10.8.5 Supplemental update is very buggy

I am on a Mac Pro 2.8 (3.1) 2008 model.  12 Gb ram and a radeon 5870.  This supplemental update has been pretty horrible.  I have had the following issues: messed up sleep, random wake ups, and one hard crash.  I have also had the long sleep delay where the fans crank up and it takes forever to sleep...only a restart cures this, which is pretty useless.  The mach file showing but that was fixed with a terminal command.  Lost video chat icon on iMessage for a while but that has now mysteriously returned.  The last annoying bug I have suffered with is what seems like horribly reduced audio quality out of the Apple LED 24 inch cinema display speakers.  It sounds like 22kz mono both input and output.
I would rate this update a full on zero out of ten, for creating problems that never existed in 10.8.5.
Anyone else having these issues?
Rupe.

I'm not having those same problems, but my USB3 external drives attached via a USB3 hub still are ejected improperly when the machine goes to sleep.  Also, I've had aliases on the desktop disappear for no reason.  I regret updating to 10.8.5 due to all the weird problems, and the supplemental update fixed a few things but it's still buggy...  Fortunately, no data corruption from this.  I keep my fingers crossed.
Since desktop sales represent 15% of Apple's revenues (and dropping), it's just a matter of time before they dump desktops all together. I see no reason why Apple would care if the desktop OS is buggy.

I currently have a DROID RAZR M and I'm 1 year into my 2 year contract.  Since the Kitkat update, the phone won't stay charged and it's very buggy.  I know this is not Verizons fault but it's also not mine. I would like to change my phone to an iPhone 5s and keep my same plan but switch to the Edge program. Is this possible? I don't think I should have to pay an early termination fee or anything like that since my phone has become almost unusable. I know under normal circumstances you have to wait 2 yrs to upgrade but due to the update and the poor service I'm now getting I hope Verizon can make an exception. Thank you.

How recently did you switch?  If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account.  The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices.  I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...

  • I updated my verizon iphone 4 to 2.7 and now my phone will randomly shut off and is very "buggy". Is there any way I can downgrade to 2.6?

Exactly as the title states. The 2.7 update is HORRIBLE and made my phone very buggy. I beleive I had the 2.0 or 2.1 software before this update and I was fine with that. Anyway to go back to the old software? If I restore to an earlier date then i'll lose all the new numbers ive added to my contacts since then

Click here, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and then run the 10.6.8 combo updater.

  • Captivate 2.0 Very Buggy After Import of SWF File (Flash 8)??

    Where should I begin...
    Issue 1
I just updated to Cap 2 and started using it. I have come
across a few very weird issues. Everyting works fine until I import
a swf file to the stage. After I import a swf file to the stage I
realize I made a mistake in the swf file. So I updated the swf in
Flash 8 and publish it. I then went into Cap 2 and tried to update
the file (which I noticed that the update button has been removed.)
When I go to import and import the updated file, it does not update
it. I had to close the program and reboot before it would recognize
the new file??? Sounds like a caching issue of some sorts, but very
    buggy in my eyes.
    Issue 2
So now I have the new file in... great! But when I try to use
one of the drop down menus from the top tool bar, the menu
disappears immeditly after I have clicked on it??? The only way to
get my menu's back is to close the program and reopen it.
    Issue 3
I just recently found another problem... I was trying to work
with Cap 2 in its crazy state, and I pulled one of the bars on the
timeline torwards the end of the screen and the timeline
disappeard??? So I went to view and clicked timeline... no change.
Now I do not have a timeline??? I have tried running a reapir and I
even tried several different new projects with different swf files
to see if it was just that file and I have the same results.
Sorry so lengthly on my issues but this just sucks and I need
    help!! Anybody got any ideas!??
    Thank you!!

    Hi SaSQuaCh69247,
Issue 1 :- Select the SWF file in library, right click, and
    select update.
Issue 2 :- Actually it could be valid for Issue 1 also. It
seems like SWF file you are trying to import, does some action
like, importing another swf or connecting to server on the first
frame itself. Captivate will try to play the first frame of SWF
when you import them. Try creating a keyframe with the stop action
as the first frame in your SWF, and see if you still have the
    issue.
Issue 3 :- The approach I am mentioning over here is
generally the last approach which I will take in such scenerios,
but since you have already experimented a little, so try this.
    Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application
    Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    Rename captivate_v20.dat as captivate_v20_org.dat.
    Restart Captivate Application.
    thanks

  • Is fw2.2 very buggy or i´m wrong?

    Hello
after reading many posts, it´s my feeling that the fw2.2 is very buggy.
I´m still with 2.1 and so far so good. But i never read many errors about the 2.1 that i read about the fw2.2

We haven't had any problems with either of our phones with the 2.2 update. Neither have our friends.

  • B210a Very Buggy

I have many problems with B210a printer. I did recieve the registration email with the code to enter in the hp eprint app but when i tap the link or open the app seperately there is no option anywhere to complete the registration. Btw my airprinting worked when i first bought the printer but has had a mind of its own after a few months, so i am trying again but with no luck. I cannot find the printer anymoreon the same wifi network or even when i enter the exact ip address. Very very buggy printer, have updated all drivers still have troubleshooting icon in device manager and all the options on the printers touchscreen that i need to help me in all suggested troubleshooting processes dont work, time out, cant connect etc... Have to plug in Laptop everytime i want to print and even that has been buggy on occasion. Getting ready to 'Office Space' it...

    Interesting. Lots of issues here.
#1 has been fixed a few times (for a few different cases/reasons). #2 seems to be fixed. #3 seems to be fixed. #4 seems to be fixed, but a few scenarios still exist that are "by design". The design is that you should only do one thing at a time, but your
exact issue seems to be fixed. #5 seems to be fixed. #6 is interesting. That feature used to exist. It was removed because it was causing too much trouble and we moved to a better editor without the feature. Many web browsers now build that feature in, so
    it was out of scope/plan.

  • Very Buggy Flash 10.2 - different Graphic Cards

    Hi...
Flash Player 10.2 seems to be very "buggy".
    My system:
Win Vista 32Bit Home Premium, all updates
Firefox 3.6.13 with the actuall Flash 10.2...
    I have two GPUs (Hybrid)
    - onboard Intel Media Accelerator, Intel Mobile Family 4 --> Flash 10.2 do not work!!
Some videos are showing only a black area or a not moving picture... mostly you can hear the sound.
and an extra decidedly graphic card (GPU)
-nVidia GeForce 9600M GT --> and there Flash 10.2 works!
Now if have loaded and installed the old Flash 10.1, latest version.....
    ... and all works fine!
So, now I will wait for an bug release.
    update:
The problem is not more less with FF 3.6.15!
... and i have the same problem with IE8 on the same computer
At first with 10.2.152.26 and now branch 10.2.152.32.... it's all the same

Do you have the latest device drivers installed for your video card?
Did you try to disable Hardware Acceleration?

  • Still problems with external harddrive after sleep although 10.8.5 supplemental update is installed

I am on an iMac 24" late 2007. The external drive is a Hitachi (HGST) Touro 1TB (other drives are fine and never had a problem not even before the supplemental update). Disk utility finds no problems with the HD (had volume repaired never the less).
Is this just my iMac or are others here also still confronted with hd sleep problems after the supplemental update?
    Thanks for your input.

  • E70 is very buggy

I got me an E70 just few days ago. Though the phone otherwise is very nice, unfortunately the firmware of the phone seems to be still very, very buggy, I'm having a lot of problems with everything.
The biggest problem is that somehow the phone seems to think that its memory is full when just one programme is running. For example if I'm running Nokia Business Center to read my company email, I can't read my sms's at the same time - the phone tells me that it has no free memory. However, at the same time according to the file manager just a small part of the memory is used. Running few programmes at the same time is very essential for my smartphone usage.
It is also not unusual for the phone to completely crash in situations like this (and unfortunately not only then).
This probably is a problem that can be fixed by a firmware upgrade, but no one seems to know if a firmware upgrade is on its way and when will it be available. Is there any information of when and whether these very serious problems will be fixed?

I have to agree. My first use was fine. A spreadsheet with 10 rows and making a chart of it. But when I imported an excel spreadsheet with 3 years of step data (pedometer), 976 rows and trying to select 360 rows to make a yearly chart, Numbers went into crawl mode. Just updating the chart title the computer would capture one character per 30 or 40 seconds. When I selected a chart element it would take 20 to 40 seconds to select. I could not delete a chart series by selecting it and hitting the delete key. In short, it appears that making a few quick tables with just a few rows to support a presentation spreadsheet is ok, but trying to use Numbers to analyze any amount of data quickly becomes too time consuming to be practical.

  • My iPod touch is downloading and updating apps very slow more than an hour.

My iPod touch 4th gen 32gb verson 4.3.1 is downloading and updating apps very slow more than an hour. I just got it a day ago and I backed up all my apps music and pictures and videos from iTunes. Few months ago I had an iPod touch but I lost it and it was working fine. Luckily before I lost it i backed up everything to iTunes so now everything that was in my old iPod is now in my new iPod. Anyways, When I first bought it I straight away backed up everything and saw that i had many updates on my apps. I started updating it all at once but even the first one was not loading at all and mty ipod was hanging many times during the updates so i cancelled all the updates. i even tried it on my computer and it was taking forever but my laptop does updating and downloading apps slower than my ipod so that doesnt matter. Even when I download an app on my iPod now its take more that an hour. So i was wondering, is my iPod slow cause I backed up too many things when i just got it . I have about 120 apps 150 plus photos and 70 videos and I backed it up all in one night on the day i got my ipod. So now I'm restoring my iPod and updating it to IOS 5 and see what happens. Hopefully it will be faster then but I still need to know what is main problem of m iPod hanging and slow updating/downloading. Need a reply ASAP. Thanks

Still you can switch it off while syncing.
You can also do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears)

  • 10.8.2 Supplemental update crashes?

    Hi All,
How are you getting on with the 10.8.2 supplemental update? Mine results in yet more problems.
After the update and subsequent restart, all was fine for about 4 hours, then total lock-up. I had to force restart my MBA and on boot-up I got loads of error messages scrolling on the grey apple screen, followed by a bunch of error text overlayed on the apple icon. To continue the re-boot I was invited to press a key or wait - I was too slow to take a pic of the screen to post here.
Any one else experiencing this and have advice?
    Rob.

I had this problem and I used Disk Utility to find and repair my drive. I rebooted normally and all is now well.

  • Big hard drive problem after 10.8.5 supplemental update

Hello, I just tried installing the 10.8.5 supplemental update, but now I can't restart my iMac at all. It keeps trying to reinstall the update, and then shuts down. I can restart from the recovery HD, but I can't reinstall the previous software as it says that both of my disks are locked, the main HD and the recovery HD. I tried disk repair, but it says the main HD can't be repaired. Is there any way to unlock the disks? Any other options? Thanks.

You will have to do internet recovery OS X: About OS X Recovery
or Mountain Lion Recovery disk assistant  OS X Recovery Disk Assistant v1.0
If you have a third party utility like disk warrior or techtool  DiskWarrior 4 - The Disk Utility for Mac Disk Repair, Mac Directory Repair, Mac Disk Recovery, Mac Data Recovery or Techtool Pro 7
they might be able to fix your drive, but this is unlikely.
If you can get the drive repaired and you are still game for the update, I'd use the combo installer instead. A lot of people have had problems with the supplemental installer. I just used the combo installer the other day for a problem I was having with iTunes, worked like a charm. OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)
If the recovery partition will let you, you might have to erase the drive and reinstall ML and reinstall your documents from backups, which I hope you have.
If it won't let you, and DW or TT or Disk Utility won't fix or erase your drive, then the drive has probably failed, and you'll have to replace it.

  • IMac-27inch model (late 2012) running slow after Mountain Lion 10.8.5 supplemental update

I have the iMac 27-inch (late 2012 model), 8GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive.  All of a sudden after the Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Supplemental update it started running like molasses (apps take forever to open, takes forever to wake out of sleep, long boot up times, etc.)  I ran verify disk, verify disk permissions, etc.  I found that when I ran verify disk permissions, it stated that the iTunes permissions weren't right so I repaired disk permissions, reboot, still same problem.  Ran verify disk permissions again, once again iTunes permissions issues, repair disk permissions, restart, same problem over and over again like Ground Hog Day, please help...

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
    Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|find tok|n Cause: -' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
    Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
    Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

Don't be afraid to bump this topic. There's also an App Store forum where you might repost this question, but give some of these details in your post.  I'd rephrase the topic to something like "Can't use App Store to upgrade." (Instead of can't "open".) Then give the details.

  • 10.6.8 Supplemental update -- Freeze

I let software update install this supplemental update today, after ensuring that my time machine backup had completed.  After the restart, it seemed to launch ok until the desktop appeared with larger/rearranged icons, and a huge dock appeared (usually hidden and containing many more items).  Activity Monitor launched (login item) and began updating.... then stopped.
At that point, I could move the pointer with the mouse, but it was otherwise unresponsive. I've seen similar behavior with 2 bad video boards in past, but there weren't any screen glitches.  It would boot in safe mode, but all my usual finder/keyboard/mouse preferences were reset to those of a new install.  Any attempt to reboot led to a similar hang shortly after launch.  (< 30 sec).
I undid the changes, reverting to a complete restore from this AM's time machine backup.  While it is back to functioning as it was before the update, I appear to have lost anything in my user folder that was changed since the last restart some time ago.  This is a feature of file vault, I presume.
Does anyone else long for the days when Apple Computer sold computers, rather than lifestyle?

Same problem here, but i don't have time machine running so cannot back out the update.  Hope Apple fixes this soon.
