Available for:  OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5,
OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5, OS X Mavericks 10.9 and 10.9.1
Impact:  An unprivileged user may change the system clock
Description:  This update changes the behavior of the systemsetup
command to require administrator privileges to change the system
clock.
CVE-ID
CVE-2014-1265
My account is an administrator account, but now when I run the systemsetup command, I get the following error:
MacBookAir:~ mikedonscheski$ systemsetup -listtimezones
You need administrator access to run this tool... exiting!

Hmmm... I'm probably a bit experienced, but the Time/Date setting looks okay to me?  Matches the time on my iPhone.  Should I be looking at something else?

  • Installing Orchestrator Run Program Service requires administrative privileges on the target computer.

We have a simple runbook that runs an .exe program local on a remote server.
When I run the runbook within the Runbook Designer and the Runbook Tester it runs succesfully.
When I run the runbook within the Orchestration Console (http://server4:82) I get the error message "Access is denied. Installing Orchestrator Run Program Service requires administrative privileges on the target computer."
    Orchestrator hierarchy:
    server1 Management Server
    server2 Runbook Designer
    server3 Runbook Server
    server4 Web Server

    Already solved it!
Even after making the Service Account a Domain Admin it didn't work after restarting the two services on server1. But I forgot the service on server3! Apparently when you use the Web Server it runs the runbook through the Runbook Server and when you
use Runbook Designer it runs locally within the Runbook Tester?

  • Issues with some apps requiring administrative privileges after installing Mavericks

Hi everyone. After updating to Mavericks on my MacBook Pro, I have experienced the following inconveniences.
    1) Dropbox keeps asking for my administrative password at every boot.
Quite annoying. Reinstalling the app didn't solve the issue. Instead, Finder integration seems now gone.
    2) VirtualBox won't start.
The error message is "Effective UID is not root (euid=217 egid=20 uid=501 gid=20) (rc=-10). Please try reinstalling VirtualBox.".
Needless to say that uninstalling the app with the script and reinstalling it didn't solve anything.
    3) XQuartz is also gone.
It keeps popping out with this error message: "The application X11 could not be opened. An error occurred while starting the X11 server: "Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already running. Click Quit to quit X11. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.".
If I hit "Quit", the message comes out after some seconds. I used XQuatz to run Inkscape, which I have now replaced with iDraw, but the issue is still annoying.
As far as I understand, the problem seems related with administrative privileges required by the apps. On my two other Macs (Mac Mini and iMac) things are fine, so I assume that somehow maybe some system files are messed up on the MBP. I ran a permission repair but it was useless. I searched the forums but it seems that nobody is experiencing the same troubles. I hope someone here may help me solve these issues without a fresh install. Any ideas?

I think this may now well be a keychains issue.

  • Programs requiring Administrator privileges and I'm the Admin

I use Bootcamp on my MacBook and love it. However, I've been having issues with some of my programs... like Spybot. I try to get it to immunize my computer and it does so with the warning that the immunization will not be complete due to me needing to be an Administrator and have those privileges. I did it again to make sure, then checked that I was listed as being the Administrator in the Users, which I was. The only thing I can think of is that my copy of Windows Vista is having issues since I don't have a product key for it (family member lent it to me, but she's using it too). My boyfriend suggested it might be due to it running through Bootcamp, but I wasn't sure. Do I need to reinstall Spybot? Thanks!

If you get an error message that you do not have sufficient permissions or if you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

    * Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Broken link on copy and paste from normal user to required upper privilege user

    Hi,
I've encountered an error that is probably coming from environment variables.
When I copy %document%\something\ from a normal user to %programs% where it require administrator privilege, i'm prompted with a credential window ( so far so good ) until it prompt me with an other window that says: "i don't find %document%\something\"
witch is normal since the administrator have different environment variable and certainly no "something" folder under his documents.
    hope it helps, N.Satsuki.

    Hi,
This should be privilege problem, as normal user desn't have write permission of Program files folder in C drive.
If you doubt this is enviroment variable problem, it would be better to switch your account to Administrator account to test if it had same problem.

  • Administrator privileges to domain users

Raj Kulkarni wrote:...The applications which they use require administrative privileges.Any ideas.Get a better software vendor.Seriously though, all jokes a side, get a better software vendor. If your software vendor is too lazy or incompetent to build software which cannot run with standard user privileges, then it isnot worth using. Inb4, we cannot... blah blah blah. Of cause you can. It is all about making a business case to management why having users running around with local admin rights is not a question of if something goes wrong, but when.Oh look Jonny wants me toplay"Hack my PC" withhim on facebook, oh what is this? I need to install this "update". Sure, why not? Nothing can go wrong right?
Not the answer you were looking for I know, however it is the RIGHT answer.

For the past few months, on some PC's, I am unable to give a domain users administrative privileges on their own PC.  The applications which they use require administrative privileges.
What I have done in the past, with no problems, was to add the domain user to the Administrators group on the local PC.  Now, I get an error message, stating that the user name or password is incorrect.
I suspect that there may be some corruption in the active directory on our Windows 2008 server.  I have also had password synchronization problems where the password doesn't get changed on the server, but only on the local PC.
    Any ideas.

  • Denied Downloading Creative Cloud Installer, Requires Administration Priviledge

Why is it that when I am trying to download the Creative Cloud installer or for that matter the Adobe Application manager on my home personal computer I am told that this requires Administration priviledge?
Where do I get this adminstration priviledge to continue the downloading of the software?

Background - Installing under Windows 7 from Photo subscription
Problem - failure some way into the download process with the message that the next stage requires administrative privileges
What's it got to do with Adobe?
This has a lot to do with Adobe. Standard MS security practice is use a user account with minimum privileges for all normal purposes - such as running e-mail. In addition, the "Administrator" account login is disabled by default and the expectation is that the machine will be managed by a different account with user privileges. The Adobe acceptance e-mail will normally be loaded into the user account where the e-mail client (e.g Outlook) is accessed. Following the instructions on this e-mail will lead to the install being attempted into the user account with minimum privileges. Every other recent application I come across will request a password of an admin account to proceed with the install in these cases. Adobe's install just dies with its unhelpful message.
It's actually worse than this, since Adobe require that the download takes place into the administrator account - as you need to enable login first. (Run as Adminstrator does not seem to be an option with the download process, as the executable file is not obviously available to run)
When you are on a relatively slow connection (as I am.. 2.3mb dowload) the need to work through this is a bit tedious. Things now seem to be working, but its the third iteration.
    Solution
    1. Follow the instruction on the acceptance e-mail and click Get Started to get the web screen up in the user account. Copy the web address this generates from the top left of the browser (highlight and press <Ctrl>+C). Paste this into a text file - save to a stick or an area of shared storage. Exit the browser and account.
    2. Enable the built in Administrator account from your management account (see How to enable and disable the Windows Administrator account for example. Make sure you give the account a suitably complicated password but don't rename it. (you'll disable the login anyway when you've finished)
    3. Exit the management account and log in to the built-in Administrator account, which will now be available. Go to www.adobe.com  change your region if necessary, (bottom left hand of screen) and log in, ticking the keep logged on box. Open a new browser tab and copy in the saved web address from the acceptance e-mail. Things should now work (well they seem to be working for me, anyway.., though I am not sure how Adobe will handle things if the program download fails because of comms problems (1.5 hrs for 38% of photoshop)
    4. Remember to disable login to the built in Admin a/c when you finish.
    A better solution
Adobe to take account of the above when putting its load routines together.. at the very, very least provide some warning and instruction on the acceptance e-mail.
BW to anyone who picks this up & good luck

  • Unreconciliable need for Administrative Privileges for Installation

My automated detection of updates for Flash Player alerted me tonight that an update is available but claims that it requires administrative privileges in order to proceed with the installation.
I was completely unable to locate, even with help from a Google search, the file responsible for these updates and so took the logical step of downloading the whole thing separately.
I gave the installation file administrative privileges but it still claims "process not elevated".
**This is a serious security issue that I need resolved.**
It is insane to use programs/code that are susceptible to malware attacks without the ability to stay updated with the latest security updates and if my issue cannot be resolved I will have to consider ceasing all Flash activity.

I have solved the problem and am posting what I discovered here so others experiencing this problem can benefit.

"Many people familiar with prior versions of Windows are curious what happened to the built-in Administrator account that was always created by default. Does this account still exist, and how can you access it?
The account is created in Windows 7, 8, or Vista, but since it’s not enabled you can’t use it. If you are troubleshooting something that needs to run as administrator, you can enable it with a simple command.
Note: You really shouldn’t use this account for anything other than troubleshooting. In fact, you probably shouldn’t use it at all."

This is Tom. I'm logged in as local administrator to Windows 7 64bit OS and everytime I tried to install CS5.5 Master I kept getting this message, "Administrator privilege are required to install". Do you have any suggestion? I can install any program but just not CS5.5.

Can you tell me what version of Mac OS X you have and happened when you tried to install PocketMac? I've installed it, but it's not that useful. Rumor has it they are releasing BlackBerry Desktop for the Mac on Friday. I don't know if that's true--I signed up for updates weeks ago but haven't heard a word yet--but that's what other people here have told me.
    Entourage is
    a) an original HBO series
    b) a mail program from the Micro$oft evil empire
I watched "a" for the first time last week. It wasn't bad, but I don't know what all the fuss is.
So far I have managed to lead a relatively full and productive life without ever using "b" (even though it is installed on my computer because I had to get M$ Awffice for work). Don't ever let anybody tell you you need it.
AFAIK the only way to get it is to go out and buy M$ Awffice, and if you get the le$$ expen$ive "Home and Student Edition," you get a stripped down version of Entourage that M$ Exchange servers won't even talk to and doesn't support Web services. The full version of Awffice will set you back $399.95 (list). Trust me. You can live without it.
