10.6 'Spaces' enable with hot corner?

Just optimising my Macbook with various programs and finally come across "spaces" which i've never had time to delve into!
Im on 10.6.4 and wondered (as im so used to expose') whether i could get my 4 'Spaces" to show with the mouse going down to the bottom left corner instead of Expose?
Is this possible in Spaces preferences? all i can see is doing it via keys?
Surely you could do this by a hot corner and get all 4 spaces/programs to fill the screen in a grid so i can easily switch between them? (and probably disable the corner in Expose?)

  • IMac display won't sleep with hot corner

I saw that this question was asked before but no answer was given. I got my iMac OS X Yosemite 10.10 brand new yesterday. I set up hot corners so that the display will go to sleep when I swipe it. However, no matter how carefully I swipe, it always comes right back on. I cannot get the display to sleep.
What am I doing wrong? Your advice would be appreciated.

  • OS 10.8 just installed. "Hot Corner" to put new iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5  to sleep mode doesn't work. Have tried cordless and corded mouse with same result. Momentary sleep, immediate wake. Any idea how to fix?

Set "hot corner" to put iMac to sleep.  Doesn't work.  Selecting the corner will momentarily put to sleep, but immediately rewakes.  Have tried all four corners with same result.  Have tried with wireless mouse and with corded mouse with same result.  Any ideas as to how to fix?

You've been so great, I want to thank you for all the help over a very frustrating day.  Last evening, I redownloaded and installed the fresh copy of Mountain Lion.  The problem remained.  After installing the new OS 10.8, any clicks on a web page (Firefox browser) didn't open the page, but instead made a copy of the page on the desktop. Felt it must be hardware  degrading, so I set up a case with Apple support for today.  Early in the diagnostics, I had swapped out for a corded mouse and the problem remained.   As a last try, I changed out my wireless mouse for a different wireless mouse. That seems to have done the trick. My Logitech mouse is incompatible with OS 10.8.
    Thank you again, so much!

  • Google Chrome freezes with the pinwheel until I move my mouse to the Hot Corner. Why?

Help me! I am using Google Chrome (Version 28.0.1500.95) on a Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 1.7.5) and it keeps freezing with the rainbow pinwheel of death until I move my mouse into the Hot Corner. Once it's gone to the pinwheel I can't use any other application until I move to the Hot Corner. It goes back straight away but it's getting to the stage now that it's freezing every 20 seconds.
Is it a virus or a problem with Chrome? What can I do to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Alex

A number of users have reported problems using Google Chrome.  There seems to be an incompatibility with it and Mac OSX.  I suggest that the simple solution is to uninstall Google Chrome and use Firefox, Safari or Opera instead.

  • Is there a way to view just one open Finder window (without any other Finder or other application windows coming into view) from a Desktop hot corner in Yosemite?

I just upgraded to Yosemite from Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. Previously, I could view just one open Finder window by viewing the Desktop via a hot corner and then selecting Finder from the Dock. This would pull only the top Finder winder into view, without showing any other open Finder windows, and most importantly, any other open application windows. I could then easily drag files/folder from my Desktop into the Finder window (which I do A LOT). Since upgrading to Yosemite, whenever I use the Desktop hot corner and select Finder from the Dock, it pulls every open application and Finder window back into view, putting Finder in front.
Is there any way to view just one already open Finder window (or all Finder windows for that matter) without seeing all other open applications, without having to Hide the other applications or using Spaces?

Yes I've created an Automator Application that does the job, but the "watch me do" function that does the Mail Merge is a rather Clunkey work around, as the mouse moves all over the place, thats the part i want to remove and replace with a script, or work out a different way around it that avoids the "watch me do" function.
Is this Possible? or where/who is there i can ask to write me a script, im not a novice to scripting, but i am a novice to Applescript.

  • Hot Corner as Droplet via AppleScript?

    Hi there,
Could it be technically possible to make hot corner run as a droplet? It's feasible to open applications, files, scripts etc from hot corners by using programs like cornerclick, butler etc but none of them has any support for drag and drop. Has AppleScript means to do that? For example this would be by far the fastest way to tag and copy an image(via automator workflow) from Safari, Finder etc by requiring almost no precision compared to bringing up hidden dock and aiming for specific icon(droplet).
    Thanks,
    Üllar

Till now I was using download folder to drop images and folder action was monitoring for any new files then to be opened with tagging application as HD suggested. The problem was that this method was not instantaneous and sometimes could skip quite a many images when they were added too fast. Save Image to "Downloads" would be even better solution compared to dragging, but somehow it skips the Where from: address info and I had to create an Automator workflow which inserts source URL from Safari into file spotlight comments, but also this folder action was sometimes very slow to react and the page in Safari was closed.
iPhoto is too heavy/slow program which I would avoid from my workflow. I was looking into it only to see how it is getting around the sandboxing, but I guess it's only due to being Apple's own product so no avail.
I have managed to find a workaround but it's ridiculously complex though quite fast. It uses six! different applications so it's far from straightforward. First the BetterTouchTool translates double triple tap on an image into keyboard shortcut which is picked up by QuicKeys which simulates drag and returns the cursor to original location, it needs 0.3s delay before release so it's almost instantaneous. Of course if the droplet is in the dock, its position is not static and in full screen mode, the dock is also hidden which could complicate things further(that's why I was asking for HotCorner droplet). So DragThing came to help. It's meant for additional docks, docklets etc. I just created one icon dock(only appearing when Safari is frontmost) in the corner and it's smart enough to also read image files dragged from Safari. After the drop it runs Automator workflow which copies dragged file to Download folder and opens it in TagIt, which I use for tagging. Up pops a little window and with few keystrokes it suggests already used tags so I can just press enter/space. After that Hazel will check for openmeta tags(unfortunately not availabel in Automator workflows) and moves them to designated folder. All this takes little more than a second of user intervention, most of it to insert tags.
Advantage of using tags to folders is of course the ability to have many different criteria for one single file, which makes looking for a specific file a breeze in spotlight when the collection reaches to a size of a database.
I hope somebody can find something useful from this workflow. Thanks again for the feedback.

  • Screensaver hot corner no longer working in 10.9.1

    Upgraded to 10.9.1 from 10.9
Moved my moise pointer into the hot corner to activate the screensaver and it did not work.
    I tried:
    A different screensaver.
    Activating a different corner
Changing the option on the corner to "Mission Control" (which worked) then back to Activate ScreenSaver and it did not work.
Turning the corner to "-", setting it. Then going back in and setting it back to the screensaver. It did not work.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved. If possible, restore it from a backup that predates the problem.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

  • Can you assign a keystroke to a hot corner?

Can you assign a keystroke to a hot corner?
For example, I want to assign option-D (toggles something in some app I use) to a hot corner.

This would be like executing any program with a combination of buttons. It's going to depend on your operaating system. My guess would be that most operating systems aren't going to make it easier to 'take over' keystrokes because that could interfere with the operation of some programs. For example, if you have MSWord up on your screen, it is quietly listening for a bunch of keys Alt-F, ctrl-x, crtl-o, ctrl-p....
You might be able to find some kind of program like this, but it's not going to be java specific.

  • IMac display doesn't stay asleep when hot corner activated

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem mentioned in this archived thread from three years ago:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1323073?start=0&tstart=0
I have an Intel 27" iMac that I bought brand new last year. I have a hot corner set to sleep the display, but after it's activated it usually comes back on after a few seconds. It's really frustrating.
If it's just mouse jitters (I have the wireless Magic Mouse that came with the iMac), I don't understand why the hot corner area is so small. It seems like it's just a pixel large. Is there any way to make the hot corner area bigger so the mouse has to be moved a wider distance to come out of the hot corner?
Or if it's certain programs activating the display, how do I figure out which programs are doing it and is there any way to prevent all programs from doing that? If I'm choosing to sleep my display, I want it to stay that way and I don't want it to come on even if I have an iCal reminder.

How can you be sure? It may be some system operation that's doing it.
This may also prevent the display from sleeping, but the next time you're doing this you might launch Activity Monitor and order the process list by CPU. Then when the display wakes up, note what processes (besides the DVD encoding software) are using non-trivial amounts of CPU time.

  • Is there a way to put a slight delay into hot corner activation?

I have my hot corners set up for Spaces, Expose, DashBoard etc. I find it pretty frustrating that I momentarily invoke a hot corner action every time I go for the Apple menu, or the trash, or something on the far left side of my over-populated dock. It's especially annoying when DashBoard kicks in doing this. I assume Apple made a user selectable delay on spring loaded folders to avert similar frustrations.
Is there some 'defaults write com.apple.blah...' command that fixes this?

I don't know of a delay function, but you can add a modifier key to the activation.
In the System Preferences, while you are setting up that corner for activation, press the modifier key (e.g., shift) then select the function (e.g., spaces). To use it, you'd have to have the modifier key pressed BEFORE you move the mouse to that corner for activation to work.

  • Single hot corner, multiple options?

    Hi guys,
I recently updated my iMac from app store's downloadable Mountain Lion (10.8.2).
And I bought a Mac Pocket Book for learning about this new OS.
Here's the thing confused me a lot.
    The author said these:
Use the drop-down menus to set options for any corner you want. After that, when you move your mouse to that corner, your Mac fires up the screensaver (or does what you told it to—put the display to sleep, launch Mission Control, or whatever). The only downside of setting hot corners is that Apple gives you eight options for each corner, so unless you want to use a modifier key with the corner, you don’t have enough corners to use all the options.
By using modifier keys (you can choose from Shift, ⌘, Option, and Control), you can get a single corner to do many different things. To add a modifier key to a hot corner, hold down the modifier key while you select what you want the hot corner to do from the Active Screen Corners window’s menus. Using modifiers with hot corners not only gives you extra flexibility, but it also prevents you from accidentally invoking the hot corner action when you’re mousing around.
But I cannot set a single corner with multiple options! Could you guys can do that???

I'm with you. I can get 10.8.2 to require a specific modifier key in a corner, but I cannot get multiple modifier keys to do different things in the same corner.
However, the author is right that on the last point. It can help prevent unintended activation.

  • Why does firefox not display photos with Hot spot slices in them

I took a photo and brought it into Fireworks and created a graphic map with hot spots to certain countries. While this looks great on Internet Explorer its not showing properly in firefox at all. http://www.aist.org/chapters/chaptermap.htm
    Heres the example .

That website is an MS Office document that has VML content for the images.<br />
You can see that as green comment code in the page source (View > Page Source)<br />
Only IE can display such a document properly.
You need to save that page as W3C compliant HTML code and make sure that you disable VML to make it work in all browsers.
Looks that something is wrong with the image count for images used when VML is not enabled.

  • Hot corner screen shutoff -- what am i seeing?

When I put the mouse in the hot corner set to shut off the monitor on my Macbook, it appears that the crystals in the LCD are actually zeroing as well, so that the monitor is truly shut off. This would differ from dimming the LED backlight till it's off, as you can actually see that the image is still in the monitor. (Put a light behind the Mac logo with the backlight off, computer running, and you'll see what I mean)
The funny thing is it looks like I can actually see the LCD clearing the screen as it happens a split second after the backlight shuts off when using the hot corner.

Scott and Raehan: I see your points, but I think we are all just guessing which words in Apple's publicity are significant and what they mean. I don't find either of your interpretations any more persuasive than my own, and any or all of us could easily be wrong.
Somewhere in one of these threads is a post in which someone figured out a way to determine (beyond what one can read from its color profile) who manufactured his display and what model it is. What we need is for people who own the new antiglare and the old matte display to use that method to identify the units in question.

  • Hot key or hot corner to put my monitors to sleep

Is there a way I can assign an entourage hot-corner or a hot key to put my monitors to sleep?
I'd love to be able to shut them down with a click, when I walk away.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi marglar,
I'm not sure if you can create a shortcut to put your display to sleep.
You can use this keyboard shortcut to put your mac to sleep: Option-Command-Eject.

  • Imac retina 5k; hot corner display sleep only works on attached display

Just taken delivery of iMac retina 5k.  I have two Thunderbolt displays attached left and right.  I always use the bottom left hot corner to put the display to sleep but on this new setup I have to swipe to the bottom left of the left display to get this to work.  With my previous Macbook Pro it used to work if I swiped to the bottom left of the Pro, ie I didn't have to go to the left hand Cinema Display. Anyone had this problem?

Thanks but och I ken that.  Thought some bright spark would save me the long Christmas wait.  Actually I'm getting a callback soon re another issue so I'll try them on this too.
