Billed for Premium Tech Support That Did Not Fix the Problem

i too was scammed last night by a premiun tech support rep...he assured me that the problem i was having with my pc
could be repaired and pursuaded   me to purchase the 10 month plan for $14.00 month also said if i canceled prior to the 10 mos i would be charged a $59.99 fee.......I told him I would sign up if he could assure me the pc problem would be resolved.
He also assusred me that if it could not be resolved to ask to be transfered to the billing department to cancel the the plan   I confirmed this with him at least 3 times and he assured me I would not have to pay and I could cancel with no monetary obligation if the problem on my pc could not be resolved....well it was not and my computer was left in worse condition than when the premium support tech began working on it...the support tech worked on my computer for 3 and 1/2 hoursI was on the phone with him until 3:30 am....he apologized and said he did not expect the outcome of what happened to my computer. well needless to say when i called billing i was told I was liable for the $59.00 early cancelation fee it did not matter that the tech did not repair the problem or that he left my computer in worse condition than when he  began working on it.........so technically what they are saying is that I have to pay for them creating problems on my pc that did not exist before I called them   I The sales rep I spoke to was "scott : he said he was in massachusetts..I spoke with Eric in BIlling and he said he would note on my account what I had told him and asked me to call after the charge appears on my phone bill to see if i could have it removed...i also called billing again today and spoke with another billing rep and she said she also would note my problem on my account and that hopefully the $59.00 fee would be removed..it is very disppointing to know that Verizon Hires people that lie to consumers.....all of their employee conversations to customers need to be recorded and monitored. After installing VLC (64bit), my MBP only reads CDs and ejects DVDs. Uninstalling VLC did not fix the problem. What do I do?

I have recently installed VLC media player (64bit), played a movie file on a DVD+RW for 30 seconds, then decided to stop the movie. I poped the DVD out, and a minute later I reinserted the same DVD, it was ejected after 10 second. Now when ever I insert the DVD in my MBP it gets ejected. It reads my CDs but does not read my DVD. Uninstalling VLC did not fix it. I am not even sure at this if VLC caused the problem. What do I do?

Charged for 2 FREE service calls/costing $70 each and they DID NOT fix the problem.

My service was interupted DAILY between 2:45pm - 6pm and sometimes 7pm. I contacted someone in the chat room and explained, they said they would send someone out and there would be NO CHARGE...I made sure and they said, Rest assured that there will be no charge" They did send someone out, around 11am, and said, hey, it's a gold signal splitter, I'll replace it with this new one. Well, they did. A few minute job. Well, 2:45pm rolled around and guess what? SIGNAL LOSS on tv and cable...till about 6pm. Well, next day i contacted them, and same scenario. They sent someone out-around 12pm, and said, oh the coaxial connecters are a "little loose". Well, he tightened them...a few minute "fix". Well, 2:45pm rolls around and AGAIN SIGNAL LOSS, no internet and NO TV till 6:30pm. Well, I've had enough so I cancelled service..Now I check my bill and 2 service calls for $70 each plus $15 tax totalling $155. I talked to someone in the chat room and told them this scenario. Well, they said they can waive 1 of the service call, but since my equipment is owned by me and not rented, I have to pay and that in their notes, it never said that I would get a free service call. The problem is that it NEVER was fixed and the problem had nothing to do with the signal splitter or connections, but something in the neighborhood, in which I saw 2 Xfinity service trucks on my street when I came home. So I am out $85 for something they did not fix-apparently something going on connectionwise in the neighborhood. ALSO WATCH OUT FOR CHAT ROOM REPS THAT SAY IT WILL BE A FREE SERVICE CALL. The audio in "speak screen" stops working after a few uses. IOS 8.2 did not fix this problem unfortunately. I'm using the Alex voice on a Sprint iPhone 6 plus- if that matters.

I really enjoy the speak screen feature, as the voiceover is too inconvenient and tricky to use. The speak screen option works oerfectly for reading, and helps me as I'm dyslexic. However, the Alex voice stops working after the initial use or soon after. I then have to restart the phone every time in order to get the speak screen to acruelly speak again. Really annoying and was hoping that IOS 8.2 Would fix this, but it appears it had not fixed this bug. Any help with this?

The only additonal troubleshooting options after powering the iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, and resetting network settings on the iPhone is restoring the iPhone with iTunes from the iPhone's backup and/or restoring with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup - the same when connected to any wi-fi network besides your own as well as not being able to maintain internet access when connected to your carrier's cellular network, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

QT 7.4.5 did **not** fix the problem with some .mp4s

It has been 3 versions now - 7.4, 7.4.1, 7.4.5 - since Apple broke the ability of QuickTime Player to play some .mp4 files. Apple says it is because they have some kind of malformed headers, yet they play fine in iTunes. So why can't QT Player play them, and some people report they have problems when put into Keynote?
Apple has broken functionality for lots of users. Time and again this bug has been brought to their attention. It apparently is a design decision not to fix this, and it is a big disappointment.

The story so far:
If you are having problems playing MPEG4 video in Quicktime 7.4 (and Apple are aware that some users have had such problems) you should carefully check in
/Library/Quicktime and
/Library/Internet Plug-ins and
Home/Library/Quicktime
to check whether you have any third party plug-ins that are not completely up to date.
Current versions of Flip4Mac and DiVX and Perian do NOT cause failure alone or in combination. However the one SPECIFIC extension that ALWAYS causes the failure alone or in groups is 3ivxMediaImp. All other 3ivx extensions DO work. Remove only that ONE SPECIFIC extension.
Please try this and see if it fixes your problem with QT Player, the QT Firefox Plugin, and iTunes not playing MPEG4 files (including mp4 files).
Older 3ivx and DivX components are often incompatible with new QuickTime versions and are, in many cases, obviated by component packs like Perian.
This is not the only explanation for issues with MPEG4 file playback in QuickTime 7.4 and later, however. The issue with videos from democracynow.org and others, for instance, is the result of that content not complying with MPEG4 standards (namely that they use bogus track dimensions). QuickTime had previously ignored invalid track dimensions but this was changed in order to support properly authored anamorphic content.
The recent update to QT 7.4.1 fixed a number of issues but some problems are unavoidable when working with non-standards compliant content. The standards are important for many reasons including keeping hackers from manipulating improperly coded web pages.
A further problem was the fact that the developers of iSquint conceded that in many cases, the files do not play because they have been created in a non-standard way (the tool used to create them was broken). They have therefore included a Debreaker as a part of the latest version of iSquint. If your files are of this type, then you can run them through this app without having to downgrade QuickTime. This could save you a lot of hassle!

However, in other cases, there is a workaround (also the basis for why those files will still play in iTunes): there are a few ways to trick QuickTime into ignoring the invalid track data. For instance, rename the files .3GP and they'll show up just fine.

I have owned my MacBook Pro for several months. Initially, I did not have any problems. Now I have a problem with Yahoo Mail. I can open my account, but when I try to get at my mail, 2 out of 3 times I get the spinning ball that never stops. Now what?

I have owned my MacBook Pro for several months without having any problems with it. Recently I am having trouble with my Yahoo Mail. I can open it fine, but 2 out of 3 times when I try to actually open a message, the spinning ball comes on the screen and does not stop. Sometimes, I can log out or force quit and come back in to my account and use it. Other times, I run into the same problem. Any suggestions?

Get the correct settings for your account from Yahoo and set it up manually.

Firefox cannot load pages that other browsers can, but the 'help' page for this issue did not fix the problem.

I am troubleshooting an issue occurring on a family member's pc. Immediately after changing their "search" settings from "Yahoo search" to "Google search", they found that Firefox was unable to load any webpages. After troubleshooting the problem, I found the "Firefox can't load websites but other browsers can" help page, and attempted each of the solutions listed. None of those solutions fixed the issue. Also, I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox; the issue persists. However, the 'new' version of Firefox remembered the tabs left open when the 'old' version was deleted, so some temporary files likely persisted.
Are there any other steps that can be taken, or is Firefox on this computer no longer an option?

2.0.2 did not fix any bugs????

Massive touch delay still happening, applications quiting on there own. What exactly did 2.0.2 do? I would really like to go back to 1.0 it was so much better and now the crazy back up. I have to wake up 1 hour earlier in the morning if I want to sync b/c it takes an hour. RIDICULOUS! Also how come the Ipod touch has many cooler apps than the iphone? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Uno, sims pool/bowling, sonic etc. These should be on the iphone!!

2.0.2 supposedly "corrected" the problem of the 3G iphone requesting more power than was needed from the cell tower for calls. The towers would get overloaded and couldn't maintain all the calls and many people experienced dropped calls. That's why ATT sent a text message urging people to upgrade to 2.0.2 I believe there were some security issues addressed as well. Many people noticed a lag in the contacts populating the screen on 2.0.1. When I upgraded this issue got better for a while, but it's now worse than before.
I'm standing by and waiting for an update to fix these problems.

Firefox opens a new window every time I click a link. I reset FF and it did not fix the problem.

When I click on any link, the browser opens a new window. I have searched the browser options to fix this and have not found a place to select a different option. I have reset Firefox and checked all of my plugins and have not found anything that seem to be related to my problem. Sometimes, Firefox will work normally for the first few minutes of use and then start opening a window for everything.
By normally, I mean that I click a link and it opens the link in the same tab that I'm browsing. Some links will open in a new tab, depending on the type of link. Mostly, they open in new windows no matter what.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Imovie 11 9.04 did not fix audio problem

I have been making an hour long movie for some time now. I originally started the movie in imovie 09 and it had problems with the movie freezing. I updated to imovie 11 and was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked again. I recently began having problems with imovie 11 9.02 when the sound began sounding crackly and the first few words of each clip were inaudible, I upgraded to version 9.04 but still no luck on the sound. A member mentioned reverting to 9.0, but I am not sure how this is done, I uploaded the latest versions from the new app store and am worried of losing any of the movie if I revert back. Any help will be greatly appreciated. This project is well over due and with all the problems beginning in 09 has taken well over two years. Does anyone know when the next upgrade patch will be out.

If you still have the clip on the phone (and in the future) I would suggest you import directly into iMovie from your phone.
If you have iMovie 11, connect your iPhone via the connector cable to your Mac. If iPhoto or iTunes starts, you can quit those.
Open iMovie.
Then click the Import from Camera icon, or click FILE/IMPORT.../FROM CAMERA.
If your only copy is in iPhoto, I am not sure why you are not seeing it, but I would suggest as a workaround that you in iPhoto, you right-click on the video clip and reveal in Finder. Then Copy and Paste it to your Desktop. Then, in iMovie, FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.
