10.6.8 Snow Leopard loses HP multi-function scanner connection when users are switched.

I've got 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) installed on an iMac with a USB attached HP multi-function printer/scanner/fax.
I've removed all HP software and got the latest HP drivers from Software Update.
The software was able to scan appropriately using Preview and Image Capture until my wife signed onto the computer using her id.
(She switched users and logged into her account on the same iMac.)
Upon switching back to my user id, there was 'No scanner detected.'  I removed and re-added the printer.  No luck.
(In fact, upon re-adding the printer, the connection just showed 'USB' instead of 'USB multi-function', and doesn't find a scanner.)
Rebooting solves the problem (until the next time we switch users).
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jimmy

Is it possible to run the Macgames Realmyst disc on Snow Leopard10.6.8 at 64bit?
I believe RealMyst is a "pure" is only PowerPC.  So it doesn't matter whether you boot in 32 or 64 bit but it does matter whether you installed Rosetta on your system (optional when you installed your system) to handle the ppc code.  Even with Rosetta there's no guarantees that app will run in 10.6.8.
Also RealMyst is for OSX.  SheepShaver is for emulating Clasic OS9 so forget about that.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

  • I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when I try to load the Mac Os x update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it?

I have an Intel Desktop iMac and I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when it tries to load the Mac OS X update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website  Mac OS X V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it? Any other suggestions. The printer is not working either - I am not sure if they are connected. Everything else is fine.

Please excuse, but I have to ask an obvious question: Did you already update using the Snow Leopard Retail install DVD? (You must do this first; 10.6.7 is just an update if you already have 10.6.) Are you, then, trying to update from whatever version was on the install DVD to 10.6.7?
Otherwise, I'd keep trying. The 10.6.7 Combo is a huge update.

  • Running snow leopard and cs3 works great but freezes when trying to save the photo.

I am running CS3 on snow leopard, I can edit photos great but when all is said and done...... the wheel spins continuously after selecting either save.... or save as..... and the application quits responding. it keeps spinning?
I am at a loss. Can't afford the upgrade right now. what can i do?

Could be an issue with file dialogs or volume identifiers. That stuff has changed a lot in recent versions of OSX due to its kernel going 64bit native. You might need to limit yourself to specific volume names and only use the classic file dialog view. Similalrly, this could relate to Library folders being invisible by default on 10.7 and the program trying to access what it assumes to be the default Documents folder...

  • 10.6.7 upgrade messes up my Canon MX700 multi-function print connection

I have a Canon MX700 multi-function printer connected to my Mac Pro.  I have printer sharing on and enabled in the firewall and sharing preferences.  I have an iMac that connects to this printer through the Mac Pro.  It has worked fine for years like this.
I upgraded to the latest 10.6.7 software, and that also came with new Canon printer drivers a few days ago.  Now I have printer issues.
Whenever I print from either machine, a warning box appears on the Mac Pro for 5 seconds:
Do you want the application "canonijnetwork.bundle" to accept incoming network connections?
Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior.  This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences>
    ( Deny )  ( Allow )
If I can click on the Allow button in those 5 seconds, then the job prints.  Otherwise, the print queue is paused -- some of the time.
If I open the print queue and pause, then resume the printer, I get the warning box again, with another chance to Allow.
This happens every time.  I went to the firewall and sharing and printer preferences and made sure that everything was allowed, but to no avail.
I power cycled the machines and printers, but no change.
I am thinking that this is a bug in the new security upgrade, or the new drivers.
Can someone else verify that this is happening to others?
Any suggestions on how to get permissions to stick?

Thanks for the reply.  I just tried that, but the problem did not go away.  I did notice that in the print queue status window, when I am printing from the same machine, says "A communication error has occurred." if I do not click the Allow button in time.
I just tried turning my firewall off, and everything went back to normal.  The canonijnetwork.bundle is listed as accepting connections.  Printer sharing is also listed as accepting connections.
So, I turn the firewall back on again, and the problem starts up again -- even though it says that all are still accepting network connections.

  • Airport Time Capsule Problems Since Snow Leopard - Loses Connections

I did a straightforward install of Snow Leopard on the iMac 24 and it went fine. I have very few apps on it so nothing weird running to cause two issues:
1 - Time Machine backups to a Time Capsule have become slow and unreliable. Also, even 10-100 MB file transfers to a MacBook Pro 17", also on Snow Leopard, took the longest time.
2 - The Airport/WiFi icon will often go from being a static icon with full signal to one in which each curved concentric level bar flashes one by one up from the bottom dot to the topmost arc, and then back down, and back and forth. This often happens in the middle of Time Capsule backups. Holding down the mouse on the icon shows my network still connected, but the backup fails, and any web page attempted will also report there is no network.
I wonder if others have had similar problem(s).
    Imran

I am also having very strange problems with 10.6.1 and TC. The network disconnects for no apparent reason, frequently. It seems to be tying up both of the phone lines too, because once the TC reconnects to the network, the telephone no longer works (it says "line busy" and remains that way until and unless I unplug the TC). Plugging directly into the cable modem works fine, no problems at all with the telephones or with the network disconnecting at random. All three macs on my home network (macbook, MBPro and iMac) are updated to 10.6.1. At first I thought the problem might have been the modem itself but it works fine; it's only when the TC is connected that the weirdness happens.

  • Upgraded to snow leopard, now safari scrolls a page down when space bar is hit and sometimes crashes.  Any ideas for a fix?

I just upgraded to the new snow leopard, now my Safari is acting loopy.  At times, the page will scroll down when I hit the space bar.  As I type this discussion the screen isn't paging down, but if I go to the tab where I have facebook loaded and hit the space bar, it acts as a page down key.  I've had safari crash about 5 times tonight for no apparent reason.  The delete key sometimes will act as a page back key.  I really have no idea whats going on.
I've had keyboards go wacko on me before due to something being spilled on them or a wireless problem, but this keyboard is a wired keyboard and nothing was spilled on it.  It's rather new and I'm quite certain it's not a keyboard issue.
No settings have been changed on the computer.  The only thing different today from yesterday, is the fact that I upgraded to snow leopard.
    Help would be pretty sweet.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • I have iPhone 4 with newest update and Mac laptop with Snow Leopard and current version of iTunes. When I hook the phone up via USB, iPhoto pops open and reads the pictures for import, but iTunes doesn't do anything. Not seeing the device as a USB, either

Sorry, thought that was the body of the question, so the title is long. When I plug in my iPhone 4 (newest update) into my Mac laptop (current version of iTunes, Snow Leopard), it does not read the music, apps, etc., or open iTunes at all. It syncs the pictures, but it doesn't not show as a USB device, either. I have gone through the Troubleshooting assistant, restarting both comp and laptop, using different USB ports, etc. If it is of note, when I look at the option to Sync through Wifi on the phone, it says that sync will happen when my computer (by name) is "available." Not sure if this is a phone issue or laptop, leaning towards laptop, since iPhoto syncs. Willing to buy Lion if that will fix the problem! I would appreciate any help that is given.
    Regards,
    Lindsey

You have written a very long story, and I admit I have skipped most of it.  But I think the question is you are on iOS 7, and cannot get the latest version of iTunes (11.1.5) on your computer because your OS X is too old.
The fact that you chose not to update your hardware does not mean you could not update your software!
OS X 10.5 is very old (about four years).  iTunes 11.1.5 (current version) requires at least OS X  10.6.8 to run.  Very likely, you could upgrade your computer's software to at least OS X 10.6.8 and then download the current iTunes on it.
    You would start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Then you would update the OS X 10.6 to OS X 10.6.8 over the air, then download iTunes (or update to a later OS X, as the current version is 10.9.2).

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.1 will not connect to Kyocera Mita Copystar

I have a Macbook Pro running the latest version of OS X v10.6.1.
In our office we have a Copystar (Kyocera Mita) CS-2550 on a network.
Down the hall we have a Windows XP machine that connects to the CS-2550, and in settings I have found it connects via TCP/IP, with an IP address something like 192.68.##.##
When I first got my Macbook Pro in February 2009 I was able to connect to this network copier/printer. In July I had to reformat this hard drive and reinstall OS X, then recently installed Snow Leopard. Not until last week did I try to reconnect to the CS-2550.
I went to the Copystar site and downloaded Kyocera Mita OSX 10.4 & 10.5 installer v 1.0.
Is this the correct file to download and install?
Is there another file I should also download and install?
Is Snow Leopard, 10.6.1 not compatible with Copystar CS-2550?
I installed the file and in System Preferences / Print & Fax / Open Print Queue / it reads..... "The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer's software or contact the manufacture for assistance."
I know that my Mac saw the printer, because during Printer Setup it found "Kyocera Mita CS-2550 (KPDL) without me having to type that in.
    Please help if you can.
    Thank you,
    Dan

  • Trying to update iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard and unable due to no Intel proccesor. Are all new upgrades going to be unavailable? What is the last available upgrade?

I'm trying to update my parent's iMac G5 with OS X Snow Leopard and unable to do so because it doesn't have an Intel processor. Are all new upgrades going to be unavailable? What is the last available upgrade? Is it possible to get an Intel processor installed?

Actually you can upgrade to snow leopard.  I have an iMac G4 and upgraded to snow leopard by installing it using an external DVD RW drive.  It was complicated but it worked.  I ended up going back to using tiger though.  I liked it better the simple old school way.

  • Snow Leopard crashes if ML WDE drive connected

I have a couple of computers with Mountain Lion installed on an internal drive. I occassionally boot them in Snow Leopard using an external HD (to use a software program that is incompatibvle with Mountain Lion). But, if FileVault is on in Mountain Lion on the internal drive, I can not start up the computer using the external Snow Leopard drive. What seems to be happening is as Snow Leopard starts up, when it sees the internal drive and tries to read it, it crashes (gray screen with "You need to restart your computer" in several languages). Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution (besides turning FileVault off in the Mountain Lion install).
BTW: starting up Snow Leopard with the Mountain Lion drive removed works fine. Then attaching the Mountain Lion drive also works fine (it can't be read because it is encrypted using Mountain Lion, but at least it doesn't cause Snow Leopard to crash). The problem seem to be just when Snow Leopard is starting up.
    Thanks.

That is a pretty major crash you are experiencing. It reads like a Kernel panic and this is often a result of faulty hardware or third party apps. I remember having a G4 Powerbook that would do the same whenever I tried to play a DVD. Turns out one of the memory slots was faulty and when the data was being buffered to play the movie this was causing the crash.
At this stage I suggest you try a different printer driver to the HP drivers you are using. With a bit of luck the HP will support PCL or Postscript, meaning that you will be able to create another print queue using the Generic PCL or Postscript drivers. If this allows you to print without the crash then you can concentrate on removing the HP software and looking for updated drivers or alternatives.
If the problem stays when the generic drivers are being used then you may have a hardware fault, such as RAM. If you can access the RAM in your Mac you could remove it, give the copper contacts a clean with an eraser (the pen erasers work the best but are harder to obtain than the pencil erasers) and add them back. If you have two RAM chips then you could look at only removing one to see if the problem continues.
    Good luck.

  • L/R 2 - Snow Leopard - "Jams": Re-start req'd. - when using Adj. Brush

When using the Adjustment Brush, in L/R2, quite often L/R jams up (spinning beach ball) & requires a re-start.  ALL editing previously done to that photo disappears and thus the photo needs to be re-edited from the beginning. (Annoying).  Also ALL adjustment sliders move erratically, in a "jerky" fashion, resulting is sudden adjustments being made to the photo, as well.   These issues only appeared after Snow Leopard installed.  Each photo I normally edit, (in RAW) is around 20-25Mb.  It seems as though Snow leopard is the issue here, but are is there anyone else out there that have experienced this issue and does anyone have a solution.  I use a Power Mac and normally do not have issues with memory, etc. I have been told that my Video Card is OK, being a 512Mb Nividia, running : 1 x 30", plus: 1 x 26" NEC Monitors.  Any advice or assistance welcomed.  Cheers. Hyrom Jones.

Thanks Ian, your info was useful.
I was opening L/R in 32 bit mode and not 64, as you suggested.  That change appeared to assist.  The sliders for the "clarity" settings as well as other sliders move a little more smoothly, even though you cannot rush them, but that is not what editing is all about. Overall, an improvement appears relevant.
I am running Mac O/S 10.6.2 and have previously "optimised" the L/R catalog.
Speaking about catalogs with L/R, is it necessary to keep all the previous catalogs that have been "backed up over time, or can I delete those previous ones, to save disk space. ???  Your comments appreciated.
I have some Catalogs going back to late 2007, which I do not think the L/R uses anymore.  I normally back up my catalog after edting a Shoot, but usually do not back it up during that editing process. Some of my shoots have around 500 to 600 photos, so as you can see my editing processes are normally quite lengthy, at least a week or so.
Last Question: I transfer some of my images to Photoshop CS4 for additional editing, I noticed that I have the option of starting photoshop, using "rosetta". Can you briefly describe to me what "rosetta" is and means ???  and whether it would be any advantage for me to start P/S in that mode.  I transfer images from L/R to P/S, by "right clicking" on the image in L/R  and selecting the "edit in P/S" command.
As always, your comments are welcomed and appreciated.  Cheers. Hyrom.

If you're having a problem with a specific plugin, you need to contact its author for support. If you have problems with all your plugins, then it's a different matter. Is that the case?

  • Recent update to Snow Leopard. Now itunes missing any device when connecting..

I have a Macbook Pro. I recently upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Now when I connect any device (Touch, Ipad, Iphone 3gs) via the USB cable, itunes no longer automatically starts nor does it have the Device shown on the left side of the screen. iPhoto auto starts and sees the devices. Have I somehow "hidden" my devices? Any advice would be much appreciated. Along with my devices (phone, ipad and ipod), I manage my kids ipod touches and they want new apps.

Quit iTunes. Open a Finder window and go to User Name>Library>Preferences. Find the file com.apple.iTunes.plist and take that out to the desktop. Open iTunes. iTunes will act like its the first time that you're opening it but your playlists, play counts, ratings will be intact. See if iTunes recognises the iPod now.
