10.6.7 No longer powering off discreet GPU on 2011 Macbook Pro

Hello,
I installed 10.6.7 and even using the gfxcardstatus app I can't get the 6750M to power down. I even used appzapper and removed the gfxcardstatus app fully. Because of this I've gone from 6.5-7hrs surfing and email to 5. Has anyone else with a new Macbook Pro experienced the same thing? Even iStat pro reflects that the GPU is active.

Anyone?

  • My 2011 macbook pro shuts off all the time!

My 2011 macbook pro started shutting off with increasing frequency. It was very frustrating. I installed mavericks and now it seems to shut off about every 5 minutes! Only if I'm working, if it's streaming it seems fine. I think it would be impossible to actually get work done. I've read many others are having the same problem and taking theirs in for costly ineffective repairs. I can't afford to pay Apple to "chase it's tail".I may just go PC. Has anyone found out what the issue really is and how to fix it?

  • Why can I no longer import Mp4r files from my desktop (Macbook Pro) to iTunes??

Why can I no longer import Mp4r files from my desktop (Macbook Pro) into Itunes?  Seemed to work perfectly well before the latest upgrade.  Feeling quite annoyed, especially when all the forums seem to give the same advice, which no longer seems to work!!  Please can someone help!  Uploading a file should not be this difficult!!!

Make sure you have the Quicktime Player 7 installed.  It was an option when installing Lion.  Or you can get it here: QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later.  Install it, reboot and try again.

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • How do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • My Early 2011 Macbook Pro Continues to shut off at random

I own an early 2011 Macbook Pro, 4GB RAM, intel 3000 384mb graphics, 250gb SATA hd. I now have OS X 10.8.2 and my macbook randomly shuts off and its not just once or twice a day. It is more along the lines of over 20 times a day. Can somebody give me some advice to resolve this issue? I used mackeeper and ran every scan and I went to disk utility and repaired the drive. I don't know what else i could possibly do. This issue is making me wish i never bought this mac. The macbook is great and all but now i can't even use it because it shuts off at random. I can't enjoy the macbook if i have to use it in fear that it will shut off at any moment. Can someone please help me with this issue quickly?

If you have Apple Care or are still under warranty, give them a call and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.

Yes, you can and should. The DVD belong with the MBP. You should use the original DVD to erase the disk and install Snow Leopard prior to sale.
You can't sell it with Lion because it is authorized under your user ID.

  • HT3053 How long should I charged new battery in MacBook pro?

How long should I charged new battery in MacBook pro?

You can leave it plugged in all the time if you wish.
Once your Macbook is fully charged, it stops charging.
You can see this if you click on your apple logo, about this mac, more info, system report, power.
In any event, it is also a good idea to use your Macbook under it's own power to keep the battery in optimal condition.
As much as possible, try not to fully discharge your battery.  It could do more harm than good to your Macbook.
Good luck and enjoy your macbook

  • Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?

Anyone else having extra long delivery time for the late 2013 macbook pro 15" 2.6ghz 1tb model?
As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
    The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
    The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.
Benchmarks on PhotoShop comparing memory sizes:  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5659174?tstart=30
The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.
On other applications your mileage may vary.
    Application benchmarks:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/2059215/15-inch-retina-macbook-pro-review-a-tale -of-two-laptops.html
The low-end and high-end performed the about the same on non-graphics oriented applications.
    Graphics oriented benchmarks:
On the Cinebench OpenGL benchmark the high-end was about twice as fast.
On the Unigine Heaven Benchmark benchmark they ran at about the same speed.
On the Unigine Valley Benchmark benchmark the high-end was about 1.5x as fast.

  • Early 2011 MacBook Pro shutting off all by itself

Early 2011 MacBook Pro 11" shutting off all by itself recently.
I had the logic board replaced 11 months ago because it started to shut off more and more until it refused to boot up again.
Now I am going through the same problem. Is this common?

    OK, in that case:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion will not solve the problem.

  • HT5639 why can i no longer install windows 8 on my 2011 macbook (dual core).

I just recently had to clean off my macbook and reinstall everything. I was successfully running Windows 8 in boot camp. However, when the new bootcamp 5 came it it is telling me that I cannot install Windows 8. I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (dual core)
Why? It ran great before!!! Why all of the sudden are you stopping me?!?!?

I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011, and have upgraded to OS X 10.8.3.  I attempted to install Windows 8 via the "Boot Camp Assistant" utility application, and received the "Your Mac only supports Windows 7" message when attempting to "download the latest Window support software from Apple."
According to this Apple support article, the early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro should be capable of running Windows 8 (64-bit) with Boot Camp 5: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634
Apparently this is a glitch in the Boot Camp Assistant, as I've read of it affecting even newer MacBooks.  With the "Your Mac only supports Windows 7" message, I was uncertain that Boot Camp Assistant would download the correct set of drivers for use with Windows 8.  Instead I went to this page:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638  and downloaded the Boot Camp Support Software there.  I followed the directions to copy the contents of the downloaded .zip file to the USB flash drive.  Then I used Boot Camp Assistant to install Windows 8 after deselecting the "Download the latest Window support software from Apple" option.  After Windows 8 was installed and opened then I opened the Boot Camp folder on the USB drive and double clicked on "setup.exe".  Windows 8 has since performed flawlessly on my MacBook Pro, so I believe this to be a suitable work around.  Hopefully Apple will soon correct the flaw in the Boot Camp Assistant.

  • How do I completely turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro?

I am at a loss. I've seen dozens of people complain about this, but I'm still hoping there's a solution: How do I turn off font smoothing on my MacBook pro? I've toggled the anti-aliasing options every which way, and no matter what I do, the text is always slightly blurry (there's always a slight halo of grey around the characters to smooth them out). This would be the perfect computer if I could just turn that dang feature off completely, but as it is it's so hard on my eyes I can't use it for reading or writing for any extended period.

DigiLloyd posted some aditional info on this subject, here:
"Apple abandoned useful font smoothing user interface support in Mac OS X Leopard for a “moron setting” in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, leaving those with non-Apple displays high and dry with unattractive text display.
You’ll need to use Terminal to set things right (or at least better, which is not to say optimal)."

  • 2011 Macbook Pro powers off - need advice

    Hi there
I have a macbook pro that switches off randomly (happens sometimes when i move/transport it), and sometimes it only turns on when plugged in. When not plugged in and i press the power button to switch on i can hear the machine running for about 2-3 sec and then shuts off again. I also noticed that if i reset my SMC (holding down Cmd, option, shift and power) it does switch on usually without the need of it being plugged in -  however the date and time needs to be set everytime and Im sure there is a better way than resetting my SMC every time my MacBook decides its time to die on me again. I am guessing the fault lies with a faulty motherboard or battery but im not sure. Im about to open my MacBook for the first time yet Id like to avoid it if I can.
I doubt its a software issue although I have installed bootcamp and played a few games here and there that might have caused the machine to become quite hot.
Has anybody experienced this before or have any advice on this?
    Regards

  • Bluetooth tethering no longer working - iPhone 3GS (iOS4.1) and Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
I don't understand why this is not working anymore. In the past I had successfully paired & used a bluetooth tethered connection between my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.6.4) & my iPhone 3GS (pre 4.1). The network connection was working and I was able to surf the web/use MSN etc. This is not a feature I have used in quite some time and for some reason now it is not working. I have done several upgrades on my phone since I last used it, currently on iOS 4.1.
Lets pretend I am starting from scratch and my Macbook & iPhone do not know each other, devices have been forgotten on both.
    - iPhone & Macbook both are on & discoverable
    - On Macbook Pro I select "Set Up Bluetooth Device"
    - Macbook scans and detects my iPhone, I select "Continue"
    - Macbook connects with iPhone & displays 6 digit pin, also pairing notification is shown on iPhone with the same 6 digit pin
    - I select "Continue" on Macbook & "Pair" on iPhone
    - Connection is made, iPhone is now listed on Macbook and vice versa
    - From bluetooth menu (on Macbook) in the iPhone device menu I select "Connect to Network". Error is displayed on Macbook "The bluetooth network is unavailable. There was a problem connecting to your device..." & on my iPhone an error "Connection Unsuccessful. Make sure iPhone is turned on and in range".
    - When I try to connect from the iPhone an error is displayed "Connection Unsuccessful. iPhone is not supported" with a button to Forget Device.
    What... the ****?
This has worked in the past without a hitch. Has something changed between say iOS 3.x and 4.1 that might cause this to no longer work for me.
    Any protips are greatly appreciated!

Don't feel like a noob, my settings changed after the last update without warning and I was having the same issue as you until I found your post that alerted me to the fact that my internet tethering might be off!
So for others out there that are having this issue to turn tethering on go to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering > On
Thank you!! I had already wasted over an hour repeatedly syncing and unsyncing my darn bluetooth connection.
