10.9.2 update stopped with "less than a minute"

My wife just updated her mid-2012 MBP to 10.9.2 and we went out to dinner, when we came back a couple hours later it was at "less than a minute..." but there was no indication that the hdd was writing or anything. If you tried to move the mouse via touchpad nothing would happen but the Magic Mouse seems to be working. Because it's not actually running at this point, is it safe to manually shut it down or restart it?
I'm just gonna leave it overnight and see if it pulls itself together but my wife is super worried that she's borked her lappy.
Any advice?

If the 10.9.2 update is frozen, hold the Power button to turn off the computer, and turn it on again. Then, open  > About this Mac, and check that 10.9.2 is installed.

Maverick has been completing the update with less than one minute remaining now for well over an hour.  Where do I go from here?

    try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
if that doesn't work then connect to a computer and try to open the device in itunes

Yosemite 10.10.3 update stuck on 'less than a minute remaining' for 2 hours encounting?
    Anyone else having this?
Shall I just wait or can i force shut down or anything like that?
    Thanks.

I ended up having to force quit by holding down the power button after waiting 4 hours to see if it would resolve itself an load.
Wouldn't boot up properly, seemed to be stuck on the new apple logo with loading bar below so forced quit again and tried to restore form a time machine back up by holding cmd+R on restart. It said it was unable to do this so restarted again and it eventually started as normal and I was running 10.10.3 although I wasn't sure if the install was done correctly so did complete a restore from a time machine back up.
I think I will wait for another .1 update or just try again at a later date maybe.
    Thanks.

  • Migration stalled with "less than a minute remaining"

This issue was discussed back in April, but no definitive solution was found.
I installed Mountain Lion on an older MacBook Pro and all went well until I got to the Setup Assistant after restart. The migration of my files from a Time Machine backup stalled with "less than a minute remaining" while "transferring files to support applications". Apparently this is a known issue that affects older Macs upgrading from Snow Leopard. I have two questions about this:
    1. Can anyone suggest a fix or workaround for this problem? In the earlier thread, some people repeated the file transfer several times with exactly the same results. One person evidently had better luck when he started over and deselected everything but Users on the transfer options screen; but it obviously requires alot of extra work on the user's part to reinstall every application.
    2. What is the best way to abort the stalled transfer without risk of damaging the data on my Time Machine backup drive? Mountain Lion refused to install on my startup drive until I erased it, so my Time Machine backup is the only copy I have of my data. Since Setup Assistant is not frozen, I can hit command-Q and Setup Assistant offers to shut down; but is the data on my backup drive at risk if I shut down and start over?
    Thanks!

Has your Migration Assistant actually crashed? I am restoring my computer from a hard drive failure and the following dialog has been displayed for the last 12 hours. I clicked on the App in the dock to see if it was displaying as crashed, it doesn't appear to be.
I checked the "Get Info" on the Hard Drive Volume, and it is showing a very slow progression of used bytes. I suspect the transfer is still continuing, just very slow as I have so much data. I think it is a matter of quanity of files rather than "file size".
Should be interesting to see in another day or so to see if it completes. :-)

  • Latest update 7.1.2 stuck with less than one minute remaining

I Couldn't download anymore apps and noticed I needed to update my software to the latest version so thought that this would solve the problem. I started the update at 11pm last night and after waiting 2 hours with it on  charge and connected to wifi it still said less than one minute remaining.  Searches on internet suggest a hard reboot but will this loose my apps as some I have are no longer available to get?  I have backed up photos etc to the cloud so not too worried about those.
any advise please   Thanks in advance

With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Time Machine stops at less than a minute

    Hello all,
I just completed a Time Machine restore to clean Leopard 10.56. As many have reported, the process starts when you turn on the computer for the first time after the HD is replaced. A screen asks you if you want to restore from Time Machine, and when you connect the Time Machine and approve that, off you go.
After the point when I think it said, accessing/restoring Network preferences (which I think is near the end of the process), it seems to hang. The mouse pointer is accessible, and there is a beep if I press Esc. The screen dims periodically. The MaxTor External HD light stays on, and then every 5 or 10 minutes it cycles to a standby, where the light blinks. This kept going on for 30 mins, and I thought it odd.
So I called Apple Support. They recommended waiting another few hours. I did. Still no change. So I called again. Got a high level tech, and when the Time Machine disk cycled to standby we powered down the Mac.
When we powered it up again (well me, since the Apple Tech was on the line), the system came up, all my stuff was there. Only the name of the HD was the default, and its pic was default. EVERYTHING else was transferred back.
I connected Time Machine again and took it through a cycle of back up and stop backup and eject. Again, so far, everything is okie dokie.
This, just to tell you all my first-time experience. I agree with the techs not to touch anything for several hours, since it may be doing something. But in this case, I think it was at the last screen.
But Apple folks, ya need to fix this process. There is no way to know how far you are in the process. The progress bar lies (hehe) and the messages seem not to reflect the state of the machine. Bad design! And there is no graceful way to step away from the process *if the building is closing and you have to git going.*
However, my Apple Tech was wonderful and deserves chocolate.
    Best,

    Ok.
I am new to this forum. I just wanted to report my experience but ask about the final step hanging, and APPARENTLY the mac being ok. Seeing what other got with this level of a problem. IS it OK? Whups I had to go through several hours of updates, which I was not prepared, but fortunately no inconvenience. Would there have been a screen that advised me that now the restore is complete, the user had better run Updates?
No. Had it completed normally, you wouldn't have needed to do anything more.
That does bring a question to mind, though: had you excluded anything from TM backups?
Not so nice to scold a new user, eh?
Didn't mean to scold you. It seemed you were making a suggestion to Apple, not us civilians.
Anyway, the truth is, the Time Machine mostly went without a hitch after I did get past a few bumps, but I am wondering, would it have been better had I not experienced the glitch
Oh, absolutely. That's why I mentioned that your experience was quite unusual. Browse this forum, and while you'll find several problems, many caused by hardware failures or users doing things they shouldn't, but you'll also find several mentioning how easy it was to restore. Also consider that this is sort of the "ER for Macs", and no more representative of the typical experience than the troubles of the folks in your local "real" ER are of your neighbors.

  • When finalizing iMovie with less than a minute an error message said can not publish because project is already open!

My question is I get error message when finalizing imove projects saying "can not plublish your project with an open project"

It seems like there's a number of these being posted all around the iMovie Discussion Group. So the solution posted most recently that seems to work for the largest number of people is this:
This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder
To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command:
    sudo tmutil disablelocal
The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.

Problem: Update Yosemite, MacBook Pro 2011, After 8 hours was still stuck, my computer went off as I forgot to plug it in. Yosemite, I movie update finished, the recovery update is not installed. Is there anything I should know before I try this again?

You can power down the mac by holding the power button down for 10 seconds or until the mac powers off.

The migration ran for 2 hours, the minutes counting down just fine, but it stopped with "Less than a minute remaining." There it sits, fans blowing, workday slipping away. Any ideas? Is the migration probably finished? Some lonnnng verification occuring?
    Thanks,
    Paul Otteson

Wait another hour. If it doesn't work, you may have insufficient space to finish the migration, or a bad firewire cable for or interface on the drive in question.
Consider the steps suggested for PowerPC to Intel migration. They are more likely to work:

  • 10.9.3 update "less than a minute" - 60 mins ago

    Hi
I installed the updates for 10.9.3 which required a reboot.  After the reboot the Installing Software Update dialog shows and the progress bar moved swiftly towards the end, then stuck at about 95% with the "Less than a minute" message.  That was 60 minutes ago!
Should I leave it and hope it sorts it self out or try turning it off?
    Cheers
    Ian

I'd actually forgotten about this - just went back and the install was still at the same place.  That's quite a few hours so I held the power button down and restarted which it did no problem.
However the updates had not been applied and OSX stated reboot is required.
There were two updates listed, iTunes and the OSX one.  Last time I had clicked update all, this time I just tried the OSX update and that rebooted and worked without issues.  iTunes then updated once the machine had rebooted and I had signed in.
So bottom line is that all us good now.
    Hope this helps someone

Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch the App Store and try re downloading the app.
If that didn't help, open Sysem Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Select:  Mac App Store and identified developers
If that area is greyed out, click the padlock icon to make changes. You may be prompted for your admin password.
    Then try downloading the app.

  • Gtx 570 twin frozer buggy artifacts with less than 2 year usage

    Hey friends,
I have purchase MSI geforce 570 gtx twin frozer after reading too many good things about it. MSI is famous as being the best quality brand for VGA boards but i had no luck with my first purchase of the brand. I'm currently using it now, it allows me to use web and other low resources apps with no problem but any game that I play, after 2 -3 mins of playing, it gets my screen full of weird colorful artifacts and freezes. Sometimes it sends me to desktop with a message "the display driver stopped working and recovered itself" (something along these lines, i use windows in portuguese).
What can be done in this case? Did i just lose my VGA with less than 2 years use? I'm searching for the manuals/box for it to check the warranty period, but until i find it could you please tell me if i still can get help from warranty?
    Thanks in advance.
