10.6.8 issue - reinstall 10.6.7 or go to Lion?

I've had problems with the sleep command since installing the 10.6.8 update. The 10.6.8 supplement update didn't help the problem. It takes anywhere from 20 seconds to 50 seconds for my iMac to sleep. I've repaired permissions, and I did the AHT. No problems popped up. I unplugged my Seagate External Drive, did a restart, then tried sleep again. Same problem. Which would be better, or more sensible - upgrading to Lion, or going back to to 10.6.7? And if I go back, how? Just download the 10.6.7 update from earlier this year? Thanks for any help/advise!

Erica,
I would first start by doing a SMC reset followed by resetting the PRAM. If neither work try restarting in Safe Mode.
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and foolishly upgraded to Yosemite. Now have numerous problems.  Is it possible to go back in time with Time Machine and reinstall Snow Leopard?  Then upgrade to Lion or Mavericks?  Any other ideas on how I can exit Yosemite?

Once you get yourself back to Snow Leopard, if you still want to upgrade somewhat, I would suggest the following:
    1. Get an external hard drive that you can use for experiments with new OS versions. You could partition it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could then clone your existing Snow Leopard system to one partition using Carbon Copy Cloner (well worth $40) or SuperDuper ($25).
    2. Buy OS X Mountain Lion for $20, through the Apple online store (I don't think it's available through the App Store). Apple has decided to make it very difficult for anyone to get Mavericks unless they have already downloaded it.
You will receive two e-mails from Apple, one containing a PDF with a redemption code, and one with the password you will need to unlock the PDF. Using the code, you will download Mountain Lion from the App Store, where it will appear among your Purchased items.
After ML finishes downloading, its installer app will launch itself. When you see this launch screen, QUIT the install app immediately! Go to your applications folder, find the Install OS X Mountain Lion app, and copy it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder. Keeping one or more copies will allow you to reinstall without unnecessary aggravation if you later need or want to do that. At this point, you can re-launch the Installer in the Applications folder and let it run. You can install it on a clean partition on your external HD, or you can allow it to upgrade the Snow Leopard clone you created on your external drive, or you can do both. This should allow you to test how everything works for as long as you like.
    3. If you left yourself a free partition on your test drive, try a clean install of Yosemite and set everything up from scratch (do not migrate anything). This will allow you to see whether your problems with it were related to something in your Snow Leopard system.

    Hi,
Before going further, would you please let me know the version information of server OS which the WSUS will
    be reinstalled in?
In addition, would you please let me confirm something more? It may help me understand this issue clearly.
Would you please let me know how uninstall WSUS summarily? Did uninstall WSUS while keeping the database? Please refer to:
    How to Uninstall WSUS
Please let me know what database you use to store WSUS information. Was SQL or WID? From the error message, it seems that you choose the option for Windows Internal Database
    when reinstalled.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • Issues reinstalling iPhoto

I got a new Macbook Pro which came with Lion pre-installed, my brother was going to have the Macbook originally and he installed iPhoto (or at least I assume since it was linked to his Apple ID
You'll have to forgive me - I'm farily new to Macs so may be missing something obvious here:
iPhoto kept prompting for updates which I could not install as it was not associated with my Apple ID so I decided to uninstall iPhoto and reinstall it under my ID so I would be able to update etc. and in line with any other apps I have downloaded from the app store,
After uninstalling iPhoto I now just see an 'Accept' button when I navigate to iPhoto in the app store however the button is not clickable, the arrow next to it gives me the standard 'Copy Link', and 'Tell a Friend' options but I cannot 'Accept' to reinstall iPhoto,
How can I get iPhoto back on my Macbook?
    Thanks

You need to contact App Store support. They are the only ones who can sort out Account issues. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store window.

  • Issues reinstalling OS on older Macbook Pro using external CD Drive

I want to give my father my old Macbook Pro that I bought in 2006/2007. Before giving it to him, I would like to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS. I have the original installation disc(s) that came with the computer (Mac OS Version 10.4.5). The original CD drive in the Macbook no longer works so I am trying to use an extrernal USB CD drive to do the reinstall. The laptop is currently running 10.6.8.
For the life of me I can get the laptop to boot form the extrenal CD drive / installation disc. I have restarted the computer multiple times holding down just C, just Command (⌘), and also Command (⌘) + R and it always just goes to the login screen.
Not sure what I need to do in order to make this work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

figured it out, was using USB to connect the external CD drive to the laptop, tried firewire and it worked like a charm holding down C during restart

  • Issue Reinstalling OSX 10.5

When reinstalling Leopard, I am told the install failed. For the following reason:
The installer could not validate the clients of the "EpsonPrinterDrivers" package.
Click to restart and try installing again.
I used the same CD to reinstall the software on my other computer, and it worked fine.
    What could the problem be?

I had to reinstall Leopard and restore using TM. It also worked flawless for me. When I checked to see if it was backing up again, there was nothing. I also tried to manually back and that didn't work either. I went into System Preferences, Time Machine and had to choose my TM backup drive again. Once I did that it worked perfect.

  • Uninstalled Itunes because of issue, reinstalled with newest version, now it won't read my library.  Error message "The itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"

Error message when opening itunes...The itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created in a newer version of itunes... how do i fix, it will not open with any of my ipod, ipad, iphone.

I don't know why this error occurs, unless you have attempted to downgrade iTunes.
This method should get you up and running again.
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Malware issue, Reinstalling OS (Big Problem)

Keep in mind, I am not IT expert, had no help, so I did the best I could....
    I have a Lenovo ThinkCenter Edge 72 (3484HPU)
Got some Malware on it, need wipeout my OS, start over. Tried to insert a copy of Windows 7 64 bit Pro but the BIOS wasn't set up to boot from the DVD drive. After searching how to do this, I did a few things.
    1. Changed the boot order to have my Optiarc DVD-RW AD-7290H as the first boot selection.
    2. Saw on a Lenovo message board concerning a similar problem to make sure my boot mode was in Legacy and not in UEFI. I saw no option to switch, so I disabled UEFI.
Now, my PC won't boot at all. It powers on, and then my Dell Monitor stays blank/black and the power button stays amber instead of green when it powers on.
    Stuck! What do I do?

I'm brazilian and my english know-how is very poor...but
boot on the linux distribution cd install
in partitioning tools, delete all linux partitions, and create one partition apple hfs, or DOS. done, abort the installation whit ctrlaltdel, or press power button.
    boot on the macos cd
what is linux distribution your use?

  • Reinstall Apple software after clean install of Lion on 2009 IMac

Completed a clean install of Lion on 2009 IMac, which initially reacted poorly to an upgrade (my first attempt to move to Lion). How do I reinstall iPhoto, Garageband, Aperture, Final Cut Express, iMovie, Logic Express? These were all preinstalled with original purchase. How would I find the serial numbers that will inevitably be asked for? The App store wants to charge for these items, and other non-Apple software I've purchased for the App store won't download again. Multiple issues! Any suggestions?

You'll need to use the DVD's that should have accompanied your system when you bought it.
Prior to the App Store when you purchased a system from Apple that included installed software such as iLile or Final Cut the DVD's were always included in the box. The serial numbers will be on the DVD boxes or DVD's themselves.
    regards
Concerning the App Store purchases if you long into the APp Store using the same Apple ID you used when you bought the software you should be able to download again without charge. At least this is how it works for Apple software don;t know if 3rd party stuff has different rules

  • Is anyone having Web Sharing issues after switching from 10.6 to Mountain Lion?

I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard (10.6.8) but I wanted to see if anyone is experiencing any issues with their Web Sharing after making the switch. I use Web Sharing daily to build and test  web sites for my clients and when I made the switch to 10.6 none of my database driven sites worked. Ultimately I had to install a new version of PHP 5 because 10.6 came with and older version.  And I had to reinstall SQL for my databases along with some other related items.  It wasn't a major problem but it took a couple of days to track down the issue.  Anyone seen any weirdness like that with Mountain Lion?

Web sharing is absent in Mountain Lion. Apple removed the feature. There're some unofficial hacks to bring it back, search the forums.

  • I cant reinstall os x because it says my lion HD is locked (in recovery mode) How do I unlock???

Hi, I recently had trouble with my macbook pro as it use to shut down un expectedly at 40 percent battery, after a while it wouldnt boot up so i rebooted in revovery mode. I ran disk utility and tried to repair my internal HD and it said "can not repair hard drive, back up as many files as you can and erase the hd and reinstall" so i tried an alternative by trying to reinstall os x yosemite. I failed as it said your HD is locked???? Is this because its corrupted? or could i get around this? I dont have a back up either as it was stolen overseas. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I hope you have your files backed up. Here's the solution:
You need to be able to boot the computer from another device such as a bootable DVD, a bootable USB flash drive. or if  you computer is a 2011 model or later then you can boot from a network drive by restarting the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION-R keys until you see a spinning globe appear. You need to have an Internet connection. I recommend using Ethernet because it is faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi. It may take upwards of 15-20 minutes to startup in the network Recovery HD. After the Utilities Menu appears you can select Terminal from the Utilities menu in the screen's menubar.
    $ diskutil list
    Should show something like this:
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *121.3 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            120.5 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3
    /dev/disk1
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *64.0 GB    disk1
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk1s1
       2:          Apple_CoreStorage                         63.2 GB    disk1s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk1s3
Then format the disk in question. In this case, disk1.
    $ diskutil eraseDisk JHFS+ name disk1
    You should see this:
    Started erase on disk1
    Unmounting disk
    Creating the partition map
Waiting for the disks to reappear
Formatting disk1s2 as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with name name
Initialized /dev/rdisk1s2 as a 59 GB HFS Plus volume with a 8192k journal
    Mounting disk
    Finished erase on disk1
Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities Menu and click the Continue button.

  • Do I need to reinstall FCS 2 to use ProRes on Lion?

I just moved to Lion on my Mac Pro. I'm mostly working in Adobe After Effects and Premiere now, but I still would like to use the ProRes codecs.
I still have FCS 2, which I understand I can install on Lion with a little bit of trickery. I don't know if FCS is totally stable on Lion, and the thing is I may not even need FCS at all… but I'd love to keep ProRes. Is there a way I can continue to encode using ProRes without needing to reinstall FCS 2 via Rosetta?
    Thanks,
    Clint

I figured it out. I can simply copy the ProRes codec from the Quicktime folder on my Snow Leopard drive to the corresponding folder on my Lion Drive. (I clean installed Lion on my second drive, so I still have my bootable Snow Leopard drive available for things like this)
Now I can encode using ProRes with my Adobe apps without installing or reinstalling my Mac Pro Apps.

  • Annoying mouse issues of cs6 and cs5.5 on mountain lion

    Hi everyone,
a couple month ago, a mac pro bought, which has mountain lion. i installed cs5.5 and for a while i have started to fight with mouse issues. illustrator, indesing and photoshop, all of them has mouse lag. photoshop has also freezing when i use stamp tool, and zooming in addition. if the screen moves (when i zoom or move the work to any direction of the window or use the tool which makes the screen move), it freeze and mouse pointer starts to spininnig. sometimes it comes back for a while, sometimes not. and then noticed that, forexample zooming or stamping, if i move mouse over the window, it completes the new view and everything is back normal.
but i can't use stamp tool as normal. it can't work fast and freezes mostly. the mouse lag occurs randomly; not only photoshop, but also indesign and illustrator. i looked at the consol messages and found this:
1/23/13 2:41:55.108 PM WindowServer[203]: _CGXGetWindowOrderingGroup: Operation on a window 0x69 requiring rights 0x5 by caller Photoshop
i googled it and can't found anything. when it freezes on photoshop, consol writes this message. screen never freezes indesign and illustrator. so, there is no messages. only mouse lag occurs on them.
i try to use different combination on photoshop's graphics processor settings. but it doesn't work. now i use photoshop by making the graphic processor off.
after that i installed cs6. but for a while, i met the same problems. i reset the photoshop, erased the preferences files. but it didn't work. after disabling graphic processor, i haven't met the freezing, but mouse issues continue in photoshop, illustrator and indesign.
if you  need more info, just ask me.
    thank you all.

    hi,
thanks for your answer. i don't know if it's a driver problem, or not. computer came with wireless apple magic mouse. today, i tried the old mac mouse (the ones without wheel). the same result.
if it worked, i wouldn't use this solution. because i do not have to use old mouse. we have met those problems in windows. i NEVER change any hardware for the problems in mac osx. i LOVE apple and its products, but if it worked, there is no different windows.
so, i don't know where is  the problem, either in macosx or in adobe products. but i'm really tired of this..
i guess this problem because of the video card: ati hd 5700. their website has not any driver for this card suit for mac os.
    appreciate any help..
