10.8.x Contact Server Doesn't Push to iOS

Ever since Push is included on the Mac OS X server, my company has been using it. We can set it up to push to iOS for Mail and Calendar, but never successfully for Contact. Strangely enough, Mail, Calendar and Contact all push to the Mac OS without problems. Has anyone actually successfully set up the server to Push to iOS's Contacts App?

Yar.... well there is Apple marketing info, Apple technical documentation (what there is of it ) and there is reality... 這可能是不同 !
This is what I can tell you as a fact as I have it all working — OS X Server 2.2 on OS X 10.8.2, iOS 6.1, OS X client machine running 10.8.2.
On iOS when you look at the Calendar account setup one will see "CalDAV Account Information" as a heading. When one looks at the Contacts account setup there is no "CardDAV Account Information".
What Apple doesn't say (make completely clear) in it's glossy literature is that for the 'shared' calendar & contacts services it's not shared as in user A makes their calendar/contacts available to user B or a group. You need to make a pseudo network account (I call mine DAV Service Agent) and then use that account as the account for all clients (on OS X or iOS) applications (Calendar & Contacts). Then you have 'shared' Calendars & Contacts as in shared because everyone uses the same account!
I have my Apple Push Certificates installed and they look to be cleanly setup
If I have two clients (iPad with iOS 6.1 and Mac with OS X 10.8.2) and I have a contact open on the iPad and I change that contact on the Mac (the account/contact is obviously on my OS X server) within a second I see network activity on the iPad (spinning wheel) and the contact on the iPad is updated. Now this is even though on the iPad in:
Settings | Mail, Contacts, Calendars | Fetch New Data = Push | Advanced | Contacts = Fetch
If I make a change to contact on the iPad it takes 1 - 3 minutes to see the change on the Mac.
Bottom line... as far as I am concerned I get push to the iOS device, regardless of what it says in the settings.
Is the OS X server implementation a beautiful setup... hmmm.

IPad receives Contact data from other devices but doesn't "push" to iCloud.

I have 4 devices: iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air and iMac. All with up-to-date software. Any contact I create on iPhone, iMac or MacBook Air appears on all devices (INCLUDING IPAD!) Any new contact on the iPad doesn't sync with the rest.
On the iPad > settings > iCloud: Contacts is selected (which explains that it "pulls" data). I already followed the basic steps suggested by Apple: unselect Contacts in iCloud, delete from device, restart etc. The iPad still doesn't push it's data to iCloud.
Any ideas?

on settings > mail, contacts and calendars, wich contact account you have by default? ensure that you have icloud contacts select as default.

4. Visit http://my-site.com/scripts/form_check.php in a web browser and make sure you see all green checkmarks. If some items do not display green checkmarks that means that the hosting server is not configured correctly to allow the Form widgets to send email messages to the address you've specified.
Contact your web-hosting provider about the server configuration problem. Describe the items that are not marked as green in the form check page, so that they can help you set up the servers to use the correct settings.

What is the "From" email address in your form?
Also, have you checked the spam folder?

Change the password on that e-mail account. It's possible that your account has been hacked/spoofed and spammers have used it to blast out junk, leaving you to 'pay the price'. If it's one where you can contact the company, contact them and ask them what's going on. (if this is g-mail, yahoo, hotmail, don't bother, there's no way to contact any sort of support)

Yahoo! Mail Doesn't Push

OK, I set-up my existing Yahoo! e-mail account on my iPhone. I didn't get any kind of notification when new mail came in. I expect that's what push is all about, right? I don't think I'm supposed to have to launch the mail app and wait for it to check for new messages over the slow EDGE network constantly all day long. So, I found this post on Mac Forums:

I tried that and my Yahoo! mail still doesn't push. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
By the way, this free Yahoo! account gets a lot of spam. If I upgrade to the Yahoo! Plus e-mail account, will I still be able to get push? Thanks.

I just moved my personal email from Cox to Yahoo on June 30 after getting an iPhone and have been doing a lot of tinkering and researching. So, I may be able to help. I've noticed that if I have more than one email account turned on on the iPhone then the "push" doesn't work (i.e., they can be setup, but disabled and it's OK). Also, I am using the Plus account and after 3 weeks have not received one single spam email, not even into the junk folder. So, Yahoo's filters appear to be working great. Lastly, with the Plus account, you can also use POP, so I set that up on my Mac. I'm not positive, but it appeared that if the Mac retreived email using POP, it would mark the email as unread on my iPhone. So, although the message would be there, the number indicator on the Mail icon would disappear.
As far as your quote . . . I don't understand why you're tinkering with the settings. You should just set it up simply using the Y Mail default on iPhone and it works fine. I've read in a few places that you can't simply put in the apple.imap server in the settings because there is some kind of encryption key being exchanged in the background to limit the imap use to iPhones and setting up an "other" account does not establish this type of connection. So, it won't work.

Go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the email account there. Then add it back again.
If that fails you can set Mail at the email client for iPhoto in iPhoto's General preference pane. Mail is more reliable, gives you a sent copy and has better access to your contacts. It also has photo templates if you need them. They are in the stationary selection menu.

When I check my contacts, my email gets pushed to my phone...

Everytime I go into my contacts to call someone, my iPhone retrieves my emails. Any idea as to what would cause this? I have the iPhone 3GS ver 3.1.2. I have tried to do a factory restore but the problem still exists. I'm completely lost.

Mixture of CalDav, Exchange(e-mail, calendar and contacts) and IMAP email accounts
I sent myself a test e-mail, made sure it was on my IMAP server then checked my contacts.
The device did a refresh (to check the Exchange contacts) but did not push the e-mail to me.
Opened e-mail app and the phone manually fetched the e-mail.

Unable to connect to Internet via Airport Express - 'cannot contact server'

I'm unable to connect to the internet via my Airport Express. I'm using OS 10.3.9, and had the same setup with no problems at a previous address, but with a different modem from the same ISP.
My AE is connected - the light is green - and my mac is connected to the network in Internet Connect. But when I open Safari I get an 'unable to contact server' message.
I've tried rebooting everything (modem, AE, Mac), and leaving modem/AE off for several minutes. Also reset the AE, but to no avail.
The connection works fine via Ethernet cable.
Any ideas?

Thanks, I checked out that advice doc (106798), but could not connect to the address (http://17.149.160.49) which is given to test if it's a DNS issue. My ISP says I shouldn't need DNS settings.
The service is PPPoE, and I went into Airport Admin Utility to check if the Airport was configured for this. Under Configure/Internet, I found it was set to 'Ethernet', so changed it to PPPoE. Then when I restarted I got connection status in the bar (and good Airport signal), but status flipped between 'looking for PPPoE host' and 'negotiating PPPoE host', sometimes sticking on one or the other each time I tried rebooting all gear.
Any other ideas?

Open directory server crashing every 30 days / clients unable to connect to calendar, contacts server

Hello everyone,
I am running an up to date Mavericks Server which serves exclusively as a calendar and contacts server for about two dozens devices. The server is reachable via DynDNS, however, the public IP hardly ever changes (only once or twice a year maybe). Tried setting the OS X DNS Server to serve "all clients" and "some clients".
For about 6 months (i.e. also under Mountain Lion), I am having a very strange problem. Roughly every 20-30 days, clients will not be able to connect to the server, instead getting a "wrong password" dialog. Restarting the open directory server will help for the next 30 days.
I have tried repairing the database as detailed here, however, the issue persists.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
I would have tried setting up a clean server installation, migrating calendars/contacts manually and re-adding all users by hand, however, I am not aware of an easy way to do so. The terminal command for calendar backup is broken under mavericks (might work with this workaround) and re-adding users manually would apparently involve correcting user UUIDs afterwards in order to match the migrated calendar data. Do you know of a better approach?

Weblogic 10.3.0.0 installer - Failed to contact Server

When clicking 'Next' on the 'Specify Download Options' portion of the wizard I get an error message "Failed to contact Server"
Anyone know why I recieved this message or how I can get around it?

OK , I have checked the log files for the server - it says it is using NON-BLOCKING source file:/dev/urandom
Looks like this must have been sorted out in 10.3.5 as it recognizes the Linux System.
I have the same issue on all 6 of the servers I have installed - so this may be a different issue.
These are BL460c g6 HP blades in a c7000 chassis.
So now I am at a dead end.
The initial wait is still considerable, but we may have to live with this (Ubuntu Server 11.04 is still new and probably not supported well at this time)
The admin console works fine once it initially opens and is fast.
I tried the java command as well and got an error finding the main class in weblogic.wlst, (not the end of the world).
all in all though it looks impressive right now, aside from the minor admin stuff, my application runs fine (which is what counts in the end).
I will leave this open so that anyone else can view it and make suggestions.

Mac Mini Server Doesn't Support Duel Thunderbolt Displays!

I purchased a mac mini server with the intent of ultimately running two thunderbolt displays off of it. I pre-ordered in August, waited six weeks for it to arrive and realized that the mac mini server that I had been sent was a lemon. I applied for a replacement, which was built in China and it arrived two weeks later. Everything was going great - I had my mac mini server running a thunderbolt and I was thrilled! Yesterday however, I purchased my second thunderbolt display, connected it and nothing happened. Trouble shooting didn't help. Finally, I called apple and was told that the server version doesn't support duel thunderbolt displays! I had read all of the technical specifications and there was no mention (at that time) that the server couldn't support duel displays. I am now in the process of returning my mac mini server in exchange for a custom build mac mini with upgraded 2.7 GHz i7 processors and 8GB RAM. I'm really disappointed to have to be going through all of these extra steps just to realize the system that I imagined early on. I checked the Apple Thunderbolt display options page at apple and they have now posted that the server doesn't support duel displays (but that informaiton definitely was not there when I first read it!). Why would the server version not support duel displays? To me, it doesn't make any sense. What are your thoughts?

It doesn't support dual TB displays because it uses the integrated
Intel graphics HD 3000. Only discrete graphics cards can handle
dual TB displays. The integrated graphics chip just cant handle
the load.
As for the logic of it, as servers, they are usually single display
and even more often are run headless and managed remotely.
It is marketed as a server and thus the logic.

VPN on 10.3.9 server doesn't work

Hi evrybody,
i have a problem with vpn on Mac OS X Server 10.3.9 on a powermac with two ethernet;
All the configuration on the server seems to be ok, i turned on the l2tp, i turned off the firewall (so i can't have port problem), i told to the server can all groups can use vpn, i put starting ip 0.0.0.0 and end ip 255.255.255.255.
BUT, when i try to connect with my powerbook, by the LAN or by the gprs connection with cellular phone, i receive a message "the server doesn't reply".
If somebody had the same problem and can help me, thanks in advance.

Why did you enter 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255 as the starting and ending IPs?
Starting and ending IPs are LAN addresses which you have allocated for the VPN.
For example, if your IP range is 192.168.1.1-254 and you expect no more than simultaneous VPN connections, you would enter something like:
Starting IP: 192.168.1.200
Starting IP: 192.168.1.205
Additionally, in the Client Information section, you need to add your subnet.
Click + to add and enter your network address (ex: 192.168.1.0) and subnet mask (ex 255.255.255.0)
Did you open firewall ports (or map NAT ports)?
Does the client attempt to authenticate, but fail? (you should see this in your log)
Get through these suggestions, make sure your firewall is configured properly and test again.
If that doesn't work, post contents of your log.

My Mail server doesn't work after upgrading from SL to ML
Mail client connects with the Mail Server wich seems to run but then they can't receive any email...
the problem seems to be related with dovecot ... in my smtp log i get this:
relay=dovecot, delay=324, delays=324/0.02/0/0.01, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (temporary failure. Command output: pipe: fatal: pipe_command: execvp /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver: Permission denied
I have to say that in the usr/libexec there wasn't the dovecot directory so I just tried to create one but with no luck
Any Ideas?

Thank you but I guess I wasn't too clear. The link to the bugzilla information is about a very bad update that can NOT be trusted and if you read it the Mozilla folks hard blocked it and took legal action against whomever was sending it out.
The pop up I keep getting I can not trace who or where it is from. So on two unrelated matters I 1) have this non stop update that keeps popping up and 2) saw an article about a bad Firefox update that had been blocked. I put the two together and thought maybe my pop up was what the article was about and how can I tell if it is malice or a real FF update? Clear as mud now? lol
