10.8 makes iChat sleep when buddy window closed

If I close all the iChat windows, the application essentially sleeps making it impossible to see cameras avaiable to initiate a vieo chat.  Is there any workaround?

Hi,
So you want to run iChat with Buddy lists closed (Hidden) ?
And you want to Start Video Chats with people that have cameras ?
Do you have the Menu Bar icon enabled ?
See the Messages > Preferences > General section (Show Status in Menu Bar)
This will provide a drop down and Buddies and show which have cameras.

  • How can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

how can i get my macbook pro too stay on and not sleep when lid is closed?

If the machine is asleep, lid closed, and you plug in to an external monitor and an external USB keyboard, the machine will wake, anbd reconfigure the screen resolution for the external monitor, Once it has made this configuration change, you can open the lid and it will continue to address only the external monitor.  At least that's how my early MacBook Pro unibody 13" works. It seems to run a bit cooler this way. It gets quite toasty with the lid closed while doing anything demanding and you are more likely to hear the fan come on.  I have not seen any temps that would cause alarm, but I do get a high speed (6000 rpm), noisy fan sometimes with the lid closed, .
If you operate in the open-lid, external monitor only mode, if you deactivate the monitor for any reason, when it reactivates it will be running both screens, with all the navigation hassles this entails, so I generally set it not to deactivate the screen when in this mode.
Thus I agree with those who say that some of the cooling air is drawn in around the keyboard, the difference in cooling performance is observable.  If you activate istat pro, get the computer hot running in clamshell mode, and open the lid, you can watch the CPU temp drop by a few degrees C within a couple minutes.  It isn't a huge difference, but enough the lower the fan speeds.

how to close child windows when parent window closed in jsp
becoz it can't be able to recognise it's parent
    with the whole application
plz send me some sample code of it

Hi, I have no idea how to do this is JSP.
However createing a modal window (with javascript) would mean that the user can not use the parent window untill he closes the child window. However not sure if this is what you are searching.
Otherwise you can detect the onClose (I think) and close the window from there.
However both the above are JavaScript and not JSP.

  • Screen replaced on 17in--now PB will not sleep when lid is closed

I recently replaced my screen to a glossier LG Philips lp171w02 screen. My problems are that my pb will not go to sleep when I close the lid and the brightness keys also are not functioning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to non-destructively remove this magnet from my 17" PowerBook (older one with 1440x900 display)? I don't like that my PowerBook sleeps when I close it, and I've asked Apple if there is a way to disable this functionality. Short of plugging in an external display, they told me no.
This option is built in to the Windows OS, and I've grown quite accustomed to putting my laptops to sleep manually. I'd really like to be able to have the lid closed and still let programs run, downloads continue, etc.

  • MacBook Pro won't sleep when lid is closed and battery lights won't work?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro 15" and ever since I got it, the battery indicator lights wouldn't light up (not that big of a deal) and the computer wouldn't sleep when I closed the lid.
I've reset the NVRAM/PRAM, the SMC and verified/repaired my hard disk as needed.  But the computer still won't sleep when I close the lid (regardless if the machine is plugged into a charger or not).  Is there a known fix for this problem?  I've been searching through the forums and troubleshooting from advice that other people have suggested, but nothing seems to be working.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

This exact thing happened to me. Resetting the SMC solved all my problems. Here's a link to how to do it: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) Hope it works!

  • Macbook Pro running 10.6.7 won't sleep when lid is closed

My 2.2GHz 2007 15"Macbook Pro no longer goes to sleep when closing the lid. The laptop continually tries to wake, with the apple logo lighting up, along with the sound of the slot cd/dvd drive. If I leave the lid open, the laptop appears to sleep but the laptop sometimes seems to get very warm and if not plugged in will drain the battery down to nothing. The battery was replaced in the last 4 weeks but the problem existed before the battery change.

  • Computer does not sleep when lid is closed

    Hey everyone,
Until about 15 minutes ago I had my powerbook G4 set to sleep whenever I closed the lid. Well, now it does not want to.
I installed a screensaver and used it for a little bit, and now uninstalled it.
The problem is, ever since installing and selecting that screensaver my computer won't sleep when I close the lid.
What is the process to restore this and get it so that it sleeps when I close the lid?
    Thanks in advance!

  • My ipad doesn't seem to make a sound when it is closed or in sleep mode to let me know there is an imessage until you see it on the screen that someone has imessaged.  When you're taking it makes the swoosh sound, just not when it's in sleep mode.  Help

Am having some problems with the sounds on my ipad, specifically my imessage notification sound when your ipad is in sleep mode and someone is messaging you.  It seems to work with the swoosh sounds when you are actively messaging back and forth, but as soon as I close my ipad up and is locked or in sleep mode, I don't know anyone is messaging me until I look at my ipad.  I've tried a few things.. But nothing has worked so far....Please help!

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • Can i make screen sleep when plugged into tv but keep ipad running?

I don't know if it's hard on the screen to keep it up and running when I have the ipad connected to the television watching a movie on netflix, for example, but it sure seems like a waste of it's life.  Is there anyway tell the ipad to sleep the screen but keep it running?  Other than for playing music, which I know it does.

Is there anyway tell the ipad to sleep the screen but keep it running?
No, the video app needs to have that feature built in. For example, the Apple video app does black out the display, but when I use VLC or Netflix they do not.

  • Satellite P50T - does not sleep when lid is closed

I have a new P50T with Windows 8.1.  When I close the lid it does not sleep despite
my power options being set that way.   I have closed the lid, unplugged and put in my bag

    Any information would be appreciated.

Change that setting, "Restart" Windows (don't shut down), restore the setting, and Restart again. Sometimes clears cobwebs in the registry.

  • How Can I Make Several RT Selections Without Window Closing?

This applies to countless Mac settings in numerous apps and not just the RT settings.
When I want to change the RT settings, the moment I select one the window/menu closes and I have to click the RT button again to select the second setting and so on.
Basically I want to keep the window/menu open until I have adjusted/selected all the parameters.
I have put up with this type of thing happening for nearly 9 years.
Is this the way it has to be or is there a simple fix I have ben oblivious to for all this time?

    Hi -
IMHO, the Mac human interface has always been simple:
    Select and Do.
If the "Do" is a menu choice, the choice is applied and the menu disappears.
If the "Do" is a call for a Dialog box to make user choices, the menu disappears and the Dialog box opens and remains open until closed by the user.
    Examples:
Menu Edit > Paste will paste the copy of the clipboard to your document and promptly disappear.
Menu Edit > Paste Attributes . . . will open a Paste Attributes Dialog box, and the dialog box will need to be closed by the user.
The way to tell if the menu item is going to perform an action or call for a Dialog Box for more user choices is if the menu item is followed by an Ellipsis ( . . . ).
Perhaps the best way to accomplish what you want is to use Feedback to ask for an RT Dialog Box in addition to the RT menu.
