10.6.8 and Lion wifi problem

hello,
I am trying to use my mac for one week...... ;(
everything was fine until update to 10.6.8... wifi problem as many of you already know. tried to update to lion, same problem. Got back to 10.6 and then update to 10.6.8 using software update... then formatted again, fresh install 10.6 update to 10.6.8 using combo update, same problem.
tried to delete firewall file, turned off ipv6, changed security of my router from wpa2 to wpa, tried different channels, reset SMC and RAM, all the solutions we can research... all the same
now I am on 10.6.7 and seems i still has the problem happening....
hello apple, more than a month and no solution yet????
I've read somewhere a new procedure that consists in update to 10.6.8 and before restart do some procedures.... but I can't find it anymore, any help?
I guess that solution is the only one remaining I did not try yet.
thanks and regards,
raul

well, it's caused by software only, there is nothing wrong with airport hardware
hard to believe, it's like windows old time sake, loosing precious days fighting with a computer...
too bad apple

  • Mountain Lion WiFi Problems (recap)

Folks, wanted to recap this as I am finding the problem much more broad than my original post (here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19123146#19123146). Here's my setup:
    MacBook Air 13", Mid 2011
    Mountain Lion
Wifi Problems, cannot connect to open wi-fi and Sprint hot spot.
CAN connect to Time Capsule (at least I could before I started futzing with my setup while on the road)
here's what I've done so far:
    Reset SMC
    Zapped PRAM
    Reduced MTU to 1300
    Set hotspot to 802.11g only
    Set IPv6 to Local-link only
Set up a new user account, no connection there either
    Repair disk
    Repair disk permissions
Removed WiFi in networking control panel and re-add.
Remove the network from control panel AND remove keys from Keychain
What I have not done but will try later:
    Reinstall ML
    Disable WMM
    Observations:
ML seems to think there is a connection to the wi-fi, but it can never get an IP address
Using a static IP on the network doesn't help the problem
My hotspot never really registers the MBA as a connection

Tell you what worked for me .. finally.
Had two Apple technicians on the case - over the phone. Have to say, those guys are awesome! - with patience of saints! But to the point! As there was nothing obviously wrong with operating system, they promised to call me back the following day but suggested talking to my Internet Service Provider about the router (D-Link router). The ISP remoted to my iMac and logged into router site and changed channel selection from automatic to manual. He chose channel 13, and suddenly my MBA connected and has been connecting smoothly ever since. The reasons I had problems was that there was over 10 available wi-fi networks in my flat, some of which showed as having stronger signal than my own. The ISP guy told me this, increasingly, becomes and issue, especially in blocks of flats - the ether is  filled with wi-fi networks to the point of saturation. He also said, his choice of channel 13 was just a fluke and it might turn out I'd have to change it again.
So, although the problem is now solved, there still remains this one nagging question: Why did the wi-fi connectivity zonked right after Mountain Lion upgrade?

  • Email and big wifi problems.

    Email and big wifi problems.
Why does it take 6 minutes to send a photo attachment when my iphone 4 will do it in 30 to 40 seconds ?
Why will my email account be recognised and log on only half the time?
Why does the wifi keep dropping out?
Why does the speed and signal vary when I'm sitting two feet away from by wifi router?
All settings in my phone have been reset twice as per advice from vodapone

Thanks very much, jjgraphics. I will grit my teeth and try India once more, as you suggest, and then get in touch with the moderators.
    Karen.

  • After installing Mountain Lion, WiFi problems

I installed Mountain Lion on my mac mini and have been having intermittent WiFi problems ever since. It seems to be getting worse, connection is now being dropped several times an hour as opposed to several times a day. I have tried all the suggestions that have been put forth with no luck. My iPhone can use the WiFi with no problems. What I have found that seems to work everytime is to go into the Network system preferences, turn WiFi off, and then immediately turn it back on. I am using the most recent Apple Airport Extreme. I urge Apple to fix this bug quickly.

Don't know what to tell you, but I also have an AEBS-Gen5 with a MBP Retina and Mac Mini using WiFi. Both are running Mountain Lion and I don't have any WiFi connection issues. Two iPhones in the household use WiFi with no issues along with a printer and 2 Windows 7 laptops.
First thing I would try is to shutdown all computers connected to the AEBS. Then power off the AEBS and finally the cable/DSL modem. Then reverse the order and power on the cable modem, wait for all the lights to be solid, power on the AEBS, wait for the light to show solid green; then power up a computer that uses WiFi.
If the above doesn't work, you might try repairing permissions via Disk Utility. If that doesn't help maybe a PRAM reset would work.

  • Lion wifi problem

lion wifi disconnect and i need to turn it off then turn it on every 10 mins.
how can i solve this problem?

It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
    1) Use the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu bar item to turn AirPort/Wi-Fi off, then on again.
    2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort/Wi-Fi menu.
    3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort/Wi-Fi item from the left column, then add it back.
    4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
    5) In the same panel, select the AirPort/Wi-Fi connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".  Note that the fix this step implements may be temporary.
    6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( _not_ <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try.  Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them.  If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • Lion wifi problems TABARNAC !

WiFi is disconecting every 5 minutes. I have the same problem thousands of users are having since we installed Lion. Will Apple finally do something for us who like me have been Mac users since the beginning ? This is not very Apple not to care about the fans. Can a Apple official say a word to all of us and fix the problem Tabarnac ?

I have had Lion since the day it was released and have experienced no such issues, and neither has the majority of users that have Lion.  All you will see in this forums are people posting problems, not the majority who are not have this issue.  I (nor anyone else) can say what apple may do to "fix" this issue as only apple knows what they have planned.  And Im not sure what you are referring to when you say "Tabarnac"...

  • Mountain Lion wifi problems?

Hi there, Not sure if this is the right post for this but I am running a 15" MBP Retina with Mountain Lion, all of my software is up-to-date.
This evening I was on my home wifi like normal, and my computer all of the sudden dropped the connection.Other wifi connections were still showing up in the dropdown and Both my wife and I's iphones were still connected to the home wifi. I figured the router needed to be reset so I did that, and no change.
I've tried manually "Join Other Network" and still nothing, I've cleared my preferred networks list and then re-added the home wifi to the list, still nothing. Ran a scan to make sure it wasn't a spyware bug or something like that, nothing. From what I understand this issue is pretty common with Lion and Mountain Lion.
Can anyone help? I'd prefer to not have to go in and change my router settings as that isn't really fixing the problem, it sounds like its in the Lion software, wondering if there are any other fixes to this problem?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Mountain Lion and Lion wifi issues

Don't start on me about there being multiple threads on that subject already.  I was told by a very respected member of these forums to start my own thread on the issue.
Dropping wifi started with Lion and for the last 10 months with ML.  I've been in touch with Apple, they called me after reading my old post and had me run test for them with no help.  I've done completely clean installs on newly reformatted hard drive and using a USB drive to install ML.  It won't connect to wifi to finish install half the time so other software isn't the issue.
I've tried just about every fix posted.  A lot of them with Apple on the phone.  I've replaced my router knowing that wouldn't fix it because I take my Mac with me and it drops wifi on any router or network.
I have 2 Macs and only one has ever had this issue.
You don't have to believe I've tried everything, that I've had Apple call me or that I even have the issue.
I've been asked to post the names of the engineers that have contacted me.  Why would you need to know that in order to believe me, especially if you admit to not knowing any.
All I want to know is there a fix?  Yes/No
Remember it doesn't want to connect on a clean install.
    P.S.:
For all those looking for reason's not to help me, my dog is yawning in the picture not growling.  Yes I've gotten mad on other threads but how many times can you be called a liar just because their fixes didn't work for me or I won't post engineers names.

    Thanks for that list.
Out of all you posted I tried everything with Apple on the phone.
I'm the only one who uses this Mac and I constantly check my settings incase something was changed on it's own because of some app.  But I'll lock it after retrying everything over again.
I'll be glad to get it down to once every few days again. I haven't complaned about it in a long time because I could live with that.  That's where I was before it went back to dropping constantly. Lets face it once a day would be great.  I've had to reboot just trying to reply.
I've started taking some live on line courses so it's not just an announce to me.  It started again before I started classes.
The 10.8.3 update made it worse.  But not enough to go back to 10.8.2.
My mail program is affected the worst.  When wifi drops and Mail is running I always have to force quit.  I know that's an affect no the cause.
I do have another Genius Bar appointment for that and a couple of other issues.  The first time they denied there were any wifi issues until I gave them the names of the engineers that called me with their email addresses and phone numbers.  I've since lost their phone numbers but still have their email addresses.  I know one was a CA area code and the Main one was from TX.  I have emailed them this week but still no reply.
Like I said once it went down to dropping every few days I didn't care any more.
I'll keep you up to date.

  • Airport signal blinking and others WIFI problems

I have a serious problem with my MacBook Pro. The WIFI signal is pretty weak compared to my old iBook or PowerMac G5, and sometimes, the Airport signal is lost and the Airport signal goes from 5 bars to 0, like a blinking.
I have this message in the Console " Feb 2 21:57:27 ordinateur-de- /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport: Error: WirelessAssociate2() = 88001006 for network Airport. The operation timed out. "
I have no problem with the iBook or the PM G5 on the same WIFI network.
    What can I do ?

if you are having a reception issue, you may be having some sort of environmental interference.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58543
also, you can organize your network ports to have airport as your primary. this may help
    open system preferences > network
    - change the Show: to network port configuration
    - drag airport to the top of the list
    - click apply now , in bottom right
    - restart
    hope this helps

  • Aperture and Lion vault problem. Have Lion ruined my Vault?

    Hi!
I have my iMac since the release of mid-2010 models but it's my first post here.
I have installed Lion from a clean install of Snow Leopard and 10.6.8. I am restoring my programs, and I have a very big problem with Aperture.
I have restored my Vault and all my photos are show as "disconnected" because the volume "Mackintosh HD" is offline...
I can't understand this. I have use this Vault before without problems...
What can I do? Is my library ruined?

Figured it out. I started Aperture using CMD-OPT and repaired permissions. All the images came back. Not well thought out by Apple - Aperture was right where it always was, but after the upgrade, for some reason I no longer had permission to view my own images.

  • FritzBox 7360 and AE wifi problems

I have an Airport Extreme connected to the LAN1 port of my FritzBox because I want to use the wifi signal of the AE. I have configured the AE in bridge mode. Yet, I do experience problems with the WiFi signal. Although my devices such as my iPad or MacBook say there is wifi, if often takes several minutes before I get connected to the internet. There seems to be some sort of delay. I have tried a lot of things, but the issue is not solved. Does anyone know the solution? Thanks

    here is/might be the solution:
    After hours of discussing the problem with at least 10 Helpdesk-employees etc. a depressed technician came up with the solution;
    Switch Annex-A to Annex-B.
    That simple.
You will lose your very fast Internet connection for the time being and return to ADSL, but everything will work fine.
Go to your Fritz!box in your browser
    In Fritzbox go to Internet
From Internet go to DSL information
In DSL information go to the tap: line settings.
On this page you will find Annex B and Annex B.  In case the Annex A is selected, you should switch to Annex B and confirm. You will have to do this twice before it really takes it. Then your Fritzbox will reset and this will take some time. You will see the green lights on the machine flicker on and out. When steady again you might have a steady internet-connection again, as well. It will be an ADSL connection.
It worked for a whole week with me. Than there was trouble again. I found out that Fritzie had reset himself to Annex A again. I put him back in his place, being Annex B.
I hope this will be helpful, because I know the agony of talking with many professional help desk advisors and getting nowhere.
I am on a macbook pro 10.5.8 and some higher Mac-OS machines.
    Good luck!

  • FCP 7 and Lion reconnecting problems

I still haven't heard any comment from Apple on this.  I feel caught in the middle here, as an editor.  I had to get Avid Media Composer 6 because everyone I work for seems to be running away from Apple now that they've released FCPX.  To install the latest version of Media Composer, I had to upgrade to Lion.  I was told FCP7 would still work on Lion but I'm having all sorts of issues, beginning with problems reconnecting media.
Does anyone know if Apple is going to release some fixes for Studio 3 so it does work with Lion as advertised.  Apple is behaving strangely, or really, poorly these days.  It's one thing to leave old apps and hardware behind as you move forward, but when you start leaving your customers in bad situations, that's not good.  Please Apple.  Communicate with us on this.  I'm shocked really.  I understood FCP7 had about a 50% marketshare.  Why drop that ball?
I don't like Lion that much so far either.  Not happy.

Did you do a clean installation of Lion or did you install it over your existing OSX 10.6 and all your apps?
If you did an overwrite install, you may be dealing with all the problems you had in 10.6 but didn't really know about because they had not risen to the level of noticable. Upgrading an OS can break these incipient issues.
A number of people are running FCS3 on 10.7 without a host of issues.
My suggestion (painful as it may sound) is to get a new hard drive for your MacPro and do a clean installation of 10.7 on it then install FCS and your other apps from the original disks. My guess is a number of issues will be cleaned up.
    Good luck.

  • Serious and annoying WiFi problems.

Well, it all started when i had to recover my iTouch 2G with Recovery Mode.
Till the recovery, the iPod worked just fine. It connected the WiFi without any problems, totally smooth.
Now, there are a few weird things:
*A. When im connecting to the network, it says it succeeded, and i even see the wifi signals at the top, but when im entering Safari, the background turns gray and there is a "loading" message saying "Connecting" and stays like this forever.*
    B. It worx with other networks, _but it worked with this network before_, so i cant find a reason it wont now.
    C. It takes around 6~10 seconds to connect, when usually it took 3 or less.
    D. After it connects, it takes around 30 seconds till you can see the 3-wifi-bars.
    I Tried to:
    A. Hard reset
    B. Upgrade and downgrade my firmware
    C. Reset the network settings
    D. "Forget this network"
    Nothing Worked
    Thx in advance,
    Ben.

No guarantee, but there's a chance you may need to upgrade the iTunes software, which is revised every month or so. Good chance it's this.
The rare times that's happened to me, I unplugged the router (should you have one), restarted the router, and things returned to normal. This latter suggestion may not apply to you.

    any thought as to why?

A lot of the reports repair permisisons comes back with can be ignored, as long as it comes to the end and says repairs are done.
Have you tried deleting the network, then re-ener the network information?
Or power cycle the router, with the computer turned off, then when the router is back up, start the computer and reestablish the network?
Both will sometimes clear up communication issues.
Does the dropping occur at a regular time of day?

  • If I install Yosemite and find that the wifi problems are too bad, can I go back to Mountain Lion?

Almost everything I do on my MacBookPro requires a steady wifi connection. I have been reading all the horror stories about the wifi problems with Yosemite. I would like to install Yosemite, but would like to be able to go back to Mountain Lion if the problems are as extreme as I have been hearing.
Details: My Mac is 3 years old (Apple Care ran out 2 days ago!). I recently upgraded from 4GB of ram to 16GB.
    Router is a Linksys E4200.
    I have an Iphone-4s
My husband has an older MacBook running Lion.
I connect to an Epson Artisan 835 with wifi via my router
We have no need to have the Apple devices communicate with each other.
I am currently running an appliance in Virtual Box. One reason I want to move to Yosemite is to be able to run it in VMware Fusion instead.
    Thanks.

    Hi there CarylLynne,
If you upgrade to Yosemite, you should be able to use the following article to revert to the previously installed OS using Time Machine, named:
OS X Yosemite: Revert to a previous OS X version
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling
