10.6.8 killed my flash player

Ever since the day i downloaded osx 10.6.8, I have had major troubles with Flash. Live streaming does not work (Major League Baseball, and others);  Google Maps streetview does not navigate. The problem is the same in Safari, Firefox and Chrome. Youtube videos work, though.
I have: uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, tried an earlier version of it, repaired permissions, deleted file sharing, and done everything recommended in every Mac and Flash help forum and discussion site. Nothing works. Can anyone help?

This is so very strange!
I followed the clean install info EXACTLY as it said.  When it was completed, nothing would play, despite the facet that the "allow other plug-ins" box WAS checked.  So I said to myself, maybe if I UN-check and RE-check it something will work.  While it was UN-checked a you-tube video did play.....so I attempted another....nothing.  I RE-checked and restarted the computer.  Nothing!  Every website (tried HBO, Youtube, and Hulu all on Safari AND on Firefox just in case)......all tell me that I need the "latest version of Adobe Flash player".
I believe it was HBO that said version 10.2 minimum and I believe the version I"m attempting to install is 11.9.
And I thank you kindly for any additional suggestions.  I promise you that I'm following these directions word for word....something is clearly wrong!

  • Flash Player 16.0.0.235 breaks audio driver on Windows

There is a severe bug in the latest version of Flash Player, relating to audio playback on Windows. Ever since upgrading to v16.0.0.235, Flash has been repeatedly breaking audio playback for the entire Windows system (i.e. every application that tries to play back audio, not just Flash itself). This happens regardless of the browser in which Flash is run (tested: Firefox 34.0.5 and Chrome 39.0.2171.95).
There seem to be two "levels" of crashing the audio driver. Both are triggered by simply using Flash content with audio for a while (examples in my case would be MP3 previews on Amazon.com, or YouTube videos).
In a "level 1" crash, Flash elements on pages will just suddenly stop playing back any audio. Some content, such as Amazon MP3 previews, will just skip over all the tracks as each player fails to start audio playback. YouTube videos will play for 1 second without sound, retry using a lower-quality stream, repeat until there are no more streams left and then report that there has been a playback error. No other Windows application is able to play back sound anymore either. They will either fail with some error message related to audio playback, or simply run without sound. (Examples: foobar2000, Spotify, VLC media player...).
A level 1 crash is relatively easy to fix by killing the Flash Player process. If for example the crash happened while using Firefox, I have to kill "plugin-container.exe" or the FlashPlayer executable using the task manager. Once Flash has been killed, it will restart as soon as another Flash content is being played back, and sound will be working again, in Flash and all other Windows applications. I once tried to shut down Windows while in this level 1 crash state, and the shutdown got hung up on trying to quit Windows Explorer, which reported the status message "Playing back logoff sound", which it failed to do for 5+ minutes and just kept trying endlessly. I had to cancel system shutdown, kill the FlashPlayer process first, and then I could shut down Windows.
Sometimes after a few level 1 crashes and restores, there will be a level 2 crash. Now, audio playback will not just fail for applications, but every application that tries to play back audio will freeze completely. Firefox will freeze. It thaws once I kill FlashPlayer, but will freeze again immediately if some other page content loads FlashPlayer again. A tab in Chrome that uses Flash with audio will immediately freeze. Spotify will no longer report an audio playback issue as in level 1, but will freeze when trying to play back a track. Same for any other application I tried. Unfortunately, I haven't found a fix for a level 2 crash short of rebooting the entire system. Killing all Flash-related processes wasn't enough. Not even rebooting the audio driver (by disabling and re-enabling the audio device in Windows' device manager) did the trick.
    My system specs:
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Adobe Flash Player 16.0.0.235
ASUS Xonar D2X audio interface (driver: v7.12.8.1794)
    On-board Realtek High-Definition Audio interface (driver: v6.0.1.6449)
The Realtek audio is normally not in use, but Flash will crash either audio driver, whichever is active at the moment).
After downgrading to Flash Player 15 I haven't experienced any crashes anymore.
Any help or insight is appreciated!
Edit: the issue seems to be Flash crashing the Windows audio service. I tried stopping and restarting the audiosrv and AudioEndpointBuilder services while in level 2 crash state, both of which failed because neither service reacts to stop/start commands anymore.

I have this EXACT problem as well. I'd like to add that when either 'level' of crash occurs, when I attempt to play a video or audio file through Windows Media Player, I receive the error message: "Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, and then try again" I checked on the task manager and I have plenty of RAM remaining and this error message only occurs when I am experiencing this issue so I am sure that it is caused by this.

  • Flash Player Plugin 11.3.300.262 has debug enabled

I am running Firefox 13.0.1 on a WIndows 7 Home Premium system. I have updated video drivers, and the system is kept fully patched at all times. Since the release of 11.3.300.x ( I am running 11.3.300.262) of the Flash Player plugin, it intermittently crashes at random on various websites that provide flash content. The .262 release apparently was released with debug mode turned on, according to a site that found for troubleshooting this problem.  I also get a pop-up window with some cryptic messages about something missing from the source site and I get buttons to dismiss or continue from the pop-up. If I continue the content seems to play ok, but on exiting the page, I get another pop-up box and then my browser freezes until I go into Task Manager and kill the flash-player process.
Flash-Player used to be so rock solid and now it is just an irritant. I search the web and it is littered with comments on the flash-player crashing on a full range of browser products. So any chance a fix is in the works ? This is not like Adobe to release something this buggy. Anyone run an MD5 hash on this release to see if it's been hacked ?
I sure hope it gets fixed soon...

I don't know how you got the debug Flash Player on your computer, but if that happened to me I would run a clean install, as described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/928315, then download and run the offline installers from http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header

  • Most reliable Flash Player combo

    Hey everyone,
I am looking for information about Flash Player reliability. I know from experience, that it crashes sometimes on Windows OS using Mozilla Firefox (at least in my case, don't know why). I can't stand it anymore for various reasons.
My question is: is there any Flash Player operating system + browser composition, that can make me sure that it won't crash at all? Or is there any composition that can minimize this risk to almost 0%?
    Thanks in advance.
    Br,
    Galinaf

Each version of Flash Player includes important security updates.  You always want to use the latest version of Flash Player.
Protected Mode for Firefox is an important security mitigation designed to provide defense-in-depth protections against modern malware targeting Flash Player.  To address the growing body of attacks against Firefox, we retrofit a sandboxing approach to Firefox's plugin architecture NPAPI, which originated in the 1990s.
There's a good explanation of what this looks like, here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.htm l
Flash and Firefox use a communication channel provided by the operations system called IPC (Inter-Process Communication) to pass messages. In addition to the multiple layers of abstraction introduced by Protected Mode, there are two additional layers between Firefox and our broker.  This means that each message passed between Flash and Firefox is passed through four different processes, and there are four times as many messages being passed.
What we observe when we look into the typical generic Flash/Firefox hang, is that a message is dropped or delivered out of order, and one of the parties just sits around waiting for a response that never comes.  Eventually Firefox's 30 second hang detection kicks in, and it safely kills the Flash Player process, which then triggers the crashed plugin screen.
We've spent a lot of time playing with this, and what we generally find is that disabling any of the layers in this stack, Protected Mode, PlugIn Container, etc, causes an improvement in stability.  Our working theory is that by reducing the number of messages that get passed, we don't see the problems with messages getting dropped.  We're not maxing out the message-passing capacity, and things work as intended.
Competing browsers like Google Chrome and Internet Explorer have invested heavily in creating modern plug-in architectures that offer both security and efficiency advantages.  Unfortunately, Mozilla envisions a future without plugins, and modernizing the plugin APIs to provide both security and efficiently is not a priority for Firefox.

  • Flash Player 11.3 r300 is literally killing my laptop

Sometimes when I'm watching videos on YouTube or other websites which require flash player I can't have more than 2-3 tabs open before my laptop goes nuts.
The fan starts running really loud and crazy, my laptop gets really warm and when I open the task bar, the CPU memory usage is at like 90% or higher and the file Adobe Flash Player 11.3 r300 (it's version 262 I believe) has 50 or higher under the "CPU".
This program is literally killing my laptop and I'm really afraid that my laptop will break down and I really don't want that to happen.
My laptop used to work fine but ever since a couple of months ago it has been harder and harder for it to keep up with flash programs. Now I can't even view news sites with flash banners at the side because it uses too much CPU memory.

I had a similar problem a few years back, running an old Windows XP-based PC operating with (don't laugh) 250 mb of memory.  After I upgraded the memory to 500 mb, and blew six years worth of dust from the insides of the case, the problems with the fan went away.  The CPU usage still spiked up to about 70% when watching some youtube videos, but normally ranged around 25-40%.
In order to get help, you'll probably have to put down some specs, including:
The brand of laptop you're using/how old it is.
    The operating system--windows xp/windows seven/whatever.
The amount of RAM you have installed.  (In that way, the techs can see if it meet's the basic system requirements for the newer versions of Flash Player.)
    What browser you're using--Firefox/IE/etc.
The complete version number of flash player you're using.

  • PSE 7 KILLS FLASH PLAYER

Installed new PSE 7 (not upgrade, removed PSE 3 first)on vista 32, then flash player version 9.0.115 no longer works.
Unable to re-install flash, error. Unable to install newer version 10 flash, error.
Uninstalled flash using adobe standalone uninstaller, but still flash would not install even with standalone installer. Tried all suggestions from adobe flash technical pages, cleaned registry, still no go.
Restored vista system to before PSE 7 install, removed PSE 7 and flash works fine. Upgraded flash to ver 10, works fine.
Install PSE 7, flash no longer works and will not reinstall.
Removed PSE 7 again, flash works ok.
Seems that PSE 7 is overwriting a flash file somewhere, but what?
    Any ideas, greatly appreciated.

This might occur due to PSE7 ships with 9.0.124 and hence flash player 9.0.115 might give some errors. There is a issue with the 9.0.115 version co-existing with 9.0.124.
I would suggest: once again uninstall Flash player completely and install PSE7, this should install FP 9.0.124 version on your machine.
Once Flash player is installed on the system, launch any flash file and it should ask you to automatically update the FP9 to FP10.
    Worked on my machine.

  • Flash player kills IE, Firefox et al

Three new laptops - 2 Toshibas and one HP.  All running VISTA Home Premium.  When you access a website that uses the flash player the browser starts to play the flash content and then dies.  Looks like flash is trash?  Is anyone from Adobe around?  This is a real show-stopper because the schools where two of the kids go (along with the Toshibas) use flash content on websites on their intranet for education.  Causes a real problem here.

    Quoting "BWolfe " <[email protected]>:
That's funny. How much money have you given us for Flash Player so far?
Well, the computers cost about $800/each and were purchased to access
those web apps that use Flash Player. So it looks like we're out $2400
to someone for nonfunctional machines.  According to the support tech
where we purchased them it is being caused by a known problem with
Flash - there is no 64 bit version that works.  Their recommendation
is to "upgrade" to XP or at least a previous version of the browser...
So either Adobe or Microsoft has a combatability problem.
This is an odd problem.  Here's what I'd want to test...
    1. On any of the machines, create a new ADMINISTRATOR account.
    2. Log out of your existing account and log in to the new admin account
    3. Launch IE, and install Flash Player 10.0.32.18 from
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer
    4. Still in the new admin account, test various sites such as youtube, etc..
My thought here is that something you use on your machines is
conflicting with Flash Player.  Definitely an unusual situation. And
the modules that are crashing don't show Flash Player being the
cause of the crash. There are millions of downloads of FP a day, and
hundreds of thousands of installs that match your version of Vista.
So we should be looking at factors specific to your machines.
Here's another thing I'd do, just to be on the safe side..
    1. Follow the steps in this technote to set up a Flash Player crash
    log:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/408/kb408620.html
    2. Make the thing crash
    3. Check your temp directory to see if a Flash Player .mdmp crash
log was created. That would definitely say "FLash Player crash" to
me, and we could get some analysis of the MDMP.
Oh also, check your video driver settings.   igdumdx32.dll is a
graphics accelerator for Intel graphics chips.  If you can turn
acceleration off you may have found the source of the problem.
I'd also advise that you open a support web case at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer with all this information
(because I cannot always get back here to follow up on threads.  At
least with a case you have an escalation process)
Hopefully that's enough to get you started on figuring this out.

  • Flash Player 9.0.124 Security Killing Me

    Hello all;
I am not a system admin but I am responsible for moving our
projects up to the servers and developing. I have recently built a
rather neat project using the import web service(WSDL) tool from a
.Net web service project and noticed that it was running fine on my
local box. I moved it to a dev server and we began to notice that
certain browsers would display fine and others would not. After an
entire day, I have finally realized that it was due to the version
of Flash player that was running in each browser.
I have read all of the documents that were posted at the head
of this forum, and think I have done everything correctly. I even
went back and installed Flash 9.0.124 on both Firefox and IE on my
local machine hoping that Flex Builder would give me some help in
why my application was stalling out when it connected to the web
    service site.
I have added the following to my crossdomain.xml file in the
    web service site:
Can someone tell me exactly what else I need to do? We are
running Windows Server 2003 if that helps. Do I need to set up a
web site on port 843 to do the socket policy thing? We don't have
any great national secrets or anything, we just need my Flex
project to connect to a web service and pull back some data.
The code I included is in a crossdomain.xml file located at
the root of the web service project, and the same code is in the
root of my Flex .Net container project, and practically every other
place I can think to put it.
Thank you so much! And if you can get me straight by tomorrow
morning, I'll owe you a case of beer. BTW I even tried doing the
    permitted-cross-domain-policies="all" everywhere and that didnt
    work either.

    I fixed it.
    The key to the universe:
    <allow-http-request-headers-from domain="*"
    headers="*"/>

  • Flash Player 11 update has killed Flash for me in all browser/ web pages

Hi, I updated Flash player when prompted
    Version: 11.9.900.117
Now no matter what browser all Flash media fails - most commonly (like on this very page at the top) I get the "Could not load Shockwave Flash"
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Shockwave Flash player and I guess the regular Flash player. I have updated Java. In Chrome I have done the whole enable/ disable rigmarole in every permutation. In Firefox I have tried to fix the pluginn using their internal troubleshoot which says it failed.
    What's the deal?
    Windows 7

@ktulu - Unfortunately, not all problems are the same (as you noted with the different solutions not working for you.)
I run Chrome as my primary browser and haven't encountered any problems on Windows 7 and 8.  We don't have any current widespread critical Chrome issues that I'm aware of.
Typically, you don't see Flash failing on all browsers, especially if you've tried Chrome, IE and Firefox.  These all use a different technology (PPAPI, ActiveX, and NPAPI) so it's usually something else (virus/security software, etc) if all are failing.
In Chrome, can you navigate to the "about:flash" page and copy/paste the results in a forum reply?
It might also be helpful to get a screenshot of what you're seeing.

  • Why does Flash player not work on samsung galaxy tablets?

Hello, I am wondering why they do not have flash player for samsung galaxy tab 3? I just recently got the 8.0 sized one and it has great features, but no flash player? To have an up to date electronic device, and older electronic devices carry it,but you won't put it on new devices? Is there a way to get it to work or download it? It has stopped me from viewing many different things on my tablet unfortunately and this may cause me to return it.

Android dropped all support for Flash last year (June 2012).
Going back to 2006, when Apple released the first iPhone and iOS 1, Steve Jobs was insistent that it be made incompatible with Flash Player because (in his words) playing Flash content is processor consumptive and kills batteries, and well as shortening battery life in mobile devices. Android came along a little while later, but their reason for droppiong Flash last year was the same.
Adobe continued developing "security updates" for the Flash Player that worked with older versions of Android, but even that ended in September of this year. Adobe will not continue development of a product for an incompatible format.
Android recommends either "Dolphin" or "Puffin" browser from the GooglePlay store (both are free). They use "server side" technology to play Flash content without taxing your tablet or phone's processor.

  • Unable to Install Flash Player 11.7.700.169 on OSX 10.7.5

I have tried everything I can think of to install your new version. On Sunday, I downloaded the 11.7.700.169 installation .dmg. When I double clicked on the Install Adobe Flash Player, it reported:

I got prompted for my password, and responded. Then it reports a "General Installation Failure" and stops.

This turned out to be a permissions issue for me, your milage may vary. Note: This could be dangerous, you could always backup your file perms and put them back once flash is installed.
    1. Open console on your mac, go to the system.log section
    2. Attempt to install, after it downloads and fails use the "String Matching" at the top and type in "flash"
You should get a section that looks like this:
    Jul 28 08:18:07 z.local com.apple.SecurityServer[27]: Succeeded authorizing right 'system.privilege.admin' by client '/usr/libexec/security_authtrampoline' for authorization created by '/Volumes/539481aadb965dc489df8086d78bcd5c197e5645/Install Adobe Flash Player.app' (3,0)

            NSFileCreationDate = "2013-06-21 22:45:59 +0000";
            NSFileExtensionHidden = 0;
Notice how it says "Launch path not accessible" and gives a directory of '/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n0000000000000/T/FPInstallHelper'?
chmod -R 777 * the contents of the n0000000000000/ directory and attempt to reinstall, this fixed it for me.

This could be dangerous, I'm not sure with the repercussions are. However, I do know I can use flash now. Obviously, if you aren't savy in terminal commands you shouln't be running them. I take no responsibility for any irresponsible actions, know what this means before you do it.

  • I downloaded the newest flash player 10...but it won't work.  Why?  Thread 2

I am participating the the original thread, but "eidnolb" suggested i start a new one since my setup is slightly different.
To sumarize, I have turned off my anti virus, unistalled the latest version, rebooted, installed the latest version from the desktop Adobe installer, rebooted and checked for the latest version at the Adobe site and found that it was not installed at all, although the Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX shows as an active program on my Control Panel.  No error messages either in the uninstall or install.  Also, Shockware Flash Object does not show on my Manage Add In Tool. I have done this same process many times with no success. Additionally, i have looked in my Registry and the Kill Bit Key posted in the other thread by eidnolb (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}) is not there.
System specifics.  VISTA OS.  McAfee Anti Virus and Firewall.  IE7 but I also dowloaded IE9 with the same negative result.  I went back to IE7 with the idea of resetting the system in it's original form which came with the HP computer.  (is this a good idea)
I believe this started when my system was contaminated by the E-Set Antivirus 2011 malware.  This nasty beast hijacked my IE and protects itself so that I could do nothing.  Used my laptop and Googled the malware which resulted in several sites offering solutions.  I went to bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions for getting rid of the malware.  This included starting in "safe mode with networking"  downloading a program call RKill to temporaily disable the malware and then downloading and running Malwarebytes Anti Malware.  This program cleaned the malware from the PC.  However, i don't know what it did to the registry, but I believe that's where the problem is.  There is a paper published by Adobe at  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html which describes the symptoms i've encoutered and describes a Microsoft process to reset the registry.  i'm hesitant to try it since an error would likely cause some really serious problems and i'm not an IT guy
    Anyone with suggestions?

    Thanks for your reply.
My VISTA OS is 64 bit and IE7 is 32 bit.
    The Macromed/Flash folder contains:
    Flash10p.ocx
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashUtil10p._ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil10p_ActiveX.exe
    install.log.
Tried to just copy the FlashInstall.log folder, but it wouldn't paste in this window.  Here are the contents.  Sorry it makes for such a long post.  Hope it contains some clue but it's beyond me to detect anything.

  • The Search for the Perfect Flash Player.......Help..

Okay, here's my deal, I skateboard. Alot. Obviously, there's alot of hard landing and stuff of the sort. I need a player that can stand up to this. Here's what I need and what I'd like, if anyone can recommend something that matches this exactly, I would be greatly appreciati've.
Basically, my Micro is EXACTLY what I want, minus the fact that it's a HDD MP3 player (well, for skateboarding, that is, I did want an HDD MP3 player).
<B>. A dedicated removeable rechargeable battery (not AA/AAA)</B>
<I>When MP3 players have a dedicated, non-standard rechargeable battery, the MP3 player also doubles as the battery charger. I don't want to use rechargeable AA/AAA batteries, because unless the MP3 player has a built-in AA/AAA charger (I highly highly doubt any MP3 player charges standard batteries), I'd have to be lugging around either a bunch of batteries or a AA/AAA battery charger. And that kills the point of being portable.
I listen to my music ALL DAY, usually about 2 hours or more, so it's also good to be able to remove the rechargeable battery and replace it with another one. The only exception I would accept (regarding being removeable) is if the battery really does last all day. The ONLY player I've ever had that I could take with me ALL DAY and still have enough juice to come back the next day without charging it was my Rio Nitrus (.5Gb capacity). </I>
<B>2. Drag and Drop Transfer of Songs With NO Installation of Software</B>
<I>I love the fact that I can bring my Micro to school and just plug the cable into the computer and then go grab a few CD's from their library, rip them, then transfer them to my Micro, all without having to install the ZMME software.
I love being able to just plug it in and have Windows XP recognize it as an MTP player and allow me to browse the file structure and literally drag and drop songs directly to the music folder itself without messing around with a bunch of extra software.</I>
    <B>3. A Display</B>
<I>Not all MP3 players have one. I would like to be able to have visual feedback about what song I am playing and whatnot. If it were not for this fact, I probably would have gotten an iPod Shuffle *gasp, gagging, choking*</I>
<B>4. Large Capacity (at least 52MB)</B>
<I>While Gb would be nice, I know that size comes with money, and anyways, I already have my high capacity music player (my Micro). All I need is a player that can hold at least 00 songs so I can listen to a small variety of songs that pump me to skateboard.</I>
<B><I>Things I Would Like, But Are Not Necessary</I></B>
<B>5. Ability To Create (and Save) OR Utilize Playlists</B>
<I>While it doesn't need to be able to actually create "on the fly" playlists like my Micro, I do want it to be able to somehow allow me to create a playlist, even if it's through the software that comes with it. When I skateboard, there are different songs I enjoy to hear that get me pumped for different things (getting started/warmed up, rolling around, jumping stairs, etc.). Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to hear every song on my player, and even if I am, sometimes I want to hear them in a specific order.</I>
<B>6. Moderately Small, But Not Too Small</B>
<I>Yes, there is such thing as being too small. I don't want something that looks like Barbie and Ken's boombox (at Wal-Mart they are selling this uber small MP3 player cube that is about the height of a quarter and the width of a quarter). I want it to be big enough that I have no problem with the controls, yet not too big. Anything bigger than the Micro is probably a tad too big, especially considering flash players don't have an HDD inside them, so they are relati'vely smaller in the first place.</I>
<B>7. Ability to Play WMA's In Addition to MP3's</B>
<I>I do have a converter that can convert between all audio formats, but the simple truth is that while it's not difficult at all, it can get annoying and time consuming. In addition, I have gotten alot of music from my friends. They all have WMP, so they simply rip it to their computer as WMA's. If the player supports this format, then I can simply transfer the song onto my player and start listening to it right away, instead of waiting to convert it when I got home to my computer.</I>
    <B>8. A Built-In USB Port</B>
<I>The only two players that I have seen like this are the iPod Shuffle and the Zen Nano/Nano Plus. This is a great benefit to me in the fact that I don't need any cables or anything. Literally nothing else. Just the player itself. All I have to do is plug it in and that's it. No carrying around anything else if I want music from someone's computer. So easy and convenient....</I>
<B>9. Ability to Charge the Battery Through the USB Port of a Computer</B>
<I>This is a great feature (but to be honest, unnecessary for me) of my Micro. It's really convenient to be able to just plug it into any computer's USB port (with the correct FW and being locked) and charge it. Even though computers need outlets to operate (not including laptops), sometimes all of the outlets are being used, so the ability to charge itself through the USB port is awesome.</I>
In conclusion, I love my Micro, and I do indeed skateboard with it. I have taken a few rough falls with it, but it has never suffered from it. My headphones have popped out of the jack a few times, but never had a negati've consequence from it. I love it and it's the best to me. It's everything I want in an MP3 player, but that won't change the fact that it has a HDD inside of it. And if it falls on the ground, then I'm basically watching my $200 fall into the toilet. I need a flash player that is basically a Micro clone so it can withstand bumps and bruises and jostles (yes, I know it is not recommended to bump, bruise or jostle ANY electronic, including flash players, but they ARE advertised for sports ((yes, even though not extreme sports)), and are shown to withstand movement more than HDD MP3 players.
I actually find it fascinating with all of my skateboarding (especially with my jumping down stairs and ocassional hard falls) that my Micro has never skipped a beat. Ever. I'm obviously not condoning how I treat the poor baby, but I'm just so proud of the fact that I have the little girl (haha, yes, it's a girl).
There are two MP3 players that have come oh so close to my desperate requirements, but they are both missing just one vital thing that stops me from getting either one.
    <B>Zen Nano/Nano Plus</B>
I would get this if it had a rechargeable battery (see # above) or if it could charge AAA batteries. If anyone knows if this this can recharge AAA batteries, please tell me, as I will go buy it right away.
    <B>iPod Shuffle</B>
Yes, I know, it's horrible, the iPod Shuffle actually did come into my mind and I did seriously consider buying it. However, the crippling problem with the iPod Shuffle is that it has no screen. I want visual feedback about what I'm playing, not just to go by an audible cue or remembering what songs I have on it. And since it has one major crippling factor, the fact that it's battery is not removeable kills it. The only lifting factor of it is the fact that it can charge through the USB port.
Oh yeah, I don't want an iPod Nano, either, even though it fits most of the requirements. I just can't take the scratches.......hahaha.Message Edited by RMskater on 09-26-2005 0:00 PM

<EM>AA and AAA rechargeables are great. One can usually charge up to four at a time with most chargers, and chargers that take an hour or less are available(the 5 minute chargers require special batteries and put excessi've strain on the batteries). They are also very inexpensi've. Carrying a few spares is no big deal. I have small plastic cases that were specifically made to hold 2 AA or AAA batteries and other cases specifically designed for 4 of them. I would hate to have to swap out the player battery, swap in the spare then plug the player in just to charge spares one at a time. Proprietary batteries are expensi've, while AA or AAA nimh rechargeables are often around $0 or so for 4(for the higher capacity ones. Slightly lower capacity ones are even cheaper).</EM>

  • Why doesn't the new flash player I downloaded work? Tried it several times. Firefox 6.0.2.

Every time I've tried to watch a youtube video in the past week it asks me to update my adobe flash player. I've tried at least 5 times over the course of several days and now I'm convinced that it isn't me. Apparently, you can't get tech support from adobe without spending money and if you ask me that sounds like a scam.
Every time I download it I've followed the instructions perfectly. I'm using Firefox 6.0.2. After downloading it and closing my browser like it asks, I click "retry" then "finish" and it opens up a new firefox window that says I'm running the new adobe flash player. I'll try to watch a video and it doesn't work. It seems like a frivolous thing to spend this much time fixing but I want to watch the OU/FSU game online next week and I'm afraid this issue won't be sorted out in time

I was having the same issue with installing Flash player 10.3.183.10 in both Firefox 6.0.2 and Explorer 9 -- the Task Manager would show the installer running as a process, but it would never actually install anything. It would just sit there until I killed it or rebooted.
It seems that there are multiple versions of the separate installers needed. The installer that worked for me in Firefox was
    install_flash_player_10.exe -- a 3,017KB file
    and for Explorer, it was:
    install_flash_player_10_active_x.exe -- a 3,054KB file.
Neither of those files was sent by the main updater page, nor did that page offer the 239KB uninstall_flash_player.exe, which is needed to uninstall the previous Flash version before one can even begin to try to update it. I had to pound through the messages in the forums to find links to those "full" installers.
It is working now in both browsers, but jeepers creepers, it shouldn't take all day to find the installers for something that gets updated as often as Flash does.
