10.6.7 mbp + adobe acrobat 8

Question

I just purchased this computer yesterday, and was working in Adobe Acrobat 8 fine, but now when I launch an adobe document, I recieve
an error message saying
"AA8 Professional cannot be launched at this time.  You must launch at least one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional"
All I want to do is work in the adobe pdf, combine pdf's, etc.
Is there an update I need to do?  I went to the site - but can't figure out.

That is normally a message that you get if the copy of Acrobat you are using was installed as part of one of the Adobe Creative Suites. That's why it mentions "suite." It expects the other suite programs to be installed too. Are they missing?
If you just purchased the computer, did the owner give it to you without resetting it? Does it still have the programs they were using? Were you also sold the original installation disks of the software? They should have given those disks to you, because they should not provide software without also including the installers and a transferred license.
If everything is on the level, you should be able to insert the installer disk and try re-installing the suite to make sure all necessary programs are present. If you don't have the original disks, your copy may not be legal because both you and the original owner aren't supposed to be able to "own" the same copy of the software at the same time in different places.
The message wouldn't happen if you had bought Acrobat Professional as an independent product. The message only happens when Acrobat came with the suite.
