10.7.5 and disappearing icons

Further to my previous question on missing tool bar icons ( finder, mail, safari and so forth ) I restarted in 10.7.4 and everything is back to normal . Guess I'll stay away from the ".5 " for now.

Both the Finder sidebar and toolbar icons are present after a 10.7.5 combo update applied to 10.7.4. But I do miss the color icons of Snow Leopard.

*Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.*
I have checked and there was no solution.
I have uninstalled and resintalled the device drivers and no luck it says it wont work.

    Hi

Could you please help me on what do it to recover them.

If you don't know the restrictions code then do you know if it was  on the iPad when you last backed up ? If not then you can restore to that backup and it should be removed. If it was on the iPad when you last backed up then the only way to remove it is to reset the iPad back to factory defaults and you can then re-sync your content back to the iPad - you won't be able to restore to the backup as that will keep the code in place.

Just "ctrl" and mouseclick the desired icon and select "Remove from Sidebar" from the little pop up window.. That should do the trick (in your vertical "PLACES" column)
NB: if you want to get rid of icons on the top (horizontal) bar of your finder window, then you need to go to the item with the mouse, press "cmd" ("apple" key) and drag the icon off the finder window onto your desktop and let go (if you want the "Pouf!" effect

    Hi,
    Please try resetting preferences?
On Windows: Goto %appdata%\Adobe\Elements Organizer\12.0\Organizer folder and rename the files “psa.prf” (to say psa_old.prf) and “status.dat” (to say status_old.dat).
Try launching Organizer and see if it launches fine.

  • Hotsync Manager crashes and tray icon disappears

Hi, whenever I try to run Hotsync on my computer (XP Pro) the program immediately crashes and the icon disappears from the systray. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, reboot my pc, etcetera, but it keeps crashing.
This is the error I get:
'HotSync® Manager Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
    Error signature:
    AppName: hotsync.exe AppVer: 7.0.2.0 ModName: hslog20.dll
    ModVer: 7.0.0.0 Offset: 0000b0b4
Anyone who can help me find a solution? Tnx.
Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)

I have the same issue; HotSync won't run (crashes upon start up). I removed the Palm Desktop v. 6.2 completely, downloaded the entire package again and re-installed. HotSync still won't run. This is all on my home PC (WinXP).
I have the same OS on my office machine..HotSync works there. It leads me to believe something has become corrupted with HotSync on the home PC and it isn't being fully removed during the removal process AND it's not being over written during the installation. It worked well for a few months.
Additionally, I find the Access Desktop package to be slow when searching and saving. I've just about had it with Palm devices and the lame Desktop software.

  • Safari and mail icons disappear

The Safari and Mail icons keep disappearing from the dock on my iMac. I've dragged them back from the Applications folder, and they disappear again within seconds. If I open the applications from the Apllications Folder, the icons appear on the right side of the dock. Then, as soon as I close the applications the icons disappear. I've deleted the dock preferences file, and i"ve also disabled dock synching from Mobile Me, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions ?

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for them, and do they show on the iPad's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right and type in Safari or Mail) ?
Safari can be hidden via Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari being 'off', so you could check that as well.
If you still can't find then try a reset and see if you can find them after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot
There is also Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout which will reset the layout of your apps and might make it easier to find them.

  • BBM and email icons won't disappear

My bbm and email icons won't disappear even when there are no messages. How can I fix this?

    PlayBook OS version?
    BBM version?
    bridge version?
please list so it can help others
I currently dont have the issue but am up to date on all the above.
To get BBMessenger on the PlayBook, you need 3 things:
Bridge update (1.0.0.83, I recomend 1.0.0.93 which is latest)
PlayBook OS 1.0.3 or higher (best to get the latest version of PlayBook OS.) current is 1.0.5.2342
BBM update (5.0.3.22) available on App World via your smartphone.
Links for Bridge if your carrier blocks it in app world.

  • I installed firefox on OSX Mountian Lion and the icon disappears off of dock when I restart

I installed firefox on OSX Mountian Lion and the icon disappears off of dock when I restart.  I get a question mark instead but when I click on it the firefox icon reappears.

Drag Firefox to a location on the hard disk and launch it from there instead of the mounted dmg.

  • One dock icon moves and disappears

Recently my Firefox dock icon started moving all the way to the right of the dock when it was open, and disappearing from the dock when it was closed.
I have read a couple topics on the same issue, which recommended resetting MobileMe sync data and to unregister/reregister the offending computer. This did not work.
I discovered that when I move the Firefox app from my applications folder to my desktop, then place it in the dock, that icon stays put in the dock (and the desktop icon stays put on the desktop) - until I open Firefox. At that point the static Firefox dock icon 'duplicates' into a second far-right dock icon. When I click to another application then click back on either the static Firefox icon or the new one on the far right of the dock, they both work to make Firefox the front app.
I want my Firefox dock icon to work again, like in the golden days of old. Any recommendations?

I also dragged the dock two utility files (com.apple.dock.db, com.apple.dock.plist) to the desktop and relogged, resetting the dock. This did not work.
I reinstalled Firefox, but that did not work.
The Firefox dock icon stays put on the other iMac user and on my MBP.
Crazy maddening. I feel like there must be something that is corrupted, but am not sure what.

  • Desktop Icons flash every 1 to 2 seconds and finder appears and disappears

    Hello All,
    This one is a bit baffling . . .
After running a number of "software updates" (but I can't tell you which ones) the icons on the desktop disappear and reappear approximately every 1 to 2 seconds. Additionally, 'finder' is showing in the menu bar and the finder 'window' appears and disappears as well. Sometimes the finder window will disappear for 5 to 10 seconds but then it reappears. Whenever any application is started, the application is 'shut down' by the OS without any intervention from the user. I have never seen anything like this. Any ideas you have on how to find out what software updates we ran that might have caused this or how to 'back out' those software updates or just any general ideas on what we might want to try are appreciated.
This is a MacBook Pro purchased late last year and I know we are NOT running 10.5 on this machine.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Laura is a she and that is the computer owner and primary user I am actually Mark 'the' husband just using her id trying to debug this 'thing'.
So thanks for the continued suggestions. I can't get the machine to boot from the CD to be able to run the utilities on the tiger CD. I tried holding the 'C' while booting and also tried option-command-shift-delete with no success to boot from the CD..
I will check try the syslog suggestion and see if I see anything.
Please keep any and all suggestions coming

  • My system preferences have suddenly disappeared! I have the language and text icon but that is the only icon that is displayed! where have my system preferences gone and how do i get them back??

I went to my system preferences today and they are all gone except for my language and text icon! I have the language and text icon but that is the only icon that is displayed! where have my system preferences gone and how do i get them back??

Double click on the picture of the HD on your desktop, then look at the bottom of the window that opens.
First check the S.M.A.R.T. status on your HD: Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > in the panel at left, select the first item in the list/your HD mechanism > look atthe bottom of the main window next to S.M.A.R.T. status and see if it says “Verified” or something more ominous like “Failing.”
If S.M.A.R.T.status is "Verified," run Repair Disk: Boot from install disc (insert disc > restart > immediately hold down c key and keep holding it until you see “Preparing Installation”) > at first screen select the language and click Continue > click on the Utilities Menu in the menu bar > open Disk Utility > select your HD in the panel on the left side > click Repair Disk at bottom of main window. Run this at least twice, and keep running it until it says “appears ok” twice in a row. If that doesn’t happen, you may need a stronger utility such as DiskWarrior or if the directory is damaged beyond repair, you may need to reinstall the OS, or you may have a damaged HD (repair utilities can only repair the directory structure, not the HD itself). When this is finished, quit Disk Utility, quit the installer, and restart. Once booted normally, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Permissions.
