10.7 has slowed my MBP 13" 2010 down to a crawl

in all programmes, boot times and everything, its the buggiest release since 8.0 and as an ex genius i am appalled, when are you going to fix this release instead of spending time on 10.8 fix 10.7.
It takes 2 mins for it to completely boot, the adobe cs 5.5 suite is a joke now, takes 5 mins for indesign to start, sometimes the dock dont work at all, it does not search pc servers anymore, all in all snow leaopard was quicker, better and did all the things i wanted, but you cant go back as they have changed the format for mail and i would loose 4000 emails!!!!!!
All i get from apple is reinstall 10.7, I have 5 times now!!! its a complete joke... when o when will this be a priority to you apple?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Browser based InfoPath Forms in SharePoint 2010 performance has slowed down after SharePoint 2010 SP2

    hi All,
Our Browser based Infopath forms have slowed down drastically after applying SharePoint 2010 SP2. Prior to this, we had SharePoint 2010 SP1 and the timings was around 10 seconds (single user) for the entire infopath form to be displayed which has 10-12
views and 5 data connections and 15 business rules and around 100 fields.
But now after applying sharepoint 2010 sp2, the performance has slowed down and it now takes for a single user around 50 seconds.
Refer to the link below, which we followed by applying the patch as well, but the performance is still the same very slow.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0b673324-01c4-49f7-86cb-647aa43fefd6/infopath-browser-forms-extremely-slow-after-service-pack-2-upgrade?forum=sharepointadminprevious
We have raised a ticket with Microsoft, but there is no concrete resolution as to what component of the infopath has made the form rendering and display slow.
Can someone point me to the right resource or knowledge base where i can do a kind of debug, which tells me exactly which infopath dlls are the issue or which part of my form is taking more time. I am using AOLPageTest and Fiddler, but they do not give me
any details where exactly is the bottleneck.
Any tools that give me the details of the bottleneck.
Thanks and appreciate your help in this.
    Regards
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

    hi inderjeet,
The application has gone live and its on production, the same application is on pre-prod and UAT, system testing and integration environments.
The infopath form used to work very well on all these environments before we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2. but the moment we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2, the infopath forms have slowed down.
Microsoft has acknowledged that there is an issued with sharepoint 2010 sp2 and infopath form performance, but they are not able to provide an appropriate fix on this.
We have another environment where there is no sharepoint 2010 sp2 applied only sp1 is applied and the infopath form works very well within fraction of seconds.
So your point no. 1 and 2 and 3. does not reveal anything. Fiddler does not give any detailed component by component breakup where the time is taking more.
The form used to work very well before we applied sp2.
I want to know a tool that gives me exactly component by component grant chart kind of breakup of time taken when the infopath url is requested on the browser.
    Thanks
    ram
    Thanks Ram

  • My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd.

My mbp (mid 2010) is running extremely slow after installing some mavericks updates on May 22nd. Earlier I thought this behavior is due to spotlight indexing but it finished after 3 days. I deleted all caches from library. But no luck, still running extremely slow. I checked activity monitor for cpu usage, it shows above 90% is idle. The memory usage always shows PM - 4 GB, Memory Used 3.96 GB, VM - 4 GB, Swaped used 0 bytes, App Memory 1.82 GB, File Cache 1.44 GB, Wired Memory 480 MB.
    Thanks in adavnce for help.

Was it the combo updater that was installed or the OS X 10.9.3 update. There is a difference.
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install. So if you think you've got a borked 10.8.4 install from a regular update, just run the 10.8.4 Combo Updater on that system.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.1 to 10.9.2. If somehow the 10.9.2 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.1 and 10.9.2 it will still be stale after the delta update.

  • The update on 05/02/2010 has slowed my browser a LOT

The update on 05/02/2010 has slowed my browser a LOT
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == after the 05/02/2010 update

Hi - there are several issues that can cause Firefox to seem "slow". Go through this short list of possibilities, and get back with me:
    * Frequent "Problem loading page" issues are likely caused by a firewall. See [[Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox]] for instructions on how to check firewalls. Antivirus toolbars are another possibility to check; see [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * Slow when loading Flash/Java: These issues are usually caused by add-ons or by outdated plugins. First, upgrade all outdated plugins by checking [http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/]. If it's still slow, see [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * Slow to start up: This is most often caused by an extension delaying Firefox's startup. See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].

  • Has anyone worked out how to fix screen flicker on MBP late 2010 running snow leopard?

Hey, I have a MBP late 2010 (MacBookPro6,2) running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I'm having trouble with external screens. They work fine 70% percent of the time but the rest of the time there is intermittent flickering. This I have determined is a something with the computer and not the screen as other computers work on the screens without fault and the problem occurs on multiple screens when using the same laptop. This is a video of the flickering, http://youtu.be/vvAlhDQD7iw . I think it might be something in Snow Leopard as the problem does not persist when I'm using bootcamp. I think the flickering might have started after one of the Snow Leopard updates (10.6.4 maybe?) but this is not definate. I've had this problem for at least the last year but with a ramp in university work this semester this problem is really starting to be annoying. I tried turning off "Automatic graphics switching" and this had no effect whatsoever. The graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. I had a look for updated drivers from NVidia but these would not install saying the system was incompatible. I have seen similar problems on here and other places but either they have not had a solution or have had a solution which did not fix the problem for me. Anyhelp would be great, specially if Apple would tell me how to fix it.
    Regards Richard

Thanks Guys, I didn't try the different display settings as this wouldn't affect multiple screens (and when other computers are plugged in they use the same frequencies). I did try the update posted above but unfortunately this hasn't worked. So I decided to bite the nail and reinstalled Snow Leopard on top of the previous installation (ie without erasing the HD) and then updating it. It seems to be running better so may have been a problem with one of the updates. I'll report back if the flickering comes back though.

  • Move from Tiger to Snow Leopard Has Slowed Down MBP Fall '08

I had to upgrade to snow leopard recently to use new releases of some software I use (like MacSpeech Dictate). Since upgrading, the speed of my mac has slowed significantly. Expose used to happen immediately. Now, it takes 4-7 seconds. When I switch from one program that's already open to another program that's already open, it often takes 10-20 seconds to switch. Etc. I've been a mac guy since before the mac (used the Lisa) and I've never been this unimpressed with an "upgrade."
Is there something I can do to get back to a mac that works when I want it to work?

Sounds like you have some software which hasn't been tested with 10.6. See my upgrade FAQ* for resources to find out if this has happened:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
Downgrading is much harder, though is outlined in this tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=6183892
Note, for a MacBook Pro that shipped with less than 10.5, you must use the original MacBook Pro installer discs, or a clone backup to restore your system to 10.4.11 or earlier.

  • Has anybody had problems upgrading MBP 13inch (2010) to 8Gb RAM?

    Hi Folks,
I'm new to the Apple Support Communities.  I've searched the discussions on this issue but couldn't find something exactly the same. I installed two 4Gb, PC3-8500 DDR3-1066MHz memory sticks in my MacBook Pro 13 inch (2010 model), but it wouldn't boot up.  I then re-installed one of my old stock 2Gb sticks and the MacBook Pro booted and showed 6Gb memory under System Profiler.  The memory runs fine and I've checked the RAM using Rember and it passes all the tests.  I've had no freezes or other weird behaviour on the MBP with the 6Gb configuration but I just can't get it to boot with both 4Gb sticks installed.  Does anybody know what's going on here?
    Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem like you, just got my new 8gb (4gbx2) DDR3-1067Mhz, PC3-8500 from Vgen and I can't use both ram in my mid 2010 mackbook pro. I've checked the requirements before buying the ram with apple support and bought the ram as suggested by apple support regarding ram upgrading (I also read some posts saying that some people who upgrade the ram with 4GBx2 PC3-10600 instead of PC3-8500 had problem to boot but it boots fine if they combine 1 PC3-8500 + 1 PC3-10600). funny and wierd thing is both new ram are working fine because I tried to combine each new ram + 1 stock ram and they were installed fine, clockspeed is correct which is PC3-8500..I contacted apple store and they ask me to do the reset parameter ( Hold 'Option' + Command + P + R then boot, keep holding until you heard 'dong' sound twice and then release) but still not working either.
Then I also try to install only 1 single ram, both old stock ram were booting but both new ram won't boot...the only working method is to install 1 stock ram + 1 new ram (total only 6 GB of Ram)...this is really frustrating and it's ******* me off because I have followed instruction and bought the exact ram as required and suggested by apple and it's not working....**** it....how can thing like this happen..geez...Please somebody from apple explain this and give us solution...
Note : since bought items are not refundable so I try to call the store where I bought the new ram and had them agree to replace 1 pcs 4GB PC3-8500 ram with PC3-10600 ram and will see if it works with 2 different clockspeed Ram installed in my MBP Mid 2010 and will post the result again later after.
I'm using MBP 13" With Lion OSX 10.7.1 and 6 GB RAM (Apple, I want my other 2 GB Ram back)

  • MBP Late 2010, How can I install Win7 Boot Camp using External Optical Driv

    Hello:
I have a new MBP purchased in February. It's not the 2011 model. I replaced the Optical drive with an SSD drive and put the optical drive in an external enclosure. The Optical drive works great, reads, writes, etc. My Windows 7, Pro 64bit DVD works also, tested on a PC.
I use the Boot Camp assistant to create a partition. It them reboots and never starts up from the optical drive. I get an Apple logo alternating with a stop sign.
I have got back to OS X by starting with the Option key and choosing my OS X volume.
I tried booting to the DVD by using the option key, that did not work. I then choose the EFI option which allowed me to hit any key and appeared to boot from the external optical drive. Windows setup screen came up and I hit enter to start the file loading process. It eventually stopped when the progress bar was all the way across the screen. Then nothing.
    Questions {Please give definitive answers, not guesses, thanks :)}
    1) Is it possible to setup a boot camp Windows installation without an internal optical drive? Yes/No.
    2) If yes, how?
    3) I see the rEFIt utility has helped some but I read mixed reports. Will this help me boot and run Windows setup from an external optical drive? I don't want to install it if it's not known to be a certain fix.
    4) Is my only options to reinstall the optical drive?
I chatted to OWC the vendor that sells the bracket. They had no idea how to install a Windows BC partition without an internal drive.
I am seriously discouraged by what seems to be Apple wanting to control everything. I had a Mac Pro and Air book in my future but now, it's on hold.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

I tried what you are doing with a 2007 MBP, and could not get any Windows CD s to boot from an external optical drive, firewire or USB.
I think this is fundamental to Windows which won't boot from an external USB drive either even on a Windows machine (although I believe there may be complex ways of achieving this). I don't think this is Apple trying to control the world.
I ended up taking the MCE Optibay out and putting the original optical drive back in.
Just possible that something has changed between a 2007 MBP and 2010 MBP, but I doubt it.
If you want the second internal HD, you have two options:-
    1. Put the Apple optical back in, install Windows, then take out the optical and refit the SSD. The external optical will still be able to install windows apps and data etc, just not boot any windows install CDs or utilities (like Paragon rescue disks). You will not be able to do a Windows repair install without refitting the optical.
    2. Parallels, which has come a long way in the last two years. I am 99% certain that Parallels will install from an external optical.

  • Macbook Pro has slow start up after Time Machine restore

My 2.4 Ghz Santa Rosa MBP had Ubuntu Hardy and 10.5 on it. I played with Ubuntu for a while and decided to go back to OS X only. I wiped the HDD and reinstalled Leopard, then restored from a time machine back-up. Since then, my MBP has gone to a white blank screen for about 5 or 6 seconds before displaying an apple on start up. What could be causing this? I tried disk utility options, nothing worked, restored from a different back- up with no luck also. Any Ideas? My start up has slowed a very noticeable amount since going back to one OS
    Thanks in Advance

  • My MBP Mid 2010 with 1066mhz 8gb ram freezes and restarts while using safari. Any help?

Hi! I use MBP mid 2010. I upgraded my ram to 8gb 1066 mhz as per apple instructions. I run mountain lion. Everytime I watch a videoclip on youtube, it just freezes or mostly just turns off and restarts. I tried erasing disk twice but still same problem.

Corsair has two part numbers regarding 8GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM.
See image below - first image is for non Apple notebook/laptop - second image is for Macbook and Macbook Pro.
    Which RAM did you buy?

  • Mac Pro has slowed to a crawl - Please Help Me!

    Hello,
For some time now my Wireless or Wired Internet connection using my Mac Pro has slowed to almost nothing. For example, This page took 5 mins to load and now Internet use has become unusable.
I feel its my Mac Pro because all other Apple Computer run very fast wirelessly. I have (2) New iMac's (1) Apple TV and (1) Apple iPhone. All stream and surf the Internet blazingly fast.
My Mac Pro is constantly being redirected to other sites (mostly **** related) and a huge amount of Pop ups (even though pop ads are disabled in Safari). All Internet browsers perform the same on my Mac Pro or ANYTHING Internet related including WoW, Software updates or even iTunes Music Down loads.
I really feel that in some way (which is shocking) I am infected with "something" that is making my computer crawl on the Internet. Redirection of websites is just now very aggravating.
I am looking at the (2) Original Disks that came inside the Mac Pro Box. I'm seriously considering wiping my system clean and starting from scratch.
I currently hold NOTHING on my Factory 320GB HD other than programs.
I have installed (2) 1TB drives and created a RAID slice thus creating a single HD icon on my desktop that reads 1.8TB. Thats is where all my Music, Photos, and Movies reside.
    My question is....
When I wipe my system will that RAID be broken? Will I lose everything on those 2 drives or will using the restore CD's leave all that information in tact?
Please let me know before I proceed.
    Thank you for your time.
    John

Your RAID won't be touched. But back it up today if you haven't yet!
I use Firefox for security with noscript and some other filters, but I also hardened the router firewall to manually block services, ports and add rules - both incoming and outgoing.
You might want to look at LittleSnitch or NetBarrier and do some logging.
I've seen/heard where older routers and modems were fine, but not with Mac Pro or with Intel Macs in general and needed to be replaced or firmware updated. Problems with the latest updates for Airport have been seen by some, and worth checking into - on forums, news sites or hit google.
And of course check what processes are getting loaded and run; manually delete caches, history, metadata, even the bookmarks cache.
    ~/Library/Caches/Metadata
There are issues with fake Flash updates; normal sites (like CNN) suffering from SQL-injection. Best to run with javascript off for now.
Might want to look into ClamXav and other malware protection. But I would switch and see how Firefox and Opera behave. And turn off java, script, and plug-ins while you consider your options and try to find out why.

  • My mid 2011 MacBook Air has slowed down significantly overnight?

Last night my MacBook Air was working fine.
When I went to use it this morning, it has slowed down significantly. It takes awhile for it to respond to trackpad movement or the keyboard. Opening finder is delayed now, opening any app is delayed now. Booting it back up takes extra long now, probably around a minute compared to thirty seconds before.
I've tried an SMC reset, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions.
From what I can see, the hardware doesn't appear to be failing, but I could be wrong.
Can anyone help me out? What could possibly be going on with my MacBook? How did this happen overnight?

Your MacBook Air's memory is not upgradable, and as you already determined unused storage capacity is not a relevant factor.
There are many reasons a Mac may be performing slower than expected.
Back up your documents and everything else important to you before proceeding.
To help determine the possible causes of this behaviour read the following. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting:
Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red.
When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the following instructions:
Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Go to his website, download and run EtreCheck:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Etrecheck will be in your Downloads folder. Open it from there. You may see the following dialog box:
Click Open - etresoft contributes to this forum frequently and can be considered a trustworthy developer.
It will take a moment to run as it collects its data.
Copy and paste its output in a reply.
Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
After completing the above please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • MBP mid 2010 - 15" 2,4Ghz (Battery Problem)

    Hi guys.
I have a MBP mid 2010. My battery wont last more that 4.30 hours.
I have tried more than enough times to test' it.
Last Night with fully charged battery I was able to get 4.40 Hours.
    Bluetooth OFF
    Low monitor brightness
    Low keyboard illumination
    Air Port was on.
Basically web browsing and 4 or 5 youtube videos.
Did not make any software instalation or updates.
4.30 hours its just to low.
BTW it as 37 full charges
My work laptop wich is a Dell Latitude E6400 with a 9cell battery I get more than 5 hours. And it as way more full charge cycles.

Certainly not... but I'd rather source a complete antiglare clamshell lid and slap it on myself thus upgrading the machine, as long as I know I wouldn't have to replace the logic board as well... I've done plenty of surgery on notebooks, from removing a stuck business-card shaped CD from a 12" PowerBook G4 (requiring *complete* disassembly of the machine) to swapping ThinkPad T61 motherboards into T60 chassis creating a 15" 4:3 IPS FrankenPad which can take 8GB of ram... so I can handle swapping a display.
Local apple store hasn't told me clearly whether or not it's possible, just that they will only replace it with the original screen...
I can only find one logic board part # for a 2.4GHz mid-2010 15" MBP, which suggests to me that upgrading the screen should be no problem, but I'd love to hear from someone who's done it or can give a definitive answer as to whether or not it's possible...

  • New Mac has slowed down dramatically

My mac is only a few weeks old and I have noticed that it has slowed down dramatically. It takes quite awhile for programs to load. The fill-in boxes are not keeping up with my typing and it is getting quite annoying. I am new to Imac, so I am not sure how to go about checking the processing speed, etc. Any help would be appreciated.
