10.6.7 upgrade and bluetooth keyboard/Magic trackpad

Since doing the upgrade to 10.6.7 i have issues with bluetooth keyboards/trackpads not being seen by the Mac Mini i own. I must fiddle around with the mouse and keyboard and EVENTUALLY it will be seen. This happens on boot every time. Once it is discovered, all works fine until the next boot.
I have deleted and added the devices to the bluetooth configuration, reset the sram, cleaned permissions, etc. Nothing has helped.
Any pointers to resolving this issue once and for all would be appreciated.
thanks

I have the same problem with bluetooth now after upgrading to 10.6.7. The bluetooth hardware is no longer recognized at all. Nothing works to get it back so far. I tried PRAM resets and SMC resets several reboots with nothing working.... I took the computer MacBookPro just purchased a few days ago.... into the Apple store and they are ordering new bluetooth hardware because even their test program does not see the Bluetooth hardware any more. But I do not think the hardware is bad because it was working just fine until I updated the system software. I think Apple has a major software bug going on in this update based upon the number of users with the same problem as me. The bluetooth hardware may need to be removed and reinstalled. I have not tried that yet. Please advise if a fix is found...For now using USB keyboard and mouse as bluetooth is no longer recognized at all.

  • Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse/Trackpad won't automatically connect after installing Boot Camp

    Hey guys!
Another peculiar thing happened to me today with my 3-week-old maxed-out 2012 iMac (other than it kernel panicking when I powered it down the other day...did I mention this was 3 weeks old?).
After installing Boot Camp which I will never do again, my iMac (on the OS X side) no longer recognizes my stock Apple Wireless Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, or Magic Mouse automatically, until I press a button on the keyboard and wait 5 seconds, click the trackpad and wait 5 seconds, or click the mouse and wait 5 seconds.
(The Windows 8 Boot Camp side pairs with the devices immediately after Windows boots, which leads me to believe that the bluetooth devices are defaulting to look for Windows.)
One of my huge fears I had when considering purchasing an iMac is that the Bluetooth devices wouldn't immediately connect. Being a power-user with former Mac notebooks and working understandably fast having owned a web development company for 8 years now and not having to worry about Bluetooth device pairing, I'd like to think this fear is substantiated. But after first use (before installing Windows 8 with Boot Camp Assistant) it functioned normally and the iMac would automatically discover my peripherals and connect them by the time time computer turned on. I also had no trouble holding the Option key on boot to select a boot device....
Now, ever since I set up Windows 8 on the Boot Camp partition and paired the keyboard/mouse/trackpad to Windows, the Mac side completely ignores the keyboard/mouse/trackpad until I click a button on each.
I'm trying to keep it together but this is raging me out.
I went into Windows, immediately unpaired the 3 peripherals from windows and now use a wired keyboard/mouse with Windows (yay, desk space!), deleted the items entirely from the bluetooth panel, then booted to Mac and did the same thing. I then re-paired the devices to the OS X side andddd...no go! Still doesn't find them automatically. I am extremely upset by this and can't seem to fix it.
To summarize, my two issues are:
    A. The iMac in OS X does not automatically recognize my bluetooth peripherals until I click a button on each and wait a couple seconds for them to pair.
    B. I cannot hold Option to select a boot device (or choose Windows/Mac for example) because the computer doesn't recognize the keyboard until OS X boots and I press a key.
Please...for the love of god...someone help me, and stop me from formatting my entire computer over this issue.

I don't have a logitech mouse, but is it possible that the mouse is going to sleep during the reboot, and is thus unavailable when the OS is looking for it?

  • IOS 8.2 And bluetooth keyboard troubles.

After the upgrade to iOS 8.2 my iPad air2 and iPhone 6 do not recognize the apple bluetooth keyboard anymore. Restart does not work. and when I try to connect a notification is made that the connection cannot be made.
Does anyone now how to fix this?

    Hello JHvL,
As I understand it your iPhone isn't able to connect to your bluetooth Apple keyboard after updating to iOS 8.2 even after a restart. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help you resolve that issue, named:

  • Mac Mini first boot and bluetooth keyboard not recognised

    Hi Apple Support Community-
I have just purchased a brand new Mac Mini and App Wireless Keyboard.  Unfortunately upon first boot, the Mac Mini is requesting I connect my bluetooth keyboard by switching it on, however even though the green light flashes, after the 5 second startup acknowledgement, there is no response from the Mac Mini.
To confirm the keyboard is working, I have successfully paired it with my MacBook.  I do not have a USB Keyboard or Mouse and without purchasing additional hardware, do you have any suggestions to work around this problem?
    Thanks, Julian

    Hi Julian,
Sometime a Mac can't pickup the connection of a bluetooth keyboard or mouse is normal. Whatever your Mac is brand new or not.
I will do the following if the brand new Mac can't pickup the bluetooth connection, but make sure the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is not yet paired with other computer, that means you have to un-pair the keyboard and mouse from your MacBook before you perform the follow step:
    - Switch off the Mac
    - Switch off the Keyboard and Mouse which not yet paired with other computer, remove its battery, and re-install the battery after 10 seconds
    - Switch on the Keyboard and Mouse first, make sure both devices have a green light flashes (the light flashed at intervals, like a pulse **...**...sorry my poor English), that means the devices is discoverable.
    - Switch on the Mac asap if all the bluetooth keyboard and mouse is ready, and let the Mac pair both device (according the screen instruction)
If the method still doesn't work, the worst case is: i'm afraid you have to connect wired keyboard and mouse to finish the Setup Assistant, and pair both bluetooth devices by Bluetooth Preferences. Once both bluetooth devices connected, disconnect wired keyboard and mouse.

  • Messages and bluetooth keyboard send button?

Is there any solution out there to be able to hit the send button on an iPad with the wireless bluetooth keyboard?

I just came up with a solution to this problem that is cheap, and in my case free. I went to the office supply cabinet and fished out the big kind of clip. (http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/963439/OIC-Large-Binder-Clips-2-Wide/?cm_c at=2000000351) The black kind with the wings/handles that flip down. Turned the keyboard off first, since the clip will depress two keys, and clipped the clip around the round part of the keyboard affording a little over hang so nothing can easily depress the power button.

  • Migration Assistant, Target Disk Mode and Bluetooth Keyboards

Wanted to migrate my iMac setup to a new MBP last night. Kept trying to start up my iMac in target disk mode and it would only boot normally not in TD. Finally realized that my bluetooth keyboard was the culprit in that it wasn't connected once the iMac shut off for the restart. Thankfully I had a wired keyboard; plugged it in and migration went as advertised. Nowhere (that I could find) in the Migration Asst. prompts does it mention anything about needing a wired keyboard to restart as a TD. Did I miss something basic? If not, shouldn't Apple make mention of this to avoid confusion and frustration?
    BTW, the new MBP rocks!

Yes, that tidbit of info is buried in a support article, as is some other Migration Assistant documentation. But it would be far better if the app had its own comprehensive, searchable Help built into it, just like most other apps from Apple. Note that when you launch Migration Assistant, there isn't even a Help menu, nor are there any question mark in purple circle icons in its windows to offer context sensitive help.
Basically, that's what I requested in my feedback to Apple.

  • IPad and Bluetooth Keyboard

My iPad no longer responds generally to the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard. I have changed the batteries, disconnected and reconnected via Bluetooth, restarted the iPad, and even tested the Keyboard on the MacBook Pro, with which it works fine. However, on the iPad I am only able to type the connection code for Bluetooth, and use the 'Brightness' and Volume buttons. Nothing else works. I cannot type after it has been connected. Any suggestions?

It doesn't look like it in the pictures.
    2. If the answer to question #1 is NO, does anyone know if you can use the non-keyboard dock without it being hooked to AC power?
You should be able to but we'll know for sure in March. You could also just buy a case that doubles as a stand.

  • After installing Mavericks, I have intermittent problems working with Wacom Intuos 4 and bluetooth keyboard.

I use Photoshop extensively with a Wacom Intuos 4 and Apple bluetooth keyboard, and have had no problems (as below) before.
Each time I use the tablet, the keyboard gets intermittently unresponsive, and it will only respond again after I tap the tablet pen on the tablet. And sometimes after repeatedly tapping the pen on the tablet.
It gets so frustrating as I use the keyboard to change Photogshop tools etc, and everytime it doesn't response I have to do the tapping again.
Appreciate some sharing of solutions, if any.
    Thank you.

I'm having the same issue and its very frustrating.
I use Photoshop and Flash heavily at work, but can't use my wacom at all anymore because:
its seems Shift gets stuck and everything becomes highlighted
    shortcut keys won't work
when I drag out rectangle shapes the corners automatically become curved and eventually my rectangle becomes a circle
I will click on a keyframe and the actions panel will automatically pop up
when I try to move objects they duplicate.
More things happen but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. When I switch to a regular usb mouse the issues don't occur. I've tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling and the issues still occur. Its completely slowed down my productivity and is starting to hurt my wrist now :\
Nice to know that someone else has a similar problem at least. Hopefully apple or wacom will come out with a fix soon.

  • Question regarding Windows 7 w/iMac and bluetooth keyboard + mouse

I installed Windows 7 Home Premium, thru Boot Camp 3.0. My iMac 10.6.8 restarts w/a black screen. After reading the previous posts, I guess this is b/c I am using a bluetooth keyboard/mouse. Will any corded keyboard/mouse work or does it have to be an apple product? I am hours away from the Apple store, and in a very remote area. I could try to find someone with a PC corded keyboard/mouse if it would work.

Helps to have wired kb/mouse until BT and drivers installed.
Even a tech article here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
Any will do. I use a lot of 3rd party kb and always use MS optical mice. Apple puts their own firmware in some keyboards which I don't understand and can cause problems of their own.
It isn't what OS you run as much as what model year the iMac.

  • Organizer Tray for Apple Wired Keyboard & Magic Trackpad

    Greetings,
I have found several "organizer tray" products online for positioning the Bluetooth keyboard and the Magic Trackpad like a Macbook Pro where the trackpad is just below the keyboard.
I am curious to know if anyone has seen or has a tray that will organize the Apple wired aluminum keyboard with the numeric keypad and the Magic Trackpad.
I find that I'm getting RSI in my fingers and wrist having the trackpad to the right of the keyboard.
    Anyone seen anything?
    Thank-you!
    Derrick

Just found another one; a slightly different configuration and less than half the price: http://www.magiclapdesk.com/magiclapdesk-for-apple-trackpad.html Good luck!

  • New MBP 15" doesn't discover my bluetooth keyboard or trackpad

I've used the setup assistant to try to setup my new MacBook with my bluetooth keyboard and magic trackpad.  I've tried several times and both are discovered but neither will connect.
I used these devices on my old computer which is still in use in the house.  Would that cause any problems?  I turned the bluetooth off in my old MacBook.
    Any ideas? thanks

Thanks.  I did read through  everything on that thread.  I didn't find help.  Maybe I can explain the problem a little better now though:
I got a new MBP, I have an Apple bluetooth keyboard and trackpad.  Yesterday, and all this year both devices were working on my older MBP.
Now, "discoverable" under the top bluetooth icon is grayed out.  (Also, in the Sys Prefs I have Discoverable checked.)    I can pull down below, have the bluetooth on, and I can see both devices and am given the opportunity to connect but they both show red dots and don't connect.
So, has the computer actually "discovered" the devices?  I haven't been prompted to pair them up.  I think they already are, due to the presence of the red dots next to ea device.   I just can't get those little dots to turn green and allow me to use my keyboard & trackpad...
    Thanks for any more advice.....

  • T430s bluetooth linux magic trackpad

I'm trying to use an apple magic trackpad in linux with the built-in bluetooth module from my t430s.  It works fine, but only if I keep the trackpad within 30cm of the laptop.  As I go further away, it starts to become unresponsive an then the cursor freezes.  Turning the wireless switch off-on solves the problem.
    I'm using debian 7 with kernel 3.9.0 from wheezy-backports.
I know this is not a typical setup, but maybe someone has run across a similar issue?  Does this bluetooth module have an antenna which is perhaps not connected? Or could it be a driver issue?  I don't want to start taking things apart if I don't even know whether there is an antenna or not.
I tried using an asus bt211 usb dongle which solved my range issue - I was able to use the trackpad from several meters away.  Unfortunately this dongle uses an atheros chip which has another issue,  3+ finger touches makes it freeze.
    thanks for any tips...

Thanks for the tip.  I opened the door and saw a board with 3 antenna wires.  All 3 are connected and the wires don't seem damaged in any way.  Is this the WIFI and Bluetooth board, or only the WIFI?  I thought it was only for WIFI and that bluetooth would have its own antenna somewhere inside the laptop.
As for a solution to my magic trackpad issue, I bought a generic dongle for around $15 which uses a CSR8510 chip.  Everything works perfectly and the range is excellent too.  It's just a shame that I can't use my laptop's built-in bluetooth functionality.

Well I took the plunge and did a Suy for the 1st time in 6 months or so today... all went well but I have no keyboard or mouse. I have read all the info on the modular configs and opted to stick with my original xorg.conf. Below are my xorg.conf and an Xorg.0.log. Any help is appreciated.

  • Mac Mini and Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse

I have a Mac Mini as a server. I've decided to do a clean install of Mountain Lion and Mountain Lion Server. I don't have any wired keyboard or mouse and am having trouble getting the Mac Mini to see the keyboard and mouse. I can buy cheap wired ones but I'd like to use my bluetooth ones if at all possible. Can anyone offer some tips for doing this successfully? I need a method that assumes I have a Mac Mini with a clean, formated disk and a bootable flash drive with the latest copy of Mac OS X Mountain Lion.

I did unpair the mouse. The keyboard has only ever beenpaired with the Mac Mini. Today I was finally able to get both devices talking with the Mac Mini, but I really don't know how I did this. I just played with turning them on and off. If the Mac Mini has been newly formatted (as I finally managed to you), is the pairing information retained?
I'm thinking there is more to this issue than just bluetooth pairing.
Thanks for your quick reply. (I'm still redownloading Mountain Lion from the Apple store and making a new bootable flash drive as the one I had won't let me install. Not sure why.)
(If the issue is just one of pairing it would appear I don't need a wired mouse and keyboard.)

  • Ipad2 and bluetooth keyboard wrong characters typed

After the pairing and testing, when I typeded some stuff, but it is not the right keystrokes, EX: shift + 8 should be "*" but shift + 8 is "(".  So some of the shift with a keystroke is changed now and dont know how to change it back.

I thought I was tripping but was definitely sure. If I did Shift + = you should get a '+' but nope it was nothing.
As for the keyboard (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC184).  Also my setting is all correct for the USA standard qwerty setup.
