10.8.3  - Messages still out of order after waking from sleep or restart

This bug is still present in Messages, although it was supposed to be fixed with 10.8.3.
I've tried both the App store update to 10.8.3 as well as the combo updater. When I check Messages' version after each, it's 7.0.1 (3318), and the copyright date is 2002-2012. So I'm assuming that the application is not being updated, although I don't know what version of Messages was included in 10.8.2.
Anyone else have the same problem?

Hi,
It is the same app version and build number.
The Apple Doc linked from the COMBO download page states the "fix" applies to Messages on waking from Sleep and at no other occasion.
It seems that people are also reporting the iMessages are out of order during the Sync (sort of a Known Issue since Messages beta when New iMessages are Instant  and mix with a Sync that is in progress).
They are also reporting them out of order even when not syncing (i.e. the Mac is On and Awake  just not the device in use).
Of these some people are reporting that in some cases the restarting of the app restores the correct order.
It seems this may be the ones that arrive as New during the sync process rather than other occasions.
What is not clear is what steps might help.
Obviously removing the Apple ID in the Mac Version (Sign Out) and shutting the app, restarting it and adding the Apple ID again sound more involved than a fix should be.
However refreshing the Link to the server may be the way to go.

  • Thunderbolt Display has issue with weird washed-out colors after waking from sleep (after upgrade to Mavericks)

I've got a Thunderbolt Display that I use with my Macbook Air (mid 2012) - usually in clamshell mode.
When I let the computer go to sleep, and then wake it up by clicking the mouse, the monitor turns back on but the colors are washed out and purple looking.
The display goes back to normal when I unplug and replug it to my laptop.
I first noticed this problem after upgrading to Mavericks.
I made a video demonstrating the issue here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19179-MVpWA&feature=youtu.be
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Same thing for me too.  Late 2012 13" MBP Retina.  I have to unplug the Thunderbolt cable and plug it back in.
This has only started for me in the last two days.  The first two weeks of Mavericks was ok.
Update:  I just got back from a trip.  I was using the laptop separate from the Thunderbolt display.  I hadn't restarted since I returned and connected the monitor.  I've just rebooted, and put the computer to sleep.  After resuming from sleep, the display is ok.  Maybe try rebooting?  I'll update if it continues.

  • "Washed out" screen after waking from sleep?

Over the past couple of months, when either waking from sleep or coming off the screen saver, the display has a washed out look to it. The colors can be restored by either reinitializing the screen saver or putting the computer to sleep and waking it back up again. I tried the PRAM and PMU resets with no success. The problem seems to be getting worse. (more frequent) Any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated.

hey, just adding my story to yours cause it seems to be a similar issue.
Every now and the when My MBP wakes from sleep or screensaver, the screen seems to lose its calibration, it gets all blueish. When I go to Display preferences to see what's there, the computer sort of recovers from the flaw and loads proper colors. I can almost her it say Oh yeah, color calibration!..

  • After 10.8.4 update messages still out of order

The 10.8.4 update supposedly includes a fix for an issue that may cause iMessages to display out of order in Messages.  It has NOT solved this issue, at least not for me.

  • Messages won't sign-in to gchat or aim after waking from sleep.

I have installed the Messages beta and occasionally I cannot connect to the Jabber or AIM servers for GChat and AIM. Sometimes I will be randomly booted from the servers while connected. Currently when I woke my computer from sleep I choose to connect and it won't do so.

    Hi,
Some of this is to do with how fast an App can "wake" compared to how fast the Mac can re-establish the Internet connection.
The only clear method is to either use the Messages/iChat menu > Accounts and Untick then re-tick the ones you want to Login (fully) or the same Menu > Preferences and Untick "Use this account" then reselect to Login (Again)

I've been dealing with this for a while now and have come up with 2 new errors. This is happening when the computer is woken from a long state of sleep. I can't seem to reproduce it simply by sleeping & waking the computer.

    Hi-
I'd test the RAM, as errors from the RAM handling data can corrupt system software on the hard drive.
I'd test the hard drive, for above stated reason, as well as other corruption (non-RAM related errors) can also cause data access problems.
Beyond this, data access will occur via the VRAM of the graphics card, and via the cache of the processor.
Since you have been down the graphics card route, cache malfunction could be a possibility.
Along with Rember, run the system test from the AHT (Apple Hardware Test).
*A couple of notes on the Ballistix memory:*
The voltage rating is 2.8v, whereas the G5 uses a 2.5v rated DIMM.
DDR2 memory is rated at 2.1v, but the dual core G5 is rated at 1.8v.
Dual core G5's support CAS ratings of 4 and 5, but the Ballistix are CAS 3.
Crucial memory selector *does not recommend* Ballistix for any Mac model.
Granted, the RAM may function, but it does not meet spec, and can create phantom problems.
    More notes from MacGuru's forum:
[Norm LeMieux] ...there's potentially another issue with DDR2 that may not have existed before for Macs: high-speed memories. If you look at Crucial's Quad-compatible modules (1GB), you'll see PC2-4200 modules with 4-4-4-10 timing at the top, followed by PC2-5300 modules (which are CL=5 @ 667MHz, but probably 4-4-4-10 @ 533MHz). This is the performance when the modules are powered by the standard voltage of 1.8V.
Ê The high-performance Ballistix modules can do 3-3-3-12 @ 533MHz, but they require a higher voltage: 2.1V. This is fine if you have control over your memory rail, but the Mac does not. And since the SPDs are programmed with "JEDEC-standard PC2-4200 values", the OS is just going to program the memory controller to run the same (4-4-4-10). Thus, there's no point [currently, on the Mac] is buying the high-performance modules which are $160 more per 2GB kit.
Ê Crucial has admitted that, if the system cannot operate at 2.1V, then it will "throttle down" and run at the standard rate. This mirrors what others have been saying elsewhere on the 'Net, but hopefully there's a little more information here.
I've seen many posts of system troubles that were the result of trying to use memory that was "better" than what is spec'd.
The facts of the matter are, that Mac's cannot really benefit from so-called "high-performance" memory due to the control of memory speed by the SPD.
Furthermore, using a product like Ballistix, which is targeted to the PC overclockers crowd, tempts fate with memory that is not of the spec put forth by Apple Developers.

Your caches may be corrupted. Try a Safe Boot by pressing the Shift key. You should see a progress bar. It's important to let this Safe Boot run its course without interruption; otherwise, you can trash the file system badly enough to require a restore from backup. (Been there, done that. Lesson learned!)

  • Why do my photographs get out of order after I burn them to a CD-R?

Why do my photographs get out of order after I burn them to a CD-R?  They are in a folder in desktop and in order before I burn the CD.  What am I doing wrong?

    Hi there,
I don't know if it's too late to help, but I had this same problem and have found a solution that does not involve an iPhoto-only-CD or a slideshow.  So for future users with this issue:
The photos get out of order because iPhoto's software arranges them superficially as you please, but when you put them back in an ordinary folder the computer wants to arrange them by date or file name (the original file name).  You're not doing anything wrong, it's just the difficult thing about switching between an application and file storage on the finder.
The word you're looking for is Export, under the file menu in iPhoto.
Make a new folder on the desktop (or wherever).   Use the Export function under file.  A box should appear.  Choose the quality of JPeg you want, etc.  This next part is key:  if you set the "File Name" bar to "Sequential" the photos will be renamed in your order when they are sent to your new folder.  This way, even if they are sorted by name they will appear in the order you want.  You can also put a prefix on it, for instance "Paris-" would give you files named "Paris-01", "Paris-02" etc.  Now you should be able to burn the new folder on a disk using the usual methods.  And your PC friends will be able to see it!
P.S. you could also just upload the ablum to flickr, facebook, or something in the cloud and keep your order that way.  But if you want a hard copy this is way is handy.

  • Camera roll pictures are out of order after upgrading to iOS 8.1

It's nice that iOS 8.1 brings camera roll back. However, pictures are out of chronological order. I'm using iPhone 5s. I upgraded iOS from 8.0.2 to 8.1, and noticed this issue.

That's weird cause my videos are all interspersed with everything else like they used to be, which unfortunately means it's inconsistently screwing up too.  My pics start with 2007 (first year i got an iphone) then run up to about 2014 vaguely in order, then back to 2013 where everything's all out of order, then down to 2012 again (also out of order), then 2011, 2010, 2009 etc like it's running backwards to 2007.  Then once it hits 2007 again, it jumps to this past july.
    SO aggravating!

  • Camera Roll is out of order after Trimming clips

My iPhone 4 was getting full, so I decided to go and trim down some of the videos I had recorded. Now, the videos on my camera roll are all out of chronological order. The software put them right up front of the list, as if it was using the date I edited them, not the date that they were created. This is no good! How do I get my videos back in chronological order?
    -Ben

Problem solved - but unsure of the cause. Turns out the ones that were out of order were duplicates of photos that appeared further up in my Camera Roll (and in the proper place, chronologically). Unsure why I had the duplicates, but simply deleted them to resolve.

  • Mac loses internet after wake from sleep, still connected to router

    Hi All,
So, I see similar threads, but I'm not sure if this is the same problem. Here's what happening:
-When I wake my Mac from sleep it usually (but not always) loses its internet (but not wifi) connection.
-The loss happens 10-15 seconds AFTER it wakes up. If I go to Safari/Firefox right after it wakes up, I can bring up webpages fine for about 10 seconds. Then, suddenly, pages stop loading.
-The wifi stays connected (I have an airport router) the whole time, and if I go to the airport utility, everything looks fine.
-I know this is not a problem with my internet or my router because I have tried opening web pages on both my iPhone (connected to wifi with cellular off) as well as my PC laptop (I only have it for one program that the company does not make for the Mac and I need for work, haha), and both browse the internet just fine even though my Mac says there is no internet.
-If I restart my Mac, the internet works fine. This is a simple fix, however it's also annoying to have to do it all the time.
-This is happening in different locations, not just on my wifi. It happens in coffee shops, hotels, and airports too.
-Not sure if this is related, but I have also been getting messages in iTunes saying that I need to authorize my computer or apps will be deleted.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
    Any suggestions???

What Mac OSX version are you running? "iOS 8.2" as currently shown in your profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple mobile devices.
If your computer has automatically connected to a lot of networks, say, during travel, that might hinder waking as the computer looks for what networks it remembers. Go to System Preferneces > Network and select your wirelss connection from the left-hand pane. Then click the "Advanced" button in the main pain. That will show the list of networks you Mac has stored:
There could be a lot. Clear out all networks stored there except those you use on a weekly basis. The little box with the "-" icon clears unwanted networks. Restart the computer and see if thising work better.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
Download and run Etrecheck, a safe way to post a snapshot of your config without revealing any personal information. I'm concerned you did not get all of Norton, or have some other dreck like CleanMyMac or MacKeeper lurking.
