10.6.4 Update Completely Broke My MBP

So I just got done updating to 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2, watching my MBP to go through all the steps of downloading and logging out to install and beginning to restart, but guess what? It never restarted! It doesn't even get to the gray screen. I can hear the HD boot up, but the fans never start on the GPU or CPU. The "breathing" LED light on the front then slows to a creep and freezes, I assume because the stupid thing is cooking itself inside.

Either the hard drive died, or the internal power supply has gone the way of the dodo. Bad coincidence that it happened with your install, but hardware can fail at anytime without warning.
One way to verify the hard drive is OK, is to have a technician simply swap out the hard drive without doing any changes to it and see if it at least gets to the screen with the flashing ? folder.
If it doesn't then the problem is less likely to be the hard drive.
If it does appear to be the hard drive that won't let the machine boot, look at data recovery options after inputing the old hard drive in a 2.5" SATA Firewire hard drive case from http://www.macsales.com/

My iphone 3gs is not working properly, when switched on it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and more often than not just resets itself.

When switched on (Quite often it won't even turn on) it says 'Update Completed' as though it has just been updated. On the next screen it says to 'Connect to iTunes'. It doesn't, however, connect to iTunes and just resets itself over and over until power is gone. Occasionally after switching on and off a few times it functions normally for a few hours and some times even a couple of days but eventually always turns itself off and goes back to the 'Update Completed' screen. Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or a way of fixing it?

You can only add music to iTunes Match from your iTunes library on your computer, not from your iOS device. If you have music on your iPad that is not on your computer, you'll have to import it to your iTunes library on your computer to add it to iTunes Match.
Music purchased from the iTunes store can be imported directly to your iTunes library by authorizing your computer for the Apple ID(s) used to purchase the music (in Store>Authorize This Computer), then connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases. Music from other sources will require using 3rd party software to transfer to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

8.0.2 update completely wiped 5c

iOS 8 was working okay but 8.0.2 update completely reset my 5c. Did the update and when it rebooted it just said plug in to iTunes. Not only was phone completely wiped, iCloud backup was cleaned out too. Lost everything. Has anyone else run in to this?

I did that update last night and it was working during the day. Now it is frozen on the contacts page and nothing works, not even the shut down button. Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs. They do not fix yours. Note the older 16 GB 5G has only a front camera and the other 5Gs (16 GB released late last month and the 32 and 64 GB 5Gs have both front and back cameras)

How Software Update Server Broke Today...

So, in an ongoing series titled "How My Software Update Server Broke On Me Today," we come to today's episode:
SU server, after working flawlessly for 4 whole days straight, will now only push ONE new update out of the THREE new ones that came out yesterday to the clients. This was after last week's episode where we had to go into the Apple.sucatalog file, rename that, move it elsewhere and pray that it started working again (which it did for four whole days).
What will our hero do this week? My first suggestion to myself--stop using software update server and end the misery and pain once and for all.

All servers may be down from time to time, either for regular maintenance or because of various other problems.

Update / restore completely broke my ipod

i am having a very frustrating problem, i'll try to explain it as detailed as possible.
i did a 'restore' on my ipod. i did this because i rotate my music selection and restore is the most complete way to clean the slate.
so i clicked restore, and everything went well. but then i get a screen that says the following : "Your iPod has been restored to factory settings, and is restarting. Please leave the iPod connected and wait while it completes the restore process."
so i wait. and wait. and wait! more than a half and hour i waited. the ipod is not mounted onto the desktop at this point, i guess because it is "restarting". but on the ipod screen it says "Do not disconnect."
well i don't want to just unplug the ipod while it is connected so i shut down the computer and then unplug the ipod. then i try to turn the ipod on. after the initial apple image, i get one of those lovely grey error folders, with a link to the support page.
i plug the ipod back in and turn the computer on. the ipod mounts. when i open it in finder, there are no folders or any content in the ipod at all.
i open itunes, and the ipod connects there. i am able to drop songs onto it and play them through the ipod.
when i disconnect the ipod again, i have the same problem, the ipod does not start.
does anyone know a way to fix this? perhaps there is somewhere where i can find the appropriate folders / files and just drop them onto the ipod in finder? would that even help?
someone please help me!

I don't think the title of this thread is exactly correct. Restoring your iPod did not break your computer. The problem was you disconnected your iPod incorrectly. That corrupted the files on your iPod and even your computer. You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #61685 about The "Do Not Disconnect" Message and Knowledge Base Document #93492 explains How to Safely Disconnect the iPod.
You may also want to look at Knowledge Base Document #61003 on iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point when you turn it on.

Why did you do this? Rotate music selection? If you want to delete songs and playlists off your iPod I suggest looking at Knowledge Base Document #60940 explains How to Delete Songs and Playlists off Your iPod.

Latest Apple Updates broke my MBP

Installed latest Apple Updates on early MacBook Pro 13" and on rebooting I now have the grey screen of death with spinning logo. This has appeared in earlier support posts across the last two years, but I fail to see why a brand new system should hit this problem. Unfortunate that its my daughters computer and her install disc is 250 miles away. Have discovered that early Snow Leopard retail DVD is incompatible with newer Macs so cant even do a reinstall. This is not a quality design Apple!!
