10.6 Server SUS compatibility ?

Greetings
Does anyone know what OS versions 10.6's software update server will cache and serve? Can I keep 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 clients updated with one 10.6 server SUS setup?
Thanks much in advance

Given that 10.5's SUS has always included updates for 10.4 systems, I see no reason to think that 10.6 won't continue to support older versions, too.
However, I'm not about to upgrade any of my servers to .0 release, so I can't say for sure

  • SQL Server Express compatibility with Windows 8.1 - Which version(s) are compatible?

We have purchased a new computer that has Win 8.1 Pro. We are migrating an application from a Win 7 Pro machine we are currently successfully using (the vendor migrates it for us) and they have said that the application will require the installation of SQL
Server 2008 Express (which we do have on our Win 7 machine).
In looking at the requirements for SQL Server 2008 Express (on the download page for it), it does not mention it being compatible with Win 8.1
In addition, Installation Instructions  says that it requires:
     Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
     Windows Installer 4.5.
     Windows PowerShell 1.0
I see that 3.5 is already listed as a program feature of Win8.1 and I've enabled it. Do I need to install SP1? I downloaded it, and launched it, and nothing happened.
I also looked at the Windows Installer 4.5 download page, and it's not clear if that is compatible with 8.1. Do I need to download and install it?
Power Shell 2.0 is already installed. I assume that will be backwards compatible with PowerShell 1.0; is that correct?
I saw another question about SQL Server Express Compatibility with Win 8.1 (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/038ec00e-4fc1-41ba-9fdc-21c022aad67e/action?threadDisplayName=sql-server-express-compatibility-with-windows-81) and the response
said that SQL Server Express 2012 will work, but the link contained in the answer led to a page for SQL Server Express 2014.
My vendor has told me that SQL SERver Express 2012 will be backwards compatible with their product. But they said that I would first have to install 2008 first. Is that correct for Win 8.1?
    So, the ultimate questions are:
    1. What is the link for Sql Server 2012 Express for Win 8.1?
    2. Will the SQL Server 2012 Express download require prior install of the 2008 version
    3. What other component requirements are required for SQL Server 2012 Express, and how can I determine if they have already been installed. (This is a brand new computer with a clean Win8.1 Install).
    4. Finally, can we use the 2014 version of SQL Server Express for Win 8.1? If so, questions 1, 2 and 3 apply, too.
Thanks for your help on this!! HIGH ANXIETY.

  • Using internal software update server (SUS) with iTunes

We are using an internal software update server (SUS) to manage the release of patches, etc. to our mac clients. There are no known issues with this server or the process. However, it appears that iTunes is still checking Apple's website first for updates, and by-passing our internal server. So we have Mac clients indicating an update to iTunes is available, but when software update is launched, no iTunes updates are available from our internal server, since we have not released them internally yet.
Is there a setting in iTunes that we can change so that iTunes checks our internal SUS site first?

You need to look at this from the server side, not
    the client side.
Open Server Admin, connect to your server and look at
the list of updates that Software Update has
available. Specifically check if there are any blue
warning icons alongside any update. These are updates
that the server has not yet downloaded from Apple,
and therefore are not available to clients.
I've seen this happen periodically on my SUS. The fix
is annoying, but simple just stop and restart the
SUS. It should download the pending updates and make
    them available to clients.
Thanks for the reply. Actually there were blue exclamation points next to newer updates, yet I just waited and the server finished downloading and mirroring them and then they went away. The screenshots above were taken when there were no exclamation points in the software list and when all the updates were available in the list.

Yes there can be difference and impact there are few features deprecated in SQL Server 2012 you must be aware about that. Please see

  • Lion server SUS not responding/weird behavior

    Hi all,
I've a new mini Lion server set up and updated to 10.7.4. Tested most of the services fine and decided to set up its software update service for our Macs in the office. I followed the instruction scattered around on the internet and used Server Admin to set up the SUS. After a few days it is still downloading some old packages (we have mostly Leopard clients) but I see that a lot have been downloaded and enabled. So I went ahead and try to deploy the service to our Macs.
When I use the URL Apple suggested "http://su.domain_name.com:8088/index.sucatalog", my clients said my server wasn't responding and that I need to check my network connection. I searched around and realized it happens to lots of people with Snow Leopard server upgrading to Lion and some people suggested that we should point the URL to "http://su.domain_name.com:8088/catalogs.sucatalog" and I tried that and it seems to be working on one of my Lion, well at least there weren't any error, but since all my Lions are updated, it just said the computer is up to date. I thought it worked and decided to upgrade one of the Leopard to Snow Leopard.
After updating to Snow Leopard, the Mac obviously needed a lot of updates. Since it is a managed client, I had no problem depolying the SUS to it with Workgroup Manager. After a restart, I tried doing the software update thing and it successfully connected to my Lion server (because there is my server URL on the window title) and in a second or so it found some updates and showed me the usual "show detail, not now, install" prompt but before I had a chance to click anything, an "attached prompt" pop up from the title of the "show detail, not now, install" prompt telling me that the computer is up to date and all I can do is click the "quit" button which closes both prompts together.
So now I'm painfully trying to update that Snow Leopard from Apple servers which just the OS X combined update alone is going to be like 3 hours. What did I do wrong with the SUS? What can I do/test to solve this problem?
Any help would be great! Thanks!!

I figured it out and have posted all the details on my blog:

  • Project Server 2010 compatibility with IE11 and Windows 8.1

    Hi All!
Maybe a silly question since compatibility is always asked about older versions, but here is my question:
Is Project Server 2010 compatible with IE11 and Windows 8.1?
I personnaly tested with IE11 and it seems to be ok. All views and pages can be opened with IE11.
    But what about windows 8.1?
Has Microsoft done any communication about this?
Thanks in advance for your helps.

I am seeing a minor issue with the timesheet grid after users are upgraded from IE8 to IE11.
We are using Project Server 2010 with SP1 and Oct 2013 CU.
When some users (using IE11) switches between filters or views in the Timesheet page, the grid shrinks making to content un readable.  The only way to get it back is to refresh the page. After a refresh, the grid returns to normal size, but the pane
divider is too far to the left and always must be dragged to the right in order to see the task names in the left grid.

  • Leopard Server SUS "SUCatalogLoaderException" failures

[Posted to Apple Feedback site...anybody else experiencing this?]
    Hello--
For about a month now, I've been getting a SUS swupd_sync error on numerous Mac OS X 10.5 Servers that I maintain when trying to download the software update catalogs from Apple servers. Since around Oct 12th, on previously working SUS setups, I've been seeing the following in my logs:
    Sat Nov 10 23:58:14 michaelscott.c5consulting.net swupd_syncd[68758] <Info>: Started
Sat Nov 10 23:58:32 michaelscott.c5consulting.net swupd_syncd[68758] <Error>: swupd_syncd failed with SUCatalogLoaderException: We've been foiled by the SUCatalogLoader: no local display name. Drat.
Consequently, any new updates are not being added to the SUS lists on these servers. Other 10.6 - 10.8 servers are not showing signs of trouble. Any idea if a change to the Apple mirrors or their catalog files is causing this? I figured it might clear on its own, but after a month has passed, I don't see any sign of that. I need these systems to be able to use SUS, please!
    Thanks,
    Fred

    Fred,
This is for you if you still have problems.  I saw your name everywhere and constantly as I got rerouted to the same 5 posts about SUS running on old powerpc servers when I was trying to fix mine.  I am now serving all updates 10.5-10.8 with G5 server.
I never post anything ever online but I wanted to make sure you got the fix (and anybody else) as they were trying to make everything that SHOULD work on strong powerpc servers work, which is nearly everything since its web protocols and such.
The solution is very simple IF you had the working stuff going before using the methods found in:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2169042
which is the thread you list as using in one of your other threads discussing details before it stopped working (with ML release I have figured out).
I simply checked my catalog names using a ML install.  They were right.  But in doing that I had done some web searches for ML software update server catalogs, names, or whatever.  Somebody in one of those threads (I am not going to find that one) said ML now uses HTTPS instead of HTTP.
I changed 'http' to 'https' in mirror config file with everything else identical to prior methods from Jan and it worked immediately downloading the updates and making the symlinks as instructed in those methods showed all updates.  Im running 7 gigs of RAM and show absolutely 0 performance impact on anything, malloc errors, or anything else I saw you had going at various times so not sure about that.  Did want you to know it works flawlessly with just that simple change.  Probably some other people will be happy to read this also.
Incidentally, later post on page 3 gives a great way to configure WGM to handle computers logging in and get the right update catalog.  Im using that as well and it seemed to identify properly so far.  Thanks to that poster for that.
I have found this other thread where somebody got more advanced than me and did some rewritecond using variables that the system figures out first which I think must do what I did very simply, only more complicated.  Its listed as 10.6 though and seems silly when you look at what I did:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4026496?start=0&tstart=0
Others note success but its very complicated compared to what I am doing, ESP if you already set it up this way before and have been following this at all waiting for a fix.
Hope this benefits somebody as it may be the last thing I ever post like this.
    Bye
PS - I'm adding this error message to this fix because this is what you start to get when it breaks down if you setting up from scratch instead of having had it set up and then ML came out, SUS protocol changed to https, but you had catalogs already, that now just won't update.  That should be a different error I never saw because I was setting up from new.  Good Luck and I hope this saves some time, and gives some good use back to some powerpc servers.
<Error>: swupd_syncd failed with SUCatalogLoaderException: We've been foiled by the SUCatalogLoader: no local display name. Drat.

  • Smartview 11.1.2.2.300 Essbase Server & APS Compatibility

We want to add LRO's to data cells, but we can't get it working. As stated in the thread title, we use Smartview 11.1.2.2.300 and Essbase Server 11.1.2.1.00.
The core of the problem is that the 'Linked objects' button in the Essbase-ribbon in Excel can't be clicked somehow. Every function of Smartview is working fine, just the Linked Objects function doesn't work. Do we have to enable this function on the Essbase Server-side, or can we fix this problem in another way?
    Thanks in advance!
Edited by: AsjenW on Oct 15, 2012 4:58 PM

I've discovered that the other functions of the latest Smartview release also don't work. Our guess is that Essbase Server and APS also need to be updated. The question is: to which version? Which patches should be applied, does anybody know that?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Music server software compatibility

Hello. I have a Lenovo EMC px4-300d and I am looking for a software that allows me to use it as a music server without a computer, directly attached to an ethernet capable DAC (PS Audio Direct Stream). I am wondering if this NAS is compatible with either Minimserver or Plex, or if Twonky 8 culd be used as an alternative for this use. In any case, which control SW can i use; Jremote? Many thanks in advance.

    Hello ridom
I recommend checking at the PSA forums here.  As for the twonky server built into the px4, it is UPnP and DLNA compatible.  I can't say for certain which DLNA/UPnP remote would work with the specific application you are going for.
I can advise that the Twonky server's control interface can be accessed by entering the px4 ip in this format, ipaddress:50599  Jremote might be able to controll the twonky server, but I believe the PS Audio Direct Stream would need to support UPnP/DLNA.
Technically other media server applications can aggregate media data from the unit. However there is not an official Minimserver or Plex app that can be natively ran on the px4.
Sorry I do not have more info on this, hope you are able to get it to work, sounds interesting.

  • Small Business Server 2003 Compatibility with Oracle 10G, licensing?

    Hello all,
Is Windows SBS 2003 compatible with Oracle 10G, I looked at the compatibility and didn't notice it but I wanted to see if anyone here had any experience with the two.

The licensing isn't by cpu slots, it's by the number
of cores times a multipier, which I believe for intel
is .5, so if you have a cpu w/ 2 cores, you would
purchase a 1 cpu license. If you have a quad core
cpu, you would need to purchase a 2 cpu license. I
would definitely talk to your sales rep about this to
make sure the multipier is right (and if it has
changed w/ intel quad technology). Thanks Jim. The multiplier used above for Intel is indeed correct. However, Oracle has (in the last few weeks) introduced the term 'socket' into it's licensing metrics as follows:
"When licensing Oracle programs with Standard Edition One or Standard Edition in the product name, a processor is counted equivalent to an occupied socket. See http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf "
    To quote another source (CRN):
"..Standard Edition was licensed for servers with up to four single-core processor cores. For multicore chips, users could only license it for up to eight cores total. Oracle's formula was to multiply the number of cores by 0.50 to get the CPU license number to determine price. So a four-core box counted as two CPUs.
Now Standard Edition can be licensed on servers with up to four sockets, or four processors running one-, two- or four-core chips (and possibly a higher number of cores)." This source overlooks to mention that the multiplier relates to Intel!

  • RH Server 9 compatibility with Windows Server 2008 SP2/SQL Server

Our tech support people are preparing for a first install of RH Server 9. They have asked me to find out whether there is a recent patch that would enable it to work with Windows Server 2008 SP2 64 bit and MS SQL Server 2008.
If there is not yet a patch, will there be one for this OS/DB combination in the future, and when?
This is in reference to the knowledgebase article at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/884/cpsid_88483.html which gives a "not recommended" status to this combination.
Our infrastructure team would prefer to use this combination if it is possible.
Second question from the tech team: Do we need to separate the RoboHelp application from the database or can they both reside on the same server?

To answer your first question, no there is no patch to allow SQL Server 2008 to run on a 64 bit server. To answer your second question, I don't know. This is a user to user forum and therefore we are not party to any discussions on when or if a patch will be released. You could sumbit a feature request which the Adobe RoboHelp Product Manager will get. This will help advance your case. You can submit it here:
