners/ printers that work out of the box with snow leopard via image capture / preview. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669
Some people say they've had success with http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=oj-74785-1 &lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=219&product=3192753
Also some drivers in development are not published but are excess-able by contacting HP support directly.
I hope that helps

  • I got my first Mac 2 weeks ago, a Macbook Pro. I can't get it to scan on my HP Laserjet1217 nfwMFP all in one. It prints (wirelessly) just fine. But when I try to scan, it says something like "no scanners available". Wireless or connected, it's the same.

I have not been able to get my new Macbook Pro to scan, either wirelessly or connected, with my HP Laserjet all in one M1217 nfwMFP printer. It prints wirelessly just fine, but if I try to scan, I get the message that no scanners are found. The guy in the Apple store had it scanning just fine with a new HP printer he took out of the box. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I would check with HP. Your scanner may need a firmware update and updated HP software. Start here:

  • HT1338 I have updated my new MacBook Pro for HP Photosmart All-in-One, but it still will not scan - it will print, but will not scan. How can I fix this?

I have installed the updates for my HP Photosmart All-in-One c309a.  It prints, but will not scan.  Tells me to update - I did that, but still won't scan.  Any suggestions to make the scanner work?
This all worked perfectly with my old 2008 MacBook Pro.

Have you tried scanning from Image Capture or Preview?
A current driver is shown to be available for Mavericks (auto-downloaded):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#HP
But many people have found that manufacturer scanning control software doesn't work. They have to use the Apple-provided software.

You need to make sure that the HP has an updated printer driver that works with 10.6 for that printer. You can check here:

trying to scan from hp officejet 150 mobile all in one to my computer. downloaded the full feature for my printer off hp website. push scan on printer and will not find program on my computer to scan to. help!!!

    Hi @Bryan1968,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are trying to scan with your HP Officejet 150 mobile to your Windows 7 computer. I am happy to help you with your scanning!
First, I would recommend to make sure you have downloaded, and installed the full feature software and drivers, from this website, HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver. It is possble, you might have accidentally installed the basic driver instead.
Then according to your printer's user guide, the scanning functionality will only with a USB cable connection from the printer to the computer. Please see page 43 of your printer's User Guide.
I would also visit this guide, How to Scan: Windows 7, as it will give you some alternate methods of scanning, even without HP software.
Hope this information is helpful, and have a great day!

  • Wireless configuration for HP OfficeJet 6500A plus All-In-One printer on Ubuntu 10.04

I have bought a HP OfficeJet 6500A plus All-In-One printer CN557A, which I want to use with ubuntu 10.04 64-bit as a wireless network printer.
Before i bought i checked compatibility on www.hplipopensource.org and www.openprinting.org, and all was in order.
The machine is autodetected and fully functional when connected with a usb cable, but i have not managed to get it to work as a wireless printer.
    This is what I did:
I configured the printer on the wireless network (through the printer interface), and it connects. It prints out a "Wireless Network Test Report", and everything works. I can ping to its local ip adress, and access it through the browser. HP eprint also works.
I installed hplip 3.11.10 and dependencies manually. I did this because the default hplip in ubuntu 10.04 did not recognise the device.
I ran 'hp-check', which gave no errors or warnings:

supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball
has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
    3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode

I then ran 'sudo hp-setup', chose the device (which was detected), chose my wireless network, entered the wireless security key. On the configuration results dialog I get two messages:
"Your printer has been succesfully configured on the wireless network. You may now unplug the USB cable"
    and
"The Ethernet cable is plugged in which will prevent you from connecting to a wireless network. To connect wirelessly, remove the cable and try again. (VSA000)"
There is no ethernet cable plugged in, so i can't remove it. I unplug the USB cable and click 'finish'. This makes the 'hp-setup'-dialog start over again, and the printer has not been installed.

A friendly soul on ubuntuforums pointed out to me, that the wireless configuration is only necessary when the printer is NOT connected to a (W)LAN. So all I really had to do was to configure the printer in the CUPS administation page, and it worked. Problem solved. Silly me.

  • Wireless Setup on HP Photosmart All in one (C309a) Printer

I have recently purchased a HP Photosmart Premium (c309a) All in one Printer and have had ongoing issues installing it with Wireless connectivity. The first of the problems are that while the printer itself initially detected the wireless router it drops this connection once in idle or on startup, and it does not automatically detect it the next time. Infact I have had to manualy input the SSID and WEP/WPA passphrase as it has more often than not been able to detect the router again by iteself. This is very painfull and a real turnoff. Secondly, when installing the provided SW the printer isn't detected when scanning for wireless devices and is not found when manually typing the SSID. This occurs even when the printer says it detects the router.
Troubleshooting - Where to start um.....ok I have done the obvious things - power cycle the printer, router and PC. No go. Also downloaded the latest SW from the HP website (as opposed to the CD provided) and resintalled  - No go. Also disabled start up programs in msconfig and added the required exceptions and ports to the Firewall and resintalled - no go. The only thing I haven't tried is manually configuring the IP Address, Subnet on the printers advanced settings and matching it on the PC-Printer settings. I found this process ridiculously time consuming and frustrating and would hate to think what the average user would do in this case. Hardly a simple user friendly process. I have since reverted to connect via ethernet just to get it operational (and before I throw it out the window) nevertheless would appreciate some assistance as the wireless feature was one of the reasons I bought it in the first place.

I am using a Motorola SBG900 Wirless Surfboard Gateway - supplied with Bigpond Cable. It is set to be using WPA security and have never had a problem with it before whilst connecting any wireless devices such as a laptop, PDA etc.
My feeling is that the wireless functionality of this printer needs some serious work before the next release. And furthermore they should never have released it the way it is as it wouldn't pass 5% of user acceptance tests if using wireless. There are too many complaints on this forum and others about similar problems to suggest that I am not by myself here. Dissapointing considering this is the feature that would be at the top of the list of most purchasing this model. It lets down what could of been a vg printer.
I agree, I think if I want to get this printer working on a wirless network, I will have to set the IP address manually. The problem is the printer refuses to connect to the router now even after it connected a few days ago with no intervention. I have powered down both the router, PC, and printer without any luck yet. I will set the IP address manually first on the printer and see how it goes, then if it connects will see if the PC/router can see the printer during the SW install procedure which has failed >10 times to date.
For now I think I will stick with Ethernet as it is no doubt much faster anyway and will try the wirless setup again in a few days when my patience grows back. Does anyone know differences in speed between USB/Wireless/Ethernet? I know this is dependant on a number of things but just interested in ball park figures here.

  • Scanning not working on 6525 eSeries all in one

I got a new 6525 series all in one printer couple of days back. Installed the same and worked fine for printing, both in connected mode (USB) and on wireless. But when it comes to scanning, it wont work.
From the front panel, tried the scan to email option. setup the email.. got the PIN etc and was ready to go.... but once started.... It would just say 'scanning' and wont go any further.... I cant cancel that and had to turn of the printer....
Thinking there could be a issue with scan to email from the front panel, tried doing scan to computer... while it recognizes the computer (both in USB and wireless mode), but again it wont scan...... then tried the other option to scan from the laptop too... .... (has Windows 8) . When I initiate scanning by hitting start scan... after few minutes it gives me a message the device might be busy scanning previous document. Wait for sometime to try again (not the exact verbatim)...
Installed the HP App for scanning, there too no luck.... it gives the message device busy....
Is there a issue with hardware and i need to call for replacement (have another couple of days window).... or issue with drivers which could be attempted to be solved ?
    Any help much appreciated...

    Hi MNC1972,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you cannot scan with your HP Photosmart 6525 from or to Windows 8. I am happy to help with this scanning issue!
    Please try the following:
Make sure the power cable of the printer is plugged directly into the wall outlet, not a surge-protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
Try to make a standalone copy, Copy Text or Mixed Documents, and let me know if it works or not.
If it can copy, then run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, on the laptop, and let me know what happens!
Hope to hear from you, and thank you for posting!

  • Can't setup wireless printing : HP4385 Photosmart All-In-One Printer / Linksys Router/Mac OS 10.5

I am attempting to set up my printer to operate wirelessly. I have the computer and printer connected via USB for the setup.
    I have :
PRINTER :  HP All In One Photosmart C4385
ROUTER :  Linksys wireless B   (WPA security)
COMPUTER :  Macbook Mac OS 10.5.8  notebook.
I've downloaded the correct HP software.
On the printer, the wireless radio is set to  "on"
PROBLEM : Using the HP Setup Assistant,  I select my Wi-Fi network, and get an error message " the selected Wi-Fi network is not within reach of the device"
The printer and router are in the same room with nothing blocking them.

Print a WIreless Network Test from the front of the printer.  It will self-test the printer's radio.
Can you give me the exact model number of your router?  If it is a 802.11b router, it may be time for a new one.  If it is, are you sure you are using WPA and not WEP?

  • Trying to make new scan shortcut in HP Deskjet 2544 All-in-One

    Good morning,
Because of a major computer crash I recently had to purchase a new computer and as a result I also had to buy a new Printer because my older Photosmart was not compatible with my new system.
I now am using a HP Pavilion 23-g017c  (x64) AMD A6-5200 APU w/Radeon HD Graphics, running Windows 8.1 and using IE 11 with Zone Alarm Firewall and Antivirus& Spyware.
My new printer is a HP Deskjet 2544 All-in-One.
I am trying to see if there is any way I can add a new shortcut to my scanning options which will enable me to scan a document to my computer besides the two options available now (PDF and TIF).
I would like to be able to scan directly into my Microsoft Office 2013 Word program if possible.
The reason being is because I find it easier to edit and then print from my Word program than a PDF program.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi @thefewtheproud
I have done some research, and it turns out you are not likely doing anything wrong. I downloaded the software for this printer, and it seems that the version 32 software has omitted the ability to save your document files as anything other than PDF or TIFF.
With the older software, the solution I posted above would have worked, but I feel like our software has taken a step back instead of forward. The only solution I can think of at this point is not ideal, but is doable. You could download a file converter, save your files as PDF then convert them.
I even tried saving a scan as a PDF, then opening it with different programs and saving it using 'Save As" and changing the file type there. I chose .txt , but then when I open it in Word or a text program, the formatting is lost.
Basically, the only think I can suggests is a conversion program. I am sorry I misinformed you in my first post, this was an oversight on my part, I forgot that the version 32 software was different from the older versions.

  • Photosmart all in one - not scanning to PDF

Our photosmart premium all in one fax, scanner printer no longer scans to PDF files.
It prints ok and we can scan to photo directly from the scanner to USB and from / to the PC.
It worked perfectly well before, then started to stop several pages into a multipage scan. Then halfway through 1st page - now won't scan at al to PDF.
Any ideas?   We have uninstalled and re-installed several times - no success.
