10.8.4 MacBook Pro Retina 15" won't complete installation

Hello I've tried repeatedly to install 10.8.4 from 10.8.3 normally these updates have been error free and straight forward, however this time the restart begins and it will say wait for about 5-6 mins and then an error message consistently says "an unexpected error has occured, please restart your computer" not once has it been different or ever completed. I've tried repairing the disk to no avail.
Does anyone have anyone suggestions?
its been plugged in everytime with 100% battery as well.

Give this a try:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
After this is completed download and install 10.8.4 Mountain Lion Update v10.8.4 (Combo).

Macbook Pro Retina 15" won't turn on. The charger light is orange. I tried all tips that Apple provides on the official site -  http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204267. Any ideas?

If you purchased it from Apple directly, they have a 14 exchange or refund policy.  Keep that in mind when you go to the store.
    Ciao.

My MacBook Pro retina 2013 won't charge. I've checked all connections which are all ok. Little red light shows on magnetic plug, instead of usual green.

If you are seeing a Red LED, you may have a faulty MagSafe Adapter.
I remember reading that the orange light is produced by a combination of a Red and Green LED. If that's the case, It seems that the adapter isn't lighting the green LED properly at that time.
I would suggest you seek service with your nearest Genius Bar (Apple Retail Store) or Apple Authorised Service Provider as they have access to diagnostics which may assist in isolating any hardware issues you may be experiencing.
    Cheers.

  • Macbook pro retina battery won't charge fully

    Hello,
Im not sure why but my 1 year old macbook pro retina 15inch won't fully charge. It gets to a charge between 75% and 88% and it will at that point stop charging.
I have attached an image below that shows how the battery has stopped charging. I have taken very good care of this laptop and am very surprised to see such an issue.
    Thanks,
    FF

    Have you tried resetting SMC?

  • Macbook pro retina trackpad won't click

Macbook Pro retina display 10.8.4 2.7 ghz i7:
Trackpad started to not respond to click by mechanicle nor touch inputs. Seems to happen after waking up from sleep and after a period of time reverts to normal function. Used the Pram reset and it does not make a difference. Observations I have noted:
    1) Track pad does not respond in the user selection screen
    2) Track pad does not respond while in different users accounts
    3) Track pad always responds in the option startup
    4) Track pad does not respond while in recovery mode
    5) When selecting windows bootcamp trackpad always responds
It seems to me that the trackpad is having a software issue within Mac OSX and it is not  an issue with the hardware. I tried to install the Trackpad update 1.0 but I get an error stating that it is not for this type of computer.

Try a Safe Mode startup and see if it works ok while in that mode. Hold down the Shift key before the startup chime. Will take awhile longer to finish startup. Will only load Apple system extensions while in this mode. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
If it works ok in Safe, means you have installed some third-party software interfering with the trackpad. You'll have to do some sleuthing to determine which.

  • Macbook pro retina 15 won't sleep, fan runs hard

Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 15" will not sleep when I close the cover. When I return to it, the fan is running full blast. This has happened every so often ever since it was new and is now happening again. All apps are closed.

Try an SMC reset. Follow the method "for a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • Macbook pro retina display won't wake on windows 8.1

    Hi,
I have installed windows 8.1 on my new Macbook Pro with retina with using bootcamp no problem there only issue is after my laptop goes to sleep it won’t wake up. It seems that the issue is with the display driver or something related to it because even when only display is off I have the same problem.

I am aware there are symbols. My technical issue is the MagSafe2 adapter. What people typically do is connect their laptops to the wall when they're battery dies off. No biggie. I can attach it to the outlet. Well, when I connect the adapter to the outlet, nothing happens. Nothing happens at home, at Starbucks, at McDonalds, at other people's home.
When I brought this up with technical support in August when I bought it, technical support person said I might have issues with my electrical wiring at home. I've never had issues with electrical wiring at home because my other Apple products work fine when connected to the outlet. My July 2011 MacBook Pro charged without a hitch.
And I was able to charge my Retina MBP only at night or very early in the morning.
But this weekend, I couldn't charge it at all. I'm starting to think it might be the MagSafe2 adapter problem.
I feel rather ridiculous buying the highest-end of the 15 inch Retina MBP. It cost me over $3000. Right now I'm working with my 5 year old Hewlett Packard laptop. At least my HP works, which can't be said about this top-of-the line Apple product.
Probably explains why Apple stocks are falling. At $3000 I shouldn't be having these type of problems.
    Sheeeesh!!!

  • My macbook pro retina 13inch won't recognize my external drive (LaCie 1TB  porsche design)

    Hello,
I've had this drive for about 8 months and it's always worked fine. But when i connect it now to my macbook it won't show up anywhere, not with disk utility system profiler, nothing. However it does turn, i can hear and feel it spinning. Also when i connect to a windows it does show up. So I checked if it was the usbport of my macbook but when connecting my ipod there was no problem.
    Any ideas?
    Thx!!

    Hello valleke92,
It sounds like you are unable to see your external HDD when you plug it in via USB. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article named:
    USB and FireWire Quick Assist
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1151
    Check the connections
If you're using a cable, make sure that both ends of the cable are properly and securely connected to your device and Mac. Try unplugging your device and then plugging it back in. If you're connecting a FireWire device, make sure that the cable is no more than 15 feet (4.5 meters) long. If you're connecting a USB device, make sure that the cable is no more than 16 feet long. If you're making a direct connection, make sure that the device's connector is fully seated in your computer's port. If your device also connects to a power outlet, make sure it has power.
    Check the system requirements
Check your device's documentation or packaging again, or go to the manufacturer's website, to verify that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements to use the device.
    Check your device's power
If the device has a power switch, make sure it is on. Try turning your device off and then on again.  Some devices require more power that the bus supplies. If your device came with an external power adapter, always connect it to a power source in for the best performance from your device.
    Restart your Mac
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve issues. From the Apple menu, choose Restart to restart your computer. Once your Mac is finished starting up, test your device again.
    Check the software
See if a newer version of software is available for your device if it requires software. Visit the product manufacturer's website.
    Check your device's power
Make sure that your device is on if it has a power switch; try turning your device off and then on again.
Try a different port and cable
Connect your device to a different USB or FireWire port on your Mac. If you connected your device to a USB or FireWire hub or to a port on another USB or FireWire device that's connected to your Mac (known as daisy chaining), connect your device directly to a port on your computer. Some devices need to draw power from a USB or FireWire port to work; if you connect a device to a non-powered hub (one that isn't plugged in to a power source) or to a low-power port (such as the one on your USB keyboard), it may not work. If you have another known-good cable, try swapping the cable to see if that works. If it does, you should replace the problematic cable.
There is additional troubleshooting in the article if you need it, but it should all work you towards a resolution.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • My new Macbook pro retina 2013 won't stay asleep

When I put it to sleep by closing the cover or by selecting sleep, it sometimes stays asleep, but mostly not. The worst thing is I sometimes find it with the fan running on high, very hot, and when I lift the lid and log in (it requires me to loging twice), I check the Activity Monitor and it shows at the top, using the CPU, 5 "ManagedClient" processes, each using 100% of the CPU. Something is very wrong. Several times after being asleep, it had obviously restarted and as message on a plain screen said "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" - still an issue but not as bad as the first one I described. I also find, after any and every problem - which threre have been many of, the computer will not restart or shut down. It goes as far as the spinning wheel and stays there and I have to Force power down.
Any expert help here would be really appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Fred

It seems Mavericks has quite a few bugs, including this one. This problem did not occur in previous versions of the OS, even with the same hardware.

  • USB ports not working in Windows-7 on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 after Bootcamp installation

    1) INSTALLATION
Using Bootcamp (v. 5.1.1, OS X Mavericks) in combination with an original Microsoft installation DVD disc using an external optical CD/DVD drive. Note, the installation is NOT from an ISO image. In the Bootcamp setup window only the lower two of the three setup options are clicked, namely a) to download Windows-7 drivers to a USB stick, and b) to partition the harddrive and then to install Windows.
    2) PROBLEM
After the initial Windows-7 installation no devices attached to the USB ports can be found under Windows-7. The ports are dead. Also the WLAN did not work, so no internet connection was possible.
    3) CAUSE
The problem is caused when you use a USB 3.0 stick as destination for the Bootcamp driver downloads. It seems that Windows-7 cannot recognize the USB 3.0 stick properly during the Bootcamp/Windows installation process, thus failing to do perform a proper installation of the Windows-7 drivers.
    4) SOLUTION
Use a USB 2.0 stick and everything will work perfectly.
    Follow these steps in order:
    1) Connect your external DVD drive to a USB port and insert the Windows installation disc
    2) Start the Bootcamp utility
    3) In Bootcamp, remove the failed Windows-7 installation and partition
    4) In Bootcamp, redo the entire Bootcamp process, but this time using a USB 2.0 stick
    5) Follow all further steps in Bootcamp and later in the Windows-7 installation process
    6) At the end of the installation procedures you will be asked to confirm the installation of all Bootcamp/Windows drivers.
    7) Bootcamp installs all the drivers and your Windows-7 installation will work perfectly.

Ok, where is this Intel driver? There is no such thing "program manager" so I am guessing you mean the Programs and features control panel, but on my machine that whole window is blank after a clean install. I still cannot get the USB ports to activate. Two fresh installs and several different USB sticks later and no luck.  Should I just give up and go to Windows 8.1?  I really need Windows 7 to work if at all possible. Other devices shows one USB controller without driver software so I suppose that's the culprit. There are other USB devices installed under the USB section of Device Manager, but they apparently have nothing to do with the USB ports themselves, just devices like the trackpad etc.  I've spent two hours on this so far and it's getting out of control.  Why doesn't this work with generic USB drivers?

  • My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

My iPhone 5 won't connect to my macbook pro retina over bluetooth?

Ah, sure it actually won't.  I have the same problem, and I contacted Apple Support.  They told me that there is an incompatability between the iphone 5 and MacBook Pro Retina such that Bluetooth pairing is not possible.
The Support Agent actually had the audacity to tell me this was part of the design of the OS on the MacBook Pro, like Windows people saying, "That's not a bug.  It's a feature!!"
Personally, I think this is insane.  While I was trying to tether the iphone to the MacBook Pro retina for an internet connection, there are other reasons related to file transfers for which one would want to pair the iphone 5 with the MacBook Pro retina.
I am hoping this "feature" is fixed in iOS 7, and/or in some dot release of Mac OS 10.8.
By the way, the personal hotspot feature on my Verizon iphone 5 works great either via a wifi or USB connection.  There are occaisions, however, when one would 1) not have a USB cable, and/or 2) have another wifi relationship between the phone and a network that one would not want to have to "forget" in order for it not to connect to that wifi network.  The Macbook will not find the iphone as a wifi hotspot if the iphone is connected to wifi in the first place.  At least mine won't.

  • My new macbook pro retina won't connect to my iPhone 4s via bluetooth

Just bought macbook pro retina. have had iPhone 4s for two years and use it to tether my iPad to regularly no problem. however the macbook pro won't connect to the iPhone via bluetooth. it recognises it's there and a connection code is displayed, but when I enter the code it won't connect and the phone insists that I agree to 'forget this device'. how do I enable tethering so I can use the 3g signal to browse on my laptop whilst travelling please?

Only thing I could suggest would be to "Reset Network Settings" on the phone (Settings> General> Reset>) . Of course, this will forget and delete any saved Wi-Fi or network configurations, but if that's not a problem for you then, maybe worth a shot.
Although saying that, I think iCloud remembers old settings (if you are connected and sharing network configurations), so may not be a total loss.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15 late 2013 won't turn on after being sleep

I've been having the an issue with my macbook pro retina 15 late 2013 that I bought 2 weeks ago. After a long time of being slept when I try to turn it on, it won't. I press the power button several times and nothing happens, after a long time of trying then it turns on. and I get the message that the machine turn off because of an error but nothing else. I think that's not ok for such an expensive laptop. I had the first version of the macbook pro retina display and never had an issue like this even though I install a lot of apps from app store and third party apps also. I was running parallels with 3 microsoft windows os and never had an issue like this. In this case I haven't installed anything on my new macbook pro besides parallels and the windows seven os. So I don't know if I should take it to the apple store maybe they could change it for another one I don't know.
Does anyone have the same problem?
    sorry for my english

Well I have this problem too, do you get a message saying 'an error has occured please press a button to restart' or something similar when you just brosing the internet or watching a movie.
P.S I use safari and QT.

Just had that happen to me.
First, run Disk Utility and see if the SuperDrive (it is an Apple SuperDrive isn't it?) is listed. Is the disk you inserted shown? If not, hold down the option key and click the Apple menu - choose System Information and when that shows up, choose USB. See if it's listed there. If it is but neither the drive nor the disk you inserted appears on the Desktop, the side bar of the Finder window, or Disk Utility, return it for a refund (if it's within 14 days of purchase) or a replacement. That's what I had to do a few hours ago and the replacement works as it should.
BTW, if you want the disk you inserted back, and pressing the trackpad as you reboot doesn't eject the disk, as a last resort run Terminal and enter (copy and paste the following)
    /usr/bin/drutil eject
to try to force the disk to eject. It probably won't work (it didn't for me) but if it does, at least you get that disk back.

  • IMovie and iPhoto won't update on Used Macbook Pro Retina

I purchased a used macbook pro retina and did the usually initial setup for the laptop. My issue is that these two stock apps won't update in the app store. I recieve a message asking me to login using the ID that was used to purchase the app. I am assuming this is the ID of the previous owner , which of course I do not have. Any Ideas ???

The MBP needs to be disassociated from the original owners Apple ID. The original owner needs to call Apple Care to request that. Or if you have a sales receipt that proves you legally have purchased the MBP they may do it for you.
Then the MBP needs to be wiped clean and the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac installed using OS X Recovery. You can also reinstall the iLife apps, which you should accept into your Apple ID in the Mac App Store on the Purchaes pane.
