10.6.x and Photoshop CS3

Probably been answered before. Looking to upgrade OS X to 10.6.X. Are there any issues with Photoshop CS3?
Victim of the US economy but now back to work, so will eventually upgrade photoshop but figured an OS X upgrade
is cheaper to start with now.
Thanks!

I have been using Photoshop CS3 without a hiccup under Snow Leopard ever since SL was released.

Ned, thanks for responding. Internet access is not the problem, I will have a tower computer connected to Comcast.
Isolating the laptop  from the internet is the issue.

  • Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS3 do not recognise Canon PowerShot S90 raw files

My husband has lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS3 but they don't recognise CanonPowershot S90 camera raw files. I've tried searching for the problem on internet but can't find anything that helps. Adobe's DNG converter doesn't work either. I've tried different versions of the DNG converter to no avail. Buying a new Adobe product is out of the question.
Another problem is that his e-mail address has been changed so that he can't login to his Adobe account. We used to be able to contact Adobe Netherlands by phone or email but that option isn't available anymore.
    Can anyone help please?

    Go to here:
Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.6
    or here:
Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.6
for the final versions of LR3. Download and install the software. You do not need to remove your present installation first, LR will install over it and fix any faults that now exist.
Your husband can log onto his Adobe account with the old email address and when in the account can edit the address to the new one.

  • Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3

I have a problem where changes or if I edit pictures in Lightroom 2.0, these changes are not reflected in the actual picture if I open them in Photoshop CS3.
Is this a known issue with Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3 or there is some sort of a workaround?

    >in Lightroom 2.0
Upgrade to Lightroom 2.1 ASAP. Fixed many bugs and it's free.
Anyway. What kind of files? How do you open the file in Photoshop, through the "edit in Photoshop feature" or do you open it separately from Finder/explorer? Do you get a dialog that asks whether you want to edit with changes or the original?

    any Ideas?

    Hi poetryplease,
Unfortunately, there is no Creative Cloud connection between CS3 and Revel. You can upload your images that you have edited, etc, in Photoshop from your desktop into Revel or download your Revel images to your desktop then open in Photoshop.

  • IPhoto and Photoshop CS3 Problem

I have been downloading my pictures into iPhoto and editing them in Photoshop(CS3) now. As long as I was shooting jpeg, I would just hit Save in Photoshop and the edited picture would show up in my iPhoto application, in in "modified" in iPhoto library.
Since I got Photoshop CS3, I have been shooting a lot more RAW. RAW images, saved TIFFS, don't seem to get saved to iPhoto application, just the Pictures/iPhoto Library folder. And I am noticing that edited pictures don't automatically go into modified, but stay in the originals file.
I am also noticing that even jpegs do not automatically get saved to the iPhoto application. They too open up the save to window for Pictures/iPhoto Library. All this since CS3.
So only the original files downloaded from my CF card are in iPhoto. I feel that something is wrong here. I should be able to have my edited files show up in my iPhoto application without re-importing them.
I tried a trial of Aperture, but my DT graphics card and processor can't handle the application. But that is not the point. What has happened that iPhoto has become essentially useless to view my modified photos?

    Birgit
This may be the source of the issue.
Bridge is NOT Photoshop, but an alternative file organiser. So when you set Bridge as an external editor you're really sending the pics to another organiser, not an editor. Presumably from there they go to Photoshop and are then saved back... to Bridge, not iPhoto.
Try setting PS as the editor not Bridge and see does that make a difference,
Also, when you send pics to an external editor, only a maximum of 4 will go. So you can only work in batches of four.

  • New Mac Mini and Photoshop CS3

I'm thinking of getting a new 2.0 GHz Mac Mini but am wondering if the built-in Intel GMA 950 graphics processor has enough horsepower for moderate-duty Photoshop CS3 work (all photo editing) using a Dell 24" Ultasharp widescreen LCD monitor? All the specs I read seem to suggest that the 950 can handle what I'm asking, but I'd like to hear from somebody who is doing CS3 work on a Mini with a 24" LCD monitor before taking the plunge.
    Thanks.

It does indeed mean that if you put 4Gb RAM in a Core 2 Duo mini it will only be able to see 3Gb of it. There is, however, no real downside or risk in fitting 3Gb RAM into the system even though Apple only specs it up to 2Gb. The only 'issue' is that to fit 3Gb, you would need unmatched RAM modules (1 1Gb and 1 2Gb stick) which means you loose the optimum performance of matches pairs of RAM. However, the loss of performance from that would generally be exceeded by the gain in performance from the additional 1Gb RAM available to MacOS.
Upgrading RAM yourself is not easy, but it is certainly not hard for someone with a little experience of working inside computers and who can do such work with care. You need a couple of thin putty knives (or pastry knives if you are more at home in the kitchen than garden) to get the case open, and some disassembly is required, but it isn't a difficult task. If you look down the page at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/mac_mini/intel you'll see links for a video of what's entailed.

  • Camera raw and Photoshop CS3 from Lightroom

(2.5) If I open a raw image from Windows Explorer or Bridge (which I don't use much), Camera Raw 4.6 opens. It doesn't open if I Edit In Photoshop CS3 from Lightroom, but says "This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.5 for full compatibility. Camera Raw version 4.6 is the latest version available for Photoshop CS3".
There are two choices: Render using Lightroom and Open Anyway. If I say the former, it doesn't use the file name, but does something like -2.tif.
I'm not sure what these two choices actually do.
Secondly, if things were working properly, would Lightroom actually open the Camera Raw window? If so, is there anything I can do short of upgrading PS to CS4?
    Thanks.

Just a little history of the profiles being displayed for your camera model. The camera calibration tab only displays the profiles that are specific to your camera and model. The earler profiles were named after the version of ACR that was in use when they were created.
    So.
ACR 4.2 the first profile created for your camera model when support was introduced.
ACR 4.4, Adobe created/ updated new profiles for most of the supported camera models with this release of ACR.
Adobe Standard Beta, updated profile when the Beta of ACR 5.0 and LR 2.0 were introduced.
Adobe Standard, Updated profile for the final release of ACR 5.0 and LR 2.0. This then is the latest profile created for your camera model. I think it should be the closest to your camera standard.
Adobe did not create any other camera matching profiles Vivid, Neutral etc other than for the more popular Nikon and Canon models.  I have an Olympus so I am in the same boat.

  • Adobe AIR and Photoshop CS3 Integration

    Hello,
We have been using Extendscript for scripting to control
Photoshop CS3 for calling actions and manipulating images. However,
we would like to build an Adobe AIR application to take the place

Any suggestions or links to any documenation around this

  • Colour Management Issues with Leopard and Photoshop CS3

    Hi Everyone,
Since I have installed Leopard I am having colour management issues with Photoshop CS3 and my Canon i9950 printer.
My screen is calibrated with a Spyder and I used to ask Photoshop (in 10.4.11) to manage colour when printing and used the Spyder profile. Everything came out as I saw it on screen.
Now in leopard when I do the same thing everything comes out too yellow on the print. If I ask Photoshop to let the printer manage the colour it is too red. If I use the default colour management (photoshop managing the colour and it choosing the colour space it is better, but still too yellow).
Photoshop gives the hint to turn off colour management in the printer but there is no option for this and it also said the same thing before of course (when it worked in 10.4.11).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I'm having exactly the same problem, only my printer is a Canon Pixma iX4000. The colour is all bleached out, it looks exactly like when you've accidentally printed an RGB file on a CMYK printer, and at first I thought that was what I had done, but it isn't. This is very frustrating, I've spent all day going through the manuals, recalibrating etc, but no luck. This is a brand new Mac Pro and printer, but if its not going to print what I see on screen it's just expensive junk.
I wasn't sure if the problem was Leopard or the printer or CS3...

  • Camera raw - Canon 5D MII and photoshop CS3

    Hi
Just bought  a Canon 5D MII, but i can not open any of my RAW files on photoshop CS3. I does not look like there is an upgrade to camera raw for this on CS3, do I have no choice then to upgrade to CS4?
    Thanks for the help

As Buko says, you can use the free, stand-alone DNG Converter 5.4, but…
    • it represents a further step in your workflow, as you have to convert all your raw Canon files to raw DNGs first before being able to open them in your old ACR 4.6; and
    • you will be leaving a lot of image quality on the table, as ACR 5.4 is light-years ahead of ACR 4.6.
    The upgrade is a no-brainer.

  • RAW 4.6 and Photoshop CS3

I can open my RAW files in Photoshop CS3 shot on Canon 350D, but now using Canon EOS 5 MK ll and downloading RAW 4.6 but get an alert Photoshop does not recognise this type of file, any advice please.

you need cr 5.2 or better for the  Canon EOS 5 MK ll.  ps cs3 cannot be upgraded beyond cr 4.6.
you can use the free dng converter (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=Windows) or upgrade your ps (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/buying-guide.html)

  • Nikon D600 NEF files and Photoshop CS3

    Hi,
I am using Photoshop CS3 and cannot upload Nikon D600 NEF files--obviously a gap between the two debuts.  Are there any suggestions, or am I stuck upgrading?
    Thanks

You could get Lightroom 5, then output your files as tiffs to be opened in CS3.  I haven't used the standalone DNG converter, so I'm not sure if that gives you the option to save as a tiff also.  You could try the dng converter first to see if you can save as another file type, or use a legacy DNG version that is conpatable with CS3.

  • Final Cut and Photoshop CS3 extended

I've searched google and had no luck with this whatsoever.
I've opened an exported video sequence into Photoshop CS3 extended. (MOV, HDV 1080i60) In FCP6 the sequence had a time code of 0:02:03 whereas in Photoshop CS3 it is recognized as 0:02:02. It seems as if Photoshop is dropping a frame. Regardless, looking over my original MOV and the open Photoshop document I only have 51 total frames.
This looks like Photoshop and FCP6 see frames differently. When I export my video from Photoshop, Quicktime sees all 51 frames still there. When I pull the video back into FCP6 the timecode for the sequence is now 0:02:02 (just like Photoshop sees it) and it drops the last frame.
The frame is there! I can see it when I go over the video in Quicktime. For some reason FCP6 is refusing to show that last frame and will only display a timecode of 0:02:02 for that clip!
What am I to do? How do I get FCP6 to show that last frame?
    Thanks heaps, in advance.

"I've opened an exported video sequence into Photoshop CS3 extended. (MOV, HDV 1080i60)."
do you mean you've imported an Image Sequence (movie exported from FCP as individual image files eg- tiffs)...
"In FCP6 the sequence had a time code of 0:02:03 whereas in Photoshop CS3 it is recognized as 0:02:02."
Where in Photoshop are you reading timecode??? Or are you just counting the individual images?
"It seems as if Photoshop is dropping a frame. Regardless, looking over my original MOV and the open Photoshop document I only have 51 total frames."
If the original movie was at 1080i60, and your clip is 02 seconds and 2 frames, that would imply you should have at least 60 images (29.97 (drop-frame?) / 30fps x 2 seconds)
"This looks like Photoshop and FCP6 see frames differently. When I export my video from Photoshop, Quicktime sees all 51 frames still there. When I pull the video back into FCP6 the timecode for the sequence is now 0:02:02 (just like Photoshop sees it) and it drops the last frame."
    Now i'm really confused...
"The frame is there! I can see it when I go over the video in Quicktime. For some reason FCP6 is refusing to show that last frame and will only display a timecode of 0:02:02 for that clip!"
Yup... you got me... I have no idea... I think there is a non-dropped-frame timecode conflict in the Image Sequence(?) export from FCP and way PS is interpreting these images...
I have the good fortune of working in PAL-land, so I'm not too knowledgeable on what i think is your problem... hopefully someone from NTSC-land will chip in and help you out.

    Andy

I have consistent and pervasive crashes in Adobe CS3 applications, running Leopard on a dual 2.7GHz Power Mac G5. The longer I work in an application, the more likely it is to crash. Ever since upgrading to Leopard, performance and reliability has been spotty at best for me.
Most crashes, like the one posted have that "KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE" and "EXC_BAD ACCESS (SIGBUS)"
I have not yet heard an adequate explanation of what those exceptions mean by anyone on here.
If anyone who's an engineer, developer, or programmer happens to know, I'd certainly like to hear about it.
My primary crash culprits have been, in no particular order: Adobe CS3 applications, "mdworker", Safari, Mail, the Finder, Suitcase Fusion, and others... with the overwhelming majority of crashes going to "mdworker" (something to do with spotlight indexing?)
Hardware checks out with TechTool Pro and Disk Utility. I've been reparing permissions and have gotten some help from the great Scott Radloff, but am still struggling. Lost more work again today in both Photoshop and GoLive. I'm trying to decide whether to go through an entire reinstall yet again, but this time ZEROING ALL DATA on the boot drive before I install. It's a daunting prospect, and I haven't quite made up my mind about it.
I also have a peculiar issue with my keyboard becoming unresponsive (after a period of time of working with several apps open) when optical media is inserted into my SuperDrive. This has only happened since Leopard.
My suspicion has been that this MIGHT be a PPC vs. Intel issue, and that my hardware simply isn't compatible with Leopard.
