10.6.8 updater continually hung up at 'about a minute'
I typically don't like to update exactly because of these kind of unforeseen complications, but because Flash was messing up, and to update flash I needed to update Safari, and to update to 5.1, I needed to update to 10.6.8......just a chain of problems. So in attempting to actually update with the 10.6.8 combo installer, for the past half hour or so it's been stuck near the end at 'about a minute' left, with no foreseeable end in sight. Am I the only one hapless enough to be stuck with this nonsense? It's like I'm losing functionality with each step taken to get 'up to date', and words are insufficient to express just how incredibly frustrating it is to watch your machine devolve in front of you just trying to fix the simplest Flash problem.
What's worse I fear should I cancel or restart the installation then that's 2 gigs of space lost to nothing, will I ever get them back? Who knows......but certainly a system update should not proceed this lopsided and ineffectively, for what is honestly a first in utter disappointment with Apple.
Try downloading it from the Apple site. Set Safari to download to the desk top:Safari preferences>general>save downloads to desktop. Download to desktop, and run the installer:

I tried downloading Firefox again manually... from Firefox I got an error message about not being able to open the source. So, I downloaded from Chrome. This worked but Firefox loaded right up with the same problems. I would use the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" menu to reset to factory defaults, but when I click on "Troubleshooting Information" nothing happens (nothing happens when I click on anything within the menu).
It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is interfering otherwise.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps. -
Good morning everyone,
Since the most current version of itunes has become available for update, I will periodically get update notices to upgrade my existing version of itunes.
The problem (which, BTW, has never happened before in the 2 - 3 years I've had itunes on my WIN XP Pro SP3 computer)...is the update will proceed normally for about 10 minutes, then a dialog box opens stating that "A network resource needed is unavailable." It also offers the option to look elsewhere for a particular .msi file which it claims it cannot find (at the C:\...\.. link it displays...with a [BROWSE] button beside it.
Does ANYONE have ANY idea just what is happening here and how to resolve this very, increasingly-annoying, issue? As I indicated earlier...this issue has NEVER happened before. ALL previous updates have completed without incident. I have also tried doing updates from other Internet sites with the same unacceptable results.
NOTE: Itunes is ONLY on my WIN XP Pro computer. I have NO Ipad, Ipod, Iphone, etc.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
Lion OSX install: "about one minute remaining" for 2 hours!... is it hung up?
I am loading Lion OSX over Snow Leopard (after doing Snow Leopard updates) and Lion the install is hung up with "about one minute remaining". It has been like this for over two hours. Should I do a hard shutdown and retry install or just let it go on overnight hoping that it will have finished by tomorrow morning? This is a new harddrive with Leopard then Snow Leopard and now Lion. Mid 2007 iMac. 3gig RAM.

Go to Applications > Utilities > DiscUtility and repair permissions for your HardDrive just to make sure nothing has been jostled around during the install. Never hurts to do this.

I went to do the latest update on my iphone 4s, and it said to connect to itunes so I did and continued to click restore and then it updated my phone through itunes. Then after about 40 minutes of it updating it still has the connect to itunes screen on. It won't go away and I have tried restarting and turning off my phone various ways various times. I don't know what to do!
Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything... and you must continue with the Recovery...

"Java Update" continually pops up on my computer saying I need to download the latest version (8.25). Even after downloading this latest version, this notice still pops up. I am worried it is a potential virus?

When I start Firefox, about 15 seconds after I start it, my Firefox freezes for about 1 minute. I found out that it is my Hotmail that makes Firefox freeze.
First I thought it was my computer, but I have 2 other girls in my class that use Hotmail and Firefox and their computer also freezes for 1 full minute.
This is very annoying, what can I do to change this?

Thanks for the update with the great news that you found and got rid of those fragments that were extending your intended export time. Great job since those are not the easiest to find.
The iphone video export situation can relate to several factors. Do you have any problems importing it into a project? And, if you can import it, is the audio usually out of sync on the Timeline? Premiere Elements (many versions) does not do well with cell phone video and video from other devices that record with a variable rather than a constant frame rate. The symptoms of this variable frame rate matter range from Timeline audio out of sync to not being able to import this video at all. The remedy for that situation is to take the video into a program like the free HandBrake and convert it to H.264.mp4 with a constant frame rate. Then import that H.264.mp4 into your Premiere Elements project.
But, we need to check out the export details to assure that we are not using the variable frame issue to cloud some export issues as well.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements? What specific error message do you get if you export your Timeline to MPEG, AVCHD, Windows Media Player, or QuickTime?
Please review and consider, and then we will comment on this further based on your reply.

I'm having trouble updating my iphone 4 since i updated to 4.3.3 i can't update it anymore. initially itunes would let me go so far as downloadin the new software then an error poped up as soon as the download finished, and now when i connect it to my itunes, itunes freezes for about 5 minutes then says something like "could not load sync service, reconnect or try again later" any ideas on what i shud do?

Question: I've have upadated to the latest Itunes software but since doing so I've have had nothing but problems and yes
I have unloaded and reloaded at least 4 times. Now when I try to open Itunes using the short cut on the desk top it takes about 4 minutes or longer for the Itunes to start and then it freezes for about another 2 to 3 mintues and then starts. This happen everytime I try to open Itunes now. I even deleted Itunes from my hard drive and put it on my SSD to see if it would work and still nothing. I've always been pretty good at sloving my problems. But this one has me stumped. Is there anyone who as had this problem that would be willing to help me out. Router25. P.S. It only happen with this one application of software. Everything else loads up fast. This comput is about 1-1/2 years old. Most people would love to have this computer. 9 out of 10. Please help me someone. I ready have a grey beard and it getting grayer.Restore from backup. If the issue continues, restore as new.

I conneced the Apple TV and it worked fine at first. It has worked well for some time. We are using them in our school this year, as well as converting to all apple products. I have been able to pull up my computer screen through Apple TV onto our projectors. However, tonight when I started apple TV, the mirroring icon came up, and everything seemed fine. Then a message came up that the Apple TV Box needed an update. I clicked on the button to run it now, and it seemed fine. The mirroring worked for about 5 minutes after the update, then I got a screen that had a picture of the Apple TV Box and a USB cord directed toward a picture of the iTunes icon. The light on the frontof the component flashed, and I couldn't go to the menu at all. I wouldn't do anything. I no longer cold see the Airplay/mirroring icon on my computer either. I tried to shut everything off and reboot the computer and the Apple TV box. However, none of this worked.
Any suggestions??? I'm a high school football coach, and this is how our team will watch film this year. I really need to get this rectified by the end of the week, as our team will go into camp for the next two weeks.Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?) touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.

Hate to say it. I isolated this to only be happening with email/Mail program. Then ran Sophos Virus detector on it and it did show a trojan virus in my email spam folder. I eliminated it ; ran disk utility a couple of times and I am good now. Spent the whole day on it though before I thought of using a virus scan... as soon as I started running sophos it stopped sending me the two minute timer as well--so just opening the virus software was able to disengage whatever was happening. My computer is all mac --no PC interface added at all. Hope that was that. Thank you for responding.

After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:
Copy QTMovieWin.dll from: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
And that did the trick.
