10.6.7 Update No sound 5 mins to boot!

Updated from 10.6.6 to 10.6.7 last week and lost sound.
There's now no input or output options in the sound control panel and the Mute checkbox is greyed out but 'Mute' in checked.
It's as if the OS sees no sound drivers or no sound hardware now
Can anyone shed any light on this?
In addition my machine now takes a good 5 mins to boot, seems to run fine once it's underway - apart from no sound.
This initial boot up screen looks OK, but then it sits on a blue screen for 5 mins - then boots

Firstly to try to cure the slow startup go to System Preferences>Startup Disk. Click on 'Macintosh OS X, 10.6.7 on Macintosh HD' and restart. Hopefully it'll start up at normal speed.
To try and fix the sound issue you could try downloading the combo updater (if you haven't already): Mac OS X v10.6.7 Update Combo
and reapply the update.
Often re-applying the update using the combo fixes unexplained problems.
If this helps you may need to repeat step one again as it seems that sometimes the Mac seems to struggle to find a startup disk, often after new installs/updates.
Before and after doing the update I'd also suggest repairing disk permissions: Utilities>Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD, click 'repair permissions'.

I just did a recommended updated on my mac Mini and it has deleted my entire media library! Please Help!!!

I received the update notice from system preferences, so I followed the usual drill, accepting recommended update/downloads and restarting - one of those being an iTunes update.
Once the mini was restarted I went to my iTunes movie library to watch a movie and discovered that ALL movies (digital downloads and iTunes purchases) as well as my entire music library had been deleted. This has NEVER happened with previous updates.
How can I restore/find my files? They do not seem to be in the user location and I tried changing where iTunes looks for the music and movie files but that didn't work.
I'm so frustrated, there were over 11,000 music files and over 30 movies that seem to have been deleted.
Any help or suggestions to find the missing files is much appreciated!!!

I'd fisrt go to spotlight and search for .m4a and/or .mp3 files.

Mac mini not booting up with 8GB memory after 10.7.2 update

My mac mini is not booting up with 8GB of memory after the 10.7.2 update. It just keeps on beeping and flashing the led.
If I take out the upper DIMM (Bank 1) It boots just fine, and it does so with either one of the 4GB DIMMs in Bank 0, so the DIMMs are fine. It also boots up fine with two 1GB DIMMs installed simultaneously, so the Bank 1 seems to be somehow working as well.
This trouble started right after the Lion recovery update, meaning the mini has never booted with the full 8GB installed after the update.
It worked just fine before that, with the full 8GB of memory installed.
Anyone else having similar problems?

I have upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro and my 2011 Mini Server
to 8 gig with Corsair RAM and have had no issues
(CMSA8GX3M2A1333C9). What brand RAM was used?
There have been issues in the past with some RAM
brands.
Something to try is a PRAM reset with the 8 gig installed.

Also, make sure the Minis are booting into 64 bit mode.
Open Applications->Utilities->System Information
On the left side click the software heading. There should be a line
64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes

Since the newest hp update, my sound has gone completely silent. any ideas?

I have an HP Pavilion g6 and I just updated with an unknown update (it doesn't show in my "View History") so I'm not entirely sure which one it was, but since then I've lost my sound completely. I'm about to update my sound driver, but in the mean time, does anyone have any ideas?

Ok, got it now. I turned the Mini off and rebooted. Seems to be working fine now.

Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. These steps are to be taken while booted in safe mode.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

I'm curious when will there be a new software update for Nokia N97 mini.
The latest update was on June or July last year v30.0.004
Would be cool to update it, don't you agree? Almost a year now....

Updater killed my iPod Mini!

I purchased an iPod Mini off of my boss last week, as he purchased an iPod Nano and no longer has any need for it.
I installed iTunes on my Toshiba Satellite at work, hooked up my iPod, and I while I was removing songs from the unit (which worked just fine prior to all of this), I was prompted to download and install Updater.
I installed updater, hooked up my mini, and let it do its thing, until it said to plug the unit into an ac adapter to reflash the hardware (?). Ever since, there has been an image of an AC adapter plugging into an outlet that stays on the screen, and even after plugging it into numerous outlets, computers, and USB ports, I can't get any computer to recognize the unit, and I can't get this image off of the screen (except for when I restart it and the apple image briefly appears).
I have tried resetting my iPod numerous times by toggling the hold button and depressing select and menu simultaneously for ten seconds. I have also read that I should try depressing menu and play, and nothing helps. I can't help but be discouraged.
Any words of wisdom for me? Perhaps there is something that I haven't tried (spin around three times, pray facing east, burn sage, make a sacrifice to Cthulhu, etc.)

(Sorry to the mac mini folks for posting in the incorrect forum in the first place. It's been a long week.)

Try any/all of these tips below. Some you may have seen, others may be new....
First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Your PC may have difficulty with the USB2 protocol and the iPod. See this Article for a possible solution: iPod not Recognized Correctly
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

How do you mean? Once you have 8.0.2 on there it shouldn't be asking you to download 'old' software.
Did the older installer download already and is lurking on your device? Settings, general, usage. Populate the list and you should see and be able to delete it from there.
