10.6.5 install error (blue screen w/spinnig wheel)

I just tried to update mac os x through software update.
The macbook pro restarted ritght aay and then I when to lunch. About 1 hour later i came back and the only thing I see is a blue screen with the spinning wheel goin and going and going.. (not the beachball, but only the spinning wheel like the boot up one).
Not i am afraid to turn it off, should I wait?
I am not sure where it is in the instal process since i didnt look at it.
Any suggestions?
i need to do my mac mini after, I will not start until this one is up!

The blue screen/spinning wheel combo is what you see after the update's done and before your computer is fully done shutting down. If you don't hear hard drive activity, you're probably OK to shut it down, this can happen if a process fails to halt or something like that. Unfortunately if you've given it an hour, that's more than enough time to complete the update several times over, there's not much to do but shut it down and cross your fingers, though having had this happen to me more than once, you'll probably be a-ok.

You don't need to upgrade your software.  But if you're struggling with Spry, IMO you should cut your losses and switch to something better for the longrun.
If you have a budget to work with, I highly recommend Project Seven's Pop-Menu Magic 3.  It's easy to use in DW CS4, 5, 6 or CC.  More importantly, it's bullet proof and works in all devices.

If you don't have a budget to work with, you can roll your own menus with jQuery plugins.  A bit more effort on your part, but they perform better than Spry.

  • Error blue screen with KM2M Combo Board

The setup of my PC is:
    KM2M Combo L
    Athlon 2200+
    1x128 Mb DDR PC 2100
S3 graphics pro savage DDR (on board, currently 16M)

    Floppy drive
    Mouse, keyboard PS/2
    Windows XP Home version 2002
    The problem is this:
Once the operative system is installed, the pc works correctly. When the drivers on the board drivers cd are installed, the system crash often, especially playing a movie or running a game, and a error blue screen are shown.
Please somebody tell me how can I solve this fastidious problem, or at less, what the failure could be.
    Thanks a lot!

What brand of memory ? Perhaps 128 Mb. of memory is too poor, since your problems happens when playing videos or games. Borrow a 256 Mb. module and see wha happens.-  8)

  • Unmountable boot volume error blue screen

I have a toshibia laptop that has crashed, I am eventually getting the unmountable_boot_volume error blue screen, the recovery disks that i ordered will not work, just disk 1 loads windows file then goes to a black screen with the cursor pointer, computer repair does the same thing, os is windows 7 satellite c655d-s5120 64 bit the bios does show the hard drive name and the boot log is showing the last driver loaded is windows/system 32/drivers/atipcie.sys, can I order a recovery for the windows 7 or is there any other ideas to fix this?not sure why this is happening

If you've already ordered a set of recovery discs, you probably don't need to order another one. While it's possible that the discs are bad (and maybe you should call customer support just to see what they say), it's also possible that you have a hardware failure of some sort.

  • Blue screen and spinning wheel at startup

I had permission problems (locked time machine drive) so I did a full time machine restore.
Did the restart after the restore.
    Machine won't reboot.
I get 'bong', apple logo on grey screen as per normal.
Then blue screen and spinning wheel for approx 7 seconds
Then blue screen and black pointer for approx 2 seconds
The blue screen spinning wheel / black pointer repeats.
Also can't start up from Snow Leopard DVD.
I get exactly the same scenario.
I have held down the power key at got the tone.
    Still won't start.
    HELP!!!!!
It's an Imac (white one) 1.8Gig Dual with 1.5 gig of ram.
    Running Snow leopard.
I can see my disc over the ethernet; it is still there as it was sharing with my other machine.
Not sure if this helps me at all?
    Cheers

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
If you cannot boot from your installer DVD on the iMac, then you can try connecting to your other computer via Firewire cable and use Target Disk Mode to boot and install from the other computer - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 won't shut down. Blue screen with spinning wheel.

it's an 15 inch macbook pro. since I bought this computer was working fine about last year. Somehow, start of this year, the problem begins. Everytime when i opened microsoft word 2011 on mac or Photoshop cs5, and quit the software as normaly. When i try to shut down the blue screen with spinning wheel apears. this spining wheel is endless. But funny thing is that after use other software such as games, web browser (safari) etc. and quit them. when i shut down there was not a problem. only word 2011 for mac and adobe photoshop cs5. Any solutions?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Select "system.log" from the file list. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged during the time something abnormal was happening. That time might be before or after the boot.
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. If the problem is a system crash or freeze, post the messages from before the boot time, when the system was about to crash or was failing to shut down. In either case, please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning or the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
If the log doesn't go back far enough in time, scroll down in the Console file list to /private/var/log/system.log.0.bz2. Search that archived log, and if necessary the older ones below it, for the same information.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
    Do the same with kernel.log.
    Step 3
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Blue screen and spinning wheel at shutdown

since a few weeks my Mac mini won't shut down properly.
The blue screen with the spinning wheel does not go away.
Once I left the Mac on over night while shutting it down. In the morning there still was a blue screen and spinning wheel.
This happens not every time but more and more often.
I repaired the rights und checked the volume with the harddrive-tool (don't know the english name of that tool). No change.

Since last Friday (3/18), the exact same thing has been happening to me on a Mac mini (2010), only every time. I have searched and search since then and have not found a resolution online.
I have zapped the pram/vram, repaired permissions and verified disk in Disk Utility. I uninstalled the ONLY app that I added before the problem.....still no success.
When I boot up in Safe Mode, I can restart/shutdown. So at least it may not be a hardware issue.
Any ideas would be MUCH appreciated!

  • Critical error, blue screen stop error

after installing installation CD today, my laptop keeps going to a blue screen reporting a STOP error.... a critical error, but can't reslove. Have now removed the iTunes and it hasn't happened yet.
    Maybe a conflict, I don't know.
    Dell Inspirion Laptop   Windows XP

I found the answer !  Turns out it is/was not a Win7 problem, but a drive problem.
I was following some links on another Win7 forum and happened upon mention of SSD drives causing a BSOD.  The one in particular mentioned was a Crucial M4 SSD. It sounded familiar . . . I have one as my C: drive.  Turns out I needed a firmware
update. The update corrects a condition where an incorrect response to a SMART power-on counter will cause the m4 drive to become unresponsive after 5184 hours of Power-on time. The drive will recover after a power cycle, however, this failure will repeat
once per hour after reaching this point. 5184 hours is about 7.2 months. Just a bit under how long I've had this system.
I applied the update . . . . . computer has been running seven hours now.
Thanks to all who helped me here.
    Joe
    Wanted to add for reference:
The original post from Crucial acknowledging the issue.
    BSOD Crucial M4
The fix is as simple as updating the firmware, but the hoops to jump through for the firmware update to take place is a bit frustrating.
With my board, z68-v pro, it was necessary for me to go into the bios and change my controller mode to IDE. In addition I needed to remove the drive connected to the Marvell port and plug it into the Intel port as well as put my two ssd's on the first and
second Intel ports. Once this was done I was able to get past the 'finding drives' screen and update the firmware for both ssd's. Once the update finished I went back into the bios and changed the controller mode back to AHCI. As i said, a frustrating experience
but I commend Crucial for owning up to the issue rather than lead people to think their ssd's needed replacing or something was wrong with windows and subsequent unnecessary re-installs.

i have tried methods like , 1) un installing the anti virus (Quick Heal Total Security) and re installing again
2)Turning Firewall on and off. Because someon said that this could be a cause of Anti virus..
                                              3)Optiminzing the disk drives...
4)i have used a software called "Blue screen view".which shows all the daetails of blue screen errors

So, i have tried all the methods given online, but i didnt get any help from it.
So please help me . I am tired of all this
    *Sorry for poor english

Without the Minidump Files to help us isolate the cause of the errors you are experiencing there is no way to provide assistance specific to your situation.
One of the most common causes of errors are drivers. You have already mentioned that you have upgraded your graphics driver to the latest version provided by the manufacturer, updating other drivers like network, chipset, and storage controllers is a good
next step. If no driver updates resolve your issue and you have already looked into security software as a possible cause, another direction to take would be to review your hardware for possible failures. You can diagnose your memory by
entering “Diagnose your computer’s memory problems” at the start screen and selecting the result. You can also diagnose your storage devices by
right clicking the storage device in File Explorer, selecting properties, and selecting Error Checking.

  • Nv4_disp.dll errors blue screen of death photoshop cs4 bridge

Sometimes, when opening psd files from bridge in cs4 I am getting the Blue Screen of Death and a message stating the cause is nv4_disp.dll errors.   This started occurring a few days ago.
Environment: XP Pro, nvidia 7900 GS video card, nvidia driver version 6.14.11.9038. [ 190.38].
Anyone else experience this and has a solution?

I bet you'll sudennly get this error without doing that to cause it soon aswell. I had a very similar problem with BSoD and Nvidia display drivers on 9800GTX GPU. It started just doing it one day completely out of the blue. Unfortinatly, i'm still not sure what caused it, but it seemed when looking around the web that it was in fact faulty drivers, but not necisarily the graphics card drivers, just a conflict with them for somthing trying to work with them.
For me, i did everything under the sun and it worked.
    1. Get Spybot Search & Destroy, COMODO antivirus, Windows Live Onecare 30day free trial, and scan your system with each of them. Each one for me found soemthing new which was fairly unsettling.
    2. Re-install GPU drivers, re-install graphics tablet drivers if you have one, because that was thelast thing i had changed since i startd to get them, but it was a good few weeks afterwards, and it didn't fix it doing that anyway, but it may have helped somthing else work properly so just to be safe. Re-install anything you last installed, or remove it if you are willing.
    3. Disk defragment, Disk Cleanup, and run Clean Up Utilities. To help track down other problems, you can also download Regmon for windows made by microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896652.aspx you can see what your computer is douing in the registery. The other one to download is Filemon, which is the same thing but shows what your computer processes are doing. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx
Good luck, but presistence in not wanting to re-install windows will overcome it evertually

  • Windows 7 installation error (Blue Screen)

I recently installed Boot Camp on my Mac Pro so that I could install Windows 7 Ultimate. I followed all the instructions. Once I get to the part where Windows is installed my Mac Pro restarts and I get a blue screen with a bunch of errors. Then my Mac Pro restarts again and I am giving the "Windows was not shut down properly message" and asks me to choose a start up option. No matter what option I choose the same thing happens over and over. Can anyone help?

Apple doesn't support Windows 7 on our MacPro1,1. There is a llst of supported Mac of all things.
To use more than 1.9GB RAM you need 64-bit which won't boot from Windows 7 DVD.,
Okay, you want to put both on one hard drive; I don't. So you need BCA which is also semi crippled.
Lion: too early except to test drive.

  • After oracle install geting blue screen in server

we have two server & two powervault 220s we are using NEC 5800 eg servers operating system win 2003 if i install oracle 10g restarting time i got blue screen error why?

It's impossible to answer such a question, there a millions of reasons for a 'Blue Screen', which is an unexpected OS crash. You could narrow down possible reasons by comparing actual error codes with the codes on this website:
    http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms789396.aspx
Or you contact first Microsoft support (because it's an OS problem) and then Oracle.

  • Video Hardware Error Blue Screen

This started about a week ago, first day was July 23 when I first got the problem. I logged out of WoW and my computer blue screened saying a Video Hardware Error. I have had the error come up several times but without a blue screen of death but now again just maybe 15 minutes prior to me posting this I got the blue screen of death again when I log out of WoW. I don't know if it happens with other games, I don't play much else at the moment on the computer, I usually play other games from my consoles so I will try others on this comp over the next few days or so and see what happens but I have had this computer for 3-4 months now, I have had Windows Vista Ultimate x64 installed right since day 1 as well and I have not had this problem until recently and I don't know why. I can't update my video drivers as Nvidia says it won't allow me to update it can only be updated through my laptops manufacturer. I have a MacBook Pro 2.5Ghz, 4GB ram, 512MB GeForce 8600M. check if there is any upgraded driver version available. If you have the latest version, report to Sony. There is nothing you can do to fix a driver crash.
Is there any reason you are not using DirectShow? VFW was made for 16 bit Windows and you got a device that supports WDM, there is no real need to go through the VFW-to-WDM mapper which is for supporting existing VFW applications only.
